Did everybody have a good time at Leesburg? Damn, that festival just keeps getting bigger and bigger! It’s fantastic the way the entire city works together and celebrates the fact that thousands and thousands of motorcyclists will visit the area, spend millions of dollars, fill the hotel rooms, eat at local restaurants and have a great time without causing any real problems! Yes, Leesburg does it right and it has evolved into one of the top motorcycle events in the Southeastern United States. Congratulations to Joe Shipes and the rest of the Leesburg crew for a spectacular event! Memorial Day Weekend (May 28-30) are the dates of Freedom Fest that takes place in Oldsmar. While Freedom Fest is no Leesburg, it is a great 3-day party that features live music on two stages, hundreds of vendors, live wrestling show, two bike shows, a car show, a wing eating contest and more. It takes place on State Street in downtown Oldsmar and is an event you won’t want to miss! May is a super-busy month in the motorcycle community with Brothers Powder Coating Motorfest starting things off on May 1-2 .... that is followed by a benefit for Phil Serletic who is fighting cancer. Phil is part of our Full Throttle family and I hope you all can attend. It takes place at Grass Flats on May 8 .... The Suncoast Brotherhood’s Annual Chili Cookoff and the Cruise For Kids Run both take place on May 16 .... Oldsmar Freedom Fest concludes a busy month May 28-30. I would also like to invite everybody to Tony Cianci’s 30th Birthday Party Bash that will take place on Friday evening, May 7th at The Zone in Tarpon Springs. You only turn 30 once and this should be one fun-filled night! I want to wish Tony a happy birthday along with Sister Throttle who celebrates on May 1st, my daughter-in-law Christine who turns another year older on May 6th and my buddy George who celebrates on May 29th. You all don’t want to forget Mother’s Day on May 9th! Wow ... May is one exciting month! Mix these events in with great weather that is perfect for riding, Tampa Bay Ray baseball games, concerts and other outside activities and you see why May is one of the best times of the year here in Florida. Have a wonderful month and I hope to see you at one (or more) of our events!
Well, it’s finally here! May 2010….That means I am now 30 years old! It’s ok, I hear 30 is the new 21 so it looks like it is time to party! Speaking of parties if you want to come out and celebrate my 30th birthday we will be at the Zone Lounge in Tarpon Springs all night long on Friday May 7th. There are soooo many great events happening this month! Let’s hope the weather treats us right and it rains on Monday and Tuesdays and is nice on Wednesday’s and the weekends! To starts with there is Brothers Motorfest May 1st and 2nd, then May 8th is the benefit for Phil Serletic, next on May 16th there are a couple of events like the rescheduled Cruise For Kids and the rescheduled Suncoast Brotherhood Chili Cook Off, after that on May 22nd is the Bud Run and Bubba’s Bikes For Badges….AND OF COURSE – May 28-30 is OLDSMAR FREEDOM FEST!!!! WOW….That a lot of events for 1 month! You will probably be able to find us at all if not most of these! Mark your calendars now and try to go to as many as possible What do you think about our new calendar fold out in this issue? Special thanks to St. Pete Powersports and Donny for getting this together! You will be able to get your calendar signed and pictures with Brie on May 19th at Quaker Steak! Look for the huge Indian Truck, she will be there waiting for you to stop by and say hi! As you can see Full Throttle keeps raising the bar when it comes to advertising with new and inventive ideas. If you own a company, a business, a shop or whatever and you want the motorcycle community to know who you are; Full Throttle is your magazine of choice! We are the #1 monthly motorcycle magazine and it shows! Who else has distribution in 7-Eleven’s or a fold out calendar or hosts a state wide “sore ass” poker run….NOONE! Advertising opportunities start as low as $100 per month! Pick up the phone, shoot us an e-mail or just stop by the Lube every Wednesday night and come talk to us! We will help you find the best way to advertise your product or services to the motorcycle community! The heat is here, and everyone in Florida knows what that means, LOVEBUGS! Those damn pesky bugs get all over everything and love to swarm during those great riding days. So please be careful and make sure you have a dew rag, helmet or some other way to protect yourself! Also, make sure you have plenty of water so you stay hydrated and always have some sunscreen in your saddle bag. These are very important items to have especially if you are going on a ride that has any distance! Be safe or be sorry, that’s what I say! Remember, don’t drink and ride and I’ll see you soon!

Full Throttle Magazine We are coming into the weather that we have been waiting for, Good riding weather, some rain and the only complaint we will hear is it is to hot to ride. This spring has gone by fast and we still have a lot of things going on. There is the RUN TO THE WALL in Pennsacola, Fl. on Memorial Day Weekend and Rolling Thunder in Washington D.C.. If you have never attended either of these functions, it is well worth the trip. The Vietnam Vets and Legacy Vets in Pennsacola have a vey interesting Wall Experience. As some of you don't know, Florida has a permanent VIETNAM WALL near the beach. It is a smaller scale of the one in D.C. but it is large enough to have a Huey Helicopter sitting on top of the wall in the center. If you have never visited the Vietnam Wall when it travels or when you are near one you should take the time to visit and honor all of those who put their lives on the line for our FREEDOM.You also need to remember our service men and women that are protecting those same freedoms today. In your thoughts and prayers remember a VET. The Price of Freedom Isn't Free. As this year is flying by, don't forget to mark your calanders for DECEMBER 12TH, 2010 for our next TOY RUN. Everything is the same as last year. Start at Derby Lane Dog Track on Gandy Blvd.and go across the Gandy Bridge to American Legion Post 138 in Tampa. It is a FUN TIME. We wish to thank KAREN BROOKS and RIDER LINKS for their effort to raise money to send Chapter D, St. Petersburg to go to Rolling Thunder. Thank You again. That is it until next month, REMEMBER TO RIDE SAFE NO MATTER WHAT YOU RIDE. KEELHAULER

fundraiser poker run to help us Our story:
Get Aelyn a Little Brother...
