Symphonic Friends, I believe that yesterday, you’ve already felt it: the joy that we find in harmony. All of Tomorrowland is one great composition. You – the notes, the DJs on stage – the rhythm, we performers – the conductors that bind everything together.

It’s probably still singing ‘round in those pretty little heads of yours, yesterday’s music. Believe me when I say that I have done all I could to make it enjoyable for everyone. I invited all of my musical friends; the techno troupes of Drumcode & Toolroom, the melodic madmen of Monstercat, the energetic ensemble of the Mainstage. I even saw you dance as I played my own symphonies there! I believe that all of Tomorrowland’s musicians, each in their own merry way, brings out that which makes music the most powerful force in the world: harmony. If only there’s music to bind us, harmoniously, we all become friends. Is not harmony the loveliest thing in the world? A well-struck chord, numerous instruments singing in unison? But harmony, as I perhaps already hinted, goes beyond music itself. We see it here, at Tomorrowland, all around us. People harmonize, differences melt away. All sorts of artists, spectators from all walks of life, the wondrous creatures of Tomorrow; they all wind up working together like a symphony’s separate parts. What I ask of you, then, is to listen carefully. Listen to the music itself, of course, but also listen to the whole of this Amicorum Spectaculum; listen to the way all comes together, to the sound of different kinds of people meeting, the subtle harmonics of joyful crowds – listen to the sound that smiles are making all around you. Once you are attuned to it, I promise, your life will be all the richer. And you will be a part – a part of the symphony of Tomorrow!

Melodically Yours,

ERNESTO – Composer & Conductor

GOOD MORNING

DREAMVILLE IS WAKING UP The atmosphere on DreamVille is simply out of this world. Actually, just walking around the campsite feels like you’re on another planet, the happiness is so overwhelming. Beautiful boys and girls are

Thomas, Patrick, Julia, Alex (Austria): “We had such a huge party yesterday, we went a little too hard to be honest, so we decided to just sit here and read the newspaper. We’re really overwhelmed with the programme for this weekend!”

smiling at each other, washing each other’s backs and feeling good while the warm sun charges their slightly hungover bodies with a new boost of energy. There’s no better way to start a Tomorrowland day than this: on a campsite surrounded by people who all came here for the same shared goal. Which, of course, is to party all the way into Tomorrow. But before we do that, here’s a peek at how some of you experienced life on DreamVille.

Lauren, Caitlin, Alice, Bex (London): “Most of us are from Australia, but we live in London. We travelled here to see if the whole Tomorrowland experience is really as crazy as they say and until now we are not disappointed, haha.”

Cassy & Marion (France): “The second Tomorrowland for us, and it’s just the perfect party. We are getting prepared to make sure we get the best out of this day. Choose some good clothes, sleep the least you possibly can, that kind of belgium stuff.”

Juan (Colombia): “I’ve been planning to come here for seven years now, so I’m excited, to say the least. I can’t even describe how it feels to be here! I made my personal line-up and have around 30 minutes per DJ, so a tight schedule.”

AN INTERNATIONAL GET-TOGETHER

Each year, Tomorrowland selects an ambassador for each country present on the Holy Grounds. These ambassadors all get a spot on their very own campsite and a flag representing their home countries. Today, they were surprised with a yummy international breakfast. Lucile has barely made it out of her tent and it still trying to open her eyes properly when she receives her little gift bag. As soon as she notices the croissant, she cheers up. She laughs: "We're French, after all!” Jonathan's group, sitting a couple of tents away from Lucile's, is Frenchspeaking too. "We all met here, even though we arrived from different countries – Reunion Island, Mauritius and French Polynesia. It's such an amazing experience here and this breakfast makes it even better. It really feels like we're VIPs." Coming from Mozambique, on the other hand, is Máriam. She's travelling with Natacha and together, they had an amazing time last night. "We know this was only the warm-up, but for us it was already extremely impressive. This

morning, we went to brush our teeth and when we returned, we were surprised with this breakfast. Quelle surprise! It already feels like the best day ever."

Massimo, Alicia, Gabriel (Brussels): “We are from Brussels, but today we come from Tomorrowland. We are here with a group of around ten friends to meet new people, enjoy amicorum spectaculum the party and forget about all the stress in life.”

Ashley & Madison (USA): “We’ve already been to a few festivals before, but last night was unlike anything we’ve seen before. This is next-level, we can’t wait to get into Tomorrowland itself and see artists like marshmello and Martin Solveig.”

Tara & Cathy (Ireland): “In Ireland we’ve visited basically every festival possible, but there are not so many festivals programming DJs. Tomorrowland is like heaven for us, but we need to refresh now and get going fast. Bye!”

