2021 DIRECTORY & RELOCATION GUIDE
A LETTER FROM THE MAYOR OF WESTFIELD Training Camp. • Award winning parks and more than 110 miles of trails. • Remarkable local restaurants and pubs which make our downtown a “foodie paradise.” • And, so much MORE. These highlights are only part of what makes this community great. There is a sense of care in our community that sets us apart. This care has been on display over the past year more than ever in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. I have witnessed a community rallying together to rise to a challenge. Organizations partnering to make sure the most vulnerable are protected. Neighbors watching out for neighbors. And calls-to-action being answered with compassion. I think the “Westfield Way’ really is a defining phrase for our community and how we care for one another. I am happy you will be joining us on this journey.
Hello and Welcome to Westfield, On behalf of the City of Westfield, thank you for choosing this great community as your new home. We are honored every time we get to roll out our “welcome mat” to new residents and visitors. Westfield is a wonderful community to live, work and play. I never tire of telling people all we have to offer. We have grown from a small farming community to an exciting city that welcomes people from across the
country- and the world- every year. Our population now sits at a little over 40,000 people and we have been recognized as one of “2020’s Best Small Cities in America.” What makes us worthy of this recognition? A few highlights… • One of the top school districts in the state of Indiana with award winning schools. • One of Indiana’s safest cities. • Grand Park, our 400-acre sports campus and home to the Indy Eleven professional soccer team and the Indianapolis Colts 2 / 2021 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE

THE COTTAGES AT SANDERS GLEN 1901 Sanders Glen Circle Westfield, IN 317-648-0372 CottagesAtSandersGlen.com
Writer / Julie Yates Photography Provided
The Cottages at Sanders Glen is a new, luxury independent living complex designed for seniors who wish to locate in Westfield. A project of local company Patch Development, it offers the freedom of a maintenance-free lifestyle for a simple monthly rent payment, without the requirement of a large entrance fee. With single-level construction, each home has both a front and back entry, and is located on Midland Trace Trail, within walking or biking distance of all downtown Westfield has to offer. For longtime northside Indianapolis resident Dr. Everett Fleming, it is a perfect option. When his family settled in Westfield, the retired veterinarian found himself 40 minutes away from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A widower, he wanted an autonomous living situation that enabled him to be close to family, and also offered opportunities for community involvement.
“I had been looking around Westfield for several months when I found out about the Cottages last fall,” Fleming says. “My family lives just a few miles away and we would drive past it from time to time to see how it was coming along. We eventually took a tour and it seemed like a really good fit. I’m excited to be in a brand-new building.” Three different floor plans are offered in each of the community’s four buildings. Each apartment has high-end finishes such as granite countertops, and top-of-the-line appliances are included. The interior designs are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design, which means showers and doorways can accommodate residents who require a wheelchair. “I chose the studio floor plan because the floor space seemed right for me,” Fleming says. “Even though it’s called a studio, it still has a bedroom area plus a living room and kitchen space. At this point, I don’t need extra bedrooms because my family has their own houses close by.”
2021 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 3
Each layout was designed to feel spacious. Besides the 716-square-foot studio plan that rents at $1,950 per month, there are also one- and two-bedroom options. The onebedroom is $2,499 and the two-bedroom is $2,800. Both have attached garages. Living at the Cottages means living a worryfree lifestyle. All repairs, lawn care and snow removal are taken care of by the staff. Electric, water and trash removal services are included in the rent, so paying bills is no longer a task to be crossed off a to-do list. “Even though nearby Sanders Glen Assisted Living it not affiliated with the Cottages, it’s good to know that if I need to move to an assisted-living situation in the future, it’s right there. It’s great that the Cottages are right on the Midland Trail. There may be a dog in my future. I’m looking forward to spring and enjoying the amenities of Westfield. It’s such a growing community and it seems like something new is popping up all the time.”

