HARMONY IN THE MAKING
THE SPECTACLE BEGINS!
The journey has begun: three days of pure musical madness presented by the best DJs in the world. An overwhelming rollercoaster embarks on a marvellous ride through the Amicorum Spectalum, leaving the People of Tomorrow breathless from the moment they enter the magical grounds of Tomorrowland. Start the day, for instance, with Carl Cox and his Daybreak Session on the Mainstage. Artists like marshmello and Tiësto will keep firing up the crowd towards that ultimate climax. Elsewhere, a true legend returns to the scene, and Tomorrowland has the honour of hosting the homecoming of the biggest concept in trance: Trance Energy. Make sure to drop by this gateway to dance history!
distinguished audience,
WELCOME HOME!
Tomorrowland is your new home, and to welcome everyone officially, a special display is being prepared. Make sure to be at the Mainstage at 5 a.m. if you wish to see the opening show.

uptempo lovers,
THE WIZARD IS BACK! Arisen from the dead during this very weekend, Tomorrowland welcomes the amicorum spectaculum most powerful Wizard ever to come from the Netherlands. Curious? He will unleash his spells at the Wind Stage.
Welcome one, and welcome all, to a show that will be off-the-wall! Everything has been prepared, the rehearsals have been rounded off, and today, the curtain rises. Ernesto, Raya, Ekatarina, and Triboulet stand at the ready to show you the true meaning of performance. But they are not alone; all across the Holy Grounds, their friends arrive, ready to shower you with music and to dance to your delight. With an enormous array of stages to choose from, perhaps you’ll feel overwhelmed. But worry not: this is your new home and you can go wherever you please. Every creature

in this wondrous world will welcome you with open arms. You are free to roam, explore, peek around corners, and trail down winding paths. You are free to jump into the big crowds or get intimate at the small stages. You’re free to let go of barriers, to make new friends and to become family. That is what the Amicorum Spectaculum stands for, after all: it is a family, a troupe, a wild band of performers, bound by a sacred love for art. Today, you too will experience that love. The spectacle begins; time to dive in, one and all, and forge family bonds to last a lifetime.

Gracious Friends, Have you ever had the pleasure, truly, to dance? To float atop your tiptoes, to translate rhythms into gestures, to feel with all your soul that all your movements are just – right? Today, as our Spectaculum begins, it is time for
Once, I was like you: a child, unable to stand still whenever music played. I suspect your life then took a different turn, but as for me, I never could sit still again. My family all dancers, I inherited my place within the Amicorum guild. Even so, I worked as hard I could, since dancing never felt like work. The notes open spaces in my mind, through my limbs deep timbres flow seductively – trusting these feelings, I soared on the trapeze and twirled across the dance floor day upon day, ‘till practice made perfect. Now, having earned the honour of spearheading the Amicorum Spectaculum, I realise something: simply to dance is more important than to be perfect. And I want to share this joy with you.
nothing but that feeling. I write to you today to encourage you to move. Today, the doors to Tomorrowland open; you’re still fresh-faced and full of energy, and nothing’s there to hold you back. Go on then, dears. Take a few first cautious steps around and find your headings, find a bite to eat and a drink to sip. But you must promise me this: once you hear that joy called music, be a careless little kid again, and don’t sit still one second. From Mainstage to the grand club called Freedom, from the Harbour House to the Organ of Harmony, I want to see you turn into a rolling sea of restless dancers. Try it out, and you’ll know a joy greater than anything else in the world.
Ekatarina – DANCER

HANDS UP HIGH,
SIX MILES IN THE SKY! From the most exotic corners of the world, visitors of Tomorrowland travel towards the festival site by airplane, and some lucky birds get treated to one-of-a-kind partyflights. These trips live up to their infamous reputation: magical gate parties, the finest cuisine prepared by Flemish chefs and insane sets by on-board DJs. Flying from 79 cities worldwide in 236 flights, Brussels Airlines brings 10,000 festival goers to the Tomorrowland site. For those on the partyflights, the festival already starts on board of the airplane. Thousands of feet above the ground, a crowd of adventurers holds their glowsticks in the air, excited that they’ll soon land on the festival grounds. One of these flights leaves from the sunny shores of Malaga, where we checked in to travel along on the party plane.
Surrounded by palm trees and the azure blue sea we find the airport of Malaga. On these breezy shores, the People of Tomorrow gather to get on one of the partyflights which will lift them six miles high into the air, only to go straight to the festival area in Boom. We walk into the grand departure hall of the airport, where we see stressed-out businessmen and families run from gate to gate. But in between this crowd we find some people with sunglasses, tattoos and colorfoul garments… The outfits of these party people are all different, but they have two things in common: the Tomorrowland bracelets around their wrists and the smiles on their faces. The atmosphere at the lobby of the airport is one of anticipation. While some festivalgoers are waiting in silence, others run into the departure hall with their hands up high, speakers on their shoulders, singing along to their favourite songs. More and more people enter the gate area, dressed in bandanas and top hats, flags around their shoulders waving like capes. There’s even one fellow with a unicorn head. Old and new friends meet, all with the same energy and excitement in their eyes, which glows up even more ardently when they see Amare descend through the clouds. The crowd runs shouting towards the window, armed with iPhones, handycams and selfie sticks, anxious to get a first snapshot of the vehicle which will soon take them on their magic journey.
Type: Airbus A320 Wingspan: 34.10m Height: 11m
Minutes later we enter our quarters for the next two and a half hours: a grand airplane lit up in purple and orange. We find comfortable chairs waiting for us, a fancy menu, and purple glowsticks. The whole aircraft is dressed up in a magical Tomorrowland theme. We have a funny feeling of recognition: it’s starting to feel like coming home. People are relaxed and joking around. The safety instructions are accompanied by enthusiastic cheers, and even the flight attendant can’t hold her laugh. After the ascent, accompanied by even more roars and shouts, drinks are handed out. In the front of the plane, Tim Boury, one of the best-awarded chefs of Flanders, is seen preparing food. Spicy scents of roasted chicken, vinaigrettes and parmesan cheese fill the plane while the meals are handed out. The delicious dinner is accepted joyfully by the hungry travellers. Tomorrowland Mojito’s and Belgian Beers are opened. And that’s when it’s time to get the party started.
AMARE FACTS & FIGURES
DJ Dimaro, a tall man covered in tattoos and a Tomorrowland T-shirt, takes his place behind the DJ deck set up in the front of the plane. Moments later the cabin is taken over by beats and melodies as Dimaro plays his first techno track. The travellers close the windows and throw their arms up, glowsticks colouring the space a deep purple. Whistles blow, hands clap, fists pump and people are swinging in their seats – we can feel a comfortable ‘turbulence’ from the collective movement. Dimaro transitions into a darker track and for one moment it’s like belgium we’re deep underground, in the Rave Cave on the festival, instead of miles up in the sky. But we’re not quite there yet. Having partied for hours, we’ve covered half of Europe on our way to Belgium. In

