Faculty Write-To-Learn Challenge Share How Writing Helps Your Students Learn and Achieve SLOs Win a 64GB iPad With Retina Display! Contest begins Wednesday February 27, 2013 Writing facilitates learning in both English courses and courses in other disciplines, such as math, science, social studies, foreign language, philosophy, psychology, business, music, health services, industrial technology, art, etc. We would like to hear from you about the ways you incorporate writing assignments in courses you teach. General Requirements In a maximum 2000 word essay formatted in MS Word, describe how a writing assignment:
Helps students learn course content. Facilitates achievement of a specific student learning outcome.
The Write-To-Learn Challenge is open to all spring semester 2013 full-time and part-time faculty in the Instruction Division at Johnston Community College. QEP Resource Team members are ineligible to participate in the challenge. Only single authored papers can be submitted with only one entry per faculty member.

Entries will be evaluated by an external panel of readers. The panel will use the following criteria:
Compliance to formatting requirements. Use of details that show how writing facilitates learning.
Submit your completed Write-To-Learn Challenge paper as an MS Word attachment to: qep-faculty-wtl-challenge@mail.johnstoncc.edu by Friday March 22, 2013. The winning entry will be posted on the Faculty Writing Resource Library for general access and use.

Staff Write-To-Learn Challenge Share How Writing Helps JCC Students Learn and Achieve Goals Win a 64GB iPad with Retina Display! Contest begins Wednesday February 27, 2013 Writing is integral to student learning at JCC. We would like to hear from you about the ways you have helped JCC students get On the Write Path. Have you informed students about writing resources on campus? Have you written letters of recommendation for students? In what other ways have you encouraged student success through writing? General Requirements In a maximum 1,000 word (3-4 pages) essay formatted in MS Word, describe how your involvement in the QEP helps students reach academic goals and/or supports the writing program at JCC. T-SHIRT DESIGN CHALLENGE GUIDELINES/RULES We are searching for a unique, creative T-Shirt design for the Johnston Community College On The Write Path Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) initiative. The winning t-shirt design must incorporate: 1.

Use of lewd, offensive, inappropriate wording or symbols are strictly prohibited! Submitted designs must be free of violations of copyrighted or trademark material. Only one (1) t-shirt design submission per student. Here’s how to enter: 1.

Under the heading Product Catalog, T-Shirts, click Short-Sleeve

Then click the red/white design lab tab toward the top of the page.

Begin creating your design by utilizing color, text, and art tools available on the site

Once your design is complete, use the Save/Send feature on the site and email your T-Shirt design submission to: qep_t-shirt_challenge@mail.johnstoncc.edu

Make sure you include your first name, middle initial, last name, email address, and telephone number with your submission.

All submissions will be screened for compliance to rules.

A panel of judges will choose a winner based on an assessment of creativity, uniqueness, and visual appeal.

It is understood by the student winner of the T-Shirt Design Challenge that they explicitly grant Johnston Community College the right to: 1) use the winning design for future institutional awareness and promotional campaigns 2) make any necessary alterations to said design (in color, size, form, fashion, etc.) to meet budgetary, policy, or other institutional needs deemed necessary. It is also understood that the person submitting the winning design will be credited for the overall design concept.