Today, more than 50 million Americans refuse to see a dentist due to dental fear and anxiety. Dentists trained by the A.M.I.I. CARDON OFFERS COMFORT AND COMMUNITY
Story & Photography Provided
Social isolation poses serious health risks, especially for older people. It significantly increases a person’s risk of premature death and is associated with a 50% increased risk of dementia. Poor social relationships are also associated with an increased risk of heart disease and stroke as well as higher rates of depression, anxiety and suicide. Sometimes it’s hard to pull yourself out of the loneliness you are feeling, especially right now in a world forcing us to distance from each other. But just because we are physically distant doesn’t mean we can’t still find and feel community with others. That’s where CarDon comes in to help residents and their loved ones find meaningful connections.
STAY SOCIALLY ENGAGED Being part of a CarDon community like Copper Trace Family-First Senior Living Community helps seniors stay socially active. This community is a collaborative environment. It’s like a big family really. Every day residents have the chance to interact with nurses, dietary associates, the life enrichment team, physical or occupational therapists and other residents.
From providing creative activities to coordinating family visits — yes, the community is beginning to open back up for visitation — the Copper Trace staff makes sure residents never feel neglected or alone. Find Caregivers, Neighbors, New Family Members At Copper Trace, residents receive a greeting every day from staff members, who offer a warm smile, a comforting word and a health and wellness check, both physically and mentally. The dietary staff provides delicious — and nutritious — meals three times a day. And depending on the ever-changing regulations surrounding COVID-19, residents may be able to socially distance while eating and chatting with other residents in the dining room. But even if the dining room isn’t open, the dietary staff serves up a healthy meal made with pure love. Either way — you’ll get a hearty helping of human interaction with every meal. Community is shown when team members engage with, provide emotional support to and know each resident by name. Copper Trace is a family to go to. To talk. To listen. To smile. To care. 8 / 2021 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE
REST ASSURED Human beings were created to be in community with one another. At Copper Trace, your loved one will be surrounded by neighbors as caring as family. You can rest easy knowing that residents and staff members are providing company and good cheer throughout the day. Copper Trace is an ideal home for seniors, as it allows them to maintain their independence with the assurance of assistance when needed. We’re living in uncertain times, but one thing’s for certain about Copper Trace — your loved one will be in good hands here. They will be cared for on a daily basis, and also when more immediate health needs arise. And they’ll have fellow residents in their support system.
STAY CAREFREE WITH COMMUNITY Through thick and thin, the staff at Copper Trace will keep your loved one’s spirits high. No matter their age, ability or experience, residents are made to feel special, attended to, cared for and loved. And that is how CarDon helps each resident find community.
A STRONG AND LASTING LEGACY CUSTOM CONCRETE LOOKS BACK ON 50 YEARS IN BUSINESS
Writer / Christy Heitger-Ewing Photos Provided
Custom Concrete has been a staple in the Westfield community for more than half a century. The company was started in 1969 by Joe Carr, who originally had a different vision. He, along with his brother and a couple of his friends, decided they wanted to start framing houses, but soon found there weren’t enough houses to frame because builders needed foundations installed. A problem solver and entrepreneur at heart, Carr bought a set of forms and started pouring foundations so that he had houses to frame. Before long, he and his team found their groove in pouring foundations.
ready to wear, having all of its buttons, starched and ironed. He felt the same way about foundations - that they should be ready for building, excavated with footings and walls, waterproofed with slabs - so he brought Ready-to-Wear foundations to the Indiana market. Now, many years later, several companies have adopted this idea across the nation. “He invented that process, and in a lot of ways, he perfected it,” Ells says. Custom Concrete grew in the 1980s and 1990s, primarily as a residential contractor, as they installed thousands of foundations of all sizes. The Great Recession, however, hit residential construction hard. According to Ells, 75% of the work vanished.
