About this match programme

In round 2 of their famous 1954-55 FA Cup run, York City were drawn away to Western League club Dorchester Town. The trip required a two-night stay in Bournemouth and the York City players were well entertained by a club excited to be hosting their first match against Football League opposition. The Dorset Regiment Band played ‘On Ilkla Moor Baht ‘at’ while City’s travelling directors were looked after in a specially-erected marquee. City went behind but equalised to send the teams into the break at 1-1. In the second spell, Dorchester’s centre half was injured and became a virtual passenger on the right wing, as substitutes were not available in those days. York took command and won 5-2, spearheaded by a hat-trick from forward Arthur Bottom.
