INDY’S CHOICE FOR MASTERING CHRONIC CONDITIONS & SKINCARE Easy Energy Wellness — a new stateof-the-art detox and skin care center on the south side of Indianapolis — takes a holistic approach to optimal health. It all started when owner Sandra Carrasquillo was worried about her son after he was diagnosed with chronic digestive problems. It quickly consumed all her free time as she searched the world over for the best of the best when it comes to resetting the body. Sandra and her son Levi finally decided to start Easy Energy Wellness after seeing the dramatic improvement in Levi when
they implemented a combination of detox protocols. After hundreds of hours of research and many miles of traveling, Sandra found help for her son’s major digestive issues without medication or surgery. “My research has led me to some interesting devices that have restored his energy, helped him regain lost weight and brought his blood count into the normal range,” Carrasquillo says. “I am thankful for my son’s improved health, and I hope that my quest can help improve lives through the services we offer.” 6 / CARMEL MAGAZINE / FEBRUARY 2019 / atCarmel.com
Easy Energy Wellness’ detox consult takes a radical approach to nutrition for people that are committed to long-term health benefits. This creates the ultimate foundation. Many of their protocols focus on the liver, which acts as the first line of defense against toxins and unhealthy habits. If this organ goes unchecked, it can lead to inflammation elsewhere in the body. Easy Energy also partners with Dr. CJ Pabla, a board certified MD and IU Med School graduate with 20 years of experience. He now practices functional medicine.
REDUCING DISCOMFORT & LOWERING STRESS Easy Energy Wellness uses five noninvasive devices to speed up the process. A local doctor told Sandra that ozone might be able to naturally suppress the underlying cause of the inflammation. This led her to eventually stumble upon the king of detoxification – the HOCATT. It uses medicinal ozone, infrared, electro frequency, essential oils, and all in a 30-minute session. It is the only one of its kind in Indiana. Have you ever thought about how circulation plays into your overall health? BEMER (Bio-Electro Magnetic Energy Regulation) and PEMF (Pulse-Electro Magnetic Field) devices will enhance general blood-flow, nutrient and oxygen delivery, and cardiac function. These devices can penetrate deep into problematic tissue and are utilized by top athletes to allow them to recover much faster. INCREASING ENERGY & IMPROVING LIVES

Rosati’s Pizza Celebrates Grand Opening In Carmel Writer / Matt Keating Photographer / Kerch Creative
Brandon Perillo, co-owner and general manager of Rosati’s Pizza, a brand new pizza restaurant at 890 E. 116th Street in Carmel, says he has has been thrilled with the new location.
“Rosati’s is family-owned, with a long history of experience in the restaurant business,” Perillo adds. “We keep it real with fresh ingredients and by using recipes passed down through generations.”
Rosati’s also has an excellent thin crust pizza, Double Dough, which is twice as thick with a unique hand-rolled edge and a Stuffed Pizza. Gluten-Free Crust is also available with a 12-inch pizza.
Those recipes have already been popular with Carmel residents.
“My personal favorite is the BBQ special,” Perillo says. “It has an old western blend of sausage, onion, bacon and a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.”
“We chose Carmel because it has been ranked one of the best places to live in the U.S.,” Perillo says. “Carmel has so much to offer its residents, such as great housing, top school districts and a thriving job market.”
“We have received an overwhelming amount of positive responses from the residents of Carmel,” Perillo says. “We are looking forward to being a part of this wonderful community.”
Perillo says that Rosati’s is a Chicagobased franchise with approximately 200 restaurants across the United States.
Rosati’s guests already have their favorites.
“We have been operating for more than 50 years,” Perillo says. In those five decades, Rosati’s has had a strong reputation for excellence.
“One of the most popular items on our menu is our authentic Chicago deep dish pizza,” Perillo says. “It is made with fresh ingredients, topped with our homemade pizza sauce and layered with cheese and toppings of your choice. It is delicious.” 8 / CARMEL MAGAZINE / FEBRUARY 2019 / atCarmel.com
Rosati’s other pizzas include The Heavyweight, with extra sausage, extra pepperoni and extra cheese, the Pepperoni Supreme, a mouth-watering symphony of pepperoni, mushroom, onion and green pepper, and the Chicken Delight, a Rosati’s creation with olive oil, chicken breast, fresh garlic and tomato. These are just a few of the many choices available. “Some of our other more popular menu items are the Rosati’s Cheef sandwich which
is Italian beef and mozzarella on French bread, our Penne Broccoli, which is penne noodles, broccoli, Italian seasoning, garlic and olive oil and our chopped salad,” Perillo says. Pastas include Chicken Parmigiana, Mostaccioli and Penne Alla Rosati, with Penne noodles, Parmesan, diced chicken and Alfredo sauce, among others.
Superior risk-adjusted returns with an emphasis on
QUALITY ASSETS.
Rosati’s also features an Italian Beef Sandwich, a “Crosstown Classic Combo” Sandwich with a sausage link, Italian Beef and French Bread, an excellent Meatball Sandwich and a delicious Grilled Chicken Sandwich, among other sandwich selections. Desserts include Tiramisu, Doug Nuggets, Cannoli and Cinnamon Sticks. “I personally love our chicken wings served with our homemade ranch dressing,” Perillo says. “My other favorite is the Rosati’s sub sandwich.” Perillo looks forward to meeting new friends at Rosati’s in Carmel.
Over $1 billion in assets under management for clients.
“Carmel reminds me of my hometown,” Perillo says. “It is very family oriented and peaceful. Everyone I have encountered has been very friendly and welcoming. I look forward to building a future here in Carmel.” Rosati’s Pizza is located at 890 E. 116th Street in Carmel. You can give them a call at 317-983-3638 or visit them online at rosatispizza.com.