LAIDBACK KUNG FU

Laidback Luke is not only a Master behind the decks, but he’s also a crowned Master of Kung Fu. Really: he is in fact a World Champion of Kung Fu, and he taught some DreamVille denizens how to start the day in style! A group of people gathers on the big field at the DreamVille Chillout. Some are a little doubtful, others are full of confidence. Nobody is as calm and collected as Laidback Luke – what’s in a name – himself. No surprise there, though; for the world champion, this is daily routine. “Whether I’m on tour or whether I am jetlagged, I perform Kung Fu anyways. It is one of the best ways to ease your mind and it gives you energy to last throughout the whole day.” Benoit, one of the participants, is in need of that energy. “I normally play badminton, so I expect quite the workout this morning. I follow Luke’s vlogs, so I knew he’s a Kung Fu master. I’m quite curious to find out what I can learn from him this morning.” Vanessa, on the other hand, is trying her best to maintain her composure. “It’s quite difficult but relaxing at the same time,” she says. For anyone at home in need of a quick Kung Fu pick-meup, Luke has the perfect exercise. “Clench your fists and channel all your energy into them. Curl your arms and amicorum spectaculum keep them like that until you have no more power left. Exhale and release. Repeat this three times and you’re ready for the day. Good luck!”

FROM ON HIGH Why not experience Tomorrowland from the sky? Don’t let a little thing like not having a helicopter stop you; The Loop by Brussels Airlines is ready to get you where you need to go! Been wondering why that enormous Ferris wheel behind the Freedom stage is called the Loop? Granted, it’s loop shaped, but it’s also the name of Brussels Airlines loyalty program, in which enough ‘loops’ grant you a free flight!

HUMMMM!

Now, when flying in The Loop this weekend, once you’re at the top, snap a picture of the view. Get your best selfie face out and post your images to Instagram with #brusselsairlinesloop. By the time you’ve finished hanging out in the clouds, glossy prints of your pictures will be waiting at the exit! It’s a little keepsake to remember what you got ‘up’ to at Tomorrowland.

Feeling a bit bummed out for whatever reason? Check out the singing bowl therapy session at the Chillout area on DreamVille between 10 and 11 a.m., on both Saturday and Sunday.

RECHARGE & GET GOING Three days of dancing and flirting is as exciting as it is exhausting. You’ll need a moment to recharge from time to time, and so does your phone! JBL offers just that, with 6 stands on DreamVille (Marketplace and the District Houses) and one on the festival grounds. You’ll find their stand at the main information point.

You can buy a charger at JBL for 16 Pearls, 10 of which are only a deposit. Though you’re not going to want to return these beauties, as they’re in full-on Tomorrowland style! You can swap your charger for a fully charged one at any time, so you and your phone will always be ready to hit the dancefloor again instantly.

MISSING: CURVACIOUS

FIGURINE

The magic of Tomorrowland attracts an endless variety of esoteric creatures. No doubt you’ve already seen the more colourful man-sized species jumping around on and off the stages, roaming the grounds in search of people to make happy. The smaller ones belong to the tribe of Art for Thought statues. But they tend to be a little shy, and they’ve run away! Can you find the specific one outlined beneath, in real life or hidden in this paper’s pages? Take a creative selfie with it and send it to today@tomorrowland.com and find yourself in tomorrow’s newspaper.

THE GARDEN OF EDEN If you’re wondering about the immense food court behind the Mainstage, be sure to drop by The Garden of Eden by LIDL. The juice bar is the place to be for your daily dose of vitamins. Pick your juice, pick your melon, apple, kiwi or strawberry, and within mere seconds the friendly fruit fairies cut, mix, and blend your desired concoction right before your very eyes. And if you'd like an extra boost, pour a shot of Absolut vodka in there. ‘Cause even being healthy can be a party if you want it to be! Forgot to do groceries this amicorum morning due tospectaculum last night’s party? No worries. Place your order at The Garden of Eden and have it ready for take-away at LIDL’s DreamVille shop, just at the time you desire. Hey, it's party time, not doing-chores-time, right?

YEARS OF

HARDCORE

THE HARDEST DANCE MUSIC RETURNS TO BELGIUM

Hardcore, also known as ‘gabber’, is the hardest dance music genre known to man: heavy-hitting kicks, a high tempo, and dark atmospheres make up its pallette. It started out in the early ‘90s with Thunderdome as its founding father.

In 1997 ID&T organised the first edition of Global Hardcore Nation, which (just like its ‘big brother’ Thunderdome) was an instant success. The event is known as one of the key nights for hardcore.

In 2012, ID&T announced the final edition of Thunderdome, again titled The Final Exam. For five years Thunderdome laid dormant, but the die-hard fans never backed down. Later this year, a new edition will be held – it sold out in half an hour!

Sometime in the early ‘90s, a group of friends from a small town in the Netherlands got the idea to organise an event. Nothing crazy; they just liked to party and would love to organise a night themselves. The result is quite obvious: The Final Exam started a gabber epidemic that took the Netherlands by storm, and would soon infect the whole world with its hardcore sound. Before long, The Final Exam turned into Thunderdome and the group of friends behind it became known as ID&T. In 1997, ID&T organised the Belgian version of Thunderdome: Global Hardcore Nation in Sportpaleis Antwerp. The venue was completely packed with people witnessing one of the biggest moments in hardcore history. The gabber community was already pretty big in Belgium at the time, but with Global Hardcore Nation, a new era started for hardcore music both in Belgium and the rest of the world. It was a completely new phenomenon, and without any doubt, one of the most influential Thunderdome-related events to date. Marc Acardipane (PCP) recorded the video clip ‘I Like It Loud’ for his alias Marshall Masters, a track that would later turn out to be one of the biggest hits ever in hardcore, and in house music in general. DJ Promo had his big breakthrough during the same night: he didn’t perform, but he was there and heard the biggest hardcore DJs play his new track ‘Shut Up’ at least five times, which caught ID&T’s attention.

