RESURGENT KERALA IS ALL SET TO GO…

lessing in disguise, but we have the mettle and ammunition When floodwaters shattered God’s own country, we tried everything we can, to raise our heads, and now finally with the support of the world, perhaps one of the darkest times the state has faced as of yet, but with the cooperation, teamwork, and assistance, we’re starting to get back on our feet. Tourism, being a major contributor to Kerala’s economy and a significant source of foreign exchange is one of the sectors deeply affected by the floods. The floods left the tourism industry in complete pandemonium – but only for a short while. The tourism trade has played a commendable role in the rescue and rehabilitation operations. Thanks to the effort of millions, to help Kerala get back on its feet. Kerala and its industry stakeholders, thanking the entire world from their bottom of hearts for the wholehearted support and help when they are in grief ‘Chekutty’, the handmade doll born from the stained chendamangalam sarees became the Iconic symbol of Kerala’s resilience and hope. Chekkutty remembers each of us the stories with the moral When things go wrong, then there are a hundred ways to make it right. Chekutty brings us hope, confidence, and love at the time of grief, despair, and uncertainties and always remember us about the inner strength and courage. In order to recover from the setback, Kerala
Tourism has drawn up action plans and the Government already having taken up reconstruction and repair works of roads and primary connections pacing under wartime footing. But as the mass repairs and rehabilitation happens, the need for an eco-friendly approach grows bigger. The need for Sustainable Tourism grows even more important. The entrepreneurs should utilize the opportunity to rethink and improve the product in line with changing consumer expectations. This is the right time to the reset button: to rethink, innovate, change and emerge stronger. Addressing fear amongst travelers is another issue, the subtle growth in fear amongst travelers coming into the state is cause for concern and safety measures around destinations need to be stepped up. A new catalyzing marketing strategy is essential to ensure that the season is not entirely lost and send out a strong message that Kerala tourism is back in business. Since we have shown the courage to turn an adversity into a stepping stone on the way to success, it is sure that Kerala will lead the world. As Kerala Travel Mart 2018 is to kickoff which amplifies the message that Kerala is ready to receive the world. Kerala is back on track. God’s Own Country is ready to welcome tourists once again. erala and its people are slowly going back to their normal lives, the life they enjoyed until the first week of August. God’s Own Country and its hospitable people witnessed, perhaps the worst natural calamity of the century, and for over half a month, all 44 Rivers in the state overflowed and gushed into the banks of their tributaries and washed away almost everything in their path. Authorities have opened the floodgates of more than 38 dams, including the biggest dams in the state; Idukki and Sabari Giri, which in turn damaged all of Central Kerala, especially Idukki, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta. Most of what you could see vanished before our very eyes. We saw the face of Kerala, known for its beauty and majesty, become crippled and tainted. Our businesses were forced to shut down. And many lives were lost. But with our strong will power, togetherness, and resilience, we’re starting to get back on our feet again, and most establishments, including but not limited to hotels, resorts, house boats, Ayurveda centers, and tour operators have opened their businesses back up again starting

COVER STORY/INCREDIBLE INDIA September 1, 2018. It’s been almost a century since a natural calamity of this scale struck the state, and its aftermath has shocked the entire spectrum of people and sabotaged our environment along with a majority of infrastructure in the state. We know our land has been ravaged. We know many of our people are still in shock. Most of our businesses and livelihoods have been washed away. Our farmlands are destroyed and thousands of cattle and livestock lost their lives, along with 400 plus precious lives of our fellow humanbeings during the floods and landslides. But the losses don’t end there, when more than 14 Lakh (1.4 million) people from 12 districts in Kerala are severely affected and have been evacuated or forced to take refuge in relief camps. According to the Kerala Government’s initial estimates, the total loss of the state may cross INR 20,000 Crores (200 Billion) and the state requires at least 40 to 50 thousand Crores (400 to 500 billion) in funds to rebuild a new Kerala. The endurance and resilience of the people in Kerala and its prime industry sector; the Tourism industry’s bounce back is starting to become a global case study.Due to the natural calamity, the worst affected sectors are agriculture and tourism in the state. Initial estimates of damages totaled at INR 500 Crores (50 Billion) through direct damages, and that’s just to just
a few resorts, with some properties having lost their entire outdoor infrastructure, landscape and electrical equipment while some totally cut off from the mainland due to the severely damaged roads and bridges. The Kerala Tourism industry has lost more than 3000 Crores (30 billion) rupees worth of business from June to October period, due to the gushing waters and its aftermath. The devastating floods in Kerala have also slowed down the entire travel & tourism industry sector in South India. The tourism stakeholders in Kerala have showed their strength and resilience during the havoc across the state and have done everything they can, in terms of Rescue, Relief and Rehabilitation actions with the support