My wife and I got married in July of 2000. We tried right away to have a kid, but after a miscarriage, found out we would have to have science intervene for any possibility of having a child. My wife is the strongest woman I know…..she went through 2 surgeries, and endured more needles than I can count; but after 4 bouts with hormone therapies, 3 IUI procedures, and 3 failed IVF tries, we decided she had been through enough, and would move on to adoption. After spending a little over $100,000 on 7 years of infertility treatments, we had to come up with the $30,000 for adoption through loans and depleting nearly all the income from my company to ensure we could do it. We were placed with a prospective birth mother just 3 months after going active with the adoption agency. Unfortunately, she just scammed us for living expenses, and canceled the adoption 2 hours before her delivery was induced. We lost $11,600 paying her bills and on non-refundable lawyer fees. Saddened, but not giving up, we started over; and luckily, after only 6 months, we were paired with another birth mother. Our daughter Aelyn Makenna was born February 12th, 2008...3 months early, weighing only 2 ½ pounds. She was in a NICU unit for the next 2 months before we could pick her up. We visited her often as we could, but travel, and adoption fees had taken a toll on our finances, having taken a second mortgage on our home to pay for the adoption of Aelyn. All in all, we have paid out almost $150,000 to get where we are today, and have tapped out every financial resource we have. All available pennies and other fundraisers have taken place over the last 2 years…this is another idea with hopes of raising necessary funds. Thank you for any consideration! Rob & Kim Peirson

AMERICA’S YOUTH
“ Too young to drink but not too young for Capital Punishment “
Seventeen year old. Christopher Simmons murdered Shirley Cook in 1993, when he was 17 years old. After a robbery attempt, he bound and gagged the woman, and pushed her off a railroad trestle, causing her death. Prior to the robbery, he told his accomplice that they could get away with murder because they were juveniles. He was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death.” He argued that execution for a murder that he committed at the age of 17 would be cruel and unusual punishment, In the United States laws vary from state to state as to what age a juvenile convicted of a serious crime may be sentenced to death. In 1988 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to impose the death penalty on a person who had committed the offense when aged fifteen or younger. According to statistics, between 1990 and 1995, 36 persons who were under the age of 18 were sentenced to death, the majority of them being from the state of Texas (Hood 89). “In the last 30 years, 22 people have been executed for murders they committed as juveniles. All were 17 when they killed except one, who was 16. Sentencing rates also have fallen, from 18 juveniles condemned in 1994 to two so far this year.” (Victor Streib, a law professor at Ohio Northern University) Moreover, even where such executions are legal, most states simply aren’t executing the juvenile killers on their Death Rows. Alabama has not done it since 1961, Florida since 1954 and Mississippi since 1950. “Texas is continuing the practice most regularly,” Streib said. “Of the 22 juvenile killers executed in the past three decades, 13 were put to death in Texas.” During the last several years, Florida has emerged as the toughest state on juvenile crime, a perception that is now backed up with hard statistics from the Office of Juvenile
Justice and Delinquency Prevention. In 1995, Florida transferred 7,000 juveniles to the adult court system, 2,200 more juveniles than transferred to the adult court system nationwide (Klug 100). Juvenile arrests for violent crimes will more than double by the year 2010 if recent national trends continue; the number of youths arrested for murder is expected to increase by 145 percent by the year 2010. Much of the criticism surrounding sentencing juveniles to death row centers on the hypocrisy involved. For instance, juveniles under the age of 18 cannot vote, buy cigarettes, or join the armed services. Additionally, children under the age of eighteen cannot buy alcohol. According to the U.S. government, juveniles below this minimum age do not have the reasoning skills and the judgment necessary to make sound and responsible choices. This reasoning is conspicuously absent when governments decide at what age juveniles should be held accountable for the judgments they make when committing a serious crime (McCormick 15). Studies suggest juveniles cannot control impulses and are more susceptible to peer pressure than adults. “We’re not trying to remove responsibility from adolescents,” said Dr. Richard Ratner, past president of the American Society for Adolescent Psychiatry and a psychiatry professor at George Washington University. “We’re just trying to say that because adolescent brains are not fully mature, we ought to withhold the ultimate punishment of death for their crimes.” During the adolescent years, juveniles undergo cognitive and socieo-emotional processes. Between the ages of 12 to 18 adolescents begin to solve problems by way of deductive reasoning (Santrock 334). However, during the teen years cognitive development and reasoning skills are still developing, just as the adolescent is. For this reason, adolescents do not have the same fully developed reasoning abilities as adults. They are biologically incapable of reaching the same decisions an adult would in any given circumstance because their reasoning skills are still in the developmental stages (McCormick 15). In addition juveniles are
especially vulnerable to peer pressure. Since junior high and high schools are plagued with gang activity, the pressure to join in illegal activity is often more than many adolescents can withstand.” When a society starts killing its children, something is wrong, something is deadly wrong.” Joseph Green Brown, death row survivor, 1998. If we are to truly become the humanitarian society we claim to be, we must reevaluate the standards to which we condemn our youth, and then take proactive steps towards building a new system that takes into account their diminished decision and reasoning capacity. Individuals, who are too young to vote, buy alcohol or cigarettes, or serve in defense of the country, are surely too young to be sentenced to death. I do not agree to apply criminal law, whose main purpose is to punish juvenile offenders. If young murders are applied to criminal law and are cast in jail, they are punished and are insulated from society for a long time. It would be hard for them to be reintegrated into society. It is a shame to spoil the life what he/she did when he/ she was young. I believe education would be able to change young people. I believe they should be given a chance to make a recovery. Should my son ever be convicted and condemned to death, my viewpoint as a father is; I would rather visit my son in jail than visit my son’s grave. Works Cited Hood, R. PaRT 2 : THE COnFEDERaCy....THE UnIOn anD THE BaTTLE OF BaLLaST POInT
