2016 bicycles

Dear readers, The 2016 bike year will once again bring a number of trends and innovations. Choosing the right product for you will be even harder – you, the consumer, are spoiled by choice, as they say. When leafing through our catalog, maybe not for the first time, you will see many products that you know from last year. Since the evolution of our products is extremely important to us, we have changed many small details again this year to make them even better. In our opinion, changes only make sense if they create an actual advantage for you in everyday life or when traveling. In addition, you will find a brand new segment this year, the X.Over series models. These were created for all cyclists who travel according to the motto «less is more». Less equipment, more experiences. With a minimal amount of luggage, you define the path and the destination – no matter if you’re traveling on paved roads or off-road far from civilization. With the X.Over models,

Our Xpress series has also grown to include The City II Xpress and the Chiyoda Xpress. These new stars in the biking world combine urban chic and a classic frame with the newest technologies in a one-of-a-kind way. Without a doubt, you will cause a bigger sensation than you might expect. We hope you are as enthusiastic about our big and small innovations as we are, as enthusiasm creates even more passion for biking. We hope you enjoy reading the catalog! Stephanie & Oliver Römer

On-road testing

MORE THAN JUST COLOR

Every tout terrain bicycle is custom-built. We don‘t have a production line or robots. All of our assemblers make bicycles entirely from start to finish and thus see what they have «created». Our environmentally friendly, in-house powder coating facility allows us to design a special product and to fulfill many requests. Each day, a committed team of cyclists creates products bearing the label «Made in Freiburg».

Product tests are an important component of product development. That‘s why we not only devote lots of time to testing the initial prototypes, but also to testing production products under real-world conditions. These practical tests are highly valuable, as they are carried out over many months by various people under a wide variety of conditions. Our requirements are maximum reliability and ruggedness with minimum maintenance effort. In addition, we perform laboratory stress tests according to established testing standards in order to back up our practical examinations through theoretical tests. We keep in personal contact with many of our customers and thus find out first-hand where our products can still be improved.

Like fashion, paint gives a product an individual, personal touch. However, the finish provides more than just the color. It‘s vital to a bicycle‘s longevity and is subjected to challenging demands, such as mechanical stress caused by daily use and the corrosive effects of road salt during year-round operation. Our in-house facility for finishing technology allows us to set up strict process controls for meeting these requirements and ensuring a consistently high level of quality. All of our bicycle frames and forks are painted in an elaborate five-stage process. The foundation is formed by pretreating the unfinished frame in order to seal and clean the surface, thus ensuring excellent paint adhesion. In the next step, primer is applied, which inhibits the penetration of moisture and provides corrosion protection. The next two process steps, painting and application of the protective transparent layer, ensure an attractive appearance. Finally, the frames undergo a complex finishing process, during which cavity sealing is performed on the frames.

DEVELOPMENT AND DESIGN All tout terrain products are developed and designed in Freiburg, Germany, at the edge of the Black Forest. New ideas are generated during daily use, from input provided by our customers, or from suggestions for improvement made by our test riders. The latest software, production expertise, and passion all come together to give rise to unique products. Conducting in-house development means that development times can be shortened and allows original, innovative ideas to be implemented rapidly. Thanks to our inhouse prototyping, we know not only how to produce a product in theory, but also in practice.

Ergonomics INNOVATION AND QUALITY tout terrain – innovation and quality is what we‘re about. We are focusing on developing and manufacturing sophisticated, innovative products that are consistently tailored to users and which provide maximum riding enjoyment, low maintenance, and a long lifetime. The focus is thus on the bicycle as a whole. The heart of the bike, the frame and the fork, are crucial to riding enjoyment and performance. However, as we all know, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Care and skilled craftsmanship are required to turn the best materials and the most innovative designs into a well-rounded product.

ERGOFIT Shifters from Rohloff, Pinion and Shimano have proven their functionality. You will find other highvalue components almost exclusively at tout terrain: Cinq, our own high-end brand Cranks with a lifetime warranty and hardcoated chain rings by Middleburn Virtually indestructible Chris King steering headsets, bottom brackets, and hubs Hub dynamos from SON, optionally with direct connection Lighting systems by Supernova Gates® Carbon Drive™ belt drive

In addition to a bicycle’s riding performance, the ergonomics of the components and thus your sitting position on the bike are decisive when it comes to comfort. These include all primary components with which you have direct contact such as grips, as well as secondary components which significantly affect the sitting position such as the handlebar or stem. Our Ergofit concept provides you with a selection of components covering a broad spectrum based on years of customer feedback. We use our own high-quality Black Label components, which are supplemented by especially ergonomic brands such as Syntace or Jeff Jones. To see the full overview, go to www.en.tout-terrain.de.