the meantime, the festival is already here with us, in the music and the smiling faces, crossing borders and languages. “Throw your hands up for Tomorrowland!” DJ Dimaro shouts. An artist with an electric violin jumps up out of nowhere and starts improvising to Dimaro’s beats. The crowd goes wild; “Arriva, arriva!” they shout in Spanish. While the violinist and the DJ are in full flow, the whole crowd loses track of time and distance. Everyone sings along with ‘This is Freedom’. And that’s when everyone feels it: this actually is freedom! We came together in a plane full of strangers who in mere minutes turned into one family, partied and danced together, enjoyed the best flight of their lives. And this is just the beginning: we have a full festival weekend ahead of us, and only when this plane is landed and the crowd disembarked will the real event start. These are true People of Tomorrow and they’ve travelled the world to take over Boom!
AMAZING AIRPLANE Amare is the pride of the Brussels Airlines fleet during this weekend, flying to 7 destinations to transfer the People of Tomorrow from country to country. This plane was transformed into a great Bird of Tomorrow, entirely in Tomorrowland style. It is the only Global Journey airplane which has a DJ playing as well as a Flemish chef cooking aboard, and it’s bound to create an unforgettable experience for its passengers. Some of the biggest globetrotters of Tomorrowland opted for more than just a GJ package and chose the Discover Europe tour, in which they too used Amare. The bird took them to cities like Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Ibiza, and Budapest amicorum before spectaculum finishing their tour at Tomorrowland itself!

CULINARY
HEIGHTS
This year, Tim Boury has been awarded ‘Most talented chef of Flanders’ by leading culinary guide Gault&Millau. Today this legend is aboard the partyflight to share his culinary skills as a part of the Flemish Kitchen Rebels. He prefers cooking for an enthusiastic crowd like this over serving his usual high-brow guests. “These people are more like me,” Tim explains. “I’m also an avid festivalgoer; relaxed and down to earth.” That’s why we’re not surprised to find out that after our flight, Tim will go on to the festival himself for his third year at Tomorrowland. “Over there I won’t be cooking but partying with my friends, enjoying the whole festival!” For Tim it’s the first time cooking on a plane. “Although it’s quite outside my comfort zone, I prepared the food well and I managed to finish a great meal for every single person on the plane. It’s no coincidence that music and food work together so well; people relax around a meal, as well as at a concert. It’s a chance to meet new people, have new experiences and cross borders. That’s also one of my missions, to give this plane full of Spaniards a taste of the Flemish kitchen.’’ And according to the satisfied faces and the amicorum spectaculum empty plates we see after the dinner, we can only conclude that Tim succeeded!

ALWAYS, EVERYWHERE Let’s get physical, digital. Those lyrics seem more apt for this era than the one in which they were written, don’t they? To make sure you stay on top of your game, we highly recommend downloading the Tomorrowland App. With a line-up to peruse over breakfast, a schedule to check-check-double-check and personalise, and a map that will guide you from Armin to Martin ASAP, the Tomorrowland App is the perfect tool to make the most of your weekend.
Don’t forget to check out the People of Tomorrow App while you’re at it; this separate social app is the perfect way to connect or reconnect with like-minded souls from all around the globe. This way, your heart will leave even fuller. To download the app, find it in your Google Play or App Store.
MISSING COUPLE :
CUTE STATUETTES With the expansion of Tomorrowland over the past years, a new species has joined the green fields of Boom. Cute little Art for Thought (AfT) statuettes have moved to the beautiful terrain, forming a colourful addition to Tomorrowland. Unfortunately, and for unknown reasons, they’ve run away! All we could find was the pictured silhouette. Can you find the corresponding statue in Tomorrowland Today’s pages or on the Tomorrowland festival site itself? Take a creative selfie with it, send it to today@tomorrowland.com and you have a shot at appearing in tomorrow’s paper.
TATT’S LIFE Ever had the feeling that this whole Tomorrowland thing is getting under your skin? Well, how about taking it very, very literally? The festival’s very own tattoo shop is open for business and more than ready to put its stamp on pretty much anything. Get yourself the ultimate Tomorrowland souvenir… for life.
Your love for Tomorrowland is massive. Every year People of Tomorrow from all over the world go into a tattoo shop and get inked with a derivative of the Tomorrowland icon. There’s no way of expressing the festival’s gratitude towards your desire to stay connected with it so permanently, so the least Tomorrowland could do was open a tattoo parlour on-site. This year the tattoo shop works on two levels: getting the tattoo and preserving it. On the one hand they have 6 professional tattoo artists and their unique designs. One of the artists is Peggy Verbist. “I’ve made a series of unique Tomorrowland-themed designs, among which is a mandala containing the festival’s logo. And our schedule is pretty much booked, so we’ll have our hands full this weekend!” On the other hand, there’s the Tattoo Care team lead by Carl & Johan: “Tattoos are modern art, a memory printed on your body that should last forever. That’s why you should take extra good care of it.” If you’re already a proud tattoo owner you should definitely pay a visit to Carl & Johan’s apothecary full of creams and crèmes. They will gladly help you preserve your finest and deepest memories, expressions and beliefs – right there on your skin.
amicorum spectaculum The Tattoo shop is located on your left hand coming out of the main entrance and is opened daily from noon to 8 p.m. You can make a reservation by sending an e-mail to tattoo@tomorrowland.com.

