About this match programme

By Richard Snowball This programme is a dual Easter programme for the Good Friday match against Rochdale and the Reserve team match with Goole Town the following day. The Division Three North match against Rochdale finished 1-1 in front of the crowd of 12,438. The attendances at football matches were at an all-time high following the end of the war and York City's average crowd for the season was 10,412, which still remains a club record. The programme notes talk about the up and coming matches against Rotherham United and Hull City who were battling it out for the League title. City had the distinction of beating both these clubs earlier in the season, Rotherham in the famous 6-1 victory at Bootham Crescent and Hull City 3-2 away at Boothferry Park a week before this featured programme. In the event, York lost both matches, 2-1 away at Rotherham and 3-1 at home to Hull City. The Hull game attracted a Bootham Crescent all-time record League attendance of 21,010, the only higher crowds being in F.A. Cup matches. For the record Hull City won the League by three points from Rotherham, so City's results did not have any effect on the outcome.
