THE BELVIN ANGUS & GUESTS FEMALE SALE
friday october 29
THE BELVIN ANGUS & GUESTS FEMALE SALE
Welcome to the 2021 version of the Belvin Angus Female Sale. In the immediate aftermath of our 2019 “40th Anniversary Female Sale”, we told the sale staff that maybe we would host another female sale for our 50th Anniversary. Probably due to the fact that we finished combining canola the morning of that 2019 sale, after a couple of all-night shifts in an effort to beat yet another round of snow, the thought of hosting another fall female sale seemed unlikely. However, as our herd continues to grow in numbers, and as the depth of quality continues to increase, we decided that we could afford to offer another group of bred heifers for the fall of 2021. In keeping with the adage that we have to sell cattle good enough that we would want to buy them, we have again offered the very best of our bred heifer pen. Due to the toll that offering a group like this puts on our replacements, we have settled on making this an “every other year” event. Allowing us to keep the entire group of breds in the even years and offer up our very best in the odd years.
In order to make the sale more feasible, we have invited two very special guest consignors. The cattle business is about relationships, and our connection with these two families is strong. Our family’s history with the Durie family goes back decades, from the early 70’s when Gavin was showing Dave and Pat’s cattle across the country from Vancouver to Toronto. The “Durie boys” helped Gavin and Mabel out at various points over the years, and they have mentored Quinn and myself as we were growing up. With a similar philosophy about type and function and management, our thoughts have always aligned with the Durie’s. They are offering a group of bred heifers from the very top of their program, and these are heifers that will work anywhere. Our history with the Bohrson family doesn’t go back as long, but they are a family we admire and respect for their work ethic and integrity in all aspects of the industry. With a similar eye for cattle and breeding philosophy, it was a natural fit to have the Bohrson’s involved. They are bringing a
group of heifer calves from the front end of their storied donor program, one that has a reputation for being one of the best in the nation.
The group of bred females we are offering represent the very best of what we have. The sires, cow families and service sires make up the heart of our program. We feel these heifers, with their maternal make up, functionality, fleshing ability, soundness and productivity will be able to add value anywhere. We strive to have a cowherd that can be a low maintenance and trouble free as possible. Our bull customers expect their cows to go work in any conditions, so we expect the same. We have again decided to offer a group of choice lots this year, with our very best heifers being offered for sale. If you look through the catalogue you will see a couple of feature heifers that were in dam in from 2019 “choice heifers”; these females represent the type of production we hope to see with these heifers' first calves.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the sale for us is Lot 1, Belvin May City 0136. This is a bull we kept specially to use and offer in this sale. We have admired him from every angle right from the start, and we are excited for his future in our program.
The two years since our last female sale feel like a lifetime ago. It would have been impossible to predict what has happened in the world from October 2019 to October 2021. More troubling, the moisture situation in much of Western Canada has been dire this year, and we fully realize that its not an ideal time for some people to buy females. However, we have always believed that good cattle and good genetics have value, even more so when conditions are tough. We hope that you can join our three families on October 29th. The sale will be followed by a steak dinner and live music, as we hope people can come together to celebrate the Angus breed and the cattle business we’re all so lucky to be involved with.
REGARDS
The Belvin program has been well respected in the Angus breed for well over 40 years and has a world wide brand that is synonymous with quality. We encourage you to join us at the beautiful Belvin Sale Facility as we can assure you that the cattle are excellent and the hospitality is even better. They always go over and above to accommodate their customers and friends with hosting a first class event and we can assure it’ll be worth the trip to Innisfail to attend. From the very beginning, the Belvin program puts their customers first and works hard to ensure that you will enjoy the event that is hosted with an outstanding set of cattle that will propel the most progressive program forward.
Their passion, knowledge, experience and overall desire to continually enhance this great breed doesn’t come lightly as they travel throughout the continent and abroad to source the very best in the business. The sheer attention to detail and intelligence that they put into their breeding program is to be commended as their herd continues to escalate after each calf crop that hits the ground. Cow families, maternal strength, carcass quality and overall production value is at the forefront of their herd as they advance forward. The set of 2020 born females that are in this sale are exceptional and take our word for it, the Lot 1 May City bull is the real deal and one of the very best bulls we have seen in the breed for a long time. What he can offer to the industry is endless and the large portion of the heifers carrying his service is exciting.
The Hamilton/Elliot family has welcomed in 2 guest consignors this year and they compliment their program
with the same breeding goals with highly maternal cattle with phenotype and backed by leading cow families. Duralta Farms needs no introduction as they are one of the most highly respected herds in the business. This family farm has been homesteaded for over 100 years in the Vegreville area and their desire to breed strong footed, good uddered and highly productive maternal genetics that perform has been noticed and appreciated for decades on end. They are long time friends of the Hamilton family and you can be assured they are bringing their very best to the sale. The Anchorage program is offering the very best from their ET program with a handful of elite open heifer calves. They have committed to selling their best and we can guarantee that nothing is held back and every top end calf was targeted to this sale. Much like their sale partners, cow family power is the target and they will be offering the top end.
Customer service is amongst the very best in the business at Belvin and it begins with great hospitality at sale time and is followed through to ensure you are happy with your purchase. They, along with their sale partners, fully stand behind their product and we can guarantee that you will be happy with the offering from start to finish on Friday, October 29. If you can’t make it sale day, feel free to contact any of the breeders or sales staff associated with this exciting event and they will represent your needs in a professional manner. This sale is a must-attend event for the fall and one that will provide serious ROI for successful purchasers who are serious about the Angus breed as we have a set of Angus opportunities unlike any other.
REGARDS
The Bohrson Marketing Team
On behalf of everyone at Duralta we would like to thank the crew at Belvin for letting us be a part of your female sale. When Colton came to us last fall, I was truly excited to participate in an event like this. The females will come looking like they are ready to go to work, not overfed show girls. The females selling are from the very top of the heifer pen and out of very productive cows. These are the females that raise the bulls for our bull sale. Buy with confidence. Here’s to creating more Echos.
REGARDS
A big thank-you goes out to the Belvin family for inviting us to be a part of their Female Production Sale. While their impressive program has multi-decades of advancement backing them, our Anchorage Farms program is new to the Angus breed but our family history goes back to the 1960’s when our grandpa Thomas Bohrson started his Hereford cowherd under the Anchorage Farms name. In more recent years, our families have sparked up the farm name and are excited about the future as our kids are investing in cattle with us and building an Angus program on cow families, production values and phenotype to suit the livestock industry. We’ve got the utmost respect for the great Angus breeding stock that the Belvin and Duralta programs raise and we find ourselves fortunate to be associated with these great families in this exciting sale.