“He called it the ‘Ready-to-Wear’ basement,” says Jason Ells, senior vice president of The team faced challenges and uncertainty, Custom Concrete. but Custom Concrete didn’t give up. Instead, they followed the example set by The concept evolved from Carr’s experience Joe Carr and diversified by offering multiple buying shirts, when he was a young man, services. For example, their Custom Truck and feeling frustrated by the fact the shirts and Auto division, originally intended to often didn’t have buttons or sleeves cut to service their own fleet, was made public so length. He liked the idea of a shirt being 2021 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 9
they could provide maintenance and repair for both small and large vehicles. They also dove into commercial construction, and now have a robust commercial division that pours foundations for large warehouses and industrial buildings, some of which are more than one million square feet. In addition, they have a foundation repair division. On top of all that, they tweaked their residential division to include room additions and special projects. “We can do the smallest of residential foundations to some of the largest commercial foundations,” says Ells, noting that they are always looking for ways to improve their ability to take care of customers, and bring them the best value. To offer the best, they have to hire the best, and they are intentional about doing so. Custom Concrete is dedicated to investing in their people - educating, training, mentoring and coaching them to be the best version of themselves. They often hire graduates who are fresh out of high school many from Westfield High School, the alma
mater of several team members who have built a career with Custom Concrete. One important part of high school is to help make students career-ready, and there is no one path for getting there. While the next step after high school is attending college for some people, for others it’s joining the military, or starting a vocation or apprenticeship program.

“We’re not anti-secondary education,” Ells says. “We are just not convinced that a degree is the only path to success. We’re pro-people rolling up their sleeves, pulling on their boots, and learning a really great trade. We offer that.” While Westfield is vastly different today than it was when Carr started Custom Concrete five decades ago, it’s still a place where people care for and look out for one another. Custom Concrete is dedicated to being part of that culture by doing their part to give back to the community. For example, Custom Concrete partnered with Open Doors of Westfield in donating, along with other partners, a significant portion of the foundation for the Open Doors facility. The company continues to invest in ongoing holiday donation programs. Carr passed away this past January at the age of 86, having left behind a remarkable legacy. He started pouring foundations to support his family. Little did he know how many families would be taken care of today and over the years because of what he started back in the late 1960s. Today, the company employs 475 people across several locations. Carr’s work ethic lives on in today’s team.
“The grit that he exemplified on a dayto-day basis is still seen today,” Ells says. “That’s how we’re able to slop in the mud and endure the hot and the cold to take care of our customers each day. Our guys wouldn’t have it any other way.” The team often jokes that they don’t work a nine-to-five job, but rather a five-tonine. Not that they’re complaining. “It comes with the job because we’re working with a perishable product,” Ells says. “When we get it ready to pour, we pour it and see it through. We can’t say, ‘We’ll finish this tomorrow.’ ”
AUTO CARE FOR ALL MAKES AND MODELS
The company’s purpose is to improve and positively impact people’s lives. That’s why Custom Concrete offers their employees a robust benefits and wellness program. “Being able to see people buy their first home, pay for their kids’ college, get their child braces, or pay off their home is the most rewarding aspect of working in this business,” says Ells, who also loves driving all over the city and state seeing buildings Custom Concrete has helped create. “I take pride in that, as does the team,” he says. “We’ve literally helped build the city.” Custom Concrete is located at 17241 Foundation Parkway in Westfield. WILD BIRDS UNLIMITED PROVIDES PRODUCTS FOR BIRD HOBBYISTS AND ENTHUSIASTS Writer / Renee Larr Photographer / Ron Wise
With spring weather approaching, opportunities for outdoor hobbies like bird watching increase. Wild Birds Unlimited offers products and advice for the novice to experienced bird watcher. Charity Rausch previously worked in retail buying, but felt the need for something different. “I was planning inventory and things like that,” Rausch says. “I worked for the Finish Line in Indianapolis’ corporate office, but ultimately left to teach at Indiana University in retail studies. I was a visiting lecturer. I was teaching buying, inventory management, visual merchandising everything retail-wise.” Rausch was commuting from Zionsville to Bloomington for work. “I had a little boy, and it just wasn’t working,” Rausch says. “The commute wasn’t working. My husband was traveling. I started looking for something a little more
local and I found the Wild Birds Unlimited corporate office.”
bought an existing store,” Rausch says.
Rausch moved the location from the Carmel-Westfield area to Noblesville.
The stores already have a loyal following, but during the pandemic, Rausch’s business has increased with new customers.
