FIT CHICKS! 11720 Olio Road Fishers, IN 317-348-8600 TheFitChicksStudio.com

Writer / Julie Yates Photographer / Belinda Russell

Fit Chicks is committed to serving a diverse clientele with its unique approach to nutrition and fitness. The studio, located at 11720 Olio road, fosters a sense of meaningful community with safety as a main priority. Offering both in-person and Fit Chicks Live virtual sessions, the studio creates a space where women can feel in control. Hundreds of women have been helped by Fit Chicks’ coaches and staff with eating plans and tailored workout programs. “My goal is to help women of all ages and backgrounds to realize their dream of being healthy and happy,” says owner Roz Harris. “I know how tough it is to feel confident and in control. It can be demoralizing to go to the gym and it’s hard to get a diet right. If they do push through those hurdles and figure out a workout plan and diet, they often feel anonymous. The fun goes out of their program quickly. “At Fit Chicks women are seen for who they are,” Harris adds. “They get individual help needed for fitness and diet and have fun while doing it! It’s a space where a 13-yearold can learn to feel confident with her body, as well as where a 74-year-old woman can be celebrated for achieving a full-body plank. We know our members.”

When the COVID-19 crisis hit, Fit Chicks closed the doors. By April 1, their virtual program, Fit Chicks LIVE, was up and running. It proved to be the answer for women who had been trying random online gyms, fitness apps and diet programs. Being another nameless person logging into an online program isn’t very inspiring and it ceases to be an enjoyable experience. By contrast, Fit Chicks LIVE is in real-time and actual personal trainers watch and monitor participants while they work out. Now re-opened, members of Fit Chicks have the flexibility of either making a reservation for studio sessions, or getting online for the actual class. An online client has interaction with everyone, including the trainer who can correct their form. Each personal training and cardio session is capped at just four women! Since reopening, the studio goes above and beyond safety measures it already had in place.

FIT CHICKS! COVID RESET PRACTICES: • Continue rigorous cleaning schedule, like equipment wipe down every half hour • Utilization of Victory Innovation electrostatic cleaning • Installation of Synexis Air Disinfectant System • Empowered staff that ensure sanitizing and cleaning policies are followed Karen D. speaks about her decision to renew her Fit Chicks membership. 6 / FISHERS MAGAZINE / AUGUST 2020 / atFishers.com

“What’s wrong with other gyms and diet apps? I felt anonymous,” she says. “I was dealing with serious family issues and Fit Chicks helped me care for myself as I care for my family.” Harris has a challenge to consider. “I wonder if women out there are shortchanging their health? If yes, you can request a free trial membership by going to our website,” she says. “Imagine what life can feel like when you look great and feel great. Come on in to Fit Chicks!” Fit Chicks is located at 11720 Olio RD (in the Kroger Marketplace Center.) For more visit www.TheFitChicksStudio.com or call 317-348-8600.

REOPENING FISHERS:

RESTAURANTS & GYMS Writer / Seth Johnson As many Fishers bars and restaurants open back up, the plan is to continue satisfying dine-in and carryout needs alike.

Like many other local businesses, Fishers gyms and fitness centers have been forced to pivot from the old way of doing things.

Known much more for their dine-in, Wolfies Grill had to completely shift gears when the coronavirus pandemic hit.

Located at The Yard at Fishers District, Fishers’ CycleBar found success from renting out their equipment to devoted members.

“We’re finally at the point that we’ve got that down, but that was a whole change, just learning how to do carryout,” says Wolfies Grill owner Scott Wolf.

“The day after we closed, I had our manager put out an email to rent bikes,” says Fishers CycleBar owner Amanda Moor. “Less than 24 hours later, we rented all 45 bikes in the studio. So that helped with cash flow.”

