YOU HEART IS AN OPEN BOOK! P E O P L E O F T O M O R ROW,
What was that? What happened, friends? What did you see as the Book of Wisdom unleashed the unfathomable depths of its knowledge upon you? What events unfolded yesterday, as you forayed into the history of Tomorrow again? You met your peers, you danced; you fluttered from stage to stage, you smiled; you went bumbling into the night, tracing the tales of the Book with your steps. Along the way, you called stories into existence. Before long, there’ll be a million of them, millions even, keeping track of every interaction, every meeting, every friend made over this weekend. They’ll all be kept in the
library known to you as the Mainstage. Don’t be dizzied by the magnitude of this Wisdom, though: instead, contribute. Take your last day in these lands of letters as an opportunity to trump everything that was revealed to you, and make sure that this year’s collected story is the greatest yet. Roam the grounds from end to end, pause to enjoy a culinary treat, touch one another, take your partner by the hand and show them a place they’ve never seen before. By your collective effort, all of you will be as one, friends, and write a legend the likes of which the world has never seen.

A VOICE FROM THE PAST
’m sure I heard it right. Where did that come from? A fleeting sound, crowds cheering for something spectacular; an age-old, appealing chorus. There it is again – hard to pinpoint, but I believe it’s coming from above. Luckily, we keep a ladder handy to reach the upper shelves. As I climb the rungs past row upon row of ancient, amply decorated tomes, I am reminded of my childhood. I used to visit the circus then, and the crowd would roar at the performers just like this. The sound grows louder as I reach
the top, and I know I’m in the right place. Instinctively, my hand is guided towards a thick and heavy codex. The voice… I hear a distant voice now. Is there someone behind me? As I look away, I see no one. Yet I can feel a breath – not a hard breath, but more of a quiet exhalation. It’s as if this presence is elated for me to be drawn to the book. Instead of frightening me, it gives me a certain kind of calmness. But what am I getting myself into? I wipe away the dust from the cover, and the voice suddenly explodes into a thunderous roar. “Go on, friend!” it bellows. “Let me introduce you to the Amicorum Spectaculum!” Having regained my grip on the ladder, I start to turn the pages, and my eyes fall upon a statuesque
painting of an acrobat. He starts to climb up on a trapeze. Am I dreaming that this portrait is moving? “Welcome,” the voice once again booms, “to the greatest show on Earth. When we unite, the whole world comes down to watch!” Suddenly, my mind overflows with memories: I remember now! The roaming band of entertainers, the best performers in the world, come together for a once-in-a-lifetime extravaganza honouring Tomorrow… If there ever was a story about the awesome power of togetherness and unity, this was it. May the Amicorum Spectaculum live on forever!

MORNINGS COME ALIVE AT
DREAMVILLE As the sun rises and eyes all around DreamVille open up to see a new day come alight, dreams are revisited and memories shared, knowing that another day will be upon us to create even more. What will today bring? Will eyes be locked with a new love? Will the gods of music bless the People of Tomorrow with yet another magical sensation, like it did the day before? Mornings come alive on the camping grounds with routines to replenish the body’s reserves and prepare the soul for the charms that are to come. We asked these gorgeous creatures how they started their wickedly wonderful morning.
Max (26) and Vass (26) from New Zealand prefer to start the day will a stroll: “Going for a walk, getting groceries and a lovely cup of coffee, is the best way to start the day and re-fuel for fun times ahead.”
‘Take care of your body’ is one of the wisdoms Dominic (21) and Nicole (22) from Germany live by. “We wake up, drink lots of water and then head to the bakery for some fresh bread. It leaves us fully refreshed and ready for another day of amazement.”

Thinking ahead has blessed Jasmine (22) from Germany with a chilled-out morning routine. “I shower before I go to bed, so I don’t have to join the queue in the morning.”

FAIRYTALES Dien (24) and Gitte (24) from Belgium couldn’t believe their luck when Tomorrowland’s Morning Fairies appeared into their lives on Thursday. Fairies all around DreamVille have been sparkling gifts onto the People of Tomorrow, thanking them for 15 years of magic. These two were given the gift of a good night’s sleep in a gorgeous new home. “We couldn’t believe it. The Fairies set up a gorgeous big pink TML tent for us, decorated it, and they even gave us these mattresses and sleeping bags. We’re thrilled about this upgrade! Thank you, Tomorrowland, and happy 15th birthday!”
Kicking things off early are Flex (26) and Max (28) from Bavaria, Germany. “A game of beer pong and protein-filled burgers are the main ingredients for a perfect morning!”

Babo (24) and Lilla (23) from Hungary are bouncing with energy. “We paid a quick visit to the gym and joined in on a class. It got our blood pumping and gave us a healthy shot of adrenaline for the day ahead!”
THE TRUNK OF WISDOM: THE RETURN This group of friends from Germany simply have to make sure their precious gem is noticed. “Come over here,” they shout. “We have to show you something!” Approaching their decorated tent, an impressive treasure chest comes into view in the middle of their residence. “We’re playing cards on it now, but it’s actually a trunk that we can take everywhere,” they say. “We made this in Germany and brought it all the way here. It’s our Trunk of Wisdom. But it’s also a coffee table. Or perhaps we should say, a beer table,” the guys laughingly add as they place another deck of cards on the surface.
Whilst enjoying their first beers of the day, Maurice and Fabrice (both 23) from Bavaria carefully map out the day ahead. “We’ve preselected what we want to see in the app and are now using the paper to plan our route properly.”

According to Oliver (25) and Mason (26) from England, it’s all about getting the right fuel into your body. “We start the morning by eating lots of fruit and granola. What really keeps us Brits running is a nice cup of tea, of course, but today we kick off with a smoothie!”