It’s interesting how life gets busy sometimes, so busy with work, bike shows and visitors that you fi nd yourself mentally unprepared to write, a bit of that infamous “writers block” so many Hollywood movies are based on.But whenever it comes to clearing my mind of the mundane and clutter a ride on one of my vintage motorcycles usually works. Well it was a dark and stormy Sunday that I awoke to.And I thought to myself what better way to put myself in a Civil War mindset than to retrace some of their paths, wet, cold and hungry as they probabaly were.A proper mindset to fi nish my 2 part story part motorbike adventure, part history lesson and part personal refl ections. I chose “Dutch” my BMW sidecar bike, put on my oldest leather jacket and worst pair of boots and left the $300.00 rain gear behind, it’s 1863 now in my mind. I set off for my fi rst stop at Ballast Point Pier.So off I rode and arrived in a light grey drizzle at the starting point of my tale and my ride back into Cival War history. The basis of the story of the Battle of Ballast Point is this. Captain James McKay was a successful Tampa business man, local hero and future mayor who became aligned with the Confederacy to run blockade ships, fast and of shallow draft ,to Cuba trading cotton for pistols, rifl es, ammunition and coff ee then slipping back by the union held Egmont Key and their warships bent on stopping him. When Captain McKay made his sixth successful blockade run on the notorious sidewheel steamer Scottish Chief, and after the union learned of his purchase of the 100 foot Kate Dale they made a plan to destroy both ships before they left their docks in the Hillsborough River (near Lowry Park Zoo now). As I sat there on my old sidecar bike at Ballast Point I could almost see the Unions cunning plan unfolding. They had decided to stage a diversion using the USS Tahoma and the USS Adela, both very well armed steam warships that had recently captured 7 confederate blockade runners in and around Tampa Bay. On the morning of Oct.17th. 1863 they moved up to Fort Brooke (now the Tampa Convention Center) and began diversionary shelling. As the real landing force would march overland to fi nd and destroy McKay’s ships. After an intense all day shelling by both ships, a large Southern force was seen to be moving into the area to oppose the fake landing. Both ships retreated to deeper waters south of what is now Mac Dill AFB. At 11 pm, 100 men landed on the beach and divided into 2 divisions. After a 14 mile march through thick palmettos and pine trees, and avoiding enemy houses and roads they arrived at the Hillsbough River at 4am. By now my motorbike and I had started on the same march. I was wet, cold and had low visibility as they would have. Was I motoring over the same ground these Union soldiers had travelled over 147 years ago? The only true Civil war battle to take place in our area? I stopped the BMW and looked at Fort Brooke, I could see the Union troops moving toward the Confederate ships up river. At daybreak, the Adela and the Tahoma, now near the Fort again opened fi re at the same time the raiding party set fi re to the Scottish Chief and the Kate Dale and the 167 bales of cotton that were to be traded to Cuba to further the South’s cause. As I sat there on my Bavarian time machine in the downpour I could see Captain John Mckay’s face, knowing his blockade running days were over and maybe the Confederacys. But Dutch and I needed to get moving, chasing history. back to Ballast Point which was the designated pick up point for the 100
men of the raiding party, but we all know that the 2 burning ships up river had alerted the enemy. We would now make haste and use a direct route to the safety of the gunships. But unknown to me and the fl eeing Yankees that I felt were with me and Dutch, 40 confederate calvary soldiers were headed south to intercept us. Oh did I mention, Company A, 2nd. Florida infantry battalion was on our trail too? At 10:00 am we arrived at the beach (the current intersection of Gandy and Bayshore) the Tahoma and Adela are sending all men and boats to us. Just then the Confederates open fi re. They also have a Tampa made cannon fi ring deadly buckshot. The Adela’s cannon fi res cover to suppress the enemy tree line shooting. By 2:00 pm all boats had returned with the wounded and prisoners. As I sat there on my old motorbike I felt a sense of sadness from my civil war re-enactment and of all wars that our troops have fought. I know that I feel with my vintage bikes that I have a deeper love of all history or more of a mindset to chase it. 6 confederates were killed near where I sat, 7 captured and many wounded. The Union paid a price also 3 sailors killed, 10 wounded and 5 prisoners. Of course both sides congratulated each other on a victory. But 6 months later the Union would control Tampa and the Civil War. My plan was to ride my old bike home but I decided to motor on to a bike event in Apollo Beach. Riding up US 41 through the palmettos and pines cold and very wet. I had the feeling that I wanted to thank our military personnel , of all the wars for enduring what they do and the sacrifi ces they make in deserts, jungles, the sea and to some on a faraway beach in Tampa, Florida. I arrived at my town / bike event and had a grand time for I felt my ride had a bit more meaning than some that were there. But Dutch and I had to battle on, through the rain and wind and on to the skyway. It only took a few miles before I was thinking about that hot coff ee and warm food I had, of talking with great friends and of that pretty little pig tailed girl I met.I also thought of returning home to hot water and a soft bed it had been a long day on the motorbike.I wondered how many of those men on that beach in Ballast point on Oct. 18th.1863 had the same thoughts. As General William Tecumseh Sherman said...........War is Hell. Mr.451 Dedicated to John De Moss Company D, Fifty First Ohio Volunteer Infantry

I stopped into Time Line Tattoo, a new shop that recently opened up. It wasn’t what I had expected. The place looked like something out of the 1920’s and had a REAL old school feel to it. I figured it would be a good time to sit and talk with the guys. I wanted to find out a little more about the shop and artists (as anyone looking for a tattoo should) and spoke with Dan (owner/artist), and his crew Brian (piercer), Andrew (artist), and Sean (artist). Here’s a brief overview of what went on. Dew: So what’s with the old style looking shop? Dan: We wanted to keep with the old ways, tattooing, operation, appearance,…everything. Everyone here has had over a decade of experience in the industry and we felt that tattoos have been becoming more and more of a gimmick. Everywhere you turn you see another cookie cutter tattoo shop that’s only interested in what’s trendy or turning into some kind of franchise. That’s not what tattoos are and that sure as hell isn’t what the industry is about. Dew: What make you guys different from the next guy? Dan: We all have a very high respect for tattooing as an art and feel it was necessary to open a shop like this. We all dedicate ourselves towards doing high quality work for people who are serious about what they are putting on themselves for the rest of their life. Time Line operates on the basis that everyone who walks through the doors looking for a tattoo or piercing, should be treated with respect and what they want done to be taken seriously. Tattoos are an expression of who you are and what you have accomplished in life. I am trying to keep it that way. Dew: Do you plan to do anything else with the shop? Dan: We are going to be hosting a lot of fund raising events in the near future. Car shows, poker runs, food and beer events with music, art shows….. We have a lot planned. We are also going to set up an employment board at the shop. How it work is if anyone comes in who owns or manages a company and is looking for work, we put your contact info up with the position available. Anybody who comes in and needs a job or anyone in their family needs a job….we set it up to get your foot in the door and hopefully a job. We just want to help out however we can because it’s the people around us that keep us in business. Why shouldn’t we return the favor? I’m happy I did stop in and talk to the guys. They knew what they were talking about and are very serious about what they do. The tattoos I saw were really nice, clean and solid and the shop was spotless. I would definitely recommend going to check them out.

