About this match programme
By Josh Easby After their re-election to Division Four the previous season, York City enjoyed a good start to the 1969-70 season and sat in sixth place when they travelled to Oldham Athletic for a league fixture in November. York City’s home form had been excellent, dropping only three points in the nine games at Bootham Crescent so far. However their form on the road was poor, with two wins from eight fixtures and condeding 18 goals in the process. Oldham won the match 3-1, confirming City’s vulnerability away from Bootham Crescent. However, the City squad was starting to feature names who would form the basis of better sides in the early 1970s – Bobby Sibbald, Ian Davidson, Barry Jackson, Phil Burrows, Phil Boyer, Paul Aimson, Kevin McMahon and Mick Mahon. York finished the season in mid-table; Oldham avoided the re-election places by a couple of league points.