We offer new, innovative accessories that you won’t generally find elsewhere, which we have selected with care.

city safety Theft protection

Safety Safety is important to cyclists and manifests itself in different ways. Safety in road traffic is about avoiding accidents, while securing articles is important for guarding against theft. Our City Safety concept provides you with solutions for Safety and visibility in road traffic Theft protection According to the bicycle model, you can configure various safety solutions from these categories according to your needs. We can thus provide you with ideal protection for you and your bike. The issue of visibility is an especially high priority for cyclists, particularly year-round cyclists. When cycling in road traffic in autumn and winter and under poor light conditions, you are exposed to risks that need to be minimized. In addition to our high-quality lighting systems, we offer other solutions that increase your visibility in road traffic.

ABUS frame lock with optional chain

Supernova E3 PRO2

tout terrain Reflex Design is a reflective tape that is applied to the frame at various locations and protected by a transparent coating. It improves the visibility of your bicycle in daily traffic. During the day, it is inconspicuous and is not immediately recognizable as such. LED lighting systems improve visibility and sight for everyday riding. Regular riders in particular profit from high-quality and durable LED lighting systems, since these can also be used continuously in daytime mode. Disk brakes decrease braking distances, especially in wet conditions. All tout terrain bicycles are therefore factory-equipped with disk brakes, thus increasing your bike’s active safety.

PitLock tension axles

Theft protection is vital. The only way to reduce the risk of having your bicycle stolen is to take the appropriate measures. In addition to criminal gangs for whom even burglaries are routine, bicycles are often the targets of petty theft. Our goal is not only to prevent theft, but also to recover the bicycle as quickly as possible in the event of theft. We provide the following security options for this purpose: Locking is better than not locking: Even logical actions are not always carried out. When you’re out shopping, you don’t have time to waste. The perfect solution is an integrated frame lock from ABUS, which can be used on all tout terrain city bikes. You can supplement it with a chain made of hardened steel, which fits neatly and compactly into a special pocket on the bottle holder. Inbuss screws reduce the theft of bike parts. Standard on the seat post, which is particularly vulnerable, and optionally available for your wheels. Outfitting with PitLock tension axles is also recommended for high-value wheels. The specially coded fasteners can be opened only with a special tool.

Up to now, the chances of finding a stolen bicycle have been slim. Given the difficulty of identifying stolen bicycles and determining the owner of ones that are recovered, cases are only rarely resolved. tout terrain provides all its bicycles with an effective solution to this problem with the tout terrain bike finder, the theft protection system from CODE-No. com. Using this CODE number, owners can register their bicycles as their property at www.code-no.com. The online registration is free and there is no time limit. CODE-No.com identifies a bicycle anonymously and clearly, making it possible to identify bicycles and their owners using CODE-No.com. The CODE number also provides a clear indication of registration, thus acting as a deterrent.

THE ALL-AROUND BIKE

Amber Road XXL

The Amber Road is a trekking bike with the typical tout terrain features plus additional technical touches. It‘s the perfect all-around bike for those who prefer large-volume 28-inch tires for everyday cycling or weekend tours. Field and gravel roads along the way become much more fun to ride. Besides the steering stop, chromoly fork for disc brakes, and the eccentric bottom bracket with «VBA» for adjusting the belt line precisely, the Amber Road uses the 3-in-1 dropout design. This innovative dropout has a sandwich design that allows the conversion from derailleur shifting to belt drive for the first time, providing maximum drive flexibility. The geometry of the Amber Road was specially matched to the large-volume 28-inch tires, thereby retaining a sporty look while offering the comfort and rolling characteristics of a 28-inch wheel.