CELEBRATING FRIENDSHIP What to do when you’re getting married? That’s right: step out of your single life with a big bang, is what Alex was thinking. So, together with his twin brother Maikel and twenty-eight party buddies, they pitched their tents on DreamVille’s Friendship Garden. All styled and body-painted, they celebrated his bachelor party and made wild memories to last a lifetime.
All well and good, but before the adventure began, Alex’s future wife felt less enthusiastic about the prospect of her man going away for a long weekend filled with love and unity. Alex’s twin brother’s negotiation skills were brought into the game to gain his soon-to-be sister in law’s trust. No need to be sad for anyone involved: she loosened up soon enough, and after some consideration, she said yes.
“I celebrated my bachelor party with thirty of my best friends”
For those who came with a group of ten friends and felt like camping, DreamVille offered the Friendship Garden Package. This included a guaranteed spot for ten people at a dedicated part of DreamVille, with a Tomorrowland shelter provided pre-pitched. A great way to make sure you can spend your DreamVille stay together!
Then there was the situation of the twin brother himself, Maikel. Just four months ago, his girlfriend gave birth to a baby. Whether he would come or not would be a last-minute decision, depending upon how well mother and child would be doing. As it turned out, Maikel became the father of a baby whose behaviour was entirely by the Book of Wisdom. No late-night crying and no outrageous early morning wake-up calls – so Maikel’s bags were packed and carried into a car, which was stuffed to the rafters soon enough. Prior to their enchanting weekend, Alex and Maikel had spent quite some time on Pinterest. For each day they came up with a theme. Day 1 was Indiana, day 2 became Steampunk, and on day 3 the group painted skulls on their faces to party like the dead on Dia de los Muertos. Coming from all corners of Germany, the brothers and their friends brought some serious gear. Tents, outfits, props, chairs, lots of make-up and body paint, spray cans and air matrasses will easily net you 150 kilograms. The group ended up driving to Belgium with two people per car – but ain’t that worth it for such a grand celebration of friendship? 7

TOMORROW’S SOUNDS One day you’re ‘just’ a DJ working your way up to the top, and the next day you wake up playing at Tomorrowland. That dream became a reality for Empra, a DJ from Bochum in Germany, who won the Pepsi Max Sound of Tomorrow contest, and was granted a slot in the line-up of the Lotus Stage on Saturday. “It’s been so unreal,” Empra says, “I’d already bought a ticket for next weekend, but now I’m playing here. I’ll still be here next week with my friends, but it will be hard to top this experience.” One of the assignments was to remix a track by Fedde le Grand. In an appreciative gesture, Fedde will play Empra’s remix during his set at the Mainstage and has even asked Empra to join him. “Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better, this happens,” he says, still shaking with adrenaline after his own set at the Lotus stage. As for the reason why he won, Empra keeps both feet on the ground, though not without self-knowledge: “I think the music I play is destined to be heard by a broad audience. My music is pretty energetic, futuristic, and flooded with fresh, new sounds.” He’s also noticed how some of his heroes, like Don Diablo, have a deep and meaningful relationship with their audience, and intends to achieve that as well: “I respond to everyone on my Instagram and Facebook, because in my opinion, it’s very important to realize that without the people who enjoy your music you’re nothing. It’s for those people out there that we stand here. I intend to never forget that.” Wise words – it seems the Sound of Tomorrow has brought forth a brand-new rising star.
ALWAYS TIME FOR A SPARKLE
Every once in a while, you should allow yourself to take a step back from the Madness and treat yourself to an ice-cold serving of bubbles. In front of the road to DreamVille, Vallformosa Cava host their Fountain Bar. Here is where you have the opportunity to relax, sipping on a glass of their sparkling liquid gold. The lovely hostesses smile as they top off your drink with fresh raspberries, just to go the extra mile. The bar has a floral vibe to it, with colourful flowers and slight touches of pink. At the counter, we find a beautiful young lady leisurely enjoying a cava. “I chose this drink because it’s light and bubbly; perfect for a day out on the fields,” says Aichner Karin, who is from Italy. “I’m also going to be very honest now,” she giggles. “I am kind of a fitness fanatic, and a good cava has half the calories of a glass of beer. Therefore, it’s always an appropriate time for a sparkle. Oh, and it looks good on social media – not unimportant, either.”

Lola from Big FM instantly gets excited as she recollects sharing the joy of a visit to the Holy Grounds with her listeners. “Giving away trips and flights to Tomorrowland, experiencing how far our listeners would go for the opportunity to be here, that has been mind-blowing. This year we had two girls shaving their head bald, a man locking himself up in a coffin, and many other crazy things have been done. To hear their excitement when we tell them they can join us on the Holy Grounds is indescribably fantastic. Tomorrowland unites us with our audience in a wonderful way, full of love and passion.”

The tales of the Book of Wisdom have crossed many borders. All over the world, the unity of love transcends onto past, present and future People of Tomorrow through television, internet and radio, with many broadcasters having been present at Tomorrowland for years. In China, Tencent observes the honours, whereas Italy is served by RAI 4 and Russia by Capital FM. MTV disperses Tomorrowland’s stories worldwide, and Plug stays close to home in Belgium. Even Virgin Radio of Romania and Switzerland and Dance FM in Dubai broadcast words of wisdom – and these are just a few of the media outlets here this weekend. Of course, the voices sending out our tales have stories of their own to tell as well. Here are some of the other radio presenters’ favourite chapters from the archives of their studios!

Adam K, host of Tomorrowland – One World Radio, is bursting with energy just thinking about all the exciting memories made at Tomorrowland. The DJ lights up talking about his favourite memory, made in his first year on the Holy Grounds. “Singing the Titanic theme tune with Steve Aoki in the studio is definitely my number one. In 2012, he played a remix of that song on the Mainstage and then we sung it on air a little later. It was really special and so much fun!”