“Global Hardcore Nation was a completely new phenomenon” amicorum spectaculum

Global Hardcore Nation was not the only landmark institution for Belgian hardcore fans, though. DJ Rob had been one of the most loyal ambassadors of hardcore in Belgium for a long time, working his infamous residence in Club X. Rob also remembers Global Hardcore Nation to be an event that changed history. Rob and the other two artists, all with totally different backgrounds, came together at Tomorrowland this weekend to bring an ode to the dedicated hardcore movement in Belgium. The last edition of Global Hardcore nation was held in 1998, also at the Sportpaleis Antwerp; yesterday, at the Wind Stage, the Nation was reborn. We talked to Rob, Promo and Marc Acardipane to find out why and how Global Hardcore Nation became such an important part of hardcore history. True fans know that hardcore music went through a rough time after the two editions of Global Hardcore Nation, and the event stayed off the radar for nineteen years. But a new time has come, a renaissance of hardcore; a time to find out what was responsible for making hard dance music what it is today.

Did you miss Global Hardcore Nation’s comeback? Today the Bonsai stage will have some hard beats to make things up, with Bountyhunter, Yves de Ruyter, Bonsai All Stars and many other DJs fulfilling your needs. As it happens, Bonsai is also celebrating its 25th anniversary! What’s more, on Sunday F.Nøize, Noize Suppressor, Mad Dog, and many others will push up the tempo even more on the Footworxx stage.

Our conversation is kicked off by Promo, in reverse chronological order. “I mainly contributed to the second part of Thunderdome’s career. Francois – who is responsible for Thunderdome nowadays – really has the same vision as I do on the concept of Thunderdome. Both of us never gave up on it. This gives us a certain click and it’s the reason we have been thinking it through a lot together. The Die Hard Days already showed the scene that Thunderdome’s comeback was an absolute necessity. I’m really happy to come back full throttle in 2017, to fill the gap Thunderdome left in 2012.”

In 1991, Marc Acardipane released We Have Arrived under his alias Mescalinum United. This track changed dance music forever, since it is considered to be the first hardcore track ever produced. Marc went on to have a long and prosperous hardcore career.

Still, it is not Thunderdome but Global Hardcore Nation which represents hardcore at Tomorrowland. “People might argue that it should be Thunderdome on Tomorrowland instead of Global Hardcore Nation, but I don’t agree. Global Hardcore Nation is the most important event in Belgium’s hardcore history. This is where it all started for Belgium, so GHN should absolutely be here on behalf of Thunderdome,” Sebastian adds before Rob jumps in. “It was new for Belgium,” Rob adds, “and big. It attracted the regular hardcore crowd, but also the Belgian trance community. There were just a lot of different people really, just like we have at Tomorrowland nowadays. It was where the heyday of hardcore started, without any doubt. GHN made a lot of money and money is needed to grow fast. The money was put back into ID&T’s events and well – we can see the results.”

DJ Rob had a major impact on the Belgian hardcore scene with his residence in Club X, and was always there for the Belgian gabbers with his productions and gigs nationwide.

Marc totally agrees, and he feels a strong bond with his neighbouring country. “Belgium really influenced me, starting with a club called Boccaccio. We went there and got in contact with a lot of artists that were already dominating the Belgian scene. Later on, Global Hardcore Nation came around and this really had a huge impact on me as an artist. I wasn’t really booked for that event, but I did do a live act there, which included the recording of the video for ‘I Like It Loud’. It turned out to be one of my biggest productions ever and it got really big in Belgium a couple of weeks later.”

Promo was largely responsible for saving hardcore from its downfall in the early 2000s with his groundbreaking ‘Promo-File’ series. This series caused huge changes in amicorum spectaculum hardcore music: it ‘grew up’ and has lasted ever since.

Every artist who was a part of that night in 1997 will agree that hardcore was in its best shape then. Promo: “For me it’s extra special. Until that day in 1997 I was still a beginning artist. I was standing in the artist’s

11

lounge that night, being intimidated by the DJs around me who were pretty much all my heroes – but then my new track Shut Up got played. And again, and again, until I heard it like five or six times. This was the first time ID&T invited me, the first time I heard my own music at a big event and the absolute starting point of my professional career as an artist.” The success and impact of Global Hardcore Nation came out of nowhere and it wasn’t really planned to be so huge. Rob isn’t surprised that it turned out the way it did, though: “Back in the days, Belgium had a lot of influences from the Netherlands, mainly in Sportpaleis Antwerp and Club X where I played for four years. You really see that they needed this; their own ‘retro hardcore’ had much more trance influences than the Dutch hardcore. The cooperation between both countries has contributed to both our scenes.” That underlines why it’s so good that Global Hardcore Nation and Thunderdome are back, Rob states: “The impact of Thunderdome and Global Hardcore Nation returning today is that the new guys will also become curious about their roots, you know. The new ‘soldiers’ really need to hear what created the foundation for the music they listen to now.” Marc would like to add that Thunderdome’s ‘daughter’ isn’t any less important than the parent: “For me, Global Hardcore Nation is the better name for Thunderdome. It’s also the name of the German daughter of Thunderdome, which I like as well.” Even though Thunderdome added an absolute harder styles legend to the line-up, there is more to discover in Belgium. Marc: “The quality of Belgium’s dance music is oftentimes forgotten. Recently I went through my records to clean up, and again I found so many good Belgian releases.” Rob agrees: “Dutch and German artists are really big in the harder styles, but Belgium has more artists that got successful with trance and crossed over into the Netherlands, too. Let’s not forget Bonsai Records by the way! The Belgians have enough to be proud of. It’s cool to see how we all went different directions, and now we’re still getting back together on such a huge event like this, for such an important moment in dance history.”

