Across Canada, the last weekend in September is known as Culture Days. This annual celebration of arts and culture is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and Guelph is ready for a party! The City is also participating in Culture Days’ Culture Trek initiative and invited local artist, Jessie Buchanan, a member of Aamjiwnaang First Nation, to share some itinerary ideas to showcase all that #GuelphCulture has to offer. Check out the full Culture Trek itinerary and learn more about Jessie at guelph.ca/culturedays. Jessie’s favourite places, spaces and events to fuel creative inspiration: • Art Gallery of Guelph • National Celebration of First Nations, Inuit and Métis People (June 21) • Miijidaa Café & Bistro • The Boathouse Tearoom • Art on the Street (June) • Necessary Arts Company • The Common • Guelph Studio Tour (October – weekend after Thanksgiving)

The Green Traveller

@project_easy_living Guelph Transit Bus @thetravellingpint, Civic Museum @guelphmuseums, Borealis Pasta Dish @Borealisguelph

Getting from A to B doesn’t need to be a burden on the planet. With an abundance to see (and eat!) in Guelph, tread lightly with public transit, and trust me when I say that the City of Guelph Transit Route 99 mainline takes you from farm to table, literally. This route is a full-circle service and will cut you through downtown (a stop that needs its own day). At the north end of the route you’ll find the Ignatius Jesuit Centre and Farm and its 15 kilometers of trails to walk, hike, snowshoe, and ski. Of course, no visit to Guelph is complete without a visit to Riverside Park that sits along the banks of the Speed River, coming together to form a naturalized landscape. Riding southbound, stop at the Guelph Civic Museum to experience Indigenizing Galt exhibition which shines a light on the founding story of Guelph and the Indigenous people of this area. A few bus stops away, is your mid-day resting spot at Earth To Table: Bread Bar, an eatery that offers a seasonal, hand-crafted menu.

12

visitguelphwellington.ca

Continue on your travels to the University of Guelph’s Arboretum and get lost for hours in a flora and fauna fantasy! With 400 acres of room to roam, you’ll be famished after. Hop back on the 99 to visit Borealis Grille and Bar, where the planet is a top priority and customers are encouraged to think globally and eat and drink locally. Sustainability and local craftsmanship is worth raising a glass to, so do it with their locally-sourced beers and wines. Did you know Guelph is one of the largest Canadian cities to rely almost exclusively on groundwater for its drinking water supply? Refill your bottle for free anywhere you see a BlueW logo. Come packed with your reusable bottles, straws and vessels as many places offer BYO discounts. Forgot to pack yours? Hit up Molloy’s on historic Carden Street in Downtown Guelph for plenty of low/no waste products. Don’t be green with envy. Be a green traveller.

Local Food Ambassador @100MileMark

I am an ambassador for Taste Real Local Food in Guelph and Wellington County. Enjoy my quick pix tour for a textbook eating experience on @UofG campus. The chefs at the University of Guelph have been serving the best food in the country for more than a decade and the school was recently awarded #1 food service at a Canadian University, by Maclean’s magazine (Universities Guidebook). #1 Creelman Hall @Creelman_hall For the best of #localfood on campus, visit the 100 Mile Grille. Check out the making of the famous (and one of my favourites), the Breakfast in Bread sandwich (with @ChefValerieJ), as seen on Episode 3 of @TasteDetours video series on YouTube. #2 University Centre Centre 6 If you’re searching for a flavour packed specialty lunch or dinner, look no further than inFusion kitchen. The focus is on Pan Asian ingredients but for pop-up menus… the Korean Bibimbap, Japanese Ramen and Shawarma are incredible.

#3 Gryphs Lounge Twin Pad Arena Gryphs hits the spot, to watch nightly sports or catch a live hockey game as it overlooks the Gryphon Centre red arena. They’ve got 30 big screen TVs, wings, pizza, nachos, wraps and daily features. Local brew is on tap too! #4 Caffeine Canteen @Cafcanteen If you love food trucks and @planetbean fair trade coffee, you’ve gotta stop for a cup of #GryphonBlend and a fresh doughnut at this truck. You can also grab a Gryphon blend coffee at the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics in the Planet Bean cafe. Even better, a percentage of purchases are donated back to scholarships for Gryphons women’s varsity athletes! #5 Creelman Bake Shop #CreelmanBakeshop You won’t see this location unless you’re on a backstage tour, but you can pick-up these delicious treats sold across campus. The chefs are turning out amazing specialty baked goods like cupcakes, pies, tarts, macaroons and my favourite… brownie bites.