The Amber Road is also available in an XXL Version for people between 195 cm (6’ 5”) and 205 cm (6’ 9”) tall. TIME FOR A NEW EXPERIENCE The term «Bikepacking» is showing up more and more often in magazines, blogs and other articles. This term covers a number of different concepts, but they all have one thing in common: They describe the desire to get off the beaten path. Everyone has a different way of pursuing this target, and that‘s why it‘s irrelevant which type of bike is used. If you google this word, you come across very different interpretations and application scenarios, from the classic touring bike to mountain bikes loaded with bags to the racing bike. The idea of traveling with a bike is not new and described by different terms such as bike trips or randonneuring. Currently, there is a new aspect to traveling with a bike: «bikepacking». The basic idea of bike touring, traveling long routes on a bike and remaining as independent as possible concerning food and accommodation while doing so, goes back to the first Paris–Brest–Paris long distance race in 1931, the first «randonnée à vélo». Many different types of touring bikes have sprung up since then whose differences we will list for you in the following.

© Cass Gilbert

Every one of our Expedition and X.Over models are well-suited as touring bikes in their own special way. The biggest differences between a classic touring bike and a «bikepacking» bike is the way the luggage is carried and the focus on off-road capability.

from Randonneur to Bikepacker

RANDONNEUR

TOURING BIKE

BIKEPACKING and BIKEPACKING+

Actually, the original form of the randonneur (French: wanderer; in French the feminine form «randonneuse» is used) is a real racing bike. Due to the long distances on the seat and the desire for more comfort, a special model was developed over time which is characterized by a more comfortable geometry. Today, it means a mix of a racing and touring bike. This bike is for the athletic long-distance rider who is self-sufficient and covers large distances quickly and on asphalt-covered streets and roads. A randonneur is a 28“ touring bike with comparably small street tires and a large gear ratio. Racing handlebars are often used for comfort, which also enable easy grip changes and aerodynamic positions at the same time. Since many trips also take place at night, randonneurs are also equipped with a number of lights.

Touring bikes are real long-distance bikes specially designed by bike travelers. Reliability is the utmost priority since you can be in areas without bike shops for days or weeks at a time. Touring bikes must be able to carry everything you need to survive and still ride and brake safely with a lot of luggage. Touring bikes have comfortable frame geometries and are designed for big loads thanks to thicker tube dimensions and more durable components. Steel is the frame material of choice due to its superior permanent load and ductile properties. The vehicle load capacity for touring bikes is up to 160 kg, meaning equipment for long tours can be transported without a problem. The panniers are fastened on the rack and low rider, and the center of gravity of the weight is rather low to ensure smooth riding and good road conditions. Touring bikes are the ultimate bikes for expeditions and long distances because they can support themselves as they have the reserves to transport a tent and plenty of water. More comfortable models can be spring-mounted for routes with a large amount of gravel. Touring bikes typically feature a dynamo system, whether for lighting the bike or supplying it with power to operate GPS devices.

A puristic bike without additional equipment such has mud guards or lights; the philosophy behind «bikepacking» is just the necessary luggage and supporting yourself for as many kilometers as possible. The difference from the other two categories is the offroad performance of the bikes. Nearly any path can be conquered with the wide off-road tires. The bags are attached to the bike using belts and Velcro straps. The bags are positioned high up on the bike to ensure the ground clearance you need on terrain to prevent getting stuck on roots or stones. BIKEPACKING+ breaches the gap between classical touring bikes and the puristic bikepacking models. The bikes are more touring bikes, but with the bags, the bikepacking features come to good use. BIKEPACKING+ is more flexible than a pure bikepacking model and also makes long tours with more luggage possible. The front and rear racks offer a lot of options for transporting tents and other bulky pieces of equipment while maintaining the athletic properties and range of action. The additional load should not exceed 15 kg for both application areas so as not to impair the sporty handling of the bikes.

Stylish on tour Like the Silkroad, the 5th Avenue has also been completely redesigned. It retains its lightness and quickness thanks to the slim 28-inch wheels. The foundation is formed by the new frame of the Silkroad touring bike which is fabricated from multi-butted chromoly steel tubing by Dedacciai. The selection of shifter and drive types is extensive, and the Gates® Carbon Drive™ provides the latest technology. The integrated Ergo-Stop steering stop is also included in this model. The wires can be cut relatively short and no longer dangle wildly, but are protected from severing (lighting cables) and are extremely low-friction (shifter cables). The 5th Avenue is also available in the Gran Turismo (GT) version, now with the Shift:R thumb shifter, thus making it well suited for long journeys while retaining the convenience of a Rohloff hub.

