About this match programme
By Richard Snowball This programme from February 8, 1936 is for the match following York City's biggest ever defeat in the Football League a week earlier, 12-0 at Chester, and two weeks before that they had lost 7-2 away at Accrington. It was likely that City's supporters were fearing the worst for this match against Lincoln City, who were 3rd in the League at the time, but York won the game 2-1. The club notes in this programme describe the atrocious condition of the pitch at Chester, but it appears that the home side played some brilliant football attacking down both wings where the pitch was probably slightly better. At the end of this season City finished in the bottom half of the table having conceded 95 goals, a record that stood until the 1965-66 season when they conceded 106 goals and finished bottom of Division 3.