of Industry stake holders and Tourism authorities. They have been directly involved in evacuating more than 1.98 lakhs (198 thousand) precious lives safely and supported in relief activities. Now it’s the Indian and global tourism sector’s turn to bring back our beautiful Kerala to its old glory with some brisk business in the coming season. The revival of Kerala Tourism and its sector will directly and indirectly support the business atmosphere of Indian tourism sector, especially Travel, Transport and Hospitality segments in South India. In Travel & Tourism, inter and intra state packages only thrive in the long term prospects and normally international travelers have preferred, pan India travel circuits. Every state Tourism authorities’ brand and market their respective destinations, but Tourism is an entirely a private sector driven business, now the industry stake holder’s duty is to cater customeroriented packages and tailor-made itineraries for discerned travelers, either domestic or international, with the support of various other industry stake holders and corporate houses. The perseverant nature of the Tourism Industry across the globe has once again proved itself in Kerala too by being the first sector from Kerala to started their businesses within, just two weeks after the calamity that wiped out a lot of the state’s infrastructure, even though the Tourism industry suffered the most due to the floods. RE BUILD KERALA; GOD’S OWN COUNTRY 2.0
RISING FROM ITS WORST CALAMITY IN NEARLY A CENTURY, KERALA IS ALL SET TO START A NEW JOURNEY WITH MORE VIGOUR AND VALOR FOR ONE OF ITS BIGGEST REVENUE EARNING SECTORS - TOURISM.
P
utting the devastating floods in August behind it, the Kerala Tourism Department with the support of its strong private sector stakeholders is gearing to launch a revived campaign to refresh and revitalize the one and only tourism superbrand of India - God’s Own Country 2.0. Kerala tourism and its industry counterparts has together embarked upon an audacious new journey to further strengthen state’s tourism pegs and infuse new elements in its repertoire. Immediately after the catastrophe, Kerala Tourism called for a detailed discussion and stock taking analysis with Kerala Tourism Advisory committee members and various industry associations, then chalked out a range of new initiatives, both, in augmenting offerings and concretizing outreach into key domestic and international markets. Meanwhile Kerala Tourism department has announced a 12-point plan largely concentrate on rebuilding of infrastructure and connectivity issues along with a damage control exercise on the brand image, it is also an opportunity to refresh and revitalize the state as a tourism brand. Mr. Kadakampally Surendran, Minister for Tourism, Government of Kerala has lead the team of officials and industry leaders to spearhead the revival plan, both in domestic and global source 18

Minister along with Ms. Rani George IAS Secretary were participated at 34th IATO Annual convention at Visakapatanam in ANdhra Pradesh on September 7th, just two week after the water level recede and normal life of the state to back. Minister delivered an emotional speech at Vizag to address the leaders of Indian Tourism industry and described the story in details. Minister has also invited IATO to host its 35th convention in Kerala in September 2019. Minister also added that God’s Own Country is ready to welcome tourists once again after the devastating floods. One of the sectors deeply affected
by the floods was tourism, a major contributor to Kerala’s economy and a significant source of foreign exchange. The floods left the tourism industry in a state of disarray and shock – but only for a while. I am happy to say that today things are back to normal. Restoration and rehabilitation activities are in full swing. Road connectivity has been re-established. Flights are operating. Hotels and resorts are up and running. Kerala is back on track, Mr. Surendran added Now that the situation on the ground is back to normal, there are a few things that need our immediate attention. We