FOR HILL AND DALE The 5th Avenue Xplore has all the ingredients needed for the grand Alpentour or for gentle gliding. Its fascinating features include light, slim 28-inch wheels and a Pinion drive with an optimized center of gravity. The foundation is formed by a frame fabricated from multi-butted chromoly steel tubing by Dedacciai. The Pinion gearbox, a visionary product of German engineering, is centrally integrated into the frame. For this purpose, we developed the special, weight-optimized TBA retainer that makes possible tensioning of the belt or the chain without a chain tensioner or moving the dropout. Combined with a steel frame and on a touring bike, this gearbox is ideal for carefree cycling. With 18 gears, the gearbox provides a wide gear range with extremely fine ratios, giving it the required variety for steep hills and valleys. The central position of the gearbox provides a balanced weight and therefore safe handling. The lower rotating mass of the rear wheel provides lots of riding agility.

A HIGHLY MODERN CLASSIC The Silkroad has been our DNA since 2005. It is the touring bike of choice for cycling globetrotters for expeditions. The latest generation has been completely redesigned in order to handle the greatest challenges. Almost all components have been modified as part of the redesign in 2015 in order to make a great bike even better. But don’t be surprised if you don’t see the changes at first glance – we still believe that less is more. The drive unit has been completely redesigned. The frame is now separable and compatible with the Gates® Carbon Drive™ frame. It goes without saying that proven technology is used, such as the VBA System and our universal 3-in-1 dropout. This innovative dropout has a sandwich design that allows the conversion from derailleur shifting to belt drive for the first time, providing maximum drive flexibility. New cable routing for brakes and shifters with uninterrupted cable housings reduce maintenance intervals and nestle against the frame more elegantly. The central stand and the optional bipod kickstand make the Silkroad safe even when it is fully loaded. The Silkroad is also available in the Gran Turismo (GT) version with racing handlebars and Shift:R.

THE JEWEL IN THE ELITE CLASS The latest innovations never stop, even for the Silkroad Xplore. The most challenging demands serve as our yardstick. The Silkroad Xplore has therefore been significantly updated to make it belt drive-compatible. The Pinion gearbox, which was developed by German designers who had previously worked in Porsche‘s transmission center, is integrated into the Silkroad Xplore frame. Our exclusive TBA System facilitates the tensioning of the belt or the chain, meaning that a chain tensioner is no longer required. Together with a steel frame and on a touring bike, this combination is ideal for carefree cycling. With 18 gears, the gearbox provides a wide gear range with excellent ratios, making it ideal for long-distance cyclists. The central arrangement of the gearbox provides a balanced weight and therefore perfect handling. The lower rotating mass of the rear wheel also provides more riding agility. The new dropouts and the updated cable routing facilitate the installation of a mechanical disk brake.

13 600 km of ups and downs On their 30th birthday, brothers Paul and Hansen Hoepner leave Berlin for an unbelievable journey. What they don’t know yet is that it will be the trip of their lives, Paul and Hansen #1

with moments of great happiness, but also seemingly hopeless situations.

There we lie in a small ditch in the middle of

the wastelands of Kazakhstan, more than 3000 kilometers from home, hiding from Sasch and his drunken band of thugs who had just stopped us on the country road and beaten us up. We are hiding with everything you need if you want to take an amazing but perhaps completely crazy bike ride from Berlin to Shanghai: a small tent, sleeping bags, tools and knives, clothes, a compass and map, a small solar panel for power supply, cameras to record the trip, and our passports – not much, but every tiny piece is all the more crucial. In our oversized blue and white striped long-sleeved shirts, we look a bit like escaped convicts. The shirts are made of cheap fabric, but our tight budgets wouldn’t allow for anything else. We had bought them in a supermarket somewhere on the side of the road in Russia and cut holes for our thumbs in the arms. This protects us a bit from the sun and they blow up like little sails, which pleasantly cools our backs. At some point we realized that many truck drivers wear the same shirts. So now

