About this match programme

By Richard Snowball The interesting story behind this programme of a FA Cup Preliminary Round "replay" is the fact that it was not really a replay as the first game was abandoned after 71 minutes because of a violent thunderstorm with York winning 7-0, so the match should have been played again at Maltby. However the second game was played at York the following Wednesday and this time York won 5-3. Prior to this match York had lost five and drawn one of their League matches only scoring four goals, but then beat Alfreton Town 6-0 in the next League game. York then went on to beat Wombwell and Castleford Town 5-0 and 3-0 in the first and second qualifying round only then to lose 4-1 to Wath Athletic in the third qualifying round. City had a poor season in the League finishing sixth from the bottom conceding 94 goals, but did have the distinction of beating the League winners, Mexborough, 2-1 in both matches against them.