Rene spent a month putting together the most wondrous contraption. It may look like ‘just a wooden box’, but it actually contains USB chargers, a stereo, power outlets, a blender, and a cooler. The Danish McGyver’s a turntable short of having his own festival, basically.

LAIDBACK LOUNGE
The perfect way to start the day, a much-needed intermezzo, the chillest way to cool down from a long day of dancing; DreamVille Chillout offers you comfort on every level. The Chillout is doubling in size this year, providing even more R&R for your body, soul and tummy.
FRIDAY SCHEDULE This is the schedule for the DreamVille gym. A training lasts 45 min. with a break of 15 min.
TIME
GYM AREA
Get active at the beach volleyball court, plunge into one of the many beanbags or order a yummy meal. You can even pre-order online so that you don’t have to wait! The Chillout stays open late (until 3 a.m.) so you can have a night snack and a moment of reflection before heading back to the tent for a snooze. And there’s no better match to a Chillout lounge than that guy named Laidback Luke; he’ll be hosting a Kung Fu class at 10 a.m. on Friday. Equally good for the soul are the yummy beats by Destin (Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) and Paige (Friday, midnight – 3 a.m.) or the sound bowl sessions by Kavafoglu and Nidhi on Saturday and Sunday (10 to 10:30 a.m. and 12 to 12:30 p.m.).

BECOMING BEAUTIFUL
There are a lot of stores, stands and stuff to do, see or eat at the DreamVille Marketplace. If you’re feeling a bit rough this morning, or don’t want to bother with the whole process of getting ready for the day, DreamVille’s got you. M.A.C and Wella have combined forces to provide you with the best care for hair and face – just let their Angels of Beauty do their thing. And their thing is? Making you the prettiest you can be!
Andi Marti (30) Zurich (Switzerland) It had been way too long since Andi last visited a barber, or so his friends believed. Taking matters in their own hands, they paid for and picked a brand new style for him. “I didn’t have a choice! No, I’m not nervous, I swear!” he laughs a bit, well, nervously. Andi, don’t worry, it turned out great!
FRESH CUTS FOR ONE AND ALL! Hardly anything makes you feel fresh and self-confident in a matter of minutes – but a stylish new haircut does. A snip, a little lotion, a quick comb, and you’re looking sharp as ever. If that sounds good to you, take a seat at the Wella Hairsalon by the Marketplace and treat yourself to one of their especially designed haircuts. You deserve to be your most beautiful self! As one of the leading entities in haircare, Wella and the Angels of Beauty guarantee you’ll go from having just another coupe to outshining the likes of Beyoncé in no time. They’ll not only perform miracles with scissors, but if desired, leave out the cutting and work their craft with just fingers and products. So come on in, sit back, relax, and let the Angels take you to hair heaven.
Holly Johnson (32), San Diego (USA) Today is a day for comfortable clothes for Holly. But that doesn’t mean one can go without some make-up. “The pajamas may not be the most charming, but hey, at least my face is pretty now! Who said you can’t be beautiful in PJs?” That’s exactly right Holly!
A MACNIFICENT LOOK Looking good isn’t a vanity thing. Looking good equals feeling good. And feeling good makes life so much more enjoyable. In order to make you shine even brighter, M.A.C is hosting a make-up parlor at the DreamVille Marketplace. Choose the style that suites you out of the Look Book full of looks that were crafted just for this occasion. M.A.C handpicked only the top make-up artists from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, and flew them in just for Tomorrowland. Once they’re done with you, be sure to print out a picture at the Sharingbox. With that picture, belgium you can get a free make-up service at any M.A.C store in Belgium whenever you desire. From the elegant to the free-spirited outrageous, the Angels of Beauty know exactly how to bring your inner grace to the surface.
Jolyn Hoppertz (21), Helmis (Belgium) Jolyn’s not a girl for half measures. If she goes in, she goes in all the way. Hair and make-up: after the Angels had their way with her, amicorum there surelyspectaculum was an extra pep in the step of Jolyn strolling around DreamVille.

RECYCLE CLUB Be kind to Mother Nature and join the Recycle Club! Together with the People of Tomorrow, they want to get as many waste materials sorted as possible, so that everything can be recycled. With the Recycle Club, recycling becomes fun and easy. On Thursday, the Recycle Team distributed Recycle Kits to all of DreamVille’s happy campers, and you can get one at the Recycle Clubhouse if you haven’t received one. These kits contain everything you need to sort and get your waste recycled. Recycle Points can be found all over DreamVille. Here, you can sort Paper & Cardboard; Plastic bottles, Metal cans, Drink cartons (PMD); and General Waste. The Recycle Team will help you with any questions you have about recycling. Since you’re now up and about anyway, you should definitely check out the Recycle Clubhouse between the Marketplace and the red Magnificent Greens district. Your recycling efforts will be rewarded with 3D-printed amulets there, and you stand a chance of receiving wonderful prices. At the festival site of Tomorrowland, the FloweRbins have been equipped with brand new sorting guidelines to maximise recycling possibilities. There are separate bins for cold drink cups (Empty Cups Only); food trays, food waste and cutlery (Compost); Plastic bottles, Metal cans and Drink cartons (PMD) and General Waste. Did you know that…. Recycling a six-pack of beercans saves enough energy to drive a car for 8km (5 miles)?
Did you know that…. Tents are hand-made items, and are made of so many parts and materials that they cannot be recycled when left behind?
CAMP 2 CAMP Camp 2 Camp is an initiative created by Love Tomorrow and Reuse-shop Ecoso. Great amounts of camping gear are left behind at festivals every year, and it’s time to stop that practice. The principal message to the People of Tomorrow is to take home the gear that you brought to DreamVille. However, if you are unable to do so, Camp 2 Camp is a way to give left-behind gear a new destination, a first step towards closing the loop. Not only will the gear be cleaned, repaired and used again; Ecoso’s shops will also create social employment in the process. To find out more, keep your eye out for tomorrow’s TML Today!