we’re a part of the team of the road. There were some moments in the last six weeks in which I wished I were back in my bed in my nice, sunny old flat in Berlin-Neukölln, but those were only small, sentimental moments of weakness. Now, at this moment, I have real doubts for the first time. What an appallingly bad idea! How naïve of us to think the entire world would be friendly to two luggage-laden bikers. I think about the photograph by Michael Rockefeller I saw three years ago in the Metropolitan Museum in New York. It was of a blond, pale young man with a button-down shirt, glasses and camera between a couple of wild-looking indigenous people in New Guinea. He disappeared shortly after and was never seen again. Maybe eaten by a crocodile, maybe by the Asmat people themselves … I feel nauseous. Of course, Kazakhstan is a friendly, somewhat civilized country. People don’t eat bicyclists here, but there’s no reason they wouldn’t rob and beat them up to drive the romantic Occidental ideas

out of their heads. The sun is slowly setting behind us, and the road at some distance from us is only identifiable through the row of bushes and the reflections of single passing cars. My heart jumps into my throat

As the kickstand I built for my bike slowly sinks into the sandy ground behind us with a low scratching sound, I wince. My heart jumps into my throat. «Hansen,» I hiss at my twin brother, who is squatting next to me and hiding his head between his arms. Hansen mumbles something. «Hansen, what are we doing?» If this whole thing were a horror movie and I was watching it in a movie theater, I would yell at the characters: «Run away, go! You’re in danger!» But I’m not in a movie theater, I’m crouching, stiff from fear, somewhere in a foreign country. I hear Hansen swearing and imagine he is currently having similar thoughts. The ditch we’re lying in is the only hiding place far and wide, so where can we go? To the vast grasslands of the steppe? We can’t ride on the sandy

ground, especially not with so much luggage. If we left our bikes behind now to run away, we would have to give up, I think to myself, and as if he had read my mind, Hansen says: «Paul, they won’t find us here. They’re stronger, but we’re smarter. And faster. If push comes to shove, we can run away, leave our stuff and not give a shit. I’d rather walk to Shanghai than let them get me! The day had begun like many before it. It was our 43rd day of travel and we left in the morning to cover our average of 120 kilometers, buy food, look for a place to sleep, fall into bed exhausted and start again the next morning. And so on and so on. We had had strong headwinds all day and had to ride to a small village called Algabas, about five kilometers away from our route, to get water at around 8 at night. At the entrance to the village, we were met by a group of children who cheerfully accompanied us to the village store. While Hansen bought supplies, I waited by the bikes. The kids played curiously but carefully with our

bags, my telephone and the cameras. A couple of them sat on my lap and took a picture with the camera mounted on the front of my bike. As Hansen appeared a few minutes later laden with water and we got on our way, the kids ran along with us until we reached the exit to the village. We’ve been in love with the country since we crossed the border to Kazakhstan on May 12th. «Kazakhstan normal»? Hansen sometimes asks me when I gaze dreamily into the landscape. And every time, I answer «da!», which means «yes!» What exactly «Kazakhstan normal» means, we don’t really know, but probably something like: «do you like Kazakhstan?» or ➤ two to shanghai 55

Six questions for the Hoepner brothers How did you choose the route Berlin – Shanghai? We wanted to go as far East as possible on our bikes, and we wanted to route to be diverse. What is important for successfully completing such a trip? First and foremost, simply starting to ride. Then you have to have a lot of stamina, particularly mental stamina. And of course you need equipment that can handle anything. Did you ever think of quitting? Yes, we often thought of it. But actually giving up is usually harder than simply going on. I have a huge amount of respect for people who can actually give up instead of stubbornly going on, even if it doesn’t make sense anymore. How can you motivate yourself to keep going in moments of physical and mental exhaustion? You think about dinner, about your bed. And about the big goal. We usually have such «moments of weakness» at different times – luckily – so we can also motivate each other. Did you meet people along the way who you’ll never forget? Yes, countless people, both positive and negative. It would be too much to list them all. In general, however, our experience was that hospitality and helpfulness is particularly strong in Central Asia. How did you feel when you finally reached your goal? Really, really tired! And relieved, but we didn’t have any energy for big emotions, and as is so often the case, you need some time to realize what you’ve accomplished. Paul and Hansen Hoepner have recorded their experiences in a blog. A book and a film about their trip have also come out.