reference sires
A Poss Maverick
Poss Maverick has proven to be one of the most popular bulls in the Angus breed today. His ability to sire cattle with incredible marbling that are still soft made, easy doing, stout and functional is almost unparalleled. Maverick offspring have made headlines around the globe, from the $900,000 Poss Deadwood to Texas Iceman R725, the $225,000 all time high selling bull in Australia. The Maverick daughters in this sale show his maternal side. They are massive ribbed, powerhouse females that come in an attractive package.
B Baldridge Discovery D121
Baldridge Discovery D121 is one of the most consistent, good looking, easy doing, even tempered bulls we’ve ever owned. His sons, who are stout made, deep ribbed and eye appealing, have been very popular in our bull sale the last three years. Discovery daughters are developing into beautiful, productive, problem free young cows. Discovery and his offspring are as easy fleshing of cattle as you can find.
C Baldridge Mercenary D002
Baldridge Mercenary D002 has been an extremely reliable calving ease sire, ranking in the top 1% of the breed for CE and BW EPD’s. His calves are born small, grow fast and have excellent carcass merit. Very few bulls in the CAA database can match his combination of calving ease, growth, milk and marbling. The Mercenary daughters are moderate framed, easy keeping and attractive. Over 2000 commercial heifers have been bred to Mercenary in large scale AI projects the last 2 years.
D Sitz Major 707F
Sitz Major 707F has passed our considerable expectations through his first two calf crops. He is a huge spread bull who offers calving ease and impressive growth, combined with eye appeal and incredible foot quality. Major has an awesome EPD profile, ranking in the top 1% of the breed for 7 different traits. The Sitz Angus cowherd is one of the most remarkable, maternal cowherds you will find, and that maternal strength shines through in this first group of Major daughters.
E Baldridge Vegas G082
Baldridge Vegas G082 is a direct son of the legendary Baldridge Isabel Y69, one of the highest earning cows in the history of the Angus breed. His sire, Spring Cove Reno 4021 is a proven, balanced trait sire who offers an outcross pedigree to most of the Canadian herd book. Vegas is very complete, he presents calving ease, performance, great feet and carcass quality, backed by a great cow. The first group of Vegas calves on the ground are very good. Some of the heifers in this sale carry his exciting service.
F HF Syndicate 65B
HF Syndicate 65B has excelled as a calving ease sire. He is extremely athletic, long bodied and virile, with great feet. Syndicate sons have been very well received, and his daughters are angular, perfect uddered cows with great milking ability.
G Belvin Panic Switch 2'11
Belvin Panic Switch 2’11 is one of the best calving ease sires we’ve ever used. His daughters have also been top females, with many feature bulls in our bull sales being out of Panic Switch sired dams. Panic Switch has been used in large scale commercial AI projects with great success. He is also being used in Argentina, Mexico and Australia.
H Belvin Velasquez 203'11
Belvin Velasquez 203’11 is one of the greatest individuals ever raised in our program. His sons were sale headliners for years, and now his daughters are some of the best producing cows in our herd. Velasquez semen has been used in herds across Canada, as well as in Mexico, Argentina and Australia.