Belgium is known for some very exclusive export products. Chocolates, Flemish fries, Tomorrowland and most importantly: beer! This country is home to some of the best beers in the world, and a majority of Belgians named Jupiler as their favourite in a recent poll. For this year’s Tomorrowland, the Jupiler Brewery has become a complete part of the festival’s atmosphere. Don’t forget to take a picture with your best (or new!) friend in the photo booth, just to make sure you won’t forget this educational trip into a rich history of beer culture.
BELGIUM IS…
BEER!
While you’re at the Brewery, there’s nothing like cooling down from the summer heat with a special edition Jupiler Tomorrowland bottle. The bottles are available in regular stores, some of Belgium’s best bars and of course in the Brewery itself. Each bottle contains a code that gives you a shot at a duo-ticket for this year’s Tomorrowland. Sounds useless, since you are already here, but how about getting in next weekend too? Exactly, grab yourself a cold one and we might see you again in a week! Yesterday’s winners: Sarah Piek, Malon van Drees, Jamaine Biri, Jeffrey Kruithof, Gloria Stefani, Tim Ruttkowski, Jennifer Walzer, Chris Lorenzo, Mirjam Hoogwater, Anouk Meis, Marielle van Avertum, Martijn van Vliet, Jesse Springveld, Jaime Sandero
LET THE SUN SHINE! You’ve probably noticed: today is going to be a rather hot day. Luckily, TML by Tomorrowland has got your back, no matter the weather. Stop by one of the Official TML by Tomorrowland Boutiques for a T-shirt or an airy tanktop; there’s a wide selection available, all designed to be cool and comfortable. Of course, if you bare your shoulders, you have to shield them from the sun, too. At the Markets scattered across the festival grounds, you will find much-needed sunscreen for sale. These places also carry Official TML by Tomorrowland caps that will keep your head shielded from the sun as you explore the Holy Grounds today. To protect your eyes even better and complete your summer look, the Boutiques offer the brand new Tomorrowland x Komono amicorum spectaculum Sunglasses. Time to go out there and enjoy the beautiful weather with your new TML by Tomorrowland pieces!
STORE LOCATIONS TML by Tomorrowland Boutiques, which carry the full fashion collection, are located at the Marketplace in DreamVille, at the DreamVille entrance on the Festival, behind the Mainstage and by the central info point. You can find Markets, which carry small and practical items, at many locations; refer to your map to find the nearest one.
A FLAG FOR TOMORROW
Apart from the fashion collection, the Boutiques carry another truly unique item: the Official Tomorrowland Flag. With it, you can wrap yourself in Love, Peace and Unity. For every flag, Tomorrowland donates €5.00 to the Love Tomorrow Foundation, Tomorrowland’s very own charity foundation. They are building the first ‘Love Tomorrow Music & Arts School’ in Sekha, Nepal, in the heart of the Nepalese mountains. Buy it, fly it high, wrap it around your shoulders and take it home proudly, all in the knowledge that you contributed to a good cause.

Afrojack decided to pay a visit to the Gathering while he was here to record the 300th edition of his ‘Jacked’ radio show, working at a special studio built on the Tomorrowland festival grounds. amicorum spectaculum After he and MC Ambush finished this anniversary show, part of the series broadcast weekly on more than 100 radio stations worldwide, the dance giant and his companion
took the stage at the Gathering. This anniversary weekend is a special one for Afrojack, as he has his own Jacked stage on Saturday where he’ll be accompanied by Bassjackers, The Jillionaire, Craig David, Ravitez, and others.

Kunt Toennevold Stakkeland, Stian Haukeland Fonnes, Mats Myklebust and Kim Vegard Pedersen form a group of Norwegian friends who take their ‘national history and traditions’ seriously. Very seriously: “A long time ago – way before the Vikings were heard of or even existed – Norway was inhabited by Indians. The Indians started far beyond the northern part of Norway and we are just trying to keep up the ancient traditions of our home country. We perform the Norwegian art of ‘Just don’t care’. We see it like this: it’s just us against the rest of the world, and if you don’t like it, come to Norway and we’ll make you like it. You got to give it all, just give it all. Enjoy the moment, enjoy the music and just don’t give a damn and do whatever the f*ck you want this weekend.” Their ritual dance and passionate singing along to the ancient dance music in the background leaves us wondering if this was really an act… or were they serious? We might search for them again to get to the bottom of this. In any case, the only limit is your own imagination.
Scotty, Kyle, Ben, and Jess look like a group that knows their way around a festival like Tomorrowland. Good preparation and practice are key to making the best life-long memories at the Amicorum Spectaculum, so let’s see what these performers do to stay sharp. “Where to start?! At first we had the idea to start slowly, you know, downtown in Brussels taking it easy. Truth is, we pre-partied really hard. The night obviously included a couple of drinks, so that happened. Such preparations, combined with a little rest in the bus drive here, are just perfect to hit the ground running. We checked in to our really spectacular Dream Lodge and then went to have a look around the campsite. What we’ve seen now is already breath-taking, so we can’t wait to see the rest of Tomorrowland. It will be hard to see everything in just a weekend with so many good stages, but we will try our best.” At first impression they might seem calm and decent, but their inner dance magician is closer to the surface than it seems.
Sometimes, just being you can be a performance in and of itself. While walking around The Gathering, our reporters spotted two girls who were literally dancing like nobody was watching. They obviously caught the eye and made it impossible not to look that direction with a big smile on your face. Christina and Alodia (Nunilodjs as they call themselves) explain their secret: “Why we look so beautiful, you ask? Because we are Spanish, of course! We dress like this every single day, you can see that right? Not because life is one big party – we just like to enjoy life and dress whatever way like we feel like dressing.” Not everybody is capable of living their life the way they want – it requires confidence and a certain attitude that allows you to be free. “We’re just like that. We are very excited for this weekend, looking forward to partying a lot, dancing till we drop, listening to good music all weekend, and just amicorum meeting a lotspectaculum of cool people with a drink in our hand.”

