PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Empowering Education: The Impact of Philanthropic Giving on Our School I am excited to have the opportunity to share with you the remarkable impact of philanthropic giving on our School. As Principal, I have the privilege of witnessing first-hand the profound transformations that occurs when generous hearts unite in support of education and opportunity. Philanthropy, in its many forms, has played an instrumental role in building the School we all enjoy today and in shaping its future as well. Whether it be through the improvement of our infrastructure to provide inspiring spaces for our students to learn and create, the gift of scholarships for those who may be unable to access the opportunities that Toorak provides, or enabling pioneering technological advancements to ensure we continue to stay at the forefront of future-thinking, the contributions of our donors have enriched the educational experience of every student who walks through our doors.

In the pages that follow, you will discover inspiring stories, tangible examples, and quantifiable evidence of how philanthropy has elevated our school’s capabilities, expanded opportunities, and, most importantly, positively impacted the lives of our students and families. It is a testament to the collective belief that education is not merely a transaction but an investment in the potential of our young people and the impact we know they will have as global citizens. I invite you to explore this publication and celebrate the incredible journey of growth and achievement that has been made possible through philanthropic giving. Together, we are forging a legacy of generosity, opportunity and community and I am excited to share this inspiring narrative with you. Thank you for your continued support, and I hope these insights ignite the same passion for philanthropy in your hearts as it has in mine. Regards,

Kristy Kendall Principal

DID YOU KNOW? In the Greek tradition, the word philanthropy grows from the words ‘philos’ meaning ‘love’ and ‘anthropos’ meaning ‘humanity.’ Literally, in the original Greek meaning, the word philanthropy is the ‘love of humanity.’

NAMED SCHOLARSHIPS THE CHRISTINE FRIDAY ARTS & HUMANITIES SCHOLARSHIP

THE MARGARET WALLACE REID SCHOLARSHIP

Introduced in 2022, the Christine Friday Arts & Humanities Scholarship aims to enable students with an interest in, and proficiency for, The Arts and Humanities to grow and thrive. This scholarship is proudly supported by Ms Christine Friday (TC ‘64).

The Margaret Wallace Reid Scholarship Fund was established by Mrs Margaret Reid in appreciation of the education and opportunities provided to her by Toorak College.

THE SWIFT SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP Designed to inspire the next generation of females in STEM, Toorak College’s state-ofthe-art Swift Science & Technology Centre opened in January 2020. The Swift Science & Technology Scholarship was established at the same time to help support girls with a passion for Science to pursue a STEM education and forge a successful STEM career.

By this Scholarship, Mrs Reid hopes to provide educational and sporting opportunities to students that could, by virtue of financial assistance, enjoy their time at Toorak College as much as she did.

THE ALICE SLOAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Alice Victoria Sloan lost her life at the beautiful and exciting age of 16 whilst on a school outdoor education trip. An outgoing, positive, energetic young girl, Alice touched the lives of all she met with her confidence and her desire to have a great time. This scholarship was established by Toorak College in Alice’s honour.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE MAEVE WEEKS 2023 HAMILTON SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT I am so grateful for the Hamilton Society Scholarship and the members who have donated the money into it. Since joining Toorak, I have had so many opportunities and the teachers here are so supportive. Being here has opened my mind to what is possible. There are so many fantastic things to get involved in and there is so much on offer. I have thrown myself into GSV Basketball, GSV Netball, Aerobics and I'm learning the flute. In the future I would love to work with kids, however, I have read that two-thirds of our year level will have careers in roles that don't exist yet which is so exciting. Things are being innovated all the time. Look at AI, that field is growing and things are happening constantly. I think someone will need to fix climate change and jobs will be created by that need soon. I can't wait to be a part of the future and that journey.

INVESTING IN SPACES The performance arts have always held a special place in our School’s history from inspiring students who go on to be world class musicians, dancers, actresses and playwrights, to fostering a lifelong love of creative pursuits. The Toorak College Community and Arts Precinct will showcase Toorak College’s performing arts and musical talent in a stateof-the-art, theatre-style facility that promotes confidence, collaboration, and creativity among students, staff and guests under one roof. This vital multi-use facility has the ability to bring the entire Junior and Senior School together for assemblies and special events and will ignite spirit between students from the very beginning of their Toorak College journey.

As the only large conference and performance facility on the Mornington Peninsula, the Community and Arts Precinct will be open to the community as a hub for training, education and artistic pursuits. The Toorak College Community and Arts Precinct will be a place where significant moments are created. We will provide unique opportunities to our graduates, prioritising pathways for our Collegians beyond the gates of Toorak, be it futures in the Arts, Political arena or the use of this facility to inspire our Chief Marketing Officers and Entrepreneurs.

“ Our new Community and Arts Precinct will provide the launching pad for our future leaders, future performers, future entrepreneurs, and our future global citizens. This is where the legendary Toorak Spirit will take flight.” KRISTY KENDALL PRINCIPAL

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY Today and every day, we acknowledge the Bunurong People as the Traditional Owners of the land we live and learn on, here at Toorak College. With open hearts we pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise their ongoing connection to the land and the bay, Nairm. Our students, teachers and families are knowledge seekers. As we listen to the stories of the First Nations, we will question and reflect in order to continue our reconciliation journey.