While many businesses suffered during the Rausch worked in the franchise office in Carmel pandemic, Rausch witnessed her business grow. for about four years. Ultimately, she decided to own and run her own franchise location. “I credit a large part of the growth over the last year to the pandemic,” Rausch “When I opened the first location in 2014, it says. “What I mean by that is many people are working from home, so birding, bird was a bit of a learning curve for me,” Rausch says. “I had worked in retail but never owned watching and feeding birds has increased tremendously. People are trying to find a business. Going from working in retail to hobbies while they’re stuck at home.” operating a retail business was a transition.”
“Four months after we bought the store, we moved,” Rausch says. “We just moved down the street, but it changed our address to a Noblesville address. The move gave us better visibility. We were in a perfect location, and it jumped our business forward.” Rausch opened a second location on 96th Street in Indianapolis in 2019. “We wanted to expand our business, so we 2021 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 17
“We have so many new people coming in who just got into the hobby in the last year,” Rausch says. “It’s been enjoyable for us. Not only are our regular customers home more, doing more birding, but we’ve added more new hobbyists.” Rausch had to change her business model during the shutdown to cope with her physical stores being closed.
“Our whole business changed,” Rausch says. “We launched our online store in 2020 at both locations. It helped us survive because our customers could still order online and pick up with our curbside service. It’s been so popular we’re planning to continue that service for our customers. Our clients have been so supportive.” Wild Birds offers delivery services as well. All products are pulled locally from the stores. “One thing that sets us apart is our service,” Rausch says. “Our staff is so knowledgeable on birds and the hobby of birding. They’re there to offer suggestions and advice to our customers. They’re more like experts on local birds. Guests can come in and get a lot of verbal information because they’re not just salespeople. They’re involved in the hobby as well.” During the stay-at-home orders, Rausch was able to keep any employee who wanted to work. “We did have some employees who opted not to work due to health reasons, which we understood,” Rausch says. “We were also able to keep anyone who wanted to come in busy with online orders and delivery.” Rausch stresses a few differences between her business and many big-box stores. “Our food is different than what you would get at Target, Walmart or Meijer,” Rausch says. “Bird food isn’t their main business. We get all our food from a local farmer in Ohio. There is no waste in our food. We don’t put seeds in our food that birds won’t eat. A lot of other companies add fillers to their food, like millet. It keeps their prices down, but the birds won’t eat it. People forget birds are a lot like us. If something doesn’t look good to them, they won’t eat it.” Wild Birds Unlimited is located at 14753 Hazel Dell Crossing, Suite 400 in Noblesville. EXPLORE THESE PARKS AND TRAILS IN HAMILTON COUNTY
Photos provided by Hamilton County Tourism
Spring has sprung, and it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather. Have you explored the 60+ parks in Hamilton County, or the 600+ miles of trails? Here are a few notable parks and trails to explore in your own backyard.
CENTRAL PARK
FLAT FORK CREEK PARK
FISHERS This is the park that remains a “hidden gem” that shouldn’t be any longer. Flat Fork Creek Park opened in December 2015 and features nature trails, a boardwalk, a mountain bike course and three treehouses tucked in the woods. Climb to the top of the 60-foot sledding hill for panoramic views.
CARMEL The picturesque lagoon, boardwalk and bridge at Central Park make it a popular spot for nature photography, but it’s also a great place to get your steps in. The paved pathway loops around the water and connects to Central Park East Woods, with tree trunk carvings of forest animals hidden along the trails and access to the Monon Greenway.
WESTFIELD With four miles of wooded trails, this is a favorite for families. Explore nature on your own in the great outdoors or visit the Nature Center to learn more about Indiana’s woodlands and the importance of preserving plants and animals in their natural habitat.
NOBLESVILLE Fun fact: this is the county’s only remaining covered bridge, constructed in 1870 and later restored in 1999. Potter’s Bridge is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a centerpiece for the 66 acre park surrounding the historic icon.