While he’s excited to welcome patrons back to his lakeside locations, Wolf says that carryout will still remain an option for those who prefer it. “I think some people aren’t going to be comfortable, and we understand that and are going to have curbside,” Wolf says. “We’ll have that available, but we also want you to come in. I’m optimistic it’s going to be good, and I think we’re going to get through this.” After opening in February, Ohana Donuts & Ice Cream was forced to change its course right out of the gate. This was made a little bit easier, however, due to the business’s meager staff. “Being so small and so new, we were able to adapt on the fly and really juts changed our business model,” says Ohana Donuts & Ice Cream owner Nate Haugh. “For about the first two weeks, there was some panic. But after we got a little bit of momentum going through the carryout and the online ordering, that really eased my pain.” Ohana Donuts & Ice Cream now plans to open a food truck, in anticipation of any further hurdles. “We want to capitalize on the good weather right now and take advantage of every opportunity that we have to bring in some sales,” Haugh adds. “So, we figured going to people is probably our best bet right now.” While carryout and liquor store sales have certainly come in handy for Sun King Brewing, co-owner Clay Robinson is happy to have his beer back in bars and restaurants again. “Being able to have people back in our taprooms is huge for us,” Robinson says. “Bars and restaurants reopening is also huge for us. So the combination of those two things is positive. People really seem to want to get out and are starting to figure out how to navigate it.” This being said, carryout will always be an option with Sun King as well. “We have a focus still on our to-go program because there are people who aren’t comfortable going out,” Robinson says. “If you aren’t comfortable going out, we still can deliver directly to your trunk with curbside.” Make sure to support your favorite, local restaurants in Fishers during this time!

TOM BRITT HOSTS CONVERSTAIONS WITH LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS POST COVID-19 SHUTDOWN VIA FACEBOOK LIVE.

Since reopening the Fishers CycleBar, Moor has taken necessary social distancing precautions. “Our members that are back still stress that they don’t feel fully comfortable with 45 people in our small studio at one time,” Moor says. “So we have to listen to that and adjust accordingly.” The Max Challenge of Fishers has also put necessary social distancing protocols into place, explains co-owner Sheila Tunison. “We actually have our mat all set up so that we have pathways for people to get to X’s that are on the mat,” she says. “We have seven-foot distancing between the X’s so that people can get to their space, and then they can also leave from their space, all while social distancing.” Max Challenge is also instructing members to bring their own water. “They take their water, sweat towels and things like that to their space with them, so we don’t dismiss people in the class to go get drinks of water and things like that,” Tunison says. Like many other gyms and fitness centers, the Fishers YMCA has shifted focus to providing online instruction. “Within that first week, we started developing virtual programming and partnering with Les Mills to do at-home workouts for our members and for the community as well,” says Fishers YMCA executive director Jake ReardonMcSoley. “We developed a large content library for our YMCA to do online.” In terms of their summer programming for kids, Reardon-McSoley says some adjustments definitely had to be made. “We actually are not doing summer camp this year,” he says. “We are offering something that’s called Summer Childcare. We’ve really made massive adjustments to what we normally would do. “All of our staff are given a temperature check, wear masks and have medical screening questions when they come in,” he adds. “Same thing with the kids. They’re not required to wear a mask but we do have social distancing throughout the day.” Be sure to support your local Fishers gyms and fitness centers during this time!

MUDSOCK YOUTH ATHLETICS LEADERS TALK REBRAND & COMMUNITY COMMITMENT Writer / Jon Shoulders Photography Provided

Residents throughout the greater Fishers area might have noticed Mudsock Youth Athletics (MYA), the primary local outlet for non-school youth sports programming, recently underwent a rebrand from its former moniker, S.P.O.R.T.S. Executive Director Scott Spillman says the rebrand decision came from a collective desire among the organization’s leaders to clarify its voice in the community as a nonprofit provider of a wide range of athletic programs. MYA was founded in 1987 by a group of locals representing various single-sport leagues with the intention of creating an organization that benefited the youth in Fishers and in the Hamilton Southeastern school district. At the time, the town population was approximately 2,000 people. Today, Fishers has nearly 90,000

people and MYA typically sees more than 10,000 registrations for its various sports programs annually.

members, collaborated with a local branding company throughout 2019 in the process of rebranding.