DJ Eva de Roo from Studio Brussel lives just a few miles away. “In the early days I used to peek over the fence with my family to see it all, and I’ve even snuck in on occasion! The first time I got to work here with Studio Brussel, we had our studio situated inside the Mainstage. We could feel the bass vibrate through our bodies. Tomorrowland feels like a family, I’ve made so many friends here. Martin Solveig has been a big part of my Tomorrowland experience. We’ve gotten to know each other and he joins us in the studio every year. We’ve even created our own handshake, haha!”
Music is emotion, so when Sam from Dance 97.8 interviewed Loud Luxury about playing on the Mainstage, he felt the love spread live on air. “These are memories worth cherishing. These guys are so excitable, so genuinely appreciative, and they literally jumped with joy talking about their slot on the Mainstage. Seeing this much passion right in front of you… it gives you goosebumps and represents love in its purest form.”

The purple green booth of Radio 538 has been making epic memories since 2015, and a lot has happened in that time. So much, in fact, that DJ Ivo van Breukelen couldn’t possibly pick just one memory. “Filming with Afrojack in his Lamborghini, Axwell and Ingrosso playing a remix of Africa by Toto on the Mainstage and the crowd going wild, arm-wrestling with Steve Aoki... JB from Fun Radio has welcomed countless DJs to his studio, but one memory stands out so bright that he beams with joy just thinking about it. The French go wild for their homegrown DJs, so when Bob Sinclar and Joachim Garraud joined him in the studio, he was thrilled. “That was incredible in and of itself, but to top things off, David Guetta happened to walk by, then stormed into the studio and announced that he had found his French family. What a moment, having the three most cherished French DJs in our studio. An amazing memory I’ll never forget!” 1. Tiësto & KSHMR – ‘Secrets’ 2. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike – ‘Mammoth’ 3. Radio Contact have been at Tomorrowland for six years. Their experience is one big happy memory overall, but when pressed for one thing that was particularly exciting, DJ Michel Tournay is quick to answer. “DJs filled with adrenaline and excitement make the most memorable segments. I remember our first year here. Redfoo from LMFAO was in our studio, literally jumping around and making jokes. His joy was contagious, and I still smile just thinking about it. Tomorrowland brings out the best in people. Everywhere you look there are smiles and excitable faces.” 1. Steve Aoki & Don Diablo – ‘What We Started’ 2. Push – ‘Universal Nation’ 3. A RE BE L TO REME MBE R
More often than not, DJs and producers are obsessed with finding, or creating, their own musical style and market. Few take on the challenge of serving a wide variety of audiences who all visit their own kinds of festivals and clubs, large as well as small. Laidback Luke is among them, Benny Rodrigues aka ROD is another contender, and then there’s Eric Estornel, more commonly known as Maceo Plex. Never wanting to choose a career within a particular strand of dance music, he’s released material under several aliases: jacking, minimalistic, and dry techy stuff as Maetrik, atmospheric, rolling breaks as Mariel Ito, washed-out clicky electronics under his family name Estornel, and a hybrid of credible big room beats as Maceo Plex. Why? Because he wants to write a story worth remembering.
“I select a colour palette, but I don’t decide what I’ll paint beforehand.” Belgium, like Estornel, has many faces when it comes to music, which is one of the reasons he loves playing here so much. With the most famous electronic music festival in the world, small and underground venues and a rich musical history, Belgium is a special place to Estornel. “This country’s music scene is very underrated. The influence of Belgian music on the electronic scene as a whole is enormous. People always mention Germany because of Kraftwerk, and everybody rightfully credits Detroit techno artists such as Juan Atkins, but the amount of pioneering Belgian acts is endless. I get really nerdy when I talk about bands like Front 242 and Telex. One of my favourite small places to play is also here: I totally love the nights the legendary R&S Records put on at Kompass in Ghent.” With Estornel’s multi-faceted musical output come wildly varied DJ sets, and his performances may differ starkly from one another. “I am addicted to unpredictability and to being nervous before and while playing sets,” Estornel admits right after coming off the Mainstage, where he’s just played his Daybreak Session. “I do prepare, of course, but in a rather minimal sort of way. I choose the colour palette I’m going to use, but I don’t decide what I’ll paint beforehand. That would make the job very boring.” His style of preparation, combined with the fact that some fans may expect to hear a particular type of music, makes anxiety an ever-present factor in his working life. 12

Tw o m i d d l e - a g e d , o v e r w e i g h t , football-watching friends used to be my only fans.” “So what do I do about it?” says Estornel. “I drink. There’s no way I will go on stage sober, because that way I won’t feel one with the crowd. I need to feel them, get to their level. Monday to Friday I’m sober, but as soon as the weekend arrives I need to drink. If I hadn’t had an anchor like my wife and my two daughters I don’t know where I would be, I think I’d be lost.” Estornel’s need to get his nerves under control is understandable, as he now holds a residency at Ibiza’s longest-established club Pacha. There, he bravely programs underground artists such as Scuba, Pearson Sound, Radio Slave and DJ Koze. It’s the kind of place where celebrities and others who are not necessarily interested in pure club music request tracks he doesn’t really feel like playing. “I am a bridge between the two worlds of dance music – the gritty sound of the underground on the one hand, and the polished big-room beats of the large festivals and Balearic megaclubs on the other. I am also a rebel, I prefer to take difficult routes. Who remembers crowd-pleasers twenty years down the line? Those who are remembered are The Rolling Stones, The Pixies, Depeche Mode, people who did things their own way and refused to give in. I’d rather be on their side, so I adhere to the same philosophy in my work. I try to be rebellious when I play big stages. Sometimes, I metaphorically tell
everyone to go F themselves, then watch the backlash, and then adapt to the backlash. You can either perfectly adjust and be really boring, and nobody will remember you at the end of the day, or you can be rebellious and everyone will remember you.” In order to stay relevant, Estornel feels he needs to be “a pain in the ass” when dealing with his agent. “Unfortunately, once you start playing the bigger stages, you have to actively look for gigs at the underground places. I have to make an effort to do these sets and they pay very little, but I love them. The great thing about big festivals is that they always pay on time, and all the flights are handled, but if you stop doing the underground shows you run the risk of disappearing, of becoming irrelevant. I enjoy the fact that I have the best of both worlds. I love playing slightly dark, washed-out stuff in the clubs, but I also realise that it’s not the only thing I want. I really appreciate playing places like Tomorrowland, as they remind me of the times when things were very different, when I was standing in the corner of my living room, playing tunes to two of my middle-aged, overweight friends, lazily watching football on the sofa. Except these guys no-one would listen to my sets, they were my audience. Now, who would you rather play to: to my buddies or to thousands of people here in Boom?” 13