We’ve decided to lead off our 2021 Female Sale…with a bull! The decision to offer Belvin May City 0136 in this sale has been in the making since the spring of 2020. He has been a favorite of everyone here from the beginning, one of those calves who has had a herd bull presence from day one. As he continued to develop, we felt that finding a bull to walk as complete as him would be a difficult task. So, for the first time since Velasquez in 2011, we kept a yearling bull back and didn’t offer him for sale. As the year has passed, we’ve been very happy with that decision.
We feel May City offers as much stoutness, shape and muscle as you can find in a bull that still possesses strong calving ease. On top of his muscle and thickness, May City is quiet tempered, has excellent feet, a big scrotal and an eye catching look. He is also extremely virile, as he has been an excellent breeder right from the start. His sire, Vermilion Reride F116, was purchased as our pick of the Vermilion Ranch sale in 2019. This outcross pedigreed bull was unfortunately lost early in his first breeding season. The maternal backing of May City is as good as we can offer. His dam is one of our best young cows, who embodies our search to identify females who are low maintenance, sound, perfect uddered and feminine. A two-year-old maternal sister to May City is picture perfect. His grandam is one of our very top Panic Switch daughters, while his great grandam was one of the most prolific donor cows we’ve ever had, his 4th dam was Reserve Champion Female at Farmfair in 1996 as a bred heifer. This line of the Georgina family has been prolific for decades. We feel May City’s combination of outcross pedigree, maternal strength, calving ease, structure and phenotype is hard to find, and we are planning to make him a big part of our program going forward.
Selling ½ possession, full semen interest. We would like to walk May City in one of our breeding seasons (April/May or Aug/Sept) if possible. We will work with the new owner on this arrangement. We will winter May City until spring 2022 for the new owner if they desire.

Bred April 5 (Safe) to Belvin May City 0136. Exposed April 21 – August 20 to Belvin May City 0136. Selling Choice with 2B Belvin Georgina 161’20 is an ideal heifer to start the female portion of the sale, combining the past and present of our operation. Stemming from the foundation Georgina cow family, with the Lady Blossom family also showing up via Panic Switch, 161’20 represents the maternal foundation of our herd. Cross that with Poss Maverick, one of the breeds most popular sires, and you have a snapshot of what our program is about. 161’20 is the type of female we strive to produce, deep ribbed, easy doing, sound and angular. Her service to May City will leave a calf that has the powerful Georgina 60’00 donor cow on both sides of the resulting pedigree. We feel this heifer is as complete as we have offered.