The Bare Buns Bikers held a rally last month in Land O Lakes. Myself and Dew from Full Throttle were in attendance. Wow did we enjoy it. The hospitality was great as always. There will be another event to be held in Florida at Cypress Cove in Kissimmee, FL as well as other events throughout the USA. Check www.barebunsbikers.com. Keep up the good work BG and all the others that make these events great and also donate money to the veteran’s home in Land O' Lakes. Everyone knows I like swap meets there is a new one. 1st Annual Southern National meet at Denton Farm Park Denton NC May 14-16 for information call 417-838-4777 the Antique Motorcycle Club always has good meets! I will tell you a story
about a biker that had a broken zipper on his mc jacket it was a cold night so he put it on backwards to keep his chest warm in the wind a car pulled out in front of him and he went down a lady stopped to help and when the EMS crew got there he wasn’t moving they asked the lady what she knew and she said he was talking but she turned his head around right and he quit talking and hasn’t moved since. So if your zipper is broken fix it don’t wear your jacket backwards! Here's another story about a biker with a long black coat on he walked up to three old, kind of feeble, ladies sitting on a bench in front of a old folks home and opened up the coat and was nude. Two of the ladies had a stroke, but the third one was to far away and couldn't reach. See you soon Sunny Lane XXX

The current economic climate has deeply affected every retail industry in the country, and powersports is no exception. Powersports dealers across the country have seen a decrease in sales compared to the same time last year, and many dealers are still looking for the light at the end of the tunnel. The coming months will prove to be “make it or break it” for many dealers hoping that the warming months will bring customers back to the showrooms with money to spend on parts, accessories, and new units. The success for most dealers will hinge on the effectiveness of their online marketing efforts to drive more customers into the showroom. Dealership websites, and online portals such as Cycle Trader have been instrumental in delivering a showroom to consumers homes allowing them to view units, ask questions, and compare pricing before ever setting foot in the dealership. However, a new player is emerging in the search for new customers. Craigslist. Craigslist boasts over 10 million unique visitors each month and is currently ranked as the 7th most visited website in the United States, but best of all Craigslist is free. Auto dealers started using craigslist a few years ago and began posting their lower priced cars just to get them off the lot without having to pay to list them on sites such as AutoTrader or Cars.com. At the time this article was written, Google reported over 1 million cars and trucks posted by auto dealers. With that kind of volume, it’s no surprise that some dealers are reporting craigslist as their number one source of leads. Craigslist allows users to type out a basic description, upload a maximum of 4 pictures, and post an ad from 7 to 30 days depending on the city for free. The process takes a few minutes per unit, and can be a bit tedious on their site, but you really can’t beat the cost. But will it work for powersports? St. Pete Powersports is a dealership right here in Florida who carries multiple lines of motorcycles, ATVs, and watercraft and are for all practical intents and purposes an
accurate representation of a powersports dealer. At the beginning of March they got a call from a company called LotVantage who provides a craigslist inventory management system for dealers. Donny, the general manager, gave the project a green light and they were posting bikes the next day. Their entire inventory was up on craigslist within a few days, and the phone started ringing. “We’re pretty good about asking where someone saw the bike when they call” said Donny. “I was surprised, but we had people calling about the craigslist bikes on the same day we posted them” he continued. The real surprise came at month end when Donny was looking over the numbers and comparing how craigslist and LotVantage stacked up. St. Powersports had received over 300 calls from the inventory posted on craigslist, and broke his previous sales record by a whopping 14 bikes. The Verdict. Donny claims that he didn’t change anything from February to March other than using LotVantage for craigslist, and acknowledges that he can’t attribute every one of those 14 sales to craigslist, but he is going to keep using both craigslist and Lot Vantage in April. “I’d be a fool if I didn’t stick with something that had a positive impact on the bottom line” said Donny. Now, not every dealer should expect the results that St. Pete Powersports saw, but craigslist’s popularity can’t be ignored. In fact, according to Alexa.com, craigslist is the 3rd most visited site by people after they leave cycletrader.com. The bottom line is that whether you try craigslist on your own, or with a specialized software like LotVantage the way St. Pete Powersports did, you owe it to your bottom line to try it for 30 days for yourself. “Flying Shelby”
By Night Train
It was Sunday April 11th 2010 when Alex from www.solarephoto.com and I were coming back from a scheduled assignment and decided we had not seen enough engines and wheels so we stopped at the “Sunshine Drag Strip” www.sunshinedragstrip.com in Clearwater FL just for fun. To our pleasant surprise we heard the roaring engines of motocross racing so we proceeded and introduced ourselves to the most welcoming people; “Florida Vintage Motocross Association” www.flvmx. com . These folks rolled out the red carpet and allowed us full access anywhere we wanted so we went ahead and picked a spot right in the middle of the track while bikes and dirt were flying all over the place. Man what a blast that was. Giving thumbs up to each other Alex and I knew we struck a good little story potential and we offer you the one I chose to call “Flying Shelby”. Daughter of Gifford Quast (#63 bike in picture), Shelby is 15 years of age and has been riding for 8 years now. Both daughter and father practice every single week. Dad has been at it for 35 years. I spotted them both on the track just battling it out making each other eat dirt off their wheels. From what I could see, dad was chewing more dirt from Shelby than her from him! This girl was having a good time and you could tell. I saw her jump with the speed and agility of a gazelle and with the attitude of a predator focusing on a prey. Went to their pit after Shelby’s win over her dad and chatted a little. Shelby says she is taking it seriously but has not put much thought into going pro. With mud on his face from Shelby still, Dad on the other hand was quick to point out Shelby was just a few notch short of going to next step. Keep having fun Shelby! As for me and my girls it will be horse power yes of course but add to that; fire power, blade handling and some kick testosterones in the nuts skills! Really glad we stopped by there. What a good time. Photos by Alex at www.solarephoto.com Copyright©