DREAMVILLE RADIO

SURFING THE AIRWAVES WHERE & WHEN Tune in on: 87.6 FM Every morning from 10:00 to 14:00 Every night from 00:00 to 02:00

Why not wake up and get out of your tent with a nice and easy pack of beats to get you right into the groove? And why not pair those beats with some fresh news from the DreamVille grounds or stories by yourselves, the People of Tomorrow? There is a team of radio-loving youngsters lined up for you at DreamVille Radio to do just that. Their sole mission is to provide you with the best tracks, tunes and dance classics as well as the latest updates on local and worldwide news, peppered with various reports on the festival and its amazing visitors. Day and night! Since 2011 DreamVille Radio has become an essential part of the DreamVille experience. It started out as a small-scaled production after Tomorrowland asked Studio Brussel to establish a radio station on the campsite. Other festivals like Lowlands in Holland and Glastonbury in the UK already had their own radio stations back then, so Tomorrowland couldn’t fall behind. But they sure made up for lost time with DreamVille Radio which, for Studio Brussel, was the perfect opportunity to give its young talents a chance. They did a great job, too: over the past six years, DV Radio has grown out to become the perfect ‘compagnon de route’ guiding the citizens of DreamVille through their wake-up rituals and putting them to bed again at night.

MOST REQUESTED ARTISTS 1. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike 2. Carl Cox 3. Duke Dumont

It’s fair to say these aspiring radio talents are thrown to the wolves immediately, though. In a ‘real’ studio you’re pretty ‘safe’ and in control of everything. You have the time to prepare things, to have a little pre-talk with your interviewees – but none of that applies here. “You never know what is going to happen,” hosts Jill and Robbe say, “but that’s exactly what makes this so exciting.” Every day they host live DJ sets from midnight until 2 a.m. but still, there’s far more adventurous things happening in and around the DreamVille Radio studio. “For instance, yesterday we had a couple of guys dropping their pants and pressing their bare naked butts to the window of our studio. That was, uhm, special. Just like the guys with the Borat costumes!” Jill says. Robbe: “There was also a pregnant woman who just absolutely wanted to take a picture together with us, another first for us, haha!” So what does their daily schedule look like? “Well, we’re here from Thursday morning until Monday at noon, so we’re here for the same long run as the campers, right from the build-up until the very last tent has been removed from the campsite. Our broadcast stops at 2 a.m., then we walk to the crew camping, try to calm down a bit and shake off all the excitement of that day. We go to sleep and wake back up at 8 in the morning for breakfast and the editorial meeting. We get behind the mic everyday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and then again between 12 p.m. and 2 a.m. Those are some long hours, but we don’t feel that tired. It’s our first time at Tomorrowland so we’re fueled by suspense and adrenaline. And besides, all these passers-by and the smiles on their faces are just what you need to scare off any hint of fatigue.” With a team of four hosts and a total of nine people working behind the screens to get everything into the airwaves, it looks like these radio youngsters are stepping up to the big league this weekend. So whether you have something to say, a special story about Tomorrowland, an experience you’d like to share with your fellow People of Tomorrow or just a song request, drop by DreamVille Radio!

DANCE 97.8 FM, DUBAI

BIGCITYBEATS + BIGFM, GERMANY

Danny Cee and the team from Dance 97.8 FM from Dubaï are here at Tomorrowland only for Weekend 1: “We’re flying back home for the second weekend, because we’ll be going live from the Unite party in Dubai. MAINSTAGE MARVELS There’s nothing like entering the Holy Grounds that are the Tomorrowland festival site for the first time. This year we walk ardently towards the crown of the festival, the Mainstage. In awe we look up towards the enormous carnival tents, lighthouses and carrousels. But nothing could have prepared us for the richness of the elements we find upon closer inspection. Throughout the years this enormous stage has transcended the concept of a mere podium for DJs, and this year is no exception. By day, you can explore all the corners for acts and performances; at night, the stage is lit up with the most insane special effects. Stop and step back for a moment to discover the secrets in and around this piece of art. We already made a start for you, and inspected the stage closely by day and by night.

NIGHT When the sun has disappeared far behind the horizon and Tiësto is manning the decks we return. The whole valley in front of the Mainstage fills up with People of Tomorrow, for as far as the eye can see. These folks gather here after a day of roaming around the festival in search of a major spectacle, and they’re bound to find exactly what they’re looking for.

DAY

The artwork of the stage, the mechanisms and machinations are set into full motion. Over the gates, smoke-filled bubbles appear, shot into the space above the visitors. The People of Tomorrow look up in awe. Some chase the bubbles, trying to pop them, making them release smoke around their euphoric faces. LED and lasers are unleashed over the crowd. The jack-in-a-box clown high up on the right-hand corner of the stage laughs down on the crowd uncannily and a lighthouse reaches up mysteriously into the air. The words Theatre Macabre above the tunnel suddenly make sense.

