The 153rd Open, Royal Portrush
The Open Championship made a triumphant return to Northern Ireland in 2019 after 68 years, with Irish favourite Shane Lowry lifting the iconic Claret Jug at Royal Portrush. Now, the excitement builds as The 153rd Open heads back to the stunning County Antrim coast from 13th-20th July 2025 for the 153rd Championship. Travelling to Northern Ireland
If you are Belfast bound and travelling from Limerick, Wexford or Waterford, just head to Dublin and follow the motorway towards Belfast. Make the most of your journey and stop off in Newry en route for a spot of retail therapy at one of the shopping centres. Or, why not spend the afternoon in Westeros at the Game of Thrones® Studio Tour in Banbridge?
Heading to Tyrone and Fermanagh? Break up the journey and stop off at The Valley Hotel in Fivemiletown, or Blackwater Bar and Grill in Clogher.
If you are going North towards Belfast on the M1, a stop at the Linen Green at Moygashel is a must. From local boutiques to gorgeous coffee shops like the Loft Coffee Bar, it's worth the small detour off the motorway. For the Causeway Coastal Route, you could start your journey in Derry and spend a night in the Walled City or stop off in Carrickfergus, just north of Belfast, and admire its medieval beauty before exploring the rest of the Causeway Coastal Route.

Get there by boat
Take the Carlingford Ferry which connects the town of Greenore in County Louth with Greencastle in County Down, offering a convenient link between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. It’s a quick journey across the lough offering stunning views of the surrounding area.
Once you’ve arrived, the ferry is a great way to travel around and see some of Northern Ireland’s hidden gems. There’s the Rathlin Ferry, running between Ballycastle and Rathlin Island, or the Strangford Ferry, offering a picturesque journey between the villages of Strangford and Portaferry.

If you’re staying in Belfast, you'll find the Belfast Bikes bike hire scheme very handy with up to 600 bikes at 50 docking stations to explore the city and beyond. The Ormeau Road, Lisburn Road and West Belfast are all accessible via the bikes.
A brand new station in Belfast
Travelling to Belfast is about to get so much easier as Belfast Grand Central Station, a state-of-the-art transport hub, opens its doors in September, bringing a new era of public transport to Northern Ireland.