She is the prototype for what the Maverick daughters have become and has been a favourite of visitors this summer. The dam of 214’20 is hard to fault, being one of the better KR Cash 4003 daughters in our herd. The Lady Di cow family started with Quinn’s first cow purchase from Ken and Verny Cox. The cow family is smaller in numbers, but consistently produces at the top end. The early mating to May City will produce a calf that is backed with maternal strength.

Our 2022 sale will highlight 7 more sons of 205’12, while a number of other daughters are exciting young females. 5’20 and 6’20 are made in the same mold as their mother, as massive bodied and easy keeping as you can find, the type of heifers that are almost impossible to make skinny. Baldridge Discovery D121 progeny have been extremely well received, both male and female. His daughters show great udders and are very productive cows. Both heifers carry early service to May City.

Bred May 4 (Safe) to Bar-E-L Reserve 35A. No exposure. This big, broody female carries a lot of rib shape and middle that transitions into a very angular front end. Her sire Instagram was our high selling bull in 2019 going into the Everblack Angus herd. Top Line Lady 102 is amongst the very elite donors in the industry and a female that is royally bred with an impressive track record. She and her daughters were high sellers out of the Werner Dispersal and were the most popular and productive cow family offered that day. That day, the 102 cow family sold to progressive programs such as Brooking Angus, Krebs Ranch and Norfolk and her potent breeding abilities have carried on in these 4 females. Unfortunately, Top Line
Top Line Lady 102 DAM (ABOVE) Werner Lady 3003 $19,000
Lady 102 was lost too early in life and her embryo inventory has been depleted, but her awesome breeding potential will carry on through these daughters on offer.
Three of the daughters are from No Doubt and he continues to be one of the hottest bulls in the business and when we flushed 102 that way, semen was seeking $3,000/ dose and in large demand for obvious reasoning. The EPD’s these 3 heifers offer land in the top 3% for WW, YW, CW and top 10% or better for RADG, SC, Angle, CW, REA and top 20% for Marbling. These heifers possess impressive carcass value in genetics that have phenotype and genotype to boot. The single Natural Law daughter will be a front pasture female as she is a definite sweetheart and we feel is much better than her picture shows. The maternal greatness in this female is endless and she is certain to show big time udder quality and be extremely productive for years on end.
When Belvin asked us to be a part of this event, we told them we would bring our very best and you have our word that these are our top from the 2021 calf crop and no other ET females were retained – only the best is on offer to showcase our program.

As we continued to seek cattle that combine phenotype, cow families and strong EPD’s, it lead us to invest in a future donor at Linz Heritage Angus last fall. Her cow family is backed by high production females and she is an actual direct daughter of the $300,000 RB Lady Denver 167-453 and granddaughter of the $300,000 RB Lady Party 167-305, who is a full sister to Tour of Duty. This is Linz's most prolific cow family and we are always seeking proven and productive cow families to invest in. The mating to the EPD giant and carcass leader, Pine View Beast Mose F402 resulted in a standout heifer calf which should have the ability to out-breed her productive dam. This performance heifer showcases ideal teat placement, easy doing ability, good hair, capacity and overall maternal strength and we feel she has serious ROI in her future.
9202 has a stacked pedigree and is backed by outstanding EPD’s landing her in the top 1% for WW, YW, CW, HPG, Milk; the top 10% or better for Angle, Marbling, REA, MH, MW, CBi; and very good across the board for a powerful pedigree with carcass value represented. 9202 did a great job on her first calf and we flushed her successfully this summer to leading bulls in the industry for number profiles and phenotype. Firstly, we feel that Woodhill Revival H028 is a bull for the future and one that we were excited to partner with Belvin on as he was the $52,500 high seller with outstanding EPD’s, great cow family and a phenotype that is near impossible to find in high numbered cattle...an outstanding breeding piece. Secondly, we did 9202 to the huge spread bull, Crawford Guarantee that has extra style, presence and an EPD profile that is incredibly unique. Thirdly, we flushed her to Ellingson Three Rivers, the shear power bull that is leading the breed with 108 WW and 200+ YW epd and the reports on the progeny continue to be outstanding. We are excited about these matings and have the most confidence in them and excited for the successful buyers future with the genetics.