Early on during the day, when we walk up towards the Mainstage on the right side, we walk through a tunnel full of laughing mirrors. Disoriented, we go on, and on the corner of the stage we meet the lovely Vanessa at the Candy&Popcorn stand. She takes great care in preparing sugary treats in order for the music lovers to keep their energy levels high. Her special kind of corn, naturally called the Butterfly Corn, makes for the best kind of sweet and caramelized popcorn. It tastes magical, so find her and try them for yourself!

When Tiësto plays the last track of his set, fountains surge up around his decks, and out of the blue some black-and-red figures rise high up in the air, balancing on thin poles in the middle of the crowd. Moments later the beat drops, fireworks burst out of the top of the stage, and the People of Tomorrow are covered in a sea of light and confetti. “This is Tomorrow,” we read right above the cheering DJ. And this imaginative stage is exactly what will stay in our dreams of today, belgium and bring us straight into our fantasies of the night… so we can dream and party on until Tomorrow!

Walking on to the other side of the stage we find Vanessa’s sister. The lovely Astrid lives in the corner of the Mainstage where spins enormous clouds of cotton candy. When asked why one would need to try one, she contemplates for a second, then amicorum spectaculum answers wisely: “Simply because they taste amazing!” With our face stuffed with all this sugary goodness, we look out onto the stage for one more time before we retreat for the day.

FROM MOJITO TO MARGERITA IN STATISTICS, THE FAVORITE BEVERAGE OF THE PEOPLE OF TOMORROW IS BEER. BUT APART FROM THIS FESTIVAL CLASSIC THERE’S A WAY WIDER SPECTRUM OF DRINKS AVAILABLE TO QUENCH YOUR THIRST IN AMORE CLASSY MANNER. ALL OVER THE FESTIVAL SITE, COCKTAIL BARS ARE TO BE FOUND, AND AT THESE PLACES YOU CAN ENJOY A SELECTION OF UNIQUE DRINKS. We start off with a Havana Club Mojito. “That’s a fine amount of rum, which is a good thing, actually. The hints of mint and lemon take me back to the beaches of Cancun in Mexico!”

SOME OF THEM WERE EVEN SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR TOMORROWLAND. NEAR THE BAR, WE MEET BEAUTIFUL YANA (19) FROM BEVEREN, WHO IS HAPPY TO GO ALONG WITH US AND HAVE SOME COCKTAILS.

The second drink is a Margarita, which is a quite a heavy concoction. “Ay, this one is too strong for me. I didn’t expect that tequila to hit so hard. It’s maybe a good one to drink earlier, to get hyped up for the party.”

Mojito recipe Two parts Havana Club 3 Años Two spoons of sugar Dash of soda water Some syrup Lime juice Handful of ice Leaf of mint Half a slice of lime To whip up the best possible Mojito, pour the sugar and the syrup into a glass with the lime slices and squish everything together. Half-fill the glass with ice, and pour in the Havana Club. Stir everything together. Then, add a dash of soda water, and garnish it with a leaf of mint and a slice of lime on the glass. Finish the amicorum cocktailspectaculum by adding a straw, and enjoy!

Next up is the Fever Tree Ginger Ale + Gin. “I actually prefer the sweet ginger ale above the bitter tonic and I enjoy the grapefruit. It has some earthy tones which remind me of caves and forests.”

21

We round things off with the Tomorrowland Special. “Wow, this is definitely one of my favourites. belgium Fresh and soothing. I love the blue flowers, is that lavender? And if you’re hungry, you can even eat the cucumber!”

Next to the Wind Stage you’ll find find a Citroen C2 old timer from the ‘20s. Inside sits Remy, a Belgian ice-cream lover. “Whenever you need to cool down from all the techno and hardcore, you can find us here to get a refreshment!”

EXPLORING THE TASTES OF TOMORROW Where do the People of Tomorrow settle down, hungry from the long hours of madness in front of the stages? Spread across the festival site you will find a wide spectrum of kitchens, as varied and high-quality as the musical lineup. These stands, trucks and tents offer you gateways to the world through taste. You can travel as far as the Thai River Kwai or as close as the Flemish chocolatiers. In the map below we’ll help you explore these territories and offer you a compass to navigate the overwhelming amount of delicacies.

moroccan wraps

We find Mo Aoulad concentrated above his grill. “This is the Moroccan kitchen, spicy and tasteful! No other country uses the same ingredients, and we wrap our chicken sausages in our freshly baked wraps with a chermoula sauce of coriander.”

For party people with an exotic taste Bart de Pooter has two meat skewers to choose from: a freshening Italian variant with parmesan cheese and basil, or a Mexican one with jalapeños. Get yourself spiced up for the dancefloor!

pasta by pepe and marcus

The pasta of Pepe and Marcus is an essential part of Tomorrowland’s food line-up. “This year we even received a second stand for Lasagna and Cannelloni on the other side of the festival grounds, although for us it will always be ‘quality over quantity’!”

FOOD MARKET Many of Tomorrowland’s tastes are concentrated on the big court behind the Mainstage: the Food Market. We asked some of the stand owners there to tell us why they are the best cooks!