ISABEL (25) FROM GERMANY “Live for every moment, laugh every day and love beyond measure. I live by this mantra every day and it has led to marvellous adventures.” Duly noted and added to the compendium of wisdoms, fair lady!
Chapters of Tomorrow Some books just swallow you up, heart and soul. It’s why The Book of Wisdom needed A Return. Not only for it to be devoured once more, but to add even more chapters filled with wise words. The world unites on these Holy Grounds and, so the wisdoms of the world must be collected. From Spain to South Africa and from China to Germany, we recorded some marvelous words when asked what these wonderful creatures wanted to share with the People of Tomorrow.
BRIANA (24) AND CHLOE (23) FROM CHINA Seeing the love spread across the Holy Grounds has emphasised the belief these lovely ladies already held. “The key to happiness is being your purest self. You’re the best version of you. Love the people around you and smile as often as you can.” A simple, yet highly effective wisdom!
CHRISTOPHER (28) AND BLAISE (29) FROM SOUTH AFRICA These wise men from Cape Town have felt the magic and are spreading the word. “Tomorrowland isn’t an event, it’s a life experience. It teaches you that life starts outside of your comfort zone.” Step out and explore the world today!

LETIZIA (30) AND LEANA (30) FROM BELGIUM Love doesn’t require words. “We’ve met so many people from all around the world on these Holy Grounds. Words weren’t always spoken, but joy was always transferred. With smiles, with kindness, and with the knowledge that we’re taking this journey together. We felt the love and it really does unite us all.”
JULIUS (28) AND DINA (25) FROM GERMANY A smile can achieve the unachievable. Spread the love and amazing things will occur. “People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.”
MARIA (25) AND AZUCENA (30) FROM SPAIN When inner peace is achieved, magic happens. “Worrying means you suffer twice. Take a break from whatever is worrying you. Decide that you’ll think about it another time. Take in your surroundings on these Holy Grounds, dance like there’s no tomorrow, and wash away whatever is stopping you from being present, right here, right now.”
ANGELINA (23) AND MARINA (28) FROM GERMANY Love unites, and these gorgeous creatures want to make sure the People of Tomorrow will remember that fact on their life’s journey. “We are all one. Looking around these Holy Grounds, it’s easy to see this. There’s no place for hate when there’s love. And right here, right now, an explosion of love can be felt with every step you take.”.
ZAIN (40) AND YUSHAVIA (29) FROM SOUTH AFRICA These souls shone so bright that the question simply had to be asked… What’s the wisdom that they hold, the story that should be told? “We ask the People of Tomorrow to seize the day. Not just today, but every day. People can be themselves here. Let’s keep that spirit and take it with us when we cross these borders.”
SPENCEY (28) AND AARON (32) FROM ENGLAND The streets of London are blessed with these souls and the wisdoms they hold. How fortunate that they’ve travelled here to insert a marvellous chapter into our ever-growing Book of Wisdom. “Things that are good are easy to achieve. Things that are bad are easy to endure.”

An experience served on a platter
Up on the hill in front of the Mainstage, you can discover the Tastes of the World at the Aperto restaurant. Here, chef Thijs Meliefste and his team give their guests an appetizing experience: once they are seated at the restaurant, they look out over the audience with an amazing view of those magnanimous books and the Madness unfolding in front of them. Once settled in, visitors can expect a tree of snacks (literally!), a selection of several luxurious main courses and, of course, a jaw-dropping dessert. That’s quite a number of culinary surprises, all coming from one chef in one kitchen. But hey, you know what they say: if you can’t stand the heat…

TOMORROWLAND TODAY
Eight shifts of 125 couverts a day: it goes without saying that the heat in this kitchen isn’t only coming from the stove. In the seating area, that heat is not to be felt, however. The restaurant is designed in a magnificent art nouveau style, with plants and touches of wood everywhere. It’s a green oasis deep inside the madness. There’s a coming and going of waiters serving tables, cleaning up and making sure that everyone’s glasses of wine stay full. “We had an amazing kick-off,” Meliefste says as he guides us through his restaurant. “Doing this many shifts, or ‘waves’ as we call them, is fantastic to manage, but you have to prepare everything accordingly. Therefore, our kitchen team consists of over 12 individuals, all of whom have the same aim I do.” Meliefste explains that he has the intention of giving his guests an amazing experience, one that they will never forget. “I hope everybody who dines at Aperto takes it home and cherishes it.” Earlier this year Meliefste was approached to join the adventure on the Holy Grounds. “I didn’t have to think twice to say yes,” he says. “I wasn’t only asked to join the adventure, but also to develop recipes that would take the food at Tomorrowland to another level.” Many ideas crossed his mind, but the first one he worked out was to create a mystical tree full of... apéritifs. This tree is as tasty as greens come, with Elixir of Life cocktails growing from its roots and steam bellowing out. When the guests are seated, they also find small boxes on their tables. “The card in there has more information about where we are, who I am and what my prerogatives are while running Aperto. It ends with the statement that their adventure is about to begin. Once they have absorbed these wisdoms, they can proceed to eat the card,” he says laughingly. “No really, it’s actually edible!” Before the main course leaves the kitchen, Meliefste lies his eagle eyes upon every single platter, making sure that the level of perfection stays at a firm 100%. “You are at a festival where nothing is too much, and therefore I want to bring that same vibe to every dish that I make.” The attitude is put to practice in the way Meliefste approaches the Tastes of the World concept. “We have a lot of South American influences, as well as Asian and European touches, and to top things off, a sprinkle of magic from