Main Street Barber Shop Owner Talks Nearly 13 Years of Success in Carmel Writer / Julie Young Photographer / Lucas Cooley
When Jason “Hogjawz” Peek makes up his mind to do something, he doesn’t let anyone or anything stand in his way. After spending 12 years in the construction industry working as a concrete finisher, carpenter and mason, he was ready to train for a new career. To everyone’s surprise, he enrolled at Indiana Barber College.
“I was tired of working my butt off and feeling like I was a number to companies in the union,” Peek says. “I also had my daughter Ariel on the way. I decided that 80 hours a week wouldn’t work for a family so I took the plunge.” Upon graduating, Peek took a position at the old Carmel Barber Shop, but within five-and-a-half-years, he decided to go into business for himself. His three colleagues joined him and together they opened Main 10 / CARMEL MAGAZINE / FEBRUARY 2019 / atCarmel.com
Street Barber Shop on June 3, 2006. “We were right across the street from the other place and I had my shop up, running and butts in the chairs within 11 days,” he says. “I spent a lot of late nights building it out, but it was worth it. The other shop closed and never reopened.” Peek says although they have been open nearly 13 years, in a sense, the Main Street Barber Shop is a natural extension of Carmel’s original Beards Barber Shop,
which then became the Carmel Barber shop. He says there has been a barbershop on Main Street for 87 years and hopefully that tradition can continue. It’s clear that the community is pleased with the shop’s presence as well as Peek’s commitment to civic engagement. Not only do they participate in charity events for St. Baldrick’s and the Tatum Parker Project for pediatric cancer, but they also hand out a lot of gift cards, contribute services for charity auctions and collect blankets and clothing for the less fortunate. In addition, they donate sports drinks to the Carmel High School football team during the hot summer two-a-day practices. “Those kids work so hard and do a great job,” Peek says. “The least we can do is quench their thirst.” What makes the Main Street Barber Shop a cut above the rest is more than their philanthropic efforts but the care they put into their services and how they let the end result speak for itself. Peek prides himself on keeping the same crew with him over the years and feels that their biggest success is in the reputation the community has bestowed on them as well as the clients who return time and time again. “We have people from all over Hamilton County telling us that we are the best around, and we have people from all over Indiana telling us that they have heard about us,” he says. “We are humbled by the words and feelings people have expressed to us.” Peek says he hopes to install two more barbers by the spring and is looking to expand his days and hours to accommodate more clients including ladies and children. He also plans to open more Real Main Street Barber Shops throughout Hamilton County as he can. “We’ll just keep rolling on when opportunity knocks,” he says. Main Street Barber Shop is located at 41 W. Main Street in Carmel. STOPit Carmel Clay Schools Launches Anti-Bullying & Safety App Writer / Trisha Turner Photography Provided
David Woodward of Carmel Clay Schools frequently uses a hypothetical scenario to help describe the value of his district’s new school safety app, STOPit. What if, he says, a student wants to report a friend who is thinking of hurting himself or herself? And what if that student shares the information through an anonymous tool — but refers to that friend by only his or her first name? If the student is using a reporting tool that doesn’t allow administrators and school resource officers to directly respond to the message for further information, then precious time could be wasted as they search for the student who might be in danger. Introduced in December, STOPit is an app that allows any Carmel Clay student or parent to report school safety issues and reach out for help at any time. School officials encourage students and parents to use the tool to report bullying as well as issues such as theft, mental health concerns, violence, sexual harassment and substance abuse. Like Anonymous Alert, the tool that STOPit replaces, the new app allows for anonymous reporting. But STOPit also allows for two-way communication, so school officials can follow up to ask for details that may be critical in addressing an issue like the one in the hypothetical scenario Woodward describes. “Students really are our eyes and ears, and they know what’s happening before, during and after school,” says Woodward, Carmel Clay Schools’ Director of Student Services. “This allows them, if they see something, to say something. Then our role is to follow up and do something. It’s very important to us to follow up on every report.”
Developed by New Jersey-based STOPit Solutions, the app is in use in districts across the country. Carmel Clay Schools officials spoke to representatives of several of those school corporations before selecting the tool and were impressed by how it had been received in their communities. Students and parents can download the STOPit app from the App Store or Google Play. To report a concern, they can provide details in writing and share videos and screenshots. Although the reports are anonymous, each school has its own unique code that students and parents enter to connect to the appropriate administrators and SROs.