need to boost confidence among people in the tourism sector, both in India and other major markets. And boost the confidence of travellers. In order to recover from the setback, we have done a tourism readiness survey which shows that almost all destinations are ready to receive tourists. Only a handful of resorts are yet to be operational and that too will be ready in a week or so. Based on this readiness, Kerala Tourism has drawn uptime bound action plans. Government has taken up the reconstruction and repair works of the roads on a war-footing and primary connections have been established.
THE ENDURANCE AND RESILIENCE OF THE PEOPLE IN KERALA AND ITS TOURISM SECTOR IS NOW A GLOBAL CASE STUDY IN CRISIS MANAGEMENT. To reassure the world, the reopening of Cochin International Airport was telecast live on Kerala Tourism’s social media channels recently. Minister has accepted a cheque of Rs 25 Lakhs from IATO, 11 Laksh from FAITH and 2 Lakhs from Andhra Pradesh Tourism MInister. Balakiran IAS, Director of Kerala Tourism.along with Mr. Abraham George, National Tourism Advisory Board Member and Mr. Sanjay Kaushik, CEO of Raviz Hotels & Resorts and other industry stakeholders flied to Ahmedabad to attend TTF and address the media at a one of the major domestic source market of Kerala. Mr. Balakiran clearly outlined the action plan and the big takeaways of the outreach at Gujarath was the announcement of the launch of a refreshed version of India’s best tourism brand, Kerala -‘God’s Own Country 2.0. The branding which has graet history of more than quarter century, had been able to position the state in a unique light, creating enough buzz 20

through the years to have catapulted it as one of the most visited markets in the country. The entire team once again landed in National capital to attend India Tourism Mart and meet the International correspondents of major foreign newspapers and television channels, who are all based at New Delhi.Apart from Mr. najeeb and Abraham George, Mr. Baby Mathew, President and Mr. U.C. Riyaz, Vice President of Kerala Trvel Mart Society also attend the media outreach event in the capital. Kerala Still reeling from the worst ever floods in over a century, Kerala Tourism is looking to get the state back on its feet before the winter holiday season kicks in and address the fears that have led global and domestic travellers to drop the state from their
travel itineraries. The state estimates that it could lose around Rs 5000 Crores from tourism revenues this year, with nearly Rs 3000 Crores accruing in losses due to booking cancellations. Kerala tourism and its industry stakeholders have already started the media outreach events, in national and international level by participating major travel marts, attending industry events, organizing press conferences and road shows in various source markets to attract new customers and withhold the existing customers. Kerala Travel Mart, the biennial Tourism Trade Fair, also India’s biggest B2B travel event, which showcases, Kerala’s entire tourism industry to the world will be organised in a befitting manner, bettering the previous

Already, we have 595 international tourism buyers from 66 countries and 1350 domestic tourism buyers registered for KTM, which is starting from the 27th of this month, said Mr. Baby Mathw, President of KTM Society. . Ms. Rani George said, we had the worst natural calamity in 94 years and it has affected the people of Kerala and also Kerala Tourism. We understand the anguish and agony of the tourism stakeholders. Understanding this, we have announced the 12 point action plan to revive Kerala Tourism. This will be implemented in a time bound manner. Tourism readiness prepared by an internationally reputed agency is out and all our destination are fully prepared to welcome the guests. Considering the magnitude of the natural calamity that has affected us and the reports carried by the media in India and internationally, it is natural for the visitors to get apprehensive. Any campaign that we do should be able to convince them and should not make them feel that it is false. We are planning to continue, our domestic media outreach programme which will be held in the major cities to convey the message, that Kerala is ready for tourism and A list of activities is planned for the digital and social media campaigns have started working on it. We will also be doing print and visual campaigns as well, added Ms. Rani. .
Mr. P. Balakiran said, Kerala tourism is planning to launch a series of new campaign to bring back the tourism to its old glory and the revitalized media campaign centred around state’s tranquil backwaters . We are also focusing on our rich natural and cultural heritage, including the Muziris Heritage project, ancient spice route projects, Thalassery and Alappuzha heritage projects. He also informed that, Kochi Muziris Biennale to be held from 12th December 2018 to 29th March 2019, will be used as a platform to showcase the resilience of Kerala, and it will have artists from all over the world taking part, saluting the spirit of the land. Also on the cards are FAM tours for travel writers, journalists, meeting planners and travel agents as well as a new brand campaign to promote Kerala globally. Road shows will be other avenues that will showcase Kerala’s readiness to the world. We are also exploring the possibility of organising the Boat Race League, which will help us send the message that our waters are safe too. The move is aimed at creating awareness about its lesser, known and, commercially active destinations. Also, through this foray, Kerala tourism board is keen on tapping some high-potential markets like Europe, Middle-east in the international arena, and North and northeast of India, domestically. ‘CHEKUTTY’ BEAUTY BEYOND STAINS & SCARS THE MUD-COVERED DOLLS, NOW TURNS SYMBOL OF RESILIENCE IN FLOOD-HIT KERALA
C
hekutty, is now the symbol of resilience and hope of Kerala God’s own country. Chekutty the handmade doll from the Chendamangalam handloom Sarees which were stained and destroyed during the Kerala floods is by far the most appealing Mascot of Kerala, which never saw in the recent history of the state, may be after the iconic naming and logo of Kerala- God’s Own Country. These cute little handmade handloom dolls were ideated and created by two good souls, Mr. Gopinath Parayil, Trustee of Nila Foundation and founder of The Blue Yonder, a responsible tourism oriented tour operator and Ms. Lakshmi Menon, Founder of Entrée seed pens, an interior, Jeweler, fashion and handicrafts designer. Gopi, who actively involved in the rescue operations and relief activities during the devastating floods, it was easy for him to realized that the whole livelihoods of 100s of handloom weavers were totally destroyed by the flood waters. Chendamangalam which is known for its traditional Kerala handloom was one of the worst flood-affected places located in the Paravur taluk of Ernakulam district in Kerala. Their looms and products and raw materials has destroyed or washed away. According to Mr. Ajithkumar Secretary Chendamangalam 26