4

bad ape

“At Bad Ape, you can get the one and only King Coconut, the best in the world! We’re the first German cooks on Tomorrowland, bringing you Vietnamese food, prepared by chefs who work in Michelin star restaurants,” Mo tells us. He is not just a chef, but also a DJ!

blend brothers

Kamiel, one of the Blend brothers, also happens to be a DJ and he’ll perform with a violinist at the B-EAT restaurant on Sunday. “We travel the world, famous for our blends: music, food and great drinks. Come to us for an amazing blended ‘kroket’ made from the pork from next door!”

2

duroc d’olives

“This pork is unique, since the pigs are fed only with olive branches and olive oil. That’s why it has such a pure taste,” Maxime tells us. “And our chef not only just won the Belgian BBQ awards, but is also a Dutch and European BBQ champion, bound to win the World Cup this year!”

kaasmakerij

“Apart from our Belgian cheese, we also make bagels with Italian cheeses, like gorgonzala with a mostarda of strawberry.” If you’re crazy about cheese, like Kaj Veraert of the Kaasmakerij, this is the place to be!

5

bubble waffles

“This is a hype from Hong Kong which we adapted especially for an international audience,” Seija, the daughter of the founder of Bubble Waffles, explains enthusiastically. For Tomorrowland, the women created the Rainbow Paradise, a waffle with ice cream in all the colours of the rainbow!

acai bowls If you need some vitamins, antioxidants or healthy acids, you need an acai bowl made by Steffen of Holy Berry. “Without a doubt, this is the most healthy dish on the whole of Tomorrowland. Vegan, organic and extremely energizing!”

korean chicken

“We actually have real Korean chefs in our kitchen,” Katoo shows us while we see a laughing face appear from thebelgium kitchen, handing out a steaming plate. “The unique combination of sauces creates an explosion of taste!”

Choose from a wide variety of looks for both guys and girls, and you’ll be treated with only the best products Sebastian has to offer. Close your eyes. They have a great natural look that doesn’t require much touching up. That’s what sets me apart, to push the limits in beauty. Like I’m doing with Sebastian this weekend.” Then she’s off to film again. Keep an eye on Sebastian’s online channels and look up Evelina on Instagram orYouTube, where she shares a ton of useful tips and tricks that might come in handy.

LAUNDRY Turning your underwear inside out does not mean it’s clean again, no matter what you tell yourself. And festivals, as you all know, can get dirty. There might be some muddy slip ‘n slide adventures downhill, or a spilled drink due to dancing a little wildly. That ketchup stain not coming off your freshly bought Tomorrowland shirt? No worries, Miele is here to save the day! RECYCLE CLUB

CAMP 2 CAMP

Have you discovered the Recycle Clubhouse yet? It really is worth visiting! The lovely hosts will help you sort your waste for recycling and, if you get lucky, reward you for doing so with cool prizes. Upon arriving in DreamVille, you received a stamp card together with your Recycle Kit. Every time you bring a full and correctly sorted PMD bag to the Clubhouse, you receive a stamp on your card. After getting three stamps, you will have a chance to obtain one of the magnificent prizes. These include vouchers for one of the lovely restaurants on the festival site as well as unique accessories, made out of old or damaged Tomorrowland banners and shower curtains. On top of that, the one who has handed in the most full stamp cards during the festival weekend will become our Recycle Club Hero. He or she will become a golden member, earning them a Full Madness DreamVille Package for next year’s edition. For the golden member, it won’t be necessary to bring camping gear, because that will be provided by Camp 2 Camp.

After last year’s edition of Tomorrowland, Love Tomorrow and re-use shop Ecoso worked together for the first time to collect the camping gear left behind on DreamVille. All the gear that was collected was cleaned up and sold at Ecoso. After a few days, the tents were already sold out. A big success, especially since all the proceeds go towards social employment at the reuse shop. This year, the People of Tomorrow are encouraged to hand any camping gear they can’t take home in at the Re-Use Drop-Off Point at the District Houses. These will be open on Sunday and Monday. By handing in your gear, the stuff you would have left behind will not get wasted, but find a new destination – and help people who have difficulties finding a job in the process.

3D PRINT STUDIO Don’t believe in trying your luck for prizes? Check out the 3D-print shop next to to the Recycle Clubhouse. Here you can exchange your full stamp card for a very cool amulet. It’s not just a nice gadget to wear; you can also use it as a bottle opener when you’re back home. At the 3D Print Studio, you can discover how plastic bottles can be recycled. The bottles are converted into 3D-printing material. This can then be used to print any item; even furniture could be made this way! Come have a look, and see how the plastic is shredded and then printed into beautiful Love Tomorrow amulets. Together we go for zero waste!

FOCUS ON THE MUSIC

STMPD RECORDS

DIYNAMIC

CRYSTAL EVENTS

STMPD Records is the brainchild of the young legend, Martin Garrix. ‘Artists First. Always’ is the motto of what Garrix is aiming to make ‘a community where great music will always be supported’. The label kicked off with the release of ‘Now That I’ve Found You’, a collab between Garrix and John & Michel. Today the big boss is bringing a fine selection of artists to The Organ of Harmony stage. It’s a mix between veterans like Don Diablo and Steve Angello and youngsters such as CMC$ and Justin Mylo. And of course, Garrix himself is closing out the night.

