This match was played on September 16, 1957 against Carlisle United and resulted in York City's biggest ever home defeat by 5-0. The final score was partly due to an injury to goalkeeper Tommy Forgan and Arthur Bottom being sent off, meaning York finished the match with only nine men. A crowd of 6,711 watched the game.

The programme notes show the clubs accounts for the year ending June 30, 1957 (covering the season 1956-57) and show that the club was run on a very efficient basis to keep it on an even keel. A profit of £608 may not seem a lot nowadays, but in 1957 it was a substantial amount, and the directors’ report points out it was becoming increasingly difficult due to increasing costs.

The profit was only attained by a large donation from the Auxiliary Supporters Club of £12,613, who over the years since 1922 had donated a huge amount of money and volunteers’ time in helping the club to stay stable.