“Through this extensive research, it became clear that a rename and new logo was necessary to reflect how our organization has evolved and to more accurately highlight “Despite our growth, our mission has stayed the services and programs we offer,” the same since we began - to foster character Lawrence says. “While the Mudsock name development, leadership skills and physical is used more recently to highlight the yearly fitness in the youth of our community,” competitions between the two high schools, Assistant Director Beth Lawrence says. “We our commitment to the community is more are proud that Mudsock Youth Athletics about collaboration and working closely is now the largest volunteer organization with both the City of Fishers and the HSE in Fishers with more than 2,000 people School District.” investing their time over the course of the year. Every position - our coaches, Spillman says MYA leaders reached out commissioner and league boards - is filled to parents and participants for thoughts by volunteers.” on both the organization itself and any particular words or phrases that bring to mind youth sports programs. both a modern feel and a retro look, representing an optimistic outlook for the future while acknowledging the organization’s 33-year history. “We wanted to simplify the overall look while choosing a name that carried a greater meaning within our community,” Spillman says. “Our tagline, ‘10,000 kids, 12 leagues, one community, and no offseason’, was created to capture the level of involvement the organization has in our community. As an umbrella organization comprised of 12 leagues, we utilize 32 facilities throughout the area and carry out more than 2,500 events during the year. That’s impactful.” Lawrence adds that the new logo reflects the organization’s recreational and competitive team sports that promote character development, leadership and physical fitness. The logo’s red tone represents Fishers High School, while the inclusion of blue represents Hamilton Southeastern School.

AUGUST 2020

“The athletic sock is featured prominently dipped in mud as a tribute to the history of the community, and the sock is also slightly slanted to mimic the shape of the state of Indiana,” Lawrence explains. “When families see Mudsock Youth Athletics’ logo and name, we want it to evoke trust and confidence in our organization. We want families to connect the great moments and experiences their kids have growing as athletes and individuals in our programs, to our brand.” MYA leaders also recently launched a committee focused exclusively on girls’ involvement in sports to curtail what Lawrence says is a growing trend of girls quitting youth athletics after the age of 12. “We are encouraging more women to participate as volunteers in our programs, and we are working with the city and schools to better engage our teenage girl population through much of our programming,” says Lawrence, adding that MYA awarded 326 program scholarships to

in-need families in Fishers last year. MYA online fall sports registration closed recently, but be sure to check myathletics. com for any league date changes due to COVID-19. Families within the HSE school district can register for football, cheerleading, soccer, girls volleyball, cross country, fall baseball and softball, and girls field hockey. Open registration occurs three times a year typically in January, May and August, beginning on the first day and extending throughout the month. Athletes that register during open enrollment are guaranteed a spot to play. After this time, league leaders place athletes on a waitlist and a late fee is implemented. Mudsock Youth Athletics is located at 12690 Promise Road in Fishers. Smooth Sailing LOCAL COUPLE OVERCOMES OBSTACLES AS PORTSIDE MARINE OWNERS Writer / Trisha Turner Photographer / Eli Beaverson

In May of 2019, Jarret Silagyi and his wife Lauren purchased Portside Marine Sales and Service in Cicero. Within a year, a fire had destroyed the boat dealership, the Silagyis were battling serious injuries from a boating accident, and Jarret no longer had his corporate job. That doesn’t count the pandemic that seemingly brought the world to a standstill earlier this year. However, the Silagyis’ luck finally turned when Jarret learned there might be a new

home available for Portside Marine. That home that would allow the boat dealership to join forces with similar business a few miles away. The two boat dealerships have been serving the Morse, Geist and surrounding areas for over 75 years combined.

And business is booming. As a statedesignated essential business, boat sales and service have been in high demand despite the coronavirus pandemic.

“A lot of people didn’t expect us to make it through the fire,” Jarret Silagyi says. “I look back and say, ‘Well, this wasn’t the easiest path, but here we are. And we’re happy to be here.’”