TASTES OF THE WORLD PUTTING THE ‘EAT’ IN BEAT Something for your mind, your body and your tummy: this is Tastes of the World, your window to the very best food coming from all over the world. From Belgian fries by Swa & Marieke to Sergio Herman’s Secret Resto somewhere inside the Mainstage, here’s to the saying that a Belgian’s love goes through his stomach. The proof is in the pudding: when looking at this dazzling line-up of chefs, restaurants, food stands and other sorts of haute cuisine.
Just like in the past, Tomorrowland has again gathered a big bunch of culinary restaurants, areas and experiences all over the festival grounds as well as DreamVille. The Tomorrowland Restaurant has become an actual establishment having hosted worldrenowed chefs like Wout Bru, Viki Geunes and Seppe Nobels over the years. This year the knives are passed to Hans van Wolde from the Beluga restaurant in Maastricht.
amicorum spectaculum
Another festival tradition is the Steak House, led by the bold butchers of De Laet & Van Haver. The best way to enjoy Belgian’s culinary highlight - the infamous, dauntless Belgian fries - is by pairing it with a nice dryaged juicy steak and some racy mayonnaise. For the third time in a row you can add a little surf to your turf when dropping by the Sea Food restaurant of De Oesterput. This well-known restaurant will serve food that’s right off the hook: mussels, lobsters, and a seafood platter that’ll make you splatter.
Moving forward, the restaurant that perhaps captures the Tomorrowland vibe at its best is B-EAT. If you look very closely, you’ll find both ‘eat’ and ‘beat’ hidden somewhere in there, and that’s exactly what this is. A Tomorrowland DJ will provide the beats, while right next to him, one of the chefs will be cooking the… eats. For the first time this year, the B-EAT line-up will not remain a secret; on page 26, you can find it in full. In order to discover just how well food and music mix, you’ll have to return for Weekend 2, though – the restaurant is fully booked. On to another classic: one of Tomorrowland’s regular customers is none other than chef Sergio Herman. Sergio has been cooking at Tomorrowland since 2012. This year he’ll once again open up his Secret Resto located somewhere inside the Mainstage. Just like in the past, the revenue of Tomorrowland’s Secret Resto

will go to the Love Tomorrow Foundation. They busy themselves establishing the Love Tomorrow Music & Arts School in Nepal, among other projects. Want seconds? There’s always room for a little more, isn’t there? Well, you’ve got it. Hold your breath: there’s the GreenWay’s Love Tomorrow kebab (a 100% vegetarian and Belgian innovation), Willy Nacho’s Tastes of the World Special Nacho, River Kwai’s Thai cuisine, Bahn Mi’s Vietnamese foodtruck, Moroccan wraps, Italian pasta, lasagna and cannelloni, British Fish & Chips, and many more kinds of food - pretty much the very best from all over the world, and then some. But of course, Tomorrowland prides itself in also highlighting Belgium’s finest, so wet your lips and sharpen your knives for Callebaut’s Chocolate Bar, where they’ll have Belgian chocolate on draft by means of mixology. Trying out some Belgian Beers is best done at the Beers & Bites Café, where you can also enjoy some cheese pairing provided by cheese masters Van Tricht. Or if you really, really want to taste Belgium, you’d have to go vintage with Swa & Marieke’s Belgian fries. Not only the DJs will be doing the mixing this weekend, so make sure to check out as many of the food stands and restaurants as you can!
Tastes of the World unites the People of Tomorrow with a love for great food. It’s a unique discovery of various flavours from around the world, based on high-quality and pure ingredients.
YOUR TICKETS TO TASTES OF THE WORLD “Make each day your masterpiece” is the advice given by one of the young chefs of the Tastes of the World Restaurant. That, and “you’re never too young to learn.” This astonishing orangerie, located at the footsteps of the One World Bridge, will be hosted by Visit Flanders’ Jong Keukengeweld chefs. It stands for a refreshingly worldly cuisine brought to you this weekend by three thoroughly passionate chefs. The trio that’s set to cook you into oblivion will be none other than Tom Van Lyssebettens of Cochon De Luxe, Broes Tavernier of De Vijf Seizoenen and Nils Proost of Petit Cuistot. Sound good? You have a chance of receiving a free dinner at the Tastes of The World restaurant today! All you have to do is e-mail a picture of you and your breakfast to today@tomorrowland.com and you might just get that Tastes of The World voucher. It will give access to the Tastes of the World restaurant today at 14:45 – you will receive a welcome drink, some appetizers and a Tastes of the World meal!

SURPRISE YOUR LOVED ONES! When the People of Tomorrow meander around the green fields of Tomorrowland, we all tend to forget the outside world. The world of your loved ones: your friends, family and any other person you feel closely related to. They might not expect you to think about them while having the party of your life, so it would be nice to surprise them, right?
Let’s do it! You can send a postcard to your folks back home using Hallmark’s postcard service. All People of Tomorrow can send a card to their relatives completely free of charge! The stand carries some beautiful Tomorrowland designs, but you’re also free to use the best picture you took this weekend to create your own design at: https://nl.hallmark.be/kaarten/tomorrowland/ Close to the Cage Stage (#7) on the road to the famous ‘One World’ bridge you’ll find a cute little post office with very friendly postmen (and -women) waiting to bring your special message home. If you prefer to send your own picture instead of the regular Tomorrowland designs, just use the QR code to the right. Enter action code ‘TOMORROWLAND’ and send your postcard in just a few minutes!
BECOMING
AMARE
IMAGINARY IBIZA
Ever wondered what it would be like to fly through the sky? To feel the sound of the Amare aircraft beating on your chest? Take ‘The Loop’, the enormous Ferris wheel by Brussels Airlines, for a ride and you will know. Before going into the wheel itself, you will be welcomed by ‘360° Amare’. Within this enormous 360° video installation, you’ll be immersed in the world as Tomorrowland’s steel bird sees it.
LEAF by Aperol Spritz is a characteristic gem on the Tomorrowland grounds, with a unique new twist this year. At LEAF, you will experience an intricately composed imaginary trip to Ibiza. Enjoy the freshest beats at the waterside with an aperitif by your side, get on your feet and dance for a bit, or recharge your batteries in one of the five lounge corners designed to do so.
It’s not just the Ibiza vibe that LEAF brings to Tomorrowland, though. Take a minute to customize your own PETJE, sunglasses, or even your own clothes with summery imprints, inspiring quotes or any other design you can come up with yourself. Whatever it is you would like to wear, the artists of Studio Bam Bam from Ghent will do their best to make your dreams come true. While waiting for that, order yourself an ice-cold Aperol Spritz pitcher (these hold four servings!) and they’ll throw in a bowl of free bites as a salty twist to your refreshing drink.
amicorum spectaculum Check out today’s line-up to find out what artists will serve you some relaxing beats at LEAF, and see you on the waterside!
Perhaps, though, you’re more of a flying type yourself – in which case The Loop itself will soon help you up into the sky. No less than 58 metres into it, in fact. With 40 gondolas, two of which are have facilities for disabled access, there is a spot on the wheel for everyone. Last, but certainly not least, 360° Amare and The Loop can be visited free of charge. Get on over there for the most spectacular view of Tomorrowland possible!
ROYAL
COMPANY 23
Tomorrowland always has very special guests, since each and every one of its visitors are equally remarkable and unique. But that doesn’t make us any less proud to announce the following: King Filip and Queen Mathilde of Belgium will be visiting Tomorrowland today – just to inspect this yearly invasion of love belgium and happiness in their country.