Talking about labels with mottos, ‘Do It Yourself ’ is the proud creed of Solomuns Diynamic label. So much so that even the label’s name begins with ‘DIY’, in case you hadn’t noticed yet. It’s one of those brands that have found the precious balance between taking the world by storm and maintaining that underground vibe. Nothing’s too much for them, from Diynamic festivals in Amsterdam and Berlin to residencies on Ibiza. Today you can enjoy the crème de la crème of the label’s roster, including Adriatique, Karmon, H.O.S.H., and Kollektiv Turmstrasse, at the Garden of Madness stage.

There’s hardly anything a close group of friends can’t accomplish. Look at some of the biggest organizations and artists in the scene nowadays! With their passion and ‘yes we can’ attitude, the people behind Crystal Events are destined for greatness. They set themselves apart by a very personal approach, closing the gap between crowd and musician in more ways than just arranging bookings. Today they’ll be taking over the infamous and immensely popular Rave Cave. Hold on to your undergarments, it’s about to get down and dirty with Shredding Sounds, Soulcity and many more!

KOLLEKTIV TURMSTRASSE FOCUS ON INCREDIBLE SATURDAY GARDEN OF MADNESS | DIYNAMIC 22h00 – 23h00 In an era where it sometimes seems the show’s more important than the actual sound, it’s not easy to find artists that resist the appeal of glitter and glamour in order to preserve their own authenticity. Technology makes it easy to pump out tracks for the masses, but how does one stay true to their original interpretation of electronic music – if that requires taking the hard way instead of the paved road? One duo that has found the perfect balance between appealing to the crowd and staying true to their own ways is Kollektiv Turmstrasse. Armed with Ableton Live and over a thousands clips for each set, they have an enormous range of sounds to play with. Yet they have also mastered the art of playing analogue instruments, and found a way to combine these two seemingly opposite skills perfectly. The German duo are one of those gems that put the soul into techno, the feeling into the beats. Meet Christian and Nico. It must’ve been fate for Christian and Nico to meet, considering Christian’s fascination with vinyl and Nico’s affinity for drum computers and synths. ‘Back then’, the amicorum scene of musicspectaculum fanatics in their part of Germany wasn’t all that big, either – all the more reason to get together.

Starting out at a nearby club, the Gerberei, the two had been goofing around with music a long time before they became Kollektiv Turmstrasse. At first inspired by the Detroit sound in techno, the duo has evolved into their own entity, widely known for their brilliant, melodic and meditative live performances. “What sets us apart? We are here to bring the music, and don’t really care about putting on a big show. To be authentic is the focus. That’s how we see ourselves adding to a major event like Tomorrowland, as a counterforce to the big ‘super-duper-noise-cannon’ DJs. It’s our mission to show the kids that electronic music is more than a break every 8 beats, that there’s techno music without vocals. On the off chance that it sounds a bit arrogant, we consider it our responsibility to bring the roots of techno and house to the people here.” Spreading the gospel is what Nico and Christian enjoy. To the lesser known parts of South America, for instance, under the umbrella of the Diynamic events. “It may have been quite a while ago, but the 10 year anniversary visit to South America is still a very fond memory for us. In Germany, you see, you can go out and see the best artists around pretty much every weekend. The people in South America look forward to one particular event, one particular night. They are so incredibly excited once

you’re finally there to play for them. We believe that it is vital to reach out to areas and communities that don’t have access to the music we consider normal over here.” Diynamic – that’s the infamous label spearheaded by Solomun. Kollektiv Turmstrasse have been under Diynamic’s wings for years, and they feel thoroughly at home. “One thing that binds all of us there is that we tend not to take ourselves too seriously. As for describing our musical connection, that’s something people should figure out for themselves. To try and pin down a certain word for the Diynamic vibe, that’s up to everyone’s own interpretation. Today, the sole thing we’d say that connects all of us on stage is the fun we have and our love for the music. We have to say, Solomun stands out for obvious reasons!” You can catch Kollektiv Turmstrasse at the Diynamic stage today, so be there or be whatever shape you’d like to be. One last word of advice from the men themselves: “We wish all the People of Tomorrow lots of fun. Take care of and respect one another. Enjoy, explore and have a wonderful time!”

otto knows Refune – 19h30 – 20h30

Otto Knows. Knows what exactly? Knows how to make you boogie, that’s for sure. Raised in the underground clubs of Stockholm, Otto Jettman enjoys the full support of the legendary members of the Swedish House Mafia nowadays. Otto made his breakthrough single ‘Million Voices’ in the back of the studio while none other than Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso were cooking up festival anthem ‘Calling’. There must be something in the water in Sweden – it’s like they’re growing talented musicians by the dozens. Come to know Otto (no pun intended) today at the Refune/ Freedom stage.

the belleville three I Love Techno – 20h00 – 23h00

I Love Techno is bringing a very, very special collaboration between three of the founding fathers of Detroit techno today to the Wind Stage. The Belleville Three are Kevin Saunderson, Juan Atkins and Derrick May. Each on his own is perfectly capable of melting the loins of the techno-minded already, so just imagine them combining all their power and knowledge into one act! This is techno history in the making, folks. The words ‘living legends’ have never been more true. From humble beginning in the suburbs of Detroit, ‘The Innovator’, ‘The Initiator’ and ‘The Elevator’ morphed techno into a raw, industrial-like being that reflected the city of Detroit in the late ‘80s. The Motor City, affected by crime and economic collapse proved to be the ideal place for a more dark and harsh interpretation of the music we hold so dear nowadays. And after some 30 years of the name being somewhat in disuse, The Belleville Three has recently taken real shape again. There honestly aren’t enough words to comprehend the importance of what you’ll witness today. We repeat, Atkins, May & Saunderson onamicorum one stage.spectaculum Drop everything you’re doing. Go to the luscious Wind Stage. And dance. Dance like you’ve never danced before.

