About this match programme
By Richard Snowball Following York City's superb victory at Blackpool in the 3rd round of the F.A.Cup, they were drawn away to Bishop Auckland in the 4th Round. Bishop Auckland were one of the top amateur sides at the time and had been finalists in the F.A. Amateur Cup four times in the previous ten years. Their side also contained some England amateur international players including captain Ron Hardisty. The "Bishops" had a good win in the 3rd Round, drawing 2-2 away at Ipswich and winning the replay 3-0, so a tough match was expected. However, York turned on the style again and ran out winners 3-1 with Arthur Bottom scoring twice to take his tally in the F.A. Cup so far to six goals. The crowd was an estimated 15,000.