Festivals of Speed 2010
By Night Train If you have an insatiable hunger for anything and everything refined that has horse power and whatever bag comes with it, “Festivals of Speed” www.festivalsofspeed.com is most undoubtedly the place to go. If you have a business of products and/or services you feel is worthy of the exclusive discriminating demographic this organization caters to, then it would be shortsighted not to investigate the opportunities it offers and participate. A good friend of mine who builds eccentric vehicles for $50K a piece sold two of them within 24hrs at that very event and I can tell you he will be there again. Even our friends from “Euro Cycles of Tampa Bay” www. bmwrides.com were there. Founder Joe Sabatini and I struck a conversation during the event. The organization’s charity of choice for St Petersburg, FL is “Big Brother Big Sister”. The event offers access to high-end luxury vehicles from jets, to yachts, cars and bikes all in one package. This past April 2010 the event took the entire North Straub Park in St Petersburg, FL and there were things to see for all. Batman’s original car, hot rods, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche, Lotus, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, Jaguar, BMW, Campagna T-Rex, Ducati and Bimota bikes, F1s and the list goes on. From what I am told, when Festivals of Speed is on, it has the highest ratings in the nation with Speed Vision. Next event is October 23rd to 25th 2010 in Orlando at the lavish Ritz Carlton Hotel and then at the exclusive Viceroy Hotel in Miami, November 14th and 15th 2010. Can we lowly “Full Throttle Magazine” get another couple of presspasses with free sandwiches and beer(s) for each event please? Photos by Alex of www.solarephoto.com Copyrights©

HARD ROCK BIKER BASH The weather was beautiful and the bikes started pouring in like water at the annual Hard Rock Casino Biker Bash. Radical Randy MC’D this great event and also hosted the bike show and poker walk with great prizes for each. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. This event is held in the back parking lot and around the world famous Hard Rock Pool. Vendors were set up all over, the bars were packed and I even saw a few bikers inside trying to win some green for their next bike purchase! Thanks to Nikki and Randy for everything and having Full Throttle involved with this event for the first time ever. We are definitely looking forward to this again next year! Tony C
PENNIES FOR EVAN RUN On a March 28th a great bike organization (Florida West Coast Riders) and a great local business (Troy and Biff Burgers) and 80 or so of us, braved the rain and occasional lightning bolt to do something for a wonderful little boy and his great family.Although the rain kept it small, the hearts were big as $2600 was raised (Biff Burgers own Troy M. was lead bidder on many items, thanks Troy!) I met Evan Booth, his parents, his brother and talked with his grandfather who told me Evan had a massive stroke at age 2, but what would tear most families apart brought this one closer together and it showed. The Florida West Coast Riders put a great auction togather,a great bike show and despite the weather a first class event. The Nam Knights of America Motorcycle Club is a group of men who were looking for the brotherhood, like they shared in Viet Nam. The Club was founded in 1989, in New Jersey by Jack Quigley, a now retired Undersheriff. Today the NKMC has grown into an organization that spans the east coast from New Hampshire to Florida and two chapters in Canada of 43 chapters, with hundreds of members made up of veteran's of all eras as well as law enforcement personnel plus a few special and dedicated "patriots." These men loved riding their Harley's and they are all driven by the same ideals that started it all: Brotherhood and service to our communities. Andy 'Pappy" Huber is the President of our local Nam Knights Motorcycle Club Westside Chapter in Valrico, Florida. Their Chapter works hard to keep the needs of our Veterans & Police Officers in the forefront of our community. "Pappy" leads a great bunch of men and says it is truly an HONOR!!! Their mission is to honor the memory of American Vets & Police Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, to assist them in their time of need and to promote community awareness through sponsorship, participation in various community and fund-raising events. On April 10, the NK Westside Chapter hosted their 4th Annual Pig Roast at the Pole Barn, in Riverview to benefit the Haley House. The Haley House provides living arrangements for families to spend needed time with recovering current duty injured and veterans. The NKMC continues to grow and thrive due to the extraordinary dedication of its members, their families and our benevolent supporters. "Pappy" wanted to express his sincere thanks to everyone for making the 4th Annual Pig Roast a great success! They were blessed with perfect weather, great food, cold beer, great vendors, numerous family members, friends, supporters, and Brothers from all over the country. The NKMC would like to shout out a special thanks to WQYK, Randy and Dave for giving them the opportunity to get the word out as well as attending and a special thanks to their Lady Knights, for all their love and support! Entertainment was great with performances of 4 live bands, the Country Dance World Champion Chilli Chicks and Coyote Ugly ladies of Ybor. They appreciate each and every ones support for this great cause, and looking forward to seeing all of you at the 5th Annual Pig Roast April 2011! It was my pleasure to have met Steve Mona - "Slider" the Secretary of the NKMC Parent Chapter in NJ, who was in town to show his support to his Brothers for the event! Thanks NKMC & Keep up the great work of giving back to our community! Knights Forever, Forever Knights...For more information please visit their website at www.namknightswestside.com