However, the future didn’t look so rosy to Silagyi as he raced up Olio Road from his home in Fishers on October 14, 2019. He was heading to a flame-engulfed Portside Marine at its prior location in Cicero. He didn’t have to guess what he might find when he arrived. The billows of smoke, visible in the sky even as he traveled from miles away, told the story.

In June of this year, Portside Marine moved to the Lakeview Marina property, and the Silagyis own the separate businesses located on North Hague Road in Noblesville. AUGUST 2020

“It’s been busier than ever,” Silagyi says.

“It was a gut-wrenching half-hour drive,

seeing smoke and knowing it was the dealership,” Silagyi says. The fire, caused by a combination of an electric spark and fuel vapors in Portside’s service area, destroyed the business. Employees were safe, and Portside never closed. Another boat dealership owner, Jeff Lingenfelter, offered any help that his business, Lakeview Marina, could provide. Lakeview assisted with getting the word out about Portside’s plans to remain open, moving boats off Portside’s damaged

property, providing extra tools, and even referring customers to Portside. One year prior, Jarret had ended the limousine and bus company he’d owned while also serving as chief operating officer of a paper-shredding company. In the fall of 2019 he and Lauren were battling back after seeing their business go up in flames before their eyes, but bad luck wasn’t done with them yet. On New Year’s Eve in 2019, a boating accident in Florida left the Silagyis with serious injuries that kept them in the area recovering for two months.

Then, in March of 2020 - right around the time the coronavirus pandemic kicked into high gear - the Silagyis found themselves searching for a new home for Portside, when state officials alerted them that they planned to use Portside’s property as the location for a bridge. Then Jarret’s corporate job ended. A chance conversation with a friend helped the couple turn the corner. That friend said he knew someone who might be interested in selling his business. And that someone was Lingenfelter, who’d been such a good partner following the fire at Portside. Portside had found a new home.

Owners Jarret and Lauren Silagyi

Today Portside Marine and Lakeview Marina each remain open. They both deal in new and used boats at the same Noblesville address, but the businesses are separate. Portside sells many fiberglass boats, and Lakeview’s offerings include pontoons and personal watercraft. “Hopefully customers will see a benefit to our being together, all on one property,” Silagyi says. While the Silagyis own both businesses, the Lingenfelter family, who opened Lakeview in 1983, remain involved. Jeff and his wife Anita are retiring in August, but there are still five Lingenfelters among the Lakeview staff. “Both businesses are long-tenured community businesses,” Silagyi says of Portside and Lakeview. “Both names deserve to continue on.” Silagyi hopes this focus on family continues with his own twin sons, who are toddlers. After all, Jarret and Lauren both grew up in family businesses and as boating enthusiasts - Jarret in Pittsburgh and Lauren near Lawrenceburg, Indiana. “My wife and I are looking forward to having one focused, family business - something we can carry on for the prior owners and carry on to our own sons,” Silagyi says. Fishers Parks & Recreation Director Sarah Sandquist

FISHERS AGRIPARK CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING Writer / Jon Shoulders Photographer / Brian Brosmer

A one-of-a-kind park is now open in Fishers for the enjoyment - and education - of individuals and families throughout Central Indiana. In early 2018, Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness first announced the idea for the AgriPark in

his State of the City address, and later that year plans were underway to build out the park, which spans approximately 33 total acres near 113th Street and Florida Road. “We really think it’s important that the community knows where their food comes from and has access to fresh, locally grown produce,” says Sarah Sandquist, director of Fishers Parks & Recreation. “We’re excited

AUGUST 2020

to offer something that is very different from the rest of our parks.” The idea behind the Fishers AgriPark is for visitors to learn firsthand amidst an actual working farm and gain knowledge on farming practices, technology and innovation. There’s a full produce garden as well as livestock, all tended by a full-time farm manager.

