About this match programme
In 1924, the first game of York City’s season was an extra preliminary round of the FA Cup, a game in which City won 1-0 with the winner scored by Cleasby in front of a crowd of 3,000. In the next round, City were drawn at home to Horsforth, a game they won 7-1 with fullback Lester Marshall converted into a centre forward. He scored five of City’s seven goals, a record for the club until 1928-29 when Jimmy Cowie scored six times in an FA Cup tie against Stockton.