David killed Goliath but he certainly did not kill Goliath’s ride. At least that is what I thought when I was walking the streets of New Port Richey in Florida last year during the annual Cotee River Bike Fest ( www.coteeriverbikefest.com ). As I was walking, I saw this massive, imposing, unrepentant and mean looking machine bearing the name of “V8 Choppers” of www.v8choppers.com. It got my attention right away and as I discovered its features I decided to pursue the man responsible behind this visionary and awesome build: Stan Hughes. Everyone should know by now if they are familiar with my column that I have been focusing on offering our readers insights on the private lives of celebrity builders. Stan Hughes and his class act spouse (Shelley) are far from being, behaving, thinking, speaking or pretending to be celebrities in their own minds or with anyone they interact with. They don’t make them more down to earth and genuine than these two. Speak with any of their clients and you will receive the most amazing feedback about how Stan takes care of his clients. To prove it, here was his response to my request to feature him and V8 Choppers: “I am both flattered and impressed that you have an interest. Flattered because I’m just a farm boy from Oklahoma, impressed because you will be stepping outside the holy grail of motorcycling when you talk about V8 powered bikes.” Stepping outside of any holy grail is always a motivating temptation to me especially when it is about challenging folks to get out of the box. It was shortly before Daytona bike week 2010 that Stan and I got in touch and agreed not only to meet but to break the ice by going on a test ride together. When I told my Editor, Tony, that I was scheduled to test ride a V8 Chopper and that he was welcome to come along, I did not have to do a whole lot of arm twisting. Stan, Tony, myself and two of Stan’s clients, each with a 520+ hp V8 Chopper left for a joy ride I will never forget in my life. Going north on I-95, we were like a mad freight train plowing through caged four wheelers. Once we got to Main Street, I boldly decided to veer towards the far and distant oncoming traffic, stopped the bike, encouraged my cohorts to line up beside me. I wanted to see the shock value and reaction of people in the street when the five of us equaling 2600 hp would rev our bikes loud and fast for a moment. It was so brutally loud and powerful that I think you could see the front windows of the nearby stores rattling a little. For a split few seconds people knew there was a spontaneous show being put on and as they looked at our steel horses their amazement was obvious. After this split moment of self generated feeble fame, we worked our way back to our point of origin and I could not
take the smile off my face. If I could only have one of those in my garage! These two wheeled war machines are hard tails but don’t be fooled, after riding one I can testify that it is surprisingly comfortable. These bikes are obviously extremely powerful. They are not for the faint of heart. They are for the experienced, confident male or female rider. The bike is built in a way which makes its 980 pounds surprisingly easy to maneuver and handle even for a shorter and not as physically strong rider. The bike is stable and steady whether you are at low or high speed. I am 6 foot tall and 200 pounds. To me, comfort comes first and then performance is close behind. The ergonomics of the bike were perfect for my build. It handles curves better than the majority of choppers I test rode. I could easily cross the country with this machine. In fact, Lord willing one day I will with my wife by my side. If you want to make a statement with a bike at a reasonable price, I would strongly encourage you to look at V8 Choppers. Both Stan and Shelley were born in Miami, Oklahoma in the 1960s. Stan has three older sisters. Mom was a stay-at-home mom. Dad (his role model) had a dairy farm and was working part-time in construction. He will be 80 years old in May 2010 (happy birthday dad!). Stan and Shelley got married on June 11, 1983. At the time, Stan was the milkman delivering milk at Shelley’s house. “There was nothing I did not like about her and still to this day” said Stan. I guess that would explain why he proposed on their second date. If you met Shelley, you would understand why Stan was and is still so fond of her. Today they have two beautiful grown-up children and both ride. Stan wants to be remembered as the one of the good guys. One who goes the extra mile. He started by working for another motorcycle manufacturer. He also had a very successful insurance business and sold it all to apply his business skills in his own motorcycle manufacturing business. Stan is doing quite well at it. The Daytona bike week 2010 was his best Daytona bike week in terms of sales in about 5 to 6 years. There will be a new touring trike for two passengers available in the market soon from V8 choppers. In Florida, you can look up Steve’s Cycles Inc. www.stevescyclesinc.com for more details and for some impressive footage. One of the funniest riding experiences Shelley recalls was when Stan had just delivered a bike to a new client. They both proceeded to go for a little ride together. Stopped at a traffic light unaware his new valued client was very close behind him, Stan
proceeded by twisting the throttle full fledge and displaying a lengthy stationery and loud burnout for his client to see. Problem is, the client was so close behind him that pieces of rubber had flown directly onto his bike as well as his face. That burnout made a clear and defined vertical stripe as if both, client and bike were split in two. The client’s goggles were covered with black rubber. He stared at Stan smiling and said “you will be washing my bike”. Stan was glad to wash the bike. Stan’s most important value in life is “faith, because without faith you cannot please God”. Stan believes that authentic genuine faith is more often “seen” rather than “heard” and so he respectfully declined the opportunity to expand on the topic. When it comes to good or evil in art, Stan believes that art has the power to directly or indirectly influence the human mind for good or evil. Stan thinks that art is an extension of ourselves and what we think or feel. In
Stan believes his marriage taught him patience, love and respect. As for Shelley, she feels marriage taught her to be more sacrificial and sharing. What is your definition of marriage? “Marriage is for a man and a woman” they respectfully responded. How much has fatherhood taught you Stan? “How much I did not know”. How much has motherhood taught you Shelley? “A bond you will never find elsewhere”. Mandatory military service? “Not for it unless necessary to maintain our freedom”. Death penalty? “It is of use and a huge deterrent”. Assisted suicide? “Not our place to say one’s life is over”. Suicide? “Stupid and selfish”. Is abortion a life for a choice? “I don’t believe in it unless it is to spare the life of a mother”. The purpose of a man’s existence? “To understand he [man] is here for everyone else except himself”.
V T e 2 a a r b w
Comment on the following: “Society at large can’t make up its mind about man. Having spent the last 30 years redefining masculinity into something more sensitive, safe, manageable and, well, feminine, it now berates man for not being man.” by John Elderidge - Wild at Heart, Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul. Stan: “Men should be men. Boys can’t even protect their mothers name and reputation in school yards anymore but then they are expected to fight in Iraq.”
Stan’s mind, “good” is not boastful and it considers others while “evil” takes, is not considerate and is self-centered. Is there life after death? “Definitely. If this is all we had now than I would be more fearful”.