FOCUS ON THE MUSIC
What’s the most everpresent element of the greatest show on Earth? That’s right – music. From the tentative first sounds of the day at a deephouse stage to the thunderous roar of thousands singing along by the Mainstage, there is never a quiet moment at Tomorrowland. On the following pages, you can learn all there is to know about the noise that drew you to this place. You’ll find artist interviews, biographies of acts that you don’t want to miss, and the full timetable for all stages. Read on, and enjoy the music!
SUPER YOU&ME
DRUMCODE
THE SOUND OF BELGIUM
Whether it’s the Avengers, the Justice League or Tomorrowland’s very own team of volunteers (not all heroes have wings, you know): these days there’s superheroes pretty much everywhere you look. Combining comics with house and dance music, Laidback Luke brought Superman and Daredevil to the dancefloor. At Super You&Me, you can forget about old school superstar DJ culture, and go back to the future with Blasterjaxx, Florian Picasso, Will Sparks and, of course, Laidback Luke himself - all dressed up as superheroes or villains. See you on the dancefloor, in Luke’s brave world of strobe-lit silhouettes and mind-blowing beats. It’s morphing time!
Founded in 1996, Drumcode is known as one of the world’s supreme techno labels and is managed by Swedish techno king Adam Beyer. He’s got a mighty fine allstar team of tasty techno names awaiting you. If you feel your heart trying to leap out of your chest while you’re there, you’ll want to send the thank you note to Joseph Capriati, Pan-Pot and Belgium’s own Amélie Lens. If you want your beats hard, your bass low, and if your body’s aching for a proper beating with pounding, stomping techno music, then Drumcode at the Core Stage is the thrill you’re looking for.
Let’s take it back all the way to when animals could still talk and the dream of Tomorrowland was still a, well, dream. Back to the eighties, when Belgium took electronic music to the next level by fusing acid house and industrial music, topping it off with a pinch of their notorious absurdism. The Sound of Belgium started off as a documentary wherein Belgium’s rich and colorful legacy in electronic music was highlighted, but has since then become a way of showing off the country’s pride of those glorious days, by transforming into one hell of a party concept.

magical music
Well, we hope you guys had a good night’s sleep, because if you’re out to have yourself musically amazed several times today you might just want to pick up the pace a bit on this Magical Friday. We suggest that you start off with Carl Cox’s Daybreak Session on the Mainstage. Then, you can either stay and get yourself worked up by the likes of Eric Prydz, Tiësto and Steve Aoki, or you can go for a stroll over the festival grounds and discover new horizons. Horizons like Drumcode’s techno beats on the Core Stage, featuring Adam Beyer and Pan-Pot, or crack another case of freshly stirredup EDM by Snails and Krewella at the Rose Garden, hosted by Monstercat. Tomorrowland’s homeboy Yves V will invite friends like Regi and Kura during the V-Sessions at the House of Books, and if you’d rather go underground you might want to take a peek at Mazda’s Sound of Tomorrow stage where you’ll be standing two feet away from tomorrow’s headliners. Take your pick, but choose wisely.

