About this match programme

By Richard Snowball After one season in the new Division Three, York City were relegated to Division Four having finished fourth from the bottom of the league. Sam Bartram, who had been manager for just over four seasons left the club to go to Luton Town. Tom Lockie who had stood in as caretaker manager in the highly successful 1954-55 F.A. Cup semi-final cup run season was appointed manager and strengthened the side with close season signings Walter Bingley, Alan Woods and Jimmy Weir. When this match against Exeter City took place on November 12, 1960, City were lying 5th in the table five points behind leaders Crystal Palace, with Exeter languishing 5th from the bottom of the league. York ran out convincing 6-1 winners of the game with young local player Colin Addison scoring two of the goals. Two months later Addison was sold to Nottingham Forest for a then club record £12,000 just days after City had been knocked out of the F.A. Cup at the 3rd Round stage by Norwich City. Addison made his debut as a 17-year-old in 1957 and scored 31 goals in 97 League and Cup matches over three and a half seasons.