Zeeland, the Dutch province where my roots lie and where my restaurant is”. All of the products Meliefste works with are locally grown. “I know exactly where everything comes from.” As for the dessert, the iconic Tomorrowland logo was made out of pink ruby chocolate, white chocolate and raspberries – served in the Book of Wisdom itself. “I had the logo transformed into a mold by Moldbrothers from the Netherlands. They specialize in molds for the food sector.” Once the ingredients are poured into this mold, edible logos come out that truly look amazing. “I see a lot of pictures and videos on social media, so I guess my guests can appreciate the effort I put into it,” Meliefste adds. “It’s a good finishing touch for the entire Aperto experience.” Restaurant Meliefste Meliefste’s own restaurant – which is also named Meliefste – is located by the marina of Wolphaartsdijk, Zeeland, with a beautiful view of the lake. Meliefste gladly elaborates on the gastronomic history of this place. “It is a place where passion, knowledge and love for the profession go hand in hand. The environment and the seasons play an important role: we let nature guide us and draw our inspiration from this,” he says. “We have a more extensive menu over at the restaurant, but with the same ‘wow’ effect. I pay a lot of attention to styling as well. People back home call me crazy when I say that I am serving my dishes to 6,000 People of Tomorrow.” We can only assume they’re referring to a good kind of Madness, as most couverts were sold out online beforehand and only a few are still available on site. Meliefste is not the only one, though: all the Tomorrowland restaurants are sold out, proving that the People of Tomorrow aren’t only here to rave and eat burgers; they want all of their senses to be satisfied. When asked if there would be a dish that he would never serve, Meliefste has the most professional answer ready. “Of course you prefer some recipes or ingredients over others, but I am willing to take on every challenge. I would be happy to give my own vibe to every existing recipe there is. Let’s give it a Meliefste-proof upgrade.” Let’s talk music
Though the food here is his magnum opus, there is more to Meliefste’s story than just his love for food. Surely, he has a musical side to him? “I’m such a sucker for hardstyle and hardcore, it’s frightful,” he chuckles. Meliefste appreciates the choice for more hardstyle DJs such as Da Tweekaz on the Mainstage. “Aperto is sound-proofed, though. You can’t really hear what’s going down at the Mainstage.” If he can be excused later on this evening, there is no doubt that he will pay a visit to the Q-dance stage since his idols D-Block and S-te-Fan are playing. “My favourite act last year was Coone. The audience was going wild, it was truly a sight to see.”
WHERE TO FIND APERTO This year, Aperto has a new spot on the Holy Grounds. Previously, the restaurant was located by the Cage stage, but it has now been moved right to the top of the Mainstage hill – you can’t miss it!

GO FOR GREEN The Recycle Club is one of the branches of the Love Tomorrow program, wherein the People of Tomorrow are encouraged to become more conscious about how we’re treating the mighty beautiful Earth we all live on. At their Recycle Clubhouse, there is a 3D printer that uses recycled materials to make actual furniture, and there’s stories told about Mother Earth. The Recycle Kit consists out of a box with guidelines on how to sort out your trash and two garbage bags: one for PMD (plastic bottles, metal cans, drink cartons) waste and one for other litter. You can actually watch live recycling in process if you take a sneak peek through the windows. If we all work together we can keep DreamVille, and thus nature, clean and green and keep coming back here for many years to come. Isn’t that just the way we like it?
GO FOR GOLD
Ready to spit fire? The upcoming summer is the perfect time to get a new style of sunnies on. As you already must have noticed, accessories are an important part of the looks of the People of Tomorrow. In the bling department, you might spot sparkly necklaces, fashionable purses, and other state-of-theart embellishments. For its 15th anniversary, Tomorrowland is out with another bold look, as the brand new official TOMORROWLAND x KOMONO 24-karat goldcoated sunglasses have officially been launched. Another news alert? There were only 50 items produced. Each pair of these luxury sunglasses displays the iconic logo on both temples, and has the quote ‘Live Today, Love Tomorrow, Unite Forever’ engraved on the inside. Coated in 24-karat gold, the lenses are a true fashion statement and also offer 100% UV 400 Protection. In order to create these spectacular spectacles, TML by Tomorrowland partnered up with Komono – an Antwerpbased brand that brings its sleek design, inspired colour palette and minimalist aesthetic to the world of accessories. Must have a pair? These sunglasses are only available on festival days from 15h-16h in the Official TML by Tomorrowland Boutique at the food court behind the Mainstage.
CREW LIFE
Ever heard the saying ‘It’s the crew life, you wouldn’t understand?’ Well, perhaps we can change that and help you, in fact, understand. And who could be a better help than an actual bartender from bar 48, right in front of the Mainstage? Meet Lindsay, who is just starting her shift. “I started my day at 1 p.m.,” she says. “That sounds pretty late for a kick-off, but we keep going until 2 in the morning,” she giggles. “I’m very happy to work in front of the Mainstage again, I appreciate the view and I just love the vibe. Everybody’s really thankful for the work the crew does, and no one minds if they have to wait for a bit when it’s very busy.” Serving a fresh beer to a guest, her colleague Sofie agrees: “It sounds like a cliché, but it feels like one big family here.” Backstage, in the pantry, we meet Bram. “I found this spot through NOWJOBS, and when they told me I had the opportunity of being a bartender here, I didn’t have to think twice. Besides the fun work, it’s also a chance to practice your languages and interact with different cultures.” 21
LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR For two weekends a year, the number of inhabitants of Boom explodes by a whopping 500% when 200,000 people descend upon the quaint town to bring the Madness. Please be respectful and kind towards our neighbours, and bear in mind that you’re a guest in their hometown while you’re here. Luckily, most of the inhabitants of Boom are more than happy to welcome you on their turf, and will do all that’s possible to make the best out of these weeks. You can meet them on the streets looking and smiling at you, hanging out by the festival entrance, and you’ll even notice that some of them have ornamented their homes as if to say ‘welcome, People of Tomorrow’. The De Boeck family from the neighbouring town of Reet went a little further still, as they put up a huge, 24-square-metre flag on the roof of their house. It took them over two hours to hang it there. Now that’s dedication! Don’t forget to love thy neighbours, as they surely do love you.