Handloom weavers co operative society, 300 handloom weavers in and around might have to leave their traditional job in search of better options since the current situation is a threat to the Handloom Industry. “ I had visited the textile industries in Chendamangalam as I often used to bring my guests over to visit these industries. When I found the uncertainties shadowing their future” , Gopi had discussions with Lakshmi In order to help the weavers of Chendamangalam, Lakshmi tried to clean the fabric by chlorinating the clothes seems useless since the stains were deep. From that point the concept of highlighting the stained fabric which survived the flood which shows the strength and will power irrespective of loss of beauty and perfection was fixed. “One significant reason behind making Chekutty is the emotional connect that Lakshmi and I share with Chendamangalam and our common interest in the handloom heritage of this place,” says Gopinath “The response we have received so far for this initiatives is
overwhelming from across the globe and even Kerala Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan and Tourism Minister Mr. Kadakampally Surendran are came forward in support of the initiative.” Lakshmi said. “Chekutty, the child who overcame the floods. This doll is turning out to be the symbol of a Kerala that overpowered the crisis,” the CM said in his post on Facebook. “We shall overcome, Chekutty bring us hope and confidence” says Tourism Minister, while sharing the Chekutty in his fb wall. Chekutty brings us hope, confidence and love at the time of grief, despair and uncertainties. Chekutty or Chendamangalam Kutty or in Malayalam “Cherine athijeevicha kutty”, meaning the kid who has survived the mud, these dolls are dressed up in mud-stained handloom sarees, that were soiled and destroyed during to floods. The Chekutty initiative has now turned into a volunteer-driven programme. From writing content and creating the website to making the dolls, people have volunteered to be a part of this