LUCAS & STEVE FOCUS ON MAGICAL FRIDAY MAINSTAGE | 15h00 – 16h00 This edition of Tomorrowland will be a dream come true for Lucas and Steve, two of the hottest house producers of the moment. The producer duo, consisting of Lucas de Wert and Steven Janssen, will be playing Tomorrowland’s Mainstage in the first weekend only to continue at the Spinnin’ Records stage during Weekend 2. The young artists are on a roll this festival season, catching the summer vibes with hits like ‘Up Till Dawn’ and ‘These Heights’, which have received international praise and millions of plays. We had a chance to talk to these talents before their highly anticipated performance. “We’re having a crazy summer,” Steve is eager to explain. And that’s no exaggeration, since the duo will be flying to Poland, Romania and the USA in between and around their appearances at Tomorrowland. “While rushing from festival to festival is fun but also hectic, Tomorrowland is something special for us,” Lucas adds. “There’s a certain magic around the stages, incomparable to other festivals. Many other DJs had been telling us for years that this was the place to be, fueling our expectations. And then last year in 2016, it was our first chance to experience it firsthand, playing at the Lost Frequencies stage, resulting in one of the best sets we’ve ever played. This year we will certainly try to surpass that set, playing two weekends in our second year!”
amicorum spectaculum
Lucas & Steve are known for melodic, joyful house tunes with an intensely happy mood; their music is bound to put
a euphoric smile upon the faces of the Mainstage crowd today. The liveliness of their music also spills through in their videos, as we can see in the videoclip for ‘Up Till Dawn’. A certain animal is quite dominantly present. “We love alpacas!” Steven explains, laughing. Lucas: “Yeah, we have a few alpacas just around the corner near our studio. Whenever we have a moment of spare time – which is not quite often, by the way – we go out and visit those fluffy animals. So when we had to submit some ideas for the videoclip it was inevitable that there had to be alpacas in there. But things escalated pretty quickly from there: now everyone on the Internet is talking about them!” A playful attitude is typical for the two friends, although on the serious side of things they share a deep passion for music and an ambition for greatness. “We always set high objectives for ourselves,” Lucas explains. “Playing on the Mainstage of Tomorrowland was our biggest goal so far, and this year we’ll finally achieve it – it’s really like a dream has come true.” “But we’re not there yet,” Steven adds, “although we’ve realised our potential as DJs we still have a lot of ambitions as producers. Our newest objective is to get an international #1 hit. But then again, being here at Tomorrowland, that’s almost more than we could ever have imagined.” Since their career skyrocketed in the last two years, the DJ duo’s lives have changed drastically. “To play next to some of our biggest heroes, like Eric Prydz and Axwell & Ingrosso, it’s amazing,” Lucas tells us. “At first this really scared us... I remember the first time we were
27
supporting Avicii. We couldn’t believe we were standing at the same decks as this legend. But soon, you get used to it. Backstage you get to know each other, since most of the time there’s a really good vibe. You start feeling comfortable, play more often and then suddenly, there are fans waiting for you at the airport. It’s such an honour, but it’s hard to actually believe that someone is crying in happiness when we take a photo with them.” This weekend will have to prove that EDM’s hottest talents deserve their praise, playing in front of thousands of fans gathered around the Mainstage. But Lucas & Steve come well prepared. “Since this is a milestone in our career we’ve been strengthening ourselves for this moment. Every set we’ve played at other festivals this summer we’ve used as an exercise for Tomorrowland. We’ve selected 100 songs to choose from, but what tracks we’ll be playing will be an intuitive choice for us. We know we have a strong repertoire of old and new songs, and even some unreleased tracks ready. Combined with the famous special effects and stage decorations, we’re ready to give you an amazing party.” Just before the guys realise their biggest dream they will perform one last ritual: “Every time we’ve played a stage so far we’ve done a flying chest-bump as we jump into the air. Some DJs light incense before walking up the stairs, but we’re not that superstitious. A good hug is all you need!’’ Want to experience these positive vibes first-hand and see these guys realise their greatest dream on the Mainstage? Be ready to be embraced, lifted up and held tightbelgium by Lucas & Steve!

JORIS VOORN “I’m not a purist. Music needs to touch people’s hearts, not just their brains.”
from the heart to the mainstage Perhaps it’s his background as an architect, perhaps
it’s just his nature and experience – but if there is one thing that Joris Voorn emanates, it’s wellcomposedness. Over twenty years in the game as a DJ, Voorn rose to underground fame with skillfully layered mixtapes, with his knack for playing the right track at the right time, and of course with a slew of wellreceived original productions. This year at Tomorrowland, he will do exactly what he does best at Elrow during Weekend 1, but he’ll also be bringing the underground to the Mainstage in his Weekend 2 Daybreak Session. High time, then, for a conversation with Joris

about music, art, and life.
Joris, let’s dive right into the deep end and talk about the weather for a bit. It’s very nice and sunny out today. So what is your life looking like right now – can you decide to just take the day off and head for the beach? “Today, I certainly can’t! I’m actually in a studio right now. I have to finish my radio show, and later today, I’ll be flying to Italy for a gig. The summer is always a busy season and this week I happen to be particularly booked. But it depends – some days, I do have the possibility of just dropping everything. You have to be able to catch your breath every now and then.” Your radio show is called Spectrum, just like the event hostings that you do all over the world. What’s the story behind this name, and what is Spectrum all about? “I had been planning to do a radio show for years, but I’d never gotten around to it. Radio is simply a lot of work. I decided to really put some effort into it this year, though. At around the same time, I sat down with my team to discuss those club nights and hostings we wanted to organize. I wanted to really be able to curate those nights, to book a wide range of artists, reflecting the wide range of music I normally play in my own sets. So I said something along the lines of, ‘I want to play as wide a spectrum of music as possible’, and there we were! ‘Spectrum’ was born. The word perfectly encompasses what I want to do in my sets, in my radio show, and with my line-ups.” At Tomorrowland, rather than programming your own night, you’ll be playing a Daybreak Session on the Mainstage. The crowd will be rather different from what you’re used to. How will you approach your set? “Actually, I’m going in without too much preparation. I have an enormous library of music, I’ll just see what works and what direction the day takes me. I trust in the crowd’s open-mindedness, and though it won’t be as deep as a club set during those dark winter months, it’ll be a fun experiment. I’m curious to see if the crowd that normally goes to the more ‘underground’ stages will turn up, too. And then I hope there’s sunshine – that’s one thing I can only hope for, haha!”