WISDOM THE RETURN
As you should know by now, this fifteenth edition of Tomorrowland marks the return of the infamous Book of Wisdom, which first came to life in 2012. For this special anniversary, Tomorrowland opened up the library that records its history and all of the great moments, events and adventures the People of Tomorrow have shared together. Those of you who have taken the time to study the whole thing meticulously may have already found some surprises, hidden gems, and even a hint towards the future. For those of you who didn’t: here’s a little help.
MMXIX 3 Global Journey
2014
Since 2014, people from all over the world have been able to book travel packages, flying to Boom in Tomorrowland-themed airplanes. Since then, the concept has expanded into a whole journey through Europe, taking a tour of its great cities before heading to the Holy Grounds.
4 The Key to Happiness
MMXIX
2014
5 Chattahoochee Hills
1 The Hymn of the Frozen Lotus
2019
Earlier this year, Tomorrowland went looking for new heights and found them on top of the French Alps: enter Tomorrowland Winter. The same magical experience, but lived on top of a snowy mountain during ski season. The Hymn of the Frozen Lotus was grand, and a second Winter edition is planned for next year.
2013-2015
For three editions, from 2013 to 2015 to be precise, Tomorrowland crossed the big pond for an American edition called TomorrowWorld. 25 miles southwest of Atlanta, in Chattahoochee Hills, the Madness came to life in the United States in a scenery very similar to De Schorre.
6 The Symphony of Unity
In 2015, the National Orchestra of Belgium took over the Opera stage to bring a live rendition of famous movie composer Hans Zimmer’s Tomorrowland Hymn. No less than 80 musicians were involbed.
2 The Arising of Life
2013
Next to the first Book of Wisdom, one of the most iconic Tomorrowland stages ever was the Key to Happiness stage. Its story first unfolded in Boom in 2014, but was repeated at TomorrowWorld in the United States and Tomorrowland Brasil a year later.
The Arising of Life stage was the centrepiece of 2013’s edition and followed up on the first edition of the Book of Wisdom. With a huge volcano in the middle, surrounded by waterfalls and fountains, this was – at least in girth – the biggest stage until then.

8 Planaxis
For last year’s theme, we took a dive to deep under the sea, towards the kinds of depths where the animals are still able to speak. The Story of Planaxis was a wondrous underwater world with corals, a big seahorse in the middle, and aquatic lifeforms blowing bubbles all over.
2017
Unfortunately, not everything has been fun and games over the last fifteen years as we have had to say goodbye to some dear friends. The ‘In Loving Memory of Tim Bergling’ book is an homage to the late, great Avicii. Let it be known that he is still, and always will be, sorely missed.
11 Amicorum Spectaculum
Carnivale! Circus acts, acrobats and merry-go-rounds were seen aplenty when the Amicorum Spectaculum touched down in Boom in 2017. This travelling band of performers are quite simply the best in the world, and they would not let you leave before having seen every last one of their tricks.
12 Garden of Madness
9 The Tree of Life
2011
10 In Loving Memory of Tim Bergling
The Tree of Life looked out over the delta in front of the Mainstage with big, innocent eyes. Its branches and roots spanned over an imaginative world of mushrooms and rainbows. The rain that year was a blessing, for it only helped the Tree grow.

The Garden of Madness is a concept created by Tomorrowland and curated by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. It started off as one of the biggest stages on the Holy Grounds, then went on the road and became a series of dates at Ushuïa Ibiza, before also being adopted as the theme for their Sportpaleis Antwerp shows.

FOCUS ON THE MUSIC What’s the red line running through the wisest story ever told on Earth? That’s right – music. From the tentative first sounds of the day at the smaller stages to the thunderous roar of thousands singing along by the Mainstage, there is never a quiet page in the Book of Wisdom. On the following pages, you can learn all there is to know about the sounds that you will hear during your last day at Tomorrowland. You’ll find artist interviews, biographies of acts that you don’t want to miss, the full timetable for all stages, and a daily Daybreak Sessions feature. Read on, and enjoy the music!

LOTUS
In Belgium, if you want to move your feet to 180+ BPM beats, Footworxx is where you turn. Hardcore/gabber as a genre may have its origins in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, but Belgium wasn’t far away, so the genre soon gained popularity in the nineties. The music spun at Footworxx events is the modern cousin of that oldschool sound: not for the faint of heart, and therefore suitable for a smaller, dimly lit space such as the Cage. Whatever happens in the Cage stays in the Cage, or so they say, and we’re not allowed to reveal too much, but we will say that you can expect DJ sets at mind-boggling speeds by experienced hardcore DJs such as The Satan vs Sei2ure, Miss Enemy vs Anhatema, F.Noize, Dr. Peacock and others.
Again, Charlotte de Witte is hosting a stage at Tomorrowland, where she has invited some of her favourite purveyors of bold and mildly aggressive techno. Charlotte’s 2018 appearances on the Mainstage and her hosting at the Arch were so well-received that Tomorrowland simply had to ask her to return. Apart from Charlotte herself, this year’s KNTXT stage boasts performances by former Plus 8 Records head honcho Richie Hawtin, from Canada, one of Italy’s very biggest techno jocks, Sam Paganini, and a live performance by Monoloc. Additional sets are provided by Jorden Hodgetts aka Cleric, the very talented up-and-coming Jeroen Search and Detroit-influenced, Los Angeles-based techno selector Onyvaa.
The brothers Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike have been an essential part of Tomorrowland for about a decade now. Both their Ushuaïa residency in Ibiza and their Sportpaleis Antwerp nights are Tomorrowland-produced; these guys live and breathe Tomorrowland in everything they do, in other words. It comes as no surprise, then, that their stage hosting turns out to be one of the most outstanding today. The artists featured at Smash the House are a crossover between EDM and modern urban sounds. A taste? There’s NYC’s most prominent diva, Paris Hilton; J Balvin, who is arguably Latin music’s biggest star; and one of the most prominent Dutch-language rappers of the moment, Lil Kleine – all in one day, all on one stage.