“Having actual livestock offers the opportunity to get up close with cows, chickens and sheep to experience a real farm setting,” says Sandquist, adding that the park also includes a nature trail and a play area made out of tractor tires. “We have a full-time coordinator in charge of programming, as well as a full-time farmer who is the manager.” The AgriPark garden includes a large variety of produce like snap peas, sweet corn, beans, squash, cucumber, kale, tomato, kohlrabi, peppers, strawberries and more. Three acres worth of produce was planted this year, and park leaders plan to ramp up the garden size in future years. “We have every kind of herb you could think of,” Sandquist says. “There’s cilantro, parsley and chives. We’re also growing a huge wall of sunflowers, and we’re anticipating having people come out for photo opportunities as well as lots of education around the sunflowers and using the seeds. We’ll be growing pumpkins in the fall, and they got planted in June so they should be ready just in time for October.”

Jackie Leeuw, Agriculture Coordinator

The AgriPark officially opened to the public on July 28, and leading up to the opening celebration, Fishers Parks leaders scheduled volunteers to work at the park two times per week to prep the grounds and garden. “There’s watering, weeding and picking to do, and we’d love to continue having volunteers come out,” Sandquist adds.

Trevor Wildey, Agriculture Manager

Park leaders also built out a five-acre tree nursery in the northwest corner of the park, including 200 trees planted earlier this year. After the trees have grown and are ready to be harvested, Sandquist says the Parks department plans to use them to replace trees in other Fishers parks that have died. “We also will use the trees in our right-ofways, and hope in the future to also offer a neighborhood grant program similar to our existing grant, but for use within residential yards,” Sandquist adds. “Right now, it’s only for right-of-way trees.” Fishers Parks & Recreation leaders plan to direct much of the fruits, veggies and eggs produced at the park toward food-insecure areas, and Sandquist says the department plans to coordinate with the Good Samaritan Network for donation of food surpluses. “We’re still working out quantities so everybody has the opportunity to get some, and the food is available for free pickup,”

Sandquist explains. “We’ve been doing it first-come, first-served and announcing when we have food shares to be picked up. Down the road, I would love to grow food that we can get to the Youth Assistance Program for their summer meals program.” Sandquist says AgriPark leaders will host structured programming beginning in the fall and plan to host a small corn maze at the park, too. “We’ll have a variety of one-day programming, dealing with how the farm translates to your own backyard,” she says. “It will cover growing a salsa garden and canning — the full process from planting the plants to preserving for when it’s not growing season.” Additional programming will include up-close visits with the livestock, which includes a cow named Mudsock. “We ran a fun naming campaign for the community and had several hundred

submissions,” Sandquist says. “There were several entries for Mudsock, and Brownie was another popular entry.” Sandquist says Fishers Parks officials are currently in talks with leaders at Hamilton Southeastern schools to develop a program that will combine classroom work and onsite farm programming. “We hope the program will be looped so you’ll be able to see a full growing cycle starting in the spring and finishing up the following school year in the fall with a harvest,” she says. “We’re excited about the programming that we’re coming up with for the park.” The Fishers AgriPark is located at 11171 Florida Rd. With the first day of school lingering in the not-so-distant future, you’re probably feeling both excited and overwhelmed, especially with COVID-19 casting doubt on just what school will look like for most students and families this year. From creating healthy sleep habits and establishing a good morning routine to handling back-to-school anxiety and learning how to make communication more manageable, we’ve got 10 general back to school tips and tricks for parents to help make this school year a good one for your family! 1. MAKE A COUNTDOWN

school. With this countdown ease into their school routine with bedtime, setting out their clothes for the next day and when they'll be waking up. It'll be hard to stick to those routines while wanting to get in as much fun as you can, but it will help the transition immensely for you and your kids if you start early. 2. POSITIVE ATTITUDE You know that your child will reap the benefits of going to school. Try to keep any anxiety or stress you may have from showing to your child. 3. VISIT THE SCHOOL (IF POSSIBLE)