RITCHEY WOODS NATURE PRESERVE
FISHERS Ritchey Woods is one of only two state designated nature preserves in Hamilton County. Visitors are welcome dawn to dusk to hike, bird watch or simply spend time in nature. Remember to stay on the trail at all times, as this land is protected.
FOREST PARK
COOL CREEK PARK & NATURE CENTER
POTTER’S BRIDGE PARK
NOBLESVILLE Chances are you’ve heard of this 150-acre park - after all, it’s one of Hamilton County’s oldest parks, dating back to 1925. There are plenty of things to do for families at Forest Park, including a miniature golf course, playground and pool.
STRAWTOWN KOTEEWI PARK
NOBLESVILLE This 750-acre park is a popular destination for endurance athletes, hikers and bikers. But, you don’t need to be training for a triathlon to enjoy the nature trails, wetlands and prairies.
TRAILS
Did you know Hamilton County has 600+ miles of trails? Each city has its own urban MACGREGOR PARK pathway, winding through downtown WESTFIELD districts and scenic spots. Check out the Tucked off of US-31 and Highway 38, Monon Greenway in Carmel, Westfield MacGregor Park offers three miles of trails and Sheridan plus the Midland Trace ideal for hiking and walking. The paths wind Trail (Westfield), White River Greenway through native prairies, open fields and (Noblesville) and the Nickel Plate Trail wetlands, making this a perfect habitat for (Fishers), coming soon. wildlife such as birds and deer. 2021 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 19

THANK YOU ESSENTIAL WORKERS March marked the one-year anniversary since The World Health Organization declared a new respiratory virus, COVID-19, a pandemic. The past 12-month period has been one of the most challenging in living history for the public, frontline healthcare/ essential workers, and society. Yet, despite the ongoing pandemic, these workers were called upon daily to meet our basic needs during the COVID-19 shutdown and helped keep the world moving forward. It is with recognition and deep appreciation that we extend a heartfelt thank you to all the essential and frontline workers that worked daily. You are the workers who represent the medical and healthcare, telecommunications, education, information technology systems, defense, food and agriculture, transportation and logistics, energy, water and wastewater, law enforcement, and public works industries. You are our heroes!

SURFACE SOLUTIONS
O’MALIA’S HARD SURFACE RESTORATION CAN HANDLE EVEN THE TOUGHEST JOBS Writer / Matt Keating Photography Provided
John O’Malia, owner of O’Malia’s Hard Surface Restoration in Westfield, says he learned the value of high-quality customer service from his family. His uncle Joe owned the O’Malia’s grocery chain, which had several locations in Indianapolis and Carmel. His parents, Helen and Bill O’Malia, owned O’Malia’s Living in Carmel, which offers products for fireplaces and outdoor spaces. “I learned that how you treat the customer is the key to running a successful business,” O’Malia says. “It’s what the customer remembers, and it determines whether or not they want to continue doing business with you. It was ingrained in me as I was growing up.” O’Malia says it always helps to go the extra mile. “You always want to do some extra work that will make them remember you,” O’Malia says. “I’ve been doing that since we started.”
sure every customer is happy. “We really want our customers to trust that we will do a great job,” O’Malia says. “We work quickly, and we are also very affordable. We can take on any hard surface that needs cleaned. We can do outstanding work on grout, tile, brick, natural stone, concrete, stucco and travertine.”
bars and retail stores.
“For residential properties, we can do kitchen and bathroom floors, the kitchen counter tops, your hallways and your entryways,” he says. “We also do a great “We want satisfied customers to tell their job on your showers, pool decks, garage family and friends about us,” O’Malia says. floors, patios and other areas of your home. “We also like to tell people that we do a complete hard surface cleaning and restoration We can really get the tough areas like your driveways and sidewalks too.” process. We do a pre-treatment, where we apply a deep-cleaning solution that loosens up O’Malia adds that the company sees a lot of any dirt, grime, oils and bacteria that may be repeat commercial business, which includes on the surface. It’s very thorough.” tile floors, brick and stone floors, lobbies, offices and entryways. The next step is pressure cleaning. O’Malia adds that return business has been a long-term goal.