Chekkutty has scars. Chekkutty has stains. But Chekutty represents each one of us who survived the floods”, reads the Chekutty website (www. chekutty.in). ”360 Chekutty dolls can be made from a single piece of saree. “One saree would generally cost Rs 1,300. If we can make 360 dolls from one saree, with each doll costing Rs 25, the value
of the saree goes up to Rs 9,000,” he explains. Cost for a Chekutty should not be considered exorbitant because of the cause it stands for. The fund raised by selling Chekutty will be handed over to Handloom Society. Now we are planning to chanalise Kerala’ s charity mode into enterprising mode by working in a micro-level in a decentralised fashion, addressing local issues and looking at upcycling as a solution can make a huge difference.” Says Gopinath. Chekutty is the symbol of hope. For its creators, it is a storyteller. Chekutty has a tale to tell, a tale of surviving. In the process of survival, it might have lost the outer beauty and lustre but not the inner strength and courage. It is a perfect gift with a strong message. Chekutty can be used to adorn the walls, cars, rooms, bags and a perfect gift. techniques and even martial arts. Eventually, the many roads that the monks and nuns - those men and women of faith - carved out became among the earliest trade routes. In that sense, Buddhism was the basis for an early form of globalisation – and of inter-connectedness in our continent. It is these principles and values that must continue to guide us. The President added that tourism is a multi-stakeholder enterprise. The private sector and civil society have substantial roles. And in terms of providing a safe and secure visitor experience, state and municipal administrations play a critical part.
The business potential of tourism is immense. Across our world, Tourism industry is a big job creator, especially for local households and local communities. In its essence, tourism, like Buddhism, is about people and empowering them to realise their potential Mr. K.J. Alphons said that India has a rich ancient Buddhist Heritage with several important sites associated with the life of Lord Buddha. The aim of the Conclave is to showcase and project the Buddhist Heritage in India and boost tourism to the Buddhist sites in the country and cultivate friendly ties with countries and communities interested in Buddhism. The Ambassador of Japan to India, Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu in his address said that the Japan has very long cultural relations with India and Tourism is the important component in Indo-Japan relations. Mrs. Rashmi Verma, Secretary, M/o Tourism said that Buddhism binds the culture of India, with the regions like Bhutan, China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. About 500 million Buddhist worldwide, represent 7% of the World’s population. We are also proud to have Japan as the Partner country of this conclave and happy to note a strong participation from Japan led by the Ambassador of Japan in India. Presently, it is estimated that there are nearly 500 million Buddhists all over the World and majority of them live in East Asia, South East Asia and Far East countries. However, a very small percentage of them visit the Buddhist sites in India each year. So the potential of encouraging more tourists to visit the Buddhist destinations where Lord Buddha lived and preached is immense. The “ASEAN” was the Guest of Honor during IBC, 2016 and Japan is the ‘Partner Country for IBC-2018 Buddha and Eight-fold Path, in Pali language is the most precious gift of the Ancient India given to the World. rooms, across the country. Believing and following the true Indian traditional hospitality concept of Atithi Devo Bhava and aspiring to create a niche for small and medium resorts in the midst of international resorts and hotel chains TGI have already marked their position as one of the best and fastest hotel management and marketing company in India. Mr. Amitava Roy, Founder and
CEO said, ‘We operate on an assetlight model and do not heavily invest in properties, hence, we are able to expand at a rapid pace.” “TGI management has a sound business strategy of ‘Management Contract’ for the resort and hotel owners. Under this, a tie-up with the owners they get to operate their hotel and resorts directly under TGI brand and benefit from the expertise of TGI
and its powerful market network. Management fees are charged on a pre-decided percentage of the revenue generated by the hotel. The property owners get efficient sales and marketing team, centralized reservation system and distribution channels. The TGI team ensures high-profit margin by reducing your operational cost and optimizing the owner’s investment through the right selection of suppliers and products
guaranteeing the best deals in quality, price and delivery. Apart from this the Corporate Loyalty program, Human resources development, training and management, quality audits and cost optimization through processes and inventory give strength to the business. their operation with a 22 key hotel in Yelagiri and later add many properties in their portfolio. We plan to launch in attractive locations, in addition to adding 10 hotels this year in Andaman’s - Thekkady – Coimbatore – Ooty - Mahabalipuram – Bangalore – Coorg – Hyderabad – Jaipur and Ghaziabad. The company targets to add 1000 keys every year, currently enjoying the portfolio of 550 keys in total. The company is looking forward to adding 5000+ keys by 2025 and to benchmark “TGI Service & Experiences” in the industry. Arun feels that this is a sunrise moment for the industry. Almost 90 percent of the supply in Indian hotels are in the budget segment and there is still room for everybody to tap in. Throwing some light on the recent trends he is noticing in the segment, he said, “From the hotel owner’s perspective, there is a growing realisation that you cannot take customers for granted. supply has changed a lot in years. Even independent hoteliers are evaluating the quality of their property. Amit Kumar, Chief Marketing Officer having spentover 20 years in hospitality and airline industry, has seen the sector evolving over the time. “The basics have always remained the same and that is hospitality,” he said in a conversation with Tourism India. Recalling his initial days in hospitality, Amit said, “Unlike today, earlier we didn’t have any online operations. The best part of the earlier days was that there weren’t many hotels, only the big Indian players like Taj, ITC and Oberoi existed and the foreign players have just started to come in. It was a great learning experience for all of us since the rebranding was happening all around.” As of now, we have hotels in Pondicherry, Yercaud, Yelagiri, Hosur, Bangalore (Bommasandra & JP Nagar), Dewas, Ranthambore and
Jaipur and is certain in its purpose of ensuring personalized service to its guests by way of less than 100 rooms in its hotels and resorts. The guest demographics of the brand range from corporate, MICE to leisure. Amit Kumar talks about the group’s growth, future prospects and marketing plans. “We have witnessed a growth for more than four years. We started our first footprint in Yelagiri, followed by a portfolio of 10properties across 9 cities which includes South India and Madhya Pradesh and its first time a Pondicherry based hotel
TGI HOTELS WILL ADD 10 MORE HOTELS IN 2018 AT ANDAMAN, KERALA, TAMIL NADUM, KARNATAKA, TELENGANA, RRAJASTHAN & UP management company is stepping into Rajasthan that too by launching 2 properties one in Ranthambore and other in Jaipur. And he feels that within the next five years, the hotel business is going to shine. “Domestic travelling should be given importance because it has risen at a tremendous rate. Also, what I have noticed is that the duration of night stays has increased. The hospitality business is dependent upon a lot of other industries, which means growth is interlinked. Speaking of the impact of recent regulatory measures, including GST, the group is happy that there is a level playing field across levying of taxes across all states. According to Amit, 28 percent GST slab for rooms priced more than Rs 7500 is hurting the top line for luxury hotels as other international destinations have become more attractive for inbound travellers. “For the domestic traveler
who is price sensitive, he might choose a budget / midscale brand to avoid paying a higher tax. Further speaking about the recent trends he is noticing in the hospitality industry, Amit feels that the emergence of Social Media is changing the hospitality scenario. “Autonomous online review sites like Trip Advisor receive an unprecedented number of reviews from travellers and guests. A study has revealed that almost 50 percent of consumers do not even make a booking at a hotel that has no
reviews. And over 70 percent make a decision about their choice of stay based on the reviews of travellers,” he says. He also mentioned about the changing food choices among the guests. According to Amit, today’s traveller is demanding and wants to experiment or try locally. This makes it necessary for the hotel establishment to know the region well in which they operate and serve the local flavours that are prepared in authentic styles.