This is a great practice for young kids Using a calendar, paper chain or whiteboard, starting preschool or Kindergarten. It is start a countdown a couple weeks before equally great for children entering a new AUGUST 2020

school. Map out their classes and let them try out their locker. Park where they will park and walk in, making their first day of school more familiar. 4. MORNING ROUTINE Routine is the key word here. It may take a few weeks or even months to figure out the perfect routine for your family, but once you've got it, stick with it. Write it out or discuss it with your kids to let them know how you'd like to see the morning go. Have them help you figure out what works best for them. 5. EVENING ROUTINE Although morning routines help with the ease into a new day, setting up an evening routine can make that morning routine breeze by. Again, see what works best for

your family. Maybe make a chart or an evening routine clock that shows what things they need to accomplish before lights out. Do as much as you can the night before so the next morning is simple (set out clothes, make lunches, look at the week ahead etc.) 6. GO SCHOOL SHOPPING Head to the store for their favorite foods in their packed lunch. Purchase the necessary school supplies or even a new First Day outfit. Get haircuts. Having a day with them to prepare for the new year ahead will let your kids know you want to make this as easy and as fun as possible for them.

home from school so there is no frustration in the morning to find these items. Make sure they know it's their space and their responsibility to keep their items there. 8. MAKE A CALENDAR Add all of the holidays and school info and hang it where your child can see it. If they join a club or sport, have them write in their games or practice dates and times to let them have a little responsibility over knowing when their time is scheduled. If you have a younger child, use stickers to let them know which days they have games or practices. Starting this habit of letting them schedule their time will help them decide what is too much on their plate.

7. MAKE A DROP ZONE Talk to your child about homework rules and where they should put papers that need to be looked at or signed. Have enough space for each child's backpack, shoes, water bottles or anything else they will be carrying

9. BE PRESENT As tempting as it is to tell our kids they have nothing to worry about as a way to distract them, sometimes the best thing we can do as parents is to simply listen.

If your child is finding school stressful, allow him or her to put their feelings into words so you can figure out exactly what is bothering them and (hopefully) find a solution to their worries. Spend 5 to 10 minutes connecting with each child in the morning or evening routine, with your phone put away. Talk about who they're excited to see or what they're going to do at recess. If they are nervous for the week ahead, brainstorm a family activity for the weekend. 10. OUTSOURCE YOUR TIME Know that it's okay to ask for help. Figure out what is taking up a lot of your time, therefore, keeping you from your family. Is there a way to pay to have it done by someone else? Hire a cleaning service, utilize grocery pick up or delivery, make crock-pot meals, carpool with other parents for practices. There are many ways to simplify if you are able to step back and see what needs to be adjusted.

CEO of Huse Culinary Craig Huse

BRING YOUR APPETITE HC TAVERN + KITCHEN OFFERS UP-SCALE, FAMILY-FRIENDLY DINING AT THE FISHERS DISTRICT Writer / Jon Shoulders Photographer / Eli Beaverson

In February HC Tavern + Kitchen officially opened at The Yard at Fishers District, and Craig Huse, CEO of Huse Culinary, the company also responsible for St. Elmo’s Steakhouse and Harry & Izzy’s, says he and his team wanted to create an eatery in the spirit of Harry & Izzy’s, but with an aesthetic unique to the Fishers area. “If we were planning Harry & Izzy’s today instead of 13 years ago, these are the menu items and the design that we would present to our guests,” Huse says. “I describe the HC as Harry & Izzy’s 2.0 - a classic American grill with a splash of sophisticated sexiness. It’s one-of-kind and truly Fishers’ own. HC in the name of the restaurant represents Hamilton County, but it’s also the initials of our organization.”