You also have a slot at Elrow, whose happy-go-lucky glitter aesthetic is not the most obvious match with your serious image. They’re actually going to try to set a new world record for shooting confetti! How do you adapt yourself to such an environment? “I have a long history with Elrow; I think I’ve been involved pretty much since the beginning. It took some getting used to, but we’ve really come together. It’s silly, but they’ve raised the bar in terms of musical quality and I really feel at home with them now, I feel like a part of the family. It’s become a serious event held in a silly way.” How did you start out as a DJ – did you ‘grow up’ as a part of the clubbing scene or did you become a performer right away? “Everything started in the town of Enschede, where I was studying at the time. It was 1996. I had visited a small local club a couple of times and I quickly managed to land a DJ gig. Then, with some luck, bookings started flowing in pretty quickly. I think you could count the number of events that I went to as a regular visitor on two hands. Soon, I had the privilege of being backstage for pretty much anything I would want to see. But I do know the ‘dancefloor’ side of the story – 10 or so years ago, I would often stay, party ‘till the end of the night after playing. But now, I get recognized too much, it’s not very relaxing anymore. And besides, I have a family these days! On weekdays, I have to get up at a quarter past 7 to take the kids to school. So it’s quite alright not to stay up all night.” Speaking of growing up, house and techno music have grown quite a bit since you first took the stage. EDM has become so popular it’s hard to put into words. How do you see this music evolving in the future, in terms of popularity as well as artistry? “You see, in the ‘90s, rock and other guitar-driven music was extremely popular. Slowly, throughout the noughties, that emphasis shifted to dance music. Actually, I think high-energy EDM fulfills the same role that Linkin Park and Greenday used to: people just want to throw all of their energy in there. It’s very different from the sort of groove that I try to build. EDM is very popular right now, but that can change easily and such things are hard to predict. What makes electronic interesting from a producer’s perspective is that it is very DIY; you can make pretty much anything with just your little laptop. So just because of that I think whatever the future holds, electronic music will have a large part to play in it. Furthermore, house, techno and EDM are based on the four-to-the-floor beat, which I believe is the most basic rhythm in existence. You can attach whatever you want to it, you can take it slow, you can make it very fast, whatever; it’s always very energetic, the most attractive form of dance music. Artistically, I am all for people pushing boundaries and exploring limits. That doesn’t mean that I feel a connection with everything that’s being done, but it’s great that people are doing it. Again, I strongly believe in the 4/4 rhythm, it almost seems to be part of our DNA. This kind of beat began in the seventies with disco music. And now disco is very popular again! So you see you don’t always need artistic novelty for people to have a good time, but experimentation is very important. As for myself, I’m not a purist, I don’t
belgium
think you should approach dance music too intellectually – but I know others do. James Holden, for instance, in his handful of hits from the ‘00s, was pushing boundaries and doing everything that could be done within the confines of dance. He was one of the last great innovators. Afterwards, he went further down his own road, and I can’t really identify with that music anymore. So you have all these things going on, and let me be clear: it’s fantastic that there are still DJs that play very good music, whether it’s 40 years old or completely new and novel. Ultimately, the first place where music should touch people is the heart, not the brain.” As an artist, we’ve heard you do more than just make and play music. You’ve also trained as an architect. And what about those photos that you use as release covers? “Right – most of those are my own, actually. I use a Sony α7S II mirrorless system camera, which I mostly have with me when travelling. I actually started out with photography before I began DJ’ing! And I did study architecture and interior architecture, but I did so at an art academy. What you learn there most of all is to develop personally, to develop your own general aesthetic, so to speak. I worked as an architect for about two years before I went into music fulltime. Right now, I don’t really use those architecture skills anymore, but of course, developing a strong aesthetic has helped me all the more.”
“I believe the 4/4 beat is the most basic rhythm – it’s the most attractive form of dance music.”
Perhaps that personal aesthetic of yours is a good one to round off with. Your most recent release, ‘I Ran the Zoo’, came out in both a digital and an analog version. What’s the story there? “It’s basically the same track done in two completely different ways and with completely different tools. One was done entirely ‘in the box’, the other one on analog machines only, though I did add a few effects on the computer. I’d made the digital version first. Then I coincidentally bought a new synth and decided to try if I could replicate some bits and pieces. It sounded good, so I basically just hit ‘record’ and reproduced the whole track. It’s just the way I used to do it; it has this ‘live’ energy because there’s no automation, you can actually hear my fingers turning the knobs. Though I have been doing everything digitally lately, I really want to go back to that live workflow more often.” Curious about Joris’ curator’s mind, his wide sonic Spectrum, and the way he strings all those interests together? This weekend, you can catch him at Elrow, closing out the stage from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.!

technasia
Tulip Stage | Toolroom LIVE 20h00 - 21h30 Technasia, also known under his mortal name Charles Siegling, is taking over the Toolroom Live area tonight. Born in Paris, Charles studied Asian cinema in Hong Kong. That’s where he first became fascinated with bringing the East and the West together, with music as his medium. His sets are not only full of energy, but also intelligent and sophisticated. No wonder he’s been a favorite on Ibiza for many years. His recent collaboration with Green Velvet ‘Suga’ became the longest-running overall #1 track in Beatport history. Technasia has been around since forever, and no doubt will keep enchanting crowds far into the future.
marshmello Mainstage | 20h00 - 21h00
Who is marshmello? Nobody knows for sure... marshmello always wears a custom helmet on stage, concealing his identity and making the mystery about the person behind the mask even bigger. In 2016 he finally ‘revealed his identity’ on stage in front of a new crowd, but the mask revealed Dutch trance legend Tiësto… who had regularly been seen and photographed with marshmello in the past. Even though speculations have been there ever since the marshmello’s beginning, his identity remains unknown until today. But the question is – do you really need to know who is actually wearing it? Well, our advice would be not to care about just who created those unique marshmello sounds. The only thing that matters is the music. And in accordance with that belief, the mysterious figure with the famous white mask has given away all of his tracks for free since the beginning. He himself refers to his tunes as “deep, fluffy, hybrid melodic sexy trap house.” If that’s not enough to turn on your inner raver, what is? And even if you’re not familiar with marshmello, come play with this delicious piece of candy and his amicorumatspectaculum mellogang the Mainstage today. Because if this weekend is about anything, it’s about exploring new music and making friends in the process.

hook n sling
seven lions
The Australian Anthony Maniscalco has steadily been building the repertoire of his alter ego Hook N Sling over the last decade. Ever since his worldwide breakthrough ‘Take You Higher’ and follow-up hit ‘Reason’, Hook N Sling has cemented himself firmly amongst the likes of Kaskade, Axwell, Nervo and Sam Feldt. Praised for being an excellent composer, Anthony brings music that cuts straight through the many tunes being released nowadays. They’re catchy and they have a sincere emotional charge. Come discover this magician from Down Under for yourself today at the My House stage, situated at the Garden of Madness.
You’ll find a wide array of sounds at the Monstercat stage this weekend. Seven Lions most definitely is an act worth paying close attention to. Jeff Montalvo is redefining what it means to be a musician in the world of electronica. Jeff ’s work can be thought of in themes, for instance. “It makes sense to create something that’s digitally artistic with real cohesion, as opposed to tossing out singles [..] I wanted to start making the music more thematic, interesting, and part of something larger.” A free spirit like that is hard belgium to fit into words, so go hear for yourself and let Seven Lions carry you away.
