Letter from the CEO
Welcome to 2022’s Top Empowerment Virtual Summit and Awards
Iwould like to welcome you to the 3rd Annual Top Empowerment Virtual Summit. Don’t be fooled, Topco has been hosting The Top Empowerment Summit for over 20 years.
The very first summit was hosted by our President Cyril Ramaphosa and attended by over 300 guests in Midrand in 2001. Who was to know at the time that he would go on to be such an important statesman in our country? We had just produced our 1st Top Empowerment publication, aptly named Impumelelo.
I’m honoured to welcome you to Topco’s 21st anniversary of the Top Empowerment Summit – only virtually. I would like to congratulate and thank all our partners who have really shown up in these very difficult moments leading the way in transformation, to make sure we can execute on this very important event. Thank you to Nedbank, our Gold Sponsor, Merchants, Hollard, Avbob, Nemesis Accounting, UFS and IDC - without you this event wouldn’t be possible.
At Topco, we’ve been tracking
This is the time to echo the words “together we can” and “quality education is freedom.”
We need to reassess the type of country we want, the things we need to double down on and the things that need to be improved. My team at Topco has assembled a diverse range of speakers, who are and have been extremely passionate about transformation. Up until this point we have taken a view of what successful transformation and empowerment looks like, today and tomorrow. We need to give ourselves permission to consider new ways of thinking and new ways of measuring success.
“WE’RE AT A VERY IMPORTANT TIME IN HISTORY”
On the evening of the 21st July, we host the Top Empowerment Awards. Events like these help shape our evolution as we recognise entrepreneurs and top empowered companies. The levels of performance are shifting all the time and boundaries are being broken. Just look at someone like Theo Baloyi, founder of Bathu. We as a country and the world at large have many
enhance that spirit we need to all work in a common and unified way. This is about the future of transformation and empowerment.
We need to move from democratic freedom to economic freedom. We need a small business revolution, and to drive our economy and society through entrepreneurship and the inclusivity of everyone. We’ve got a fantastic line-up and some great speakers. The opportunity that virtual gives, is that it lets us explore and engage with these amazing speakers - things that we wouldn’t have been able to do before. We have a very personal networking tool, just put on your ‘Zoom outfit’, as real people who have similar challenges will be on the other end.
Enjoy the next 2 days, make sure you keep the speakers on their toes with questions and be sure to reach out and connect with your fellow delegates.
