NEW STONE AGE: BLENDING THE SCIENCE AND ART OF CUSTOM COUNTERTOPS Just a stone’s throw from Carmel’s Arts and Design District, long regarded as one of the state’s greatest artistic hubs, sits an unconventional artist’s workshop of sorts. It’s a 20,000-square-foot art gallery of granite, marble, quartz and similar stone. While the creations brought to life here don’t adorn collectors’ walls, they do instill that signature “Wow!” factor so many works of art aspire to achieve. That’s the response Indy Custom Stone owner John Lunsford strives for from every customer. Indy Custom Stone treats every individual countertop, bathroom vanity or other custom furniture project as both a science and an art. Operating out of their Carmel headquarters since 2014, Lunsford and his team of fabrication and installation specialists bring decades of combined experience to each unique application. The company partners with custom homebuilders as well as commercial clientele, but dealing directly with community homeowners — benefiting from word-ofmouth marketing and customer referrals — has become its largest area of growth. Transforming any kitchen or bathroom can be as simple as “out with the old and in with the new,” but Indy Custom Stone’s approach to delivering clients custom countertops is different than most. It begins with the vast selection of premium-grade materials in the massive aforementioned showroom and fabrication facility and continues into the customer’s home.
You won’t see any tape measures, carboard templates or hand-drawn sketches when Indy Custom Stone technicians visit for their in-home estimate and measuring of the job. Instead, high-tech laser templating technology produces a digital layout with measurements accurate up to one sixty-fourth of an inch. The high-tech approach continues as 3D models of a customer’s countertops are projected into a digital drawing of their home, requiring much less of the client’s imagination in order to visualize how their stone will look as a finished product. The water saw and finishing router use thousands of gallons of water every day, cutting and polishing stone slabs while also ensuring excess dust doesn’t make its way into the air breathed by employees. Indy Custom Stone’s unique manufacturing water recycling system cleans the used water and produces an environmentally friendly, mud-like residue that goes on to be recycled for use by local landfills. From handpicking their exact stone slab to the state-ofthe-art ways they bring each vision to life, Indy Custom Stone provides a unique, personal experience and simply stunning results Central Indiana homeowners can be proud to display.