To sum it all up, Stan is a good ol’ grass roots kind of guy. Uncomplicated. Stan knows where he stands and where he is going. If David being a little boy, shepherding in the country and killed Goliath, then he probably took Goliath’s ride with him and tamed it! Remember how the story goes? David became King against all odds.
N “ a (
I think Stan comes from the same kind of bloodline; faithful and fearless, he beat the odds. He has built a successful business with sheer determination. Like David, he mastered skills that brought him to a level only a few will be privileged to reach one day and I am not only speaking of motorcycle building here.

The handgun would not be my choice of weapon if I knew I was going to fight, I’d choose a rifle, a shotgun, an RPG or an atomic bomb. The two most important rules in a gunfight are always cheat and always win! Don’t forget, incoming fire has the right of way. Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun but he’s going to have to beat me to death with it, because it’s going to be empty. If you’re not shooting, you should be loading, if your not loading you should be moving, if you’re not moving, do something, it may be wrong but do something. Shoot what’s available, as long as it’s available, until something else becomes available. If you carry a gun, people will call
you paranoid. That’s ridiculous, if I have a gun, what in the hell do I have to be paranoid about? You have the rest of your life to solve your problems, how long you live depends on how well you do it. You cannot save the planet; you may be able to save yourself and your family. The only purpose of fighting is to win….there is no victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. Don’t pick a fight with an old man, if he’s too old to fight, he’ll just kill you. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck. I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away. I received this on my e-mail and was asked, if I believe in the 2nd Amendment to please forward. I JUST DID! Goodnight Rambo wherever you are. New Technology can S*** This month I was at the AIDS-HIV Awareness run on Saturday as it started at Recycled Cycle and ended at Cotee River Lounge. Then the Leathernecks party on a rainy Sunday. I had some great pictures of both events. All the ones of the HIV awareness and half of the Leathernecks were on one memory chip. The one chip that was in my camera that all at once came up, THIS MEMORY CHIP NEEDS TO BE REFORMATED. When you reformat the chip. You lose everything on the memory chip. So now with the dead line here, I don’t have time to find someone that can retrieve the pictures. I’ll try to do another write up when I have the pictures to go with it. For now, I do have pictures of the First Annual Chili Cook Off at the Cotee River Lounge in Port Richey. Nice turn out for the first one. I had some of the mild ones. The white chili with chicken won. It got my vote. 1st place – Chonk. 2nd place – Dianne. 3rd place – Dave. Thanks to all the cooks and the Cotee River Staff. I had a great time at the Port Hole Pub, both the Grand Open and the Bike Nights. You need to make it to the Monday night Bike Night. Funny Fun in more ways than one. I know I’m forgetting something, but it’s late and the boss is looking for my work. Here are the pictures I do have. Ride Safe and look out for the bad drivers. The Big “O”

Where to begin, we had such a busy month. Spent some quality time with both of our parents on a trip to St. Augustine. We did a lot of the touristy stuff like the ghost tour, walked through the shops, had some really good ice cream, which wasn’t on my diet but definitely worth every bit. We had such a good time that we all booked a cruise together for the week of Thanksgiving. (Can’t wait). We went on the Relay for Life poker run down in Port Charlotte. It started and ended at the Looney Bin. They had lots of great auction and raffle items. We didn’t win anything but had a great time, after we met up with some old friends and had a crazy time dancing on the bar at Crazy Teds, swinging on the stripper pole at Hoosiers bar and dancing in the cage at Wills Honkytonk SRQ. Glad we finally got to hangout and ride with them, oh and happy birthday Jerome. We unfortunately didn’t make it to Will’s HonkytonkEnglewood, for their 6th anniversary party. Hope it was a good turn out and that fun was had by all. Bradenton area had a big Breast Cancer run for Cheryl Rankin Dwinnell. There was a fantastic turn out for the event. Greg Billings along with several other bands rocked the house. We would like to wish Cheryl all the best; you can beat this monster girl! Kayaking with the boys was how we spent the next Saturday afternoon. I have to say I thought it was going to be easier than it was. Maybe the whitecaps we were rowing into had something to do with our soar arms and chest the next day. I think we have decided to stick with motorized toys. That night we went out to the Desoto Drag strip with friends, but the rain came and the drag bikes didn’t get to run. We were a bit disappointed, maybe next time. We just got back from Leesburg 2 hours ago; it was the 1st time we had made it up there. We stayed with our friends John and Theresa in their camper/toy
hauler at a nice campground. We met a lot of people at the all night pool, speaking of, Mark and Kelly if you are reading this, give us a call so we can get together and ride sometime. It was too hot for a campfire so no smores : ( Saturday we were out in the country ( about 30 miles from Leesburg) on a nice ride when the Glide blew a tire. We were so lucky it happened at a stop sign and not while we were going down the highway. It put a little kink in the day but a BIG thanks to the really nice staff in the service department at Gator Harley for quickly getting us back on the road. Check out the cruising calendar for upcoming events and rides and we hope to see you out there! Don’t forget if you have upcoming events email us the info and we will get them in the cruising calendar, or if you would like to advertising your business give us a call 941-5048297 or email us at ridefullthrottle@live.com Until next month be safe and have fun! An elderly gentleman had serious hearing problems for a number of years. at least they have money President and wife Michelle Obama reported income of $5.5-million on their 2009 income tax return. That didn’t include the $1.4-million awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize he won as that money was transferred directly to charity. Most of the earnings came from book royalties. Wow ... that’s not a bad year’s work!
A Standing “O” vechkin Part Two of my predictions revolves around the sporting world ... The Orlando Magic will play the LA Lakers in the NBA Finals with Dwight Howard leading the Magic to the NBA crown. The East Finals between the Cleveland Cavs and Magic will be hard fought, but Superman will outfight King James. In the West, Kobe Bryant (despite a broken finger, sore knee and bum ankle) will lead the Lakers to the finals , but I also like San Antonio.... On the ice look for The Washington Capitals to defeat the San Jose Sharks and take the Stanley Cup to our nation’s capital. Alex Ovechkin is simply amazing!
