Bhikkhu Bodhi is an American Buddhist monk and leading P›li language scholar, renowned for his systematic and elegant translations of Buddhist scriptures. Born and raised in new york City, he studied at Brooklyn College and Claremont Graduate University. After completing his studies he traveled to Sri Lanka, where he received ordination in 1973, under the late Ven. Ananda Maitreya, the leading Sri Lankan scholar-monk of recent times. There he was appointed editor and later president for the Buddhist Publication Society in Sri Lanka. He returned to the U.S. in 2002 and currently resides at Chuang yen Monastery in Carmel, new york, and is in demand worldwide as a translator, speaker, and Buddhist teacher.