“We use contained, high-pressure water to penetrate the toughest areas, and we use up to 280 degrees of heat,” O’Malia says. “We also do a great vacuum where our process removes the soil and dirty waters off of your floors.”
O’Malia started the company in January of O’Malia says the company services homes, 2016, and says he and his staff strive to make apartments, restaurants, office buildings, 30 / 2021 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE
“We recently cleaned the Chick-fil-A on U.S. 31 in Westfield, and were complimented on our work,” O’Malia says. “In our commercial work, we do hallways, restrooms, kitchens, counters and other areas of a commercial business. We use different detergents for commercial properties. We use pressure washers that are very effective.”
O’Malia is proud that the company uses a simple, nontoxic and eco-friendly cleaning solution to agitate the dirt ingrained into a floor. He says this is much more effective than simply mopping. “We have a floor-cleaning tool that applies heated water at the perfect cleaning pressure,” he says. “It keeps the floors from getting damaged. As the water is being applied to the floor, it’s also vacuum-extracted at five gallons per minute, leaving the surface almost completely dried.” Tile and grout in homes or businesses are also easily taken care of. “We take tile sealants very seriously because they really protect your floors from stains and dirt,” O’Malia says. “The sealants make your floor look great because they add color to your floors. The sealants add a nice shine and gloss to your floors. We have received some nice compliments about our work on tile and grout. We can also work on any natural stones you have. We can clean any hard surface. We clean roofs, and we can clean any natural stone.” O’Malia says grout sealants are also important. “We can apply an excellent clear sealant that doesn’t alter the appearance of your floor,” he says. “It really penetrates deep into the grout, forming a protective barrier. We also use a great color sealant on grout lines. Kitchen floors really get a lot of foot traffic, and the sealants are a solid way to make your tiles look great.” O’Malia says he is typically on job sites, doing and supervising work. “I want to ensure that our customers are very happy with the work we do so they will want to hire us again, or tell their family and friends,” O’Malia says. ZACHARY KLIPP
Zachary with DJ Indiana Jones at the Meijer Big Ten Championship tailgate party December 2019.

When Westfield Intermediate School student Zachary Klipp isn’t in the classroom, he stays busy honing his craft as a DJ. “I just love creating my own things,” the 12-year-old says. “I love music. I love making a party and keeping it going.” Klipp traces his initial fascination with deejaying back to hearing song remixes on the radio. “When we were in long car rides we would listen to the radio most of the time, and when remixes came on, I was always fascinated and I always liked them,” he says. With the help of his mother, an 8-year-old Klipp enrolled in his first set of DJ courses while living in Dallas, studying under an instructor by the name of Dan Quinn. These DJ studies continued when Klipp and his family made the move to Westfield. “After we moved here, I was looking for things to do, and that happened for maybe one or two years,” Klipp says. “Then, I found this place called Bach to Rock music school, and they had deejaying. On my birthday of 2018 or 2019, my parents got me into that school as a gift, and I started doing deejaying again.” When asked about his biggest inspiration as a DJ, Klipp quickly responds with DJ Indiana Jones. A beloved Indianapolis figure, Ron “DJ Indiana Jones” Miner passed 2021 DIRECTORY AND RELOCATION GUIDE / 37
away unexpectedly in December 2020 at the age of 50. His loss was felt far and wide, with global icons like Mark Ronson and Questlove voicing their condolences across social media. To Klipp, DJ Indiana Jones was not only a respected DJ, but also a teacher at Bach of Rock. “What I liked about him was he was really positive,” Klipp says of DJ Indiana Jones. As of late, Klipp has been posting his own DJ mixes digitally via his Mixcloud account (under DJ_Klippstr). Outside of deejaying, Klipp is also improving his musical chops via the Westfield Intermediate School band program. “I am involved in my school’s band,” he says. “I used to play the trombone, but now I play the baritone.”

When asked about his future goals as a DJ, Klipp humbly states that he just wants to keep getting better. “My goal is to always improve, to just keep getting better,” he says. “And also to keep the party going.” IUPUI Jagathon March 2020