Cirque du ..... “Who?” First it was The Beatles, then it was Elvis .... now Michael Jackson’s music will be used by the acrobatic troupe Cirque du Soleil. The group will put on a live touring show starting next year followed by a permanent production in Las Vegas in 2012. Cirque and Jackson’s estate will split revenues 50%-50%.
It’s baby makin’ time Things are going great at the Lowry Park Zoo as there were three new babies born last month. Two were baby Grevy Zebras - the first of their kind to be born at the Tampa Zoo. A Southern White Rhinoceros was also born and was also the first of that species to be born at Lowry Park. At press times, the babies did not have names but they are adorable!
it’s up in the air for now Talks are underway between United Airlines and Continental Airlines that could lead to a merger that would create the world’s biggest airline. United had been talking to US Airways but those talks stalled.
What a Heartbreaker Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were scheduled to play at the St.Pete Times Forum on May 9 but the concert was postponed until September 16. The group moved ten of their shows due to delays in the release of their new studio album, Mojo, which is now set for June 5th. No word if Joe Cocker will still be the opening act. If you purchased tickets they can either be used on September 16 or returned for a refund at point of purchase.
and the winner is... It’s time for me to give my television reality show predictions! Yes, “Paulie the Psychic” predicts the following winners .... Crystal Bowersox will win American Idol. The dreadlocked, guitar playing, hippy-like girl is fantastic and will go on to have a great music career .... Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger will dance her way to America’s heart and take home the famed disco-ball trophy on Dancing With the Stars. Olympian Evan Lysacek is good but Nicole can dance and is super good looking .... Amanda is my personal favorite in Survivor (yes, I am a male pig but she is still beautiful even after 30+ days in the jungle with no food or makeup). I want to root for Colby (the old guy) but I just can’t. Russell may be the best contestant ever to play the game, Parvati has too many enemies and Rupert is just, well Rupert. I am predicting Amanda will win the money and then come to Tampa Bay and take me to dinner. (Oh well, I can hope and pray) ... Last (but not least) I like Australian Chef Curtis Stone to win Celebrity Apprentice. I like the way Brett Michaels plays the game, I think Maria Kanellis is ultra-beautiful, I think Sharon Osborne is a tough competitor and Cyndi Lauper just drives me crazy! Look for Chef Curtis to fly under-the-radar and squeak out the win .... For the rest of you “You’re All Fired” !!!!

April 17th, my first morning at the15th Annual Freedom Rights Rally begins. Waking up to the sounds of bikes being ridden through the Monticello KOA campground, familiar “hey, great seeing you, how ya been?” greetings, and the smell of eggs and bacon mixed with campfires is always a fond waking of the senses. Of course, bikers walking by our campsite with quizzical expressions looking over and seeing me typing away on my laptop is kind of humorous, but they’ll understand better as they read this in the magazine. Chatting with Scribe on the 7 hour drive up and later hanging out with friends that I only see every two months, combined with the common goals ABATE of Florida, Inc. members have had me thinking about how effective a well organized Motorcyclist Rights Organization (MRO) can be when it comes to exerting influence on our elected officials. Take our own state for example. In Florida, our Legislators are now in session for two months. Knowing this, ABATE of Florida, Inc. organizes our annual Freedom Rights Rally around this time each year. Most of you know about the hundreds of motorcyclists that ride to the state Capitol building for our rally on the rotunda. Afterwards, we go into the Capitol and meet with our elected officials. In years past, ABATE of Florida’s State President has led our ride from the Monticello KOA to the Florida State Capitol building and continued by leading the ceremonies before we head inside. What’s going to make this year different is while we’re outside tolling the bell honoring those that have passed before us and letting the public know why we’re at the Capitol, our “Stiffer Penalties” Bill SB1918 will be being heard in its first Senate Committee Hearing. ABATE of Florida’s President & State Legislative Trustee will be testifying for passage of our Bill at the exact same time we are rallying for motorcyclists’ rights just outside the same building. If ABATE of Florida’s members were not committed to our causes, if our 32 chapters were not pushing for our issues on the local level, and if the State Board of Directors were not working so well with each other towards a common goal, many of our victories would not be possible. These are signs of a wellorganized Motorcyclist Rights Organization. Getting the law changed so motorcyclists have the choice to wear a helmet, have a choice how high their handlebars are, and have the option to get the “Bikers Care” motorcycle tag; at the same time helping fund many charities; are all signs of the influence ABATE of Florida members have. The fact that Doc Reichenbach, our State President, is on a first name basis with almost every elected official in Tallahassee is a sign of how ABATE of Florida’s members affect the outcome of elections. When you’re asked what “influence” is, direct the person to the accomplishments of ABATE of Florida and other MROs across the United States of America. Well organized MROs are not only a Brotherhood and Sisterhood, we’re the protectors of motorcyclists’ rights. Dave “Lockdown” Rich State PR/Communications Trustee, ABATE of Florida, Inc. I can’t believe March is over and April is waning as well. Warm weather is here and the bikers are out in abundance. While you’re out there cruising around, check out Angel’s Diner in Palatka. Now I’m not a food connoisseur in any way shape or form, but I know a good burger when I taste it. If you’re like me and are tired of those flat, frozen, hockey puck burgers, Angel’s Diner is right up there on my list of places to stop. They have real, hand-pattied burgers starting with a ¼ pound and going up to the manly burger of a whopping 1 pound (That’s ONE POUND)! Now that’s something you can sink your teeth into! Burgers aren’t the only thing on the menu. Are you hungry for breakfast? They have that. Do you want something different? They have frog legs, clams and several other choices if breakfast or burgers are not what your taste buds want. Angel’s also has shakes to compliment any burger or sandwich you might choose. Oh, and don’t forget to try their onion rings. They are almost a meal in themselves! Angel’s is in the top ten of oldest and firsts in Florida, and if you’re looking for something to fill you up, Angel’s is the place and don’t forget to tell them, “Uncle Buck from Florida’s Full Throttle Magazine,” sent you! Angel's Diner 209 Reid Street Palatka, FL 32177 386-325-3927 Always remember, ride safe! See you next month with more burger choices.