I was looking for my first anniversary. As usual on a surprise note to my wife, I drove from Bangalore. We enjoyed the finest driveways reaching Mahabalipuram in perfect six hours. I saw a bright smile in my wife’s face once we walked into the inviting lobby which gave us the fabulous view of the ocean with the large pool-view and garden. Then I knew my first step to a memorable holiday had just began, We were ushered to an inviting suite having known that I had booked for my anniversary, the suite was well groomed for the occasion with petals in the bed and a bouquet with my love note appropriately timed for me
to give my personal welcome to my loving wife. My wife noted that Chef had placed a small note for us with his culinary courtesy which was very thoughtful. Our personal butler helped us unpack our luggage and gave us aquick entourage of the facilities at the resort. He told us Monuments was next door and the UNESCO heritage, Mahabalipuram ShoreTemple was in the walking distance and we have a variety of other activities such as Catamaran rides, cycling tours,Shell museum etc. to visit before sundown. He took our reservation for the Ayurveda Spa & suggested interesting
options we have to enjoy a great holiday. I liked his enthusiasm coupled with his humble attitude. We felt we are now being personally cared. It was time for our private spa session. First think which stuck me while I entered the Ayurvedic Wellness Spa was a stunning view of the ocean, one gets to experience while taking the special treatment. To my surprise there was interesting options of treatments to choose from and the inhouse Doctor & therapist helped me pick the appropriate choice. While my wife loved the beauty & rejuvenation treatment with a relaxing view, got her completely in the happy holiday mood. After the refreshing spa we freshened up and I decided it was time for a romantic dinner. I was informed, that we had two options, Kapi, the Multi-cuisine restaurant and Coast, the seafood restaurant. We decided on Coast, as my wife loves seafood. It was a beautiful beach side Sea food restaurant with several gazebo’s offering a spectacular view. We enjoyed a wonderful Seafood Dinner with savoring our favorite wine in a cozy gazebos which had a special décor making us a celebrity. We also received a complimentary cake, to celebrate our anniversary, which was very thoughtful by the team. What made our experience so special was being together and enjoying the excellent food in our personalizedspace and commendable service. The natural ambience, ocean air and the beach made our dinner truly memorable. We followed this, by have a quiet drink together, at Paanam, a very cozy bar, with a stunning variety of spirits, which my wife truly enjoyed, as she can be picky when it comes to alcohol. After this, we got back to our room, and had a wonderful night’s sleep, and woke up the following morning, feeling well rested. We enjoyed the early morning sunrise sipping our tea at the verandah, overlooking the lush lawn and the beach. We went to have an amazing and refreshing swim, at the Olympic sized

Post breakfast, we got the necessary directions from the front desk, and spent the day sightseeing, all what my wife wished to see, all barely a stone’s throw from the resort, and returned that afternoon very satisfied. Kovalam being a world renowned and well established beach destination continued to attract visitors from across the world all these years. Backwaters played a major role in making God’s own country a sought after destination and the major region that made this pull was the Vembanad Lake and both of it’s shores Kumarakom and Alappuzha along with the Kuttanad region.