You Deserve the PrioritY attention of a Private Banker.
Students, in particular, find it easier to use an app than to log in to a website or send an email, Woodward says. STOPit does allow students and parents the option of using a desktop computer to report issues if needed, too.
You’ve accomplished a lot in life. Clearly, you’ve earned your
Response to the app has been positive so far, and Woodward cites two instances that led students to mental health resources — help he says they might not have gotten with a less interactive tool. But the simple act of a parent or student recognizing and downloading the app is “a win for our community,” says Courtney Taylor, the district’s community relations liaison. “You couldn’t find a more caring group,” adds Woodward regarding the Carmel Clay Schools community. “So any tool that will support students is going to get pretty strong support corporation-wide.”

WHITE RIVER DOCUMENTARY FILMS DEBUT IN CENTRAL INDIANA hree new films about the White River — and the lives it touches — recently premiered Jan. 17 at Nickel Plate Arts. The films, funded by Indiana Humanities, build on the award-winning Next Indiana Campfires program, which focused on the White River in 2018 and will continue to do so in 2019. The films debuted in a series of public events in January and February and will be available to stream online in March. Over the last year, Indiana Humanities focused its Next Indiana Campfires program on the White River watershed and the larger question of how Hoosiers relate to water and to each other across watersheds. To explore these connections further — and to document a particularly exciting moment for Indiana waterways — Indiana Humanities selected local filmmakers to create three short films about the White River. The films are each between 11 and 15 minutes in length. A trailer is available to watch at IndianaHumanities.org/CampfiresFilms. Through the films, viewers will meet volunteers, artists, activists, farmers, engineers, developers, city officials, hikers and parents. They’ll paddle downstream with Friends of the White River, tunnel under the city with Dig Indy and soar overhead with the great blue herons of our region. The filmmakers were chosen through a competitive RFP process initiated earlier this year. At the free launch party in January, Indiana Humanities, in partnership with Hamilton County Tourism, screened the films and held a Q&A with the filmmakers. Attendees enjoyed snacks and beers compliments of Upland Brewing. 16 / CARMEL MAGAZINE / FEBRUARY 2019 / atCarmel.com
Work on a two-county White River Vision Plan coincides with the release of the film. “The planning team has met with hundreds of individuals who live near or are passionate about this river during this planning period,” says Hamilton County Tourism President & CEO Brenda Myers. “Nothing we have done in the visioning process captures the community conversations about this river as these three films have.” Leah Nahmias, director of programs and community engagement at Indiana Humanities, says “We are excited to debut these films, made in Indiana by Hoosier filmmakers, which show views of the river and perspectives on the White River watershed you never knew existed. We hope they awaken new appreciation of the White River and spark meaningful conversations about its future.” Here is a list of the films and filmmakers: “Braided with the Current” by Katelyn Calhoun and Hannah Hodges: Katelyn Calhoun has spent the past five years in Indianapolis creating documentary content. She is currently in pre-production for an Appalachian Trail short documentary, (Tr)alias. Hannah Hodges co-founded and runs Hodges Marketing Solutions, a digital marketing agency, with her husband Mark. She is involved in the Indianapolis film community and has a variety of experience ranging from work on documentaries and narrative shorts to corporate videos and live events. “Onward Ever: The Becoming of Indiana’s White River” by Brandon Walsh: Brandon Walsh is an Indybased video producer. His narrative short films have screened at a number of festivals across the Midwest, and he has made national award-winning commercial work with the advertising agency CVR.
“White River: Perspectives” by Hannah Lindgren: Hannah Lindgren is a visual storyteller who works for The Story Shop in Pendleton and hails from the northeast side of Indianapolis. She specializes in telling the stories of nonprofits, causes, small businesses and communities through short videos. This is her fourth documentary film. In March, the full-length films will be

available online, along with a discussion toolkit designed to help people talk about the ideas they raise with neighbors, students, friends and family. Indiana Humanities will also be offering stipends to community groups who host public screenings and discussions of the films in 2019 and 2020.