surfing leons

salvatore ganacci Refune – 21h30 – 22h30

Forma.T & Hungry Music – 23h30 – 01h00

Everything happens for a reason. When an injury ended his blossoming career as the next Ibrahimovic on the soccer pitch, Salvatore from Sweden chose to focus on his musical aspirations. And boy, did that turn out well for both himself and crowds worldwide. It has been stated that these days, the big boys play it safe. Not Salvatore, who has made it his personal mission to take ‘big-room’ to a whole new level. No wonder Skrillex and Major Lazer are amongst his biggest fans. Salvatore is playing at the Refune/Freedom stage, alongside his Swedish friends. This is going to be one for the books!

Closing out the Forma.T & Hungry Music stage today is Surfing Leons. Mathieu Fonsy (aka Matmat) is not just a DJ, but an experienced all-round entrepreneur in Belgian nightlife. He runs the famous Forma.T parties, bringing some of the biggest names to Belgium (think of Justice, Rusko, and Diplo, to name but a few). Next to that he’s in charge of Dour Festival, and today he’s the big boss at the Forma.T & Hungry Music stage. But belgium at the end of the day, despite all the business ventures, there’s only one thing that drives Mathieu, and that’s the music he’ll be sharing with you today.

radio ultra modern

Hi guys, good to see you again this year! We, The Retronettes, are so excited to be back at the Radio Ultra Modern stage here at Tomorrowland. Every year is a real family experience again for us. Between the lot of them, the artists are a real team, and we have been here entertaining you beautiful people for 6 years now. And the crew is so careful! They take care of us and the artists like a mum would do: they throw us cold water when it’s too hot, put wet towels in the fridge, feed us sandwiches with cheese when we need them. They even massage our backs when things threaten to get too much! And when the weekend’s over, we all shed a little tear together. Stage, sound, lights, we all see each other once a year and it just feels like coming home. Coming to you! And how good it was to see you back again yesterday. We fell in love with that one guy that joins us every day for a wave and a dance battle. He starts with some moves from on top of the bridge and the whole audience follows. And so do we, of course. He’s amazing. No one knows his name – all we know is that he’s got a lotta muscles and a cool hat, haha! Oh, and what about those two lovebirds touching each other in some unholy places in the water just under the bridge? They think nobody can see them - and they’d be right if it weren’t for us! Make sure to drop by again today because the infamous Boxy brothers will join us on stage at 3 p.m. for a fooddance battle. Be there or be square! See you tomorrow, darlings, The Retronettes

Future Sound of Egypt – 18h00 – 19h00

– 18h00 – 19h00

What started as a fun get-together in the Miami penthouse of R&B legend Craig David has quickly become a worldwide phenomenon. With TS5 (‘Tower Suite 5’), David combines his love for singing, rhythm & blues, garage, and DJ’ing into one spectacular show. Get your smooth operator on during this fun-filled, slightly nostalgic, throwback-to-the-zeros hour at the Jacked stage today. Ain’t no, pardon us for this one, ‘walking away’ from Craig’s new band! It’s a little bit of everything, with a whole lotta Craig thrown into the mix. All it need now, is you!

Living legend Mike Dierickx returns to his home country from the US of A, to bring y’all an exquisite dose of euphoric trance ‘with a techy edge’. Mike is the creative genius behind a ton of tunes, most famously ‘Universal Nation’ and ‘Strange World’, true trance anthems. Mike has collaborated with none other than Sinead O’Connor, Moby, Armin van Buuren, and The Bloodhound Gang. He released critically acclaimed albums such as ‘From Beyond’ and ‘World Citizen’. With a successful career spanning several decades, Mike’s far from done yet, as he continues to be a major name and influence in trance.

jamie jones

adriatique

Jamie Jones can be regarded a true pioneer in the new era of house music. From his cross-genre band ‘Hot Natured’ to his ‘Paradise’ series of events, Jamie is setting the standard for all the young and eager producers out there. And as if these initiatives weren’t enough, Jamie also runs his ‘Hot Creations’ label next to them. One busy dude for sure! ‘Hot Creations’ has been credited for paving the way to a more melodic, warmer approach to techno music. A lot of artists nowadays claim genres don’t apply to them, but Jamie is one of those few of them that puts his money where his mouth is.

Closing out the Diynamic stage tonight is Adriatique. Adrian and Adrian met back in 2008, in their hometown of Zürich. One Adrian honed his skills in Detroit-style techno, whereas the other one developed a taste for the more European and melodic tunes. One is blonde, the other one sports a dark coupe. One prefers the studio, the other one loves to shine on stage. Throw them together and you’ve got a sound that’s both energetic and meditative. The duo is known for building a constant, vibrantbelgium and wellthought-out set that both enchants and engulfs the dance floor.
