About this match programme By Richard Snowball After five mediocre seasons, York City were having a better one in 1970-71, and coming into the Division Four match again Scunthorpe United played on April 24, 1971, they were still in with a chance of gaining a promotion place. They had lost their previous match at home to promotion rivals Oldham Athletic 1-0 in front of 14,321 at Bootham Crescent. This ended a club record unbeaten run of 16 matches and was also the first home defeat since January 1970, a run of 36 League and Cup games. This put pressure on the Scunthorpe game to gain two vital points, and the players battled hard to gain a 2-0 victory with goals from Paul Aimson and substitue David Chambers (the only League goal he scored for the club). This was Aimson's 26th League goal of the season along with five in the F.A.Cup to make him top goal scorer. A young player in the Scunthorpe side beginning to make his way in the game was one Kevin Keegan. York lost their last two matches of the season, away to Workington (0-1) and second placed Bournemouth (0-4), but still managed to hold on to the fourth promotion place to ahead of Chester.