Huse says his team felt the timing was ideal to provide a classic American grill concept for the Fishers area, with a menu that is upscale yet accessible. “With Harry & Izzy’s only an eight-minute drive down the I-69, we needed to create a new concept specifically for Fishers,” Huse explains. “It’s a unique restaurant and menu created specifically for this location. There’s even a 71,000-piece mosaic tile of a roundabout on a feature wall above our main bar.” The Huse Culinary team began negotiating with real estate development group Thompson Thrift in the summer of 2018, and after purchasing the land for the HC Tavern + Kitchen project, the company hired Capitol Construction to start the build-out process in early 2019. The building spans 10,000 square feet, and the 26 / FISHERS MAGAZINE / AUGUST 2020 / atFishers.com

eatery’s design layout was completed by Phanomen Design. Huse says the reaction from local residents to both HC Tavern + Kitchen and 1933 Lounge, another Huse Culinary concept located at the Fishers District, has been positive since back when the projects were first announced. “Mayor Scott Fadness and the city have welcomed this restaurant-centric development,” he says. “Between the two restaurants, 200 jobs were created, and we’re pleased with not only the quantity of our new Huse Culinary family members, but the professional quality as well. The community response to both the 1933 Lounge by St. Elmo and the HC Tavern + Kitchen have been tremendous. We are grateful to be serving Hamilton County.”

The Yard at Fishers District includes several other dining destinations such as 101 Beer Kitchen, Fishers Test Kitchen, Sangiovese and more. Fishers Test Kitchen, which features three fully equipped kitchens operated by separate chef entrepreneurs honing their craft, opened at The Yard inside Sun King Brewing Company this past winter. According to Huse, HC Tavern + Kitchen seats 260 patrons and includes two levels, a four-season patio that seats 40, and two bars.

filet mignon, ribs, scallops and crab cakes. Saturday and Sunday brunch features castiron cinnamon roll bites, shrimp and grits, chicken biscuit minis, French press coffee, cocktails and more. Some of Huse’s own HC menu faves include the shaved Brussels sprouts salad, pimento cheese fritters, shrimp dumplings with ponzu and black vinegar, rainbow trout and salted honey cream pie. Huse says former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is an investor in the HC Tavern project.

The eatery’s lunch and dinner menu features “Peyton Manning dined regularly at St. soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees like

Elmo Steak House, and he approached me about investing when he learned of our plans to open Harry & Izzy’s next door in 2007,” Huse says. “We now have three Harry & Izzy’s locations and the HC Tavern + Kitchen is included in Harry & Izzy’s Inc., so Peyton is financially involved in all four.” Huse feels the diversity of the HC Tavern + Kitchen menu will appeal to a wide range of Central Indiana customers looking for a new culinary experience. “This is a scratch kitchen, and the ingredients are chef-selected for superior quality with priority given to local and

regional sourcing,” Huse says, adding that HC Tavern includes a staff of 125. “However, menu selections remain approachable. We operate as a classic American grill appealing to both conservative and adventurous palates.” HC Tavern + Kitchen, like many restaurants, weathered the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders. The restaurant officially opened back up for dine-in on May 11. HC Tavern + Kitchen is located at The Yard at Fishers District, at 9709 East 116th Street in Fishers. For additional information including menus, hours and a reservations page, call 317-5304242 and visit atthehc.com. The D1 Training Finch Creek team includes Coach Kray’Shawn Brewer, a former college football athlete and National Arena League signee, Coach Achzionna Riding, a Butler grad and Division 1 track and field athlete, and Recruiter Kiley McCollough, a Wittenberg University grad and certified personal trainer. area for a strength and conditioning concept akin to those found at Division 1 collegiate athletic programs. Bartholomew founded D1 Training to provide customized, sports-based training to help a wide range of ages groups achieve both sports and general fitness goals. The D1 Training gym franchise now has locations throughout the country including two in Indiana. “I was really impressed with what Will had built and their footprint,” Clarke says. “The D1 model recognizes that no matter what your training concept is, there’s a framework you have to use to be successful - that includes things like a proper dynamic warmup, proper movement prep, some strength component in there, lateral and athletic movements, and cool-downs. Then, how you plug that in, and with what movements, will be different for each person.” D1 Training Finch Creek offers one-on-one training as well as group fitness options, and scholastic training is typically broken down by age group - rookie (ages 7 to 11), developmental (ages 12 to 14), prep (high school ages), and overtime (student-athletes who might have specific training goals).
