CAN'T-MISS EXPERIENCES BY ALAIN-FRANÇOIS Alain-François Quebec-born author-composer-performer

Pêche Nicolet This spot quickly became one of my favourites thanks to its impressive landscapes and its quality fishing! In my view, the Nicolet River is definitely one of the most beautifully restored rivers in all of Québec. This is a region that is dedicated exclusively to wading. Fly fishing and light casting welcome! I really can’t say enough about this great spot, especially if you want to fish brook trout, rainbow trout and brown trout! This is a spectacular getaway that is just 10 minutes away from home (in Victoriaville). What more could you ask for!

Parc régional des Grandes-Coulées I discovered this small peaceful oasis in the Parc régional des Grandes-Coulées. If you’re looking to reconnect with nature, you must make a stop here. Recharge your batteries beside the rushing river and lose yourself in the lush forest! In the Forêt Ancienne region, the fishing routes include 35 well-identified and easily accessible ponds. Since 2012, the park rangers have caught 1,200 trout every year! This incredible spot is free of charge and is the perfect way to introduce children to fishing! This really is a must-see!

CAN'T-MISS EXPERIENCES BY GENEVIÈVE DUBOIS Geneviève Dubois Mayor of Nicolet Prefect of Nicolet-Yamaska MRC President of the Centre-du-Quebec MRC table

Boardwalk of the Parc écomaritme de l’Anse du port in Nicolet Don’t miss an opportunity to try the newly rebuilt boardwalk in this remarkable park. I am among the 25,000 people to visit this amazing spot every year! I’m convinced you will fall in love with this great little tourist spot. The fauna, flora and easy access to the river make the Nicolet boardwalk a must-see spot.

Le parc de la rivière Gentilly I was lucky enough to try the "ready-to-camp" option at the park this fall and I was hooked! I had already spent time in the park enjoying other activities like the walking trails, horseback riding and fishing, but I had yet to try the wonderful camping facilities they have in the park. You won’t be disappointed!

CAN'T-MISS EXPERIENCES BY ALAIN RAYES Alain Rayes Member of Parliament for Richmond-Arthabaska

Parc Marie-Victorin

Balade Gourmande

The Parc Marie-Victorin gardens are true horticultural gems. I am always taken aback by the landscape at Kingsey Falls. Whether I’m having a picnic next to the falls, taking in the giant mosiaculture, the themed gardens or the tropical greenhouse and its exotic birds, I find this spot enchanting. I highly recommend making a stop at the general store. Here, you will step back in time and see first hand the life of Frère Marie-Victorin. This is an experience you won’t forget!

Take a stroll through vibrant landscapes and discover some of the local products created by our passionate producers. This is a route full of tasty creations: farm fresh meat, artisan meats and cheeses, fruits and vegetables from our market gardeners, wine and beer, honey, maple products and many other treats that are sure to please the most gourmet taste buds. Explore the charming municipalities of each of the four corners of our beautiful region. My favourite part: trying the local products and chatting with the producers in person!

Summer Theatre

Village Québécois d'Antan

Who doesn’t enjoy a great show now and then? What about seeing a funny play when the warm weather sets in? Count us in. Gilles Latulippe created a real summer tradition in the Centre-duQuébec region by stepping on stage at the Maison des arts Desjardins Drummondville for 20 years. Now to present day and there are just as many entertaining shows to see, including Toc Toc, directed by Pierre-François Legendre. Come see this comedy, playing from July 13th to August 25th. Laughs guaranteed!

Undoubtedly one of Drummondville’s cultural jewels, this replica of a Québécois village reinvents itself every season to give visitors a unique experience. I have a special place in my heart for the Village Illuminé Desjardins where you really feel like time is standing still. It comes alive with the spirit of the holidays and there is nowhere better to enjoy the delights of winter as a family. Whatever the season, you are sure to be charmed by its interesting history and the warm welcome of the performers.

CAN'T-MISS EXPERIENCES BY DANIEL GRENIER Daniel Grenier Humorist, founder member of the Chick'n Swell

Érable Rouge

Fromage Warwick

I was asked to write about two places that I like in our region. Instead, for my first must-see spot I decided to create a list of words that come to mind when I think of l’Érable rouge.

Ok, I admit it. Every time I go to Victoriaville I have to stop and buy a bit of Jersey cheese. I also admit to buying some for my friends. And maybe for my family. And I could maybe tell you where every Jersey cheese store is in the region. I admit that when I eat Jersey cheese, I dream. I admit that my whole family loves it too. I admit that I gave some to my son to try and he loved it. I admit that if there is no Jersey cheese on the shelf, I’m heartbroken. I also admit that if I’m invited to a party, I bring Jersey cheese. I admit that this cheese is just divine. There is nothing better!

Cozy, warm, magical, family-oriented, rustic, peaceful, enchanting, fun, laughter, fire, welcoming, friendly, beautiful, adapted, charming, nature, holidays, relaxing, maple, food, warmth (I know I already used this word but it’s just so warm), must-see, breathe, soft, happiness. Where time stands still.

PORTRAIT OF THE REGION

On the Road Again! The roads are beautiful in the Centre-duQuébec, and there are plenty of opportunities to stop by! Why not travel around the region, by car, bike, motorcycle, snowmobile, or quad? No matter which road you choose, you will discover an authentic and amazing tourist region where tradition and terroir (local products) go hand in hand. Bounded by the majestic St. Lawrence River and the Appalachian foothills, the region is located just south of the St. Lawrence and the Lac Saint-Pierre Biosphere Reserve and near several major urban centres. As you drive along highways 20 or 55, you will inevitably travel through the Centre-du-Québec.

You’re bound to make interesting discoveries no matter which road you choose. For example, Route 116 will take you through towns and cities ranging from the most urban to the most rural. Or, if you opt for Route 132, you will be rewarded with a more panoramic view as you hug the St. Lawrence River and travel along the Navigators’ Route. Here, you’re always greeted with a smile. Wherever the road may take you in the Centre-du-Québec, folks are friendly, and the tourist attractions are many!

Not far from the highways are the region’s main cities (Bécancour, Drummondville, Nicolet, Plessisville, and Victoriaville) and its many charming quaint towns… yours to discover.

Winter tires From December 15 to March 15, all taxis and passenger vehicles registered in Québec must be equipped with winter tires. This requirement also applies to rental passenger vehicles in Québec. Tourist routes The official tourist routes are clearly marked with blue signs. They are designed to highlight the attractions of the regions through which they pass, and to enable visitors to discover the extent of Québec’s natural and cultural treasures. quebecoriginal.com/

Tourist signage In Québec, tourist regions and directions to services, attractions and activities are indicated by blue road signs. For more information, visit panneaubleu.com and tourisme.gouv.qc.ca/signalisation (in French only). Village-relais accredited services If you feel like taking a break or require assistance while on the road, look for the Village-relais signs. These point to towns that, together with local businesses, offer a range of accredited services and a safe and pleasant place to stop. villages-relais.qc.ca

Taxes Québec has two taxes: the 5% federal goods and services tax (GST), and the 9,975% Québec sales tax (QST). An accommodation tax of 3.5%/night also applies in Centre-du-Québec.

Tipping Tipping is customary in restaurants, bars and taxis. The amount, which is not included in the bill, is generally equivalent to 15% of the total bill before taxes. For quick tip calculations, Québecers normally add up both taxes. Tipping bellhops or porters is at your discretion (generally, $1 per bag).

Voltage In Québec, the standard voltage is 110 volts/60 cycles, as it is throughout North America. Since the outlets cannot accommodate European plugs, you will need to bring or buy an adaptor.
