About this match programme
By Richard Snowball Following their Wembley play-off win the previous season, York City were having a good 1993-94 season in Division Two (the old Division Three following the formation of the Premier League and re-numbering of the other three Divisions). On Easter Monday April 4, 1994, the visitors were Blackpool who after a reasonable start had dropped away and were struggling in the bottom half of the League. Over the Christmas period, York had gone to Blackpool and had pulled off an impressive 5-0 victory, which was their biggest ever away win in the Football League. Astonishingly York went to Blackpool the following season and again won 5-0. York had won their last six home matches and were sitting in a play-off position coming into this game. They put on another good performance and won 2-1 with goals from Steve Bushell and Ian Blackstone in front of a holiday crowd of 5,740. York maintained their form and for the second season running made the play-offs, but, unfortunately, they lost to Stockport County 1-0 in the semi-final away leg after a 0-0 draw at Bootham Crescent. For the second season running Paul Barnes was top goal scorer on 24 from 42 games and voted Clubman of the Year. The average attendance of 4,633 was the highest for nine years.