Slowly waking up on the dance floor to a soundtrack of easy-going four-to-thefloor beats: this is a Daybreak Session. Today’s slot may be the dreamiest one of the whole weekend, as it’s Claus Terhoeven and Stefan Bossems spinning. Cosmic Gate were some of the first to produce the music now known as trance, and with such an abundance of musical knowledge, this set is set to be a special one. The German duo started off producing together in the late nineties, focusing on a sound that was known as hard trance. As they grew older, they came to appreciate and produce more laidback subgenres of trance. That type of sound is something they are expected to focus on today, although you can never be entirely sure. Cosmic Gate’s output is impressively diverse - besides hard trance productions, it also includes more euphoric and washed-out work, produced together with other global hotshots including Armin van Buuren, Tiësto and Johan Gielen. A great example of a Cosmic Gate tune that would be perfect for a Daybreak Session is their remix of ‘Call to Arms’ by the great Gareth Emery (feat. Evan Henzi) – a track that’s a gateway to another world. With Cosmic Gate’s annual schedule being rather intense, we expect the duo to see this long and easy set as a welcome, laidback variation on what they normally bring to their audiences across the globe. Something to truly look forward to!

MC STRETCH FOCUS ON GLORIOUS SUNDAY MAINSTAGE | ALL DAY LONG
When he says hey, you say ho. When you say Mainstage, we say MC Stretch. When he asks you to jump or sit down, that’s exactly what you do. But he’s a far more versatile MC and goes beyond the classic tricks out of the crowd-controlling handbook; he’s the kind of host that makes you feel at home, keeps you on the tip of your toes and propels the DJs to give nothing but their very best. His home is at the foot of the Mainstage, cozily decorated and very welcoming, where he accredits the dance music superstars of the world – not to steal their thunder in any way, but to make the crowd roar with excitement and joy. Meet the groundskeeper of Tomorrowland’s finest stage, the voice of the weekend and a thoroughly nice bloke: here’s MC Stretch. What’s the hardest part about hosting and MC’ing on the Mainstage? “The hardest part is that everybody wants to do their own MC’ing now. Because everything’s being streamed to millions of people now, it doesn’t make sense to encroach on their moment, as much as I might like to. The guys get one hour to do their thing, they want to talk on the mic, and I can’t interfere because it’s their show, you know? Some guys will go: ‘Stretch, come in and come on, do your thing’, some won’t. I want to help them, but sometimes they want to do it on their own.”
Sometimes, you must know better than them. “I always know better than them (laughs)!” You’ve been MC’ing at Tomorrowland for thirteen years now. What are the do’s and don’t of running a huge stage like the Mainstage? What are the secrets of the craft? “It’s 100% a craft, absolutely. It’s not just shouting into a microphone. The key is to know music, dance music. Not just your little balcony of sounds - you need to know the whole beach, you know what I mean? You can look out from your balcony on that beautiful place, but you need to walk up and down that beach a few times to understand the real beauty.” You’ve welcomed a staggering lineup of DJs over the course of the weekend. With which one of them was the rendezvous the most fun, and why? “It’s always great to see Tiësto. He’s the one who made me famous! He was here on Friday and we played a game of pool. He beat me, but then again, he’s a bit of a hustler (laughs). It’s always wonderful to see Dimi and Mike, and Armin of course, and the young guys as well: Licious, W&W. All of them really, they’re all family. I’m Uncle Stretch, you know. If you have a problem and no one else can help you, come to me!”

What’s your opinion on the Daybreak Sessions? And how do you, as the host and MC, go about them? “The Daybreak Sessions are the best idea in festival history, ever, and they’re actually easier to MC. That’s because you know that the DJ’s got almost three hours and depending on what that DJ wants to do, they will mostly work with me during that time. So, it could be every thirty minutes or every forty-five minutes, doesn’t matter. They need that ‘Tomorrowland, let the DJ know how you’re feeling!’, you know? Tickle the audience a bit. It’s the mayonnaise over the Belgian Fries, not too much, just enough.” Tomorrow’s the third day of the festival, are you getting tired? Do you look forward to having a couple of days of rest before the second leg of the Madness begins? “I’m not getting tired, but I am looking forward to a week of silence in between the two weekends. I’m going to have four days of holiday with my children, with lots of love, cuddles and rest. But after that, it’s all about next weekend. We’ll go all out again, I promise you!” With what last words will you see the people off Sunday night after the last of the fireworks? “I love you all! And I’m proud of you, see you next time (laughs).”

