Saint Patrick’s Centre Get to know Ireland’s patron saint at the always-engrossing Saint Patrick Centre in the heart of Downpatrick. Our Place in Space March-October 2022 Our Place In Space is part of Unboxed Creativity in the UK - a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of creativity, taking place across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and online from March to October 2022. Centred around an epic scale model of the solar system designed by the artist Oliver Jeffers, Our Place in Space combines a three-dimensional sculpture trail, interactive AR app and exciting learning and events programmes. The Our Place in Space sculpture trail will stretch over 10 kilometres and will travel from a riverside location in Derry~Londonderry (April-May) to Divis and Black Mountain in Belfast (June-July), before heading to Cambridge (August) and returning to Northern Ireland at the Transport Museum and North Down Coastal Path (September-October). The project is being led by the Nerve Centre, with partners including NI Science Festival, National Museums NI, Queen’s University, Jeffers & Sons, Taunt and National Trust. You can find out more here: www.ourplaceinspace.earth/ Foyle Maritime Festival 20th-24th July 2022 The Foyle Maritime Festival 2022 will celebrate the hosting of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, due to arrive in Derry~Londonderry from Thursday, 14th
July onwards. As one of the designated ports for the race, Derry~Londonderry will be transformed into an international marina for five days with eleven yachts and race teams joining a range of visiting boats, Tall Ships and visiting navy vessels on the River Foyle. The event will unfold along a mile and a half of the riverfront. It will include a range of themed zones and performance spaces against a magical backdrop of live music performances, fantastic food, animated characters and shows as well as keynote events. On Friday, 22nd July, the showcase event will be staged. This dramatic spectacle will run throughout the festival zones with performances both on and off the water as well as in the air. Contributing to the spectacle will be the Parade of Light, with up to 40 boats sailing on the river, each one dressed with lights. The festival is a large-scale, interactive, outdoor event delivering a bespoke programme of entertainment. It will be one of the most engaging experiences on offer to local, regional and international visitors this year and is estimated to attract more than 150,000 people over five days. A key attraction of the festival is the stopover of the Clipper 2019/20 Race at Foyle Marina. (Delayed due to Covid, the race resumed in the Philippines in February of this year.)
