SIMPLICITY meets

PASSION

TONY LIEN PORTFOLIO 2015

Simplicity isn’t just about being simple. It is a process to reduce complexity. “Simplicity makes life simpler ” “From complexity come stress, anxiety and frustration.” The comparison makes clear that complexity brings negative influences to spiritual development and will affect physical progress as well. Complex information is very difficult to digest; there is no way for the human brain to learn. Meanwhile, a complex situation sometimes leads to negative emotions in our body. When we are being over passionate with the subject, it might lead to complex and hard for others to understand. But if we work with simplicity and follow “The Law of Simplicity*”. There will be a transition in the reducing process, , When we achieve this, the result will lead to happiness. Due to both simplicity and passion are possitive energy, and they both lead to happyness to life.

As a designer, I believe that all thing are interconnected with each other. Every experience in life has the opportunity to spark ideas of brilliance. It is this interconnection that forms the basis of my designs, which I build on with deeper thought. Aesthetics are part of the core fundamentals of my vision, while logical thinking structures the shape of the idea.

MA DEGREE PROJECT

STRADIVARIUS

A Stradivarius is one of the violins, violas, cellos and other string instruments built by members of the Stradivari (Stradivarius) family, particularly Antonio Stradivari, during the 17th and 18th centuries. According to their reputation, the quality of their sound has defied attempts to explain or equal it, though this belief is disputed. The name “Stradivarius” has become a superlative often associated with excellence; to be called “the Stradivari” of any field is to be deemed the finest there is.

Praeludium and Praeludium and Allegro

Allegro

< I > Draw down the Movement

Music is a source of inspiration and expression, “ Prelude and Allegro“ is one piece of music which has inspired me greatly during my life. I learned to play the viloin at the age of 7. I visualized my pen as the bow of a violin and documented each movement as the music progressed. During the composition it was important for me to foucus on the passion of the piece, to do this I had to go into a deep state of mind. The aim is to use this method to develop a new styling aesthetic.

Violin bow’s Movement. -Light track

Friedrich “Fritz” Kreisler (February 2, 1875 – January 29, 1962) was an Austrian-born violinist and composer. One of the most famous violin masters of his or any other day, and regarded as one of the greatest violinists of all time, he was known for his sweet tone and expressive phrasing. Like many great violinists of his generation, he produced a characteristic sound which was immediately recognizable as his own.

MA Degree Project

Inspiration Sir Henry Ralph Stanley "Tim" Birkin, 3rd Baronet (26 July 1896 – 22 June 1933) was a British racing driver, one of the "Bentley Boys" of the 1920s.

< II > Sculpting the Music

The FIrst stage of the design was inspired by the Bow Movement. The Second stage, was to focus on the [ LEFT HAND] which represent the pitch and precision. By using the plaster technique, it helped me to sculpte the shape and record down the emotion while playing the violin.

< III > Reconstruct // Amalgamate

For the next stage of the process, I used the study of the bow movement and finger pressvure to reconstruct key sketches using the combination of wires and plasters. The wires represent the movements of the bow, while the plaster represents the pressure formed through the fingers of the violinst. The whole idea is to emphasise the elegance and aesthetics of a violin performance.

The prototype of modern automobile design and the first car which had been constructed and executed as a sculptural whole. The combination of a stunning aerodynamic body with the engine behind the central driver’s seat, on the most advanced chassis of its time makes this Alfa Romeo unique in the history of automobiles. This special version of an Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 belonged to a secret project by Vittorio Jano and the brothers Jankovits. The Aerospider represents - The first supercar of “modern” sports car design. - The first mid-engined car with central driving position in the history of automobiles designed to keep the centre of gravity in the middle of the car - 60 years ahead of the McLaren F1

WAVE

Deep tube train interio The sound wave of the train is unique and special as the sound from the rail and the train. As the major issue in the tube, crowded and vision pressure does effected to people’s feeling, and SPACE ISSUE NATURE decrease the joy of taking the tube. The “Wave”, train interior design’s idea was inspire by the sound wave and visualize it, and enhancing the happiness for the journey on train. To increase the pleasure, figuring out the nature elements such as light and sound can lead our experience to be free of joy, as we are in the nature forest. Using several recessed lights with dimmer and changing the colour will give the carriage with different atmospheres. Then set the lights behind the flow board on the roof will make the space seem taller and wider. As all the design is surround by the wave of the sound.

ZYNGO

Power Breaker EV 2+2 TARGET GROUP

ZynGo, a consortium of engineers, academics and marketors, has a radical mobility solution, eco-friendly from well to wheel, with sustainable materials/manufacture, and local assembly. The market is middle-income urban young family motorist; firsttime single or couple t *OTJEF 0VU o TQPSUT DBSJOcome local mobility. Our task is to design individually or in pairs a sustainable EV, not an electric ICE vehicle, using clean or recyclable materials, which has potentially iconic ‘mini’ appeal to a young market, and can be assembled quickly. Use the ZynGo specified lightweight aluminium platform, rearwheel drive powertrain, below floor batteries. Finally, include scaled technical drawings (at least side and top elevations) with renderings, to demonstrate how the design connects with the ZynGo platform and powertrain, and how it assembles.

Porsche 944 GT Brief Searching the New segment of a new 2+2, grand touring vehicle of Porsche. I start a research of its historical 944, cayman, 911 to study the Porsche DNA. Then go through its racing element and elegant form styling. To maintain the beautiful volume of the surface ant its iconic front fender. In addition, we also set the target group on the 50-60 years group as major. For them to enjoy truly Porsche driving experience. Concept Challenging a single surface into separate front, middle and rear to enhance the graphical tension of power but keep the same theme. Then combine front fender with rear mirror is the main concept.