TOMORROWLAND TODAY
JULY 21ST 2019
INFECTED MUSHROOM Alteza Records (Kara Savi) | 21h30 – 23h00
That’s right, the dinosaurs of psytrance are set to bring their magic to Boom! Artists hardly come more authoritative than this within the genre, and if you’re into mind-expanding sounds, you should really try to make it to this performance. The Israeli duo have been around for so long, it’s about time they’d deliver a set of classic tracks to you. Expect classic cuts such as ‘Becoming Insane’ and ‘I Wish’ to be part of this retro show, wherein Eisen and Duvdevani will be performing exclusively live, rather than DJing.
THESE ARE THE WRITERS OF THE BOOK OF WISDOM
CHARLOTTE DE WITTE
KNTXT (Atmosphere) | 21h00 – 22h30 It’s almost bizarre to think Charlotte de Witte’s first EP came out just four years ago. Her rise on the scene has been spectacular, to say the least, and her strippeddown, aggressive and functional strand of techno has since brought her to clubs and festivals all over the globe. Fans love Charlotte for the positive and energetic way she brings her melancholic, hard and dark techno. As contradictory as that may seem, the subversive electronic sound is simply what she loves. Staying close to yourself in whatever you do makes you happy, that’s only natural, right? Charlotte feels comfortable playing any kind of stage, from clubs and smaller Tomorrowland areas to where she is right now; she debuted on the Mainstage only a year ago with her signature, relentless sound. Give that set a spin on YouTube and you’ll understand why she is one the most in-demand DJs on the techno scene right now. A funny fact about Charlotte is that she started out releasing music using the Raving George alter ego, as she wanted to avoid stereotypes surrounding female producers. It’s a trick she no longer needs these days, as by now we all know she’s a star who has made it on her own merit.
MARTIN SOLVEIG Martin Solveig & Friends (Freedom)
LAIDBACK LUKE
Glitterbox (Cage) | 20h30 - 22h00
20h30 – 22h00 Martin Solveig, the Parisian DJ/producer who once sang in a church choir, has become a regular guest at Tomorrowland, and for good reason. The man, who’s produced a mad amount of dance hits and remixes and has collaborated with the likes of Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez, Bob Sinclar and DJ Spen, excels at funky, high-quality sets with a very positive attitude. He describes his own sound as “fun, not too cheesy, with a beat that always makes you want to dance.” Today sees Solveigh join forces with British tropical house hitmaker Jax Jones, best known for dropping his banger ‘You Don’t Know Me’ back in 2016. 30 30
Likely the most credible EDM DJ among underground music heads, there’s a reason for Laidback Luke’s peculiar position between the mainstream and indie scenes. He first started getting into dance music during the early nineties, when various strands of electronic music including techno, trance and house were championed at the very same raves. Luke never lost that versatile approach to loving and playing music, so when EDM came along, he also embraced that sound. With such extensive musical knowledge, Laidback Luke’s sets are stuffed with goodies from all genres and eras. Never a dull moment with this guy, that’s for sure!

RICHIE HAWTIN
KNTXT (Atmosphere) | 22h30 – 00h00
KSHMR
Mainstage | 19h00 – 20h00
The career history of Canadian producer Richie Hawtin has been vast and tumultuous. Hailing from Windsor, a Canadian suburb of Detroit, Richie - being a white kid - initially had a hard time being accepted in a scene which was predominantly black at the time. But Rich persisted, setting up his label Plus 8, where he released his own music alongside work by Kenny Larkin and Speedy J. Eventually Detroit hotshots started digging his music as well - hearing Jeff Mills play one of his tracks was a major milestone in Richie’s early career. Head to Atmosphere today for a special set of strong-headed minimal techno by this true master.
Hailing from California’s Bay Area, Niles HollowellDhar aka KSHMR started his musical career as a pop/dance crossover producer, first as a member of the Cataracs, working with the likes of DEV and Selena Gomez. Hollowell-Dhar’s releases under his KSHMR alias started appearing from 2014 onwards, gaining instant traction and critical acclaim. That led to works with a long and impressive list of collaborators including Firebeatz, R3hab, Tiësto, Bassjackers, Hardwell, Carnage, Timmy Trumpet, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and DallasK. Earlier this year, Hollowell-Dhar made big waves with his new track ‘No Regrets’, a collaboration with Belgian DJ Yves V and the group Krewella. Go check out KSHMR, as he’s one of the most exciting names in the current EDM scene.
KÖLSCH
ILARIO ALICANTE
Nervo Nation (Youphoria) | 18h00 – 19h00
Having a Grammy nomination in your pocket even before your debut album comes out, scoring a international worldwide hit single with the first song you’ve ever written together, and being featured in a commercial for the Apple Watch all in one year: faut le faire. But that’s exactly what the New York-based musical duo Sofi Tukker did in 2016. Sofi Tukker are Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, and they’re out to turn dancefloors around the world inside out with a majestic blend of 90’s house, a touch of Brazil, and a big old spoonful of what they call ‘junglepop’. Their songs are uplifting, catchy and intelligently put together, which resulted in a critically acclaimed first EP, ‘Soft Animals’, as well as their debut album ‘Treehouse’ – off which it is nearly impossible to not have heard the cracking hit single ‘Best Friend’. Today they’re invited by NERVO and share the stage with other greats like Tinie Tempah and Eastblock Bitches. Sofi Tukker stands for the kind of pop music you’d want to hear on a perfect summer night, with your feet in the sand, holding a colorful cocktail with a little umbrella in it in your hand. Like today, for example.
Bonzai (The Rose Garden) 22h30 – 23h30 He may seem to hail from Cologne in Germany, but Rune Reilly Kölsch – one of the most indemand techno DJs on the planet – is really Danish! The man is a very all-round artist, but more than anything, Kölsch excels at creating emotion-inducing melodies that bring his fans to tears (of joy, obviously). And that reservoir of fans has grown bigger and bigger over the past few years – from being a techno festival up-andcomer, Kölsch has come all the to playing the most magical of stages here in beautiful Boom.

Cocoon (Core) | 17h30 – 19h30
Born in late 1988 under the beautiful sun of Livorno, Italy, ‘enfant prodige’ Ilario Alicante started to develop a passion for music at a young age, mentored by his mother. Ilario’s subsequent rise has been nothing short of meteoric. A record-breaking Time Warp debut at the tender age of 15, acclaimed productions for Cocoon Recordings, Cécille Records and SCI + TEC Digital Audio, and famed sets over the past ten (!) Ibiza seasons have all firmly established him as one of the scene’s most active contenders. Today he joins Sven Väth’s Cocoon stage with a two-hour set of pounding techno music that’ll leave you dazzled.