«Kazakhstan good?» We hear this question no matter where we go, and we always get a firm clap on the shoulder and a wide smile when we answer «da!» In Russia, the people were much more suspicious of us, but here in Kazakhstan, we’re constantly being stopped because people want to have their picture taken with us. As compensation, they offer us bananas, cigarettes or even money. In the stores, they often give us a discount or a little gift – mosquito repellant, candy or sausages. «Kazakhstan rocks» Hansen keeps saying, making a fake cool face and giving the sign of the horns to the sky. Exactly, Kazakhstan rocks – at least until this moment at the exit of Algabas. Nowhere to hide

We had just started to pick up speed again when we are overtaken by a silver Ford Galaxy, pushed to the side of the road and forced to stop. At first we think it’s one of the «photo sessions», which is what Hansen and I call the sometimes almost intrusive request for a picture. But we quickly see that all the passengers are completely trashed. Sasch, as they call the drunkest one, and the other two passengers have no interest in pictures. Sasch, big and fat, rears up in front of us. «Why don’t you speak Russian?» he yells, bringing his rotten-smelling mouth closer and closer to my face. He’s foaming at the mouth. He pushes his massive chest in a filthy, sweaty white T-shirt towards me and scrapes the sandy road surface menacingly with his worn flip-flops. We can hardly understand anything he’s saying, which makes him even angrier. His henchman is a lanky guy with short black hair and

Tibetian prayer wheels

a thin spotty beard. We can only vaguely see the third guy because he has remained sitting behind the tinted windows of the van, probably to be able to follow us quickly should we try to get away. We stand there, bikes clamped between our legs, no way to escape. Jumping off and running is no good. Sure, that would be more practical, but what happens to our bikes? The guy in the van would probably run them over for fun. And even if we did run – where would we go? There is nowhere to hide in this barren wasteland. Sasch tries to drag us off our bikes, but we somehow

Sasch first hits Hansen in the stomach, causing him to bend over his handlebars in pain, then it’s my turn. I flex my stomach muscles and try to keep away from him, but Sasch’s craven henchman is standing behind me, holding my bike still. He keeps yelling hysterically «ride, go ahead and ride, you weakling», just to grab onto our luggage racks as soon as we have taken a step and burst out in cackling laughter. Like a savage, Sasch starts to tear the mounted cameras off our bikes and throw them on the ground. Then he pulls my iPhone out of the holder and stuffs it in his pocket with a smirk so he can give me another proper smack. But this time he misses me. ❂

FOR LIMITLESS DISTANCES We‘ve inserted the Silkroad‘s DNA into the Tanami, thereby creating a remarkable touring bike. It has many of the Silkroad‘s features, but the geometry has been specifically adapted to the large-volume 29-inch tires, making this bike the top choice for travelers who are looking for good rolling characteristics and comfort. The Tanami can optionally be equipped with a chain drive or belt drive and is based on the current Silkroad generation. The narrow stainless steel rack of the Silkroad class is optimized for touring and has attachment points and integrated light cable routing. Its adapted geometry makes it highly suited for tall people who need riding ergonomics that differ from what is possible with 26-inch wheels. The Tanami XXL is specially tailored for people between 195 cm (6‘ 5“) and 205 cm (6‘ 9“) tall. Both the tubing dimensions and the components have been matched to meet these requirements. We use the new SuperC fork for all XXL sizes, which is stronger and more rugged and can accommodate disk brakes up to 203 mm.

THE ROAD TRAIN AMONG THE XPLORES The Tanami Xplore is the 29-inch expedition bike in the Xplore family. It‘s the universal bicycle for all long-distance and frequent riders who prefer large-volume 28-inch tires and who appreciate the broad gear range of the Pinion gearbox. We like to call the Tanami Xplore the «big brother» of the Silkroad, as it has the same DNA. It`s the perfect choice for tall people who need different riding ergonomics and who prefer large wheels. The geometry of the Tanami Xplore was specially matched to the large-volume 29-inch tires, thereby retaining a sporty look while offering the comfort and rolling characteristics of a 29-inch wheel. The narrow integrated rack is from the Silkroad class and optimized for touring. components have been matched to meet these requirements.

ARRIVING RELAXED Great adventures, long days cycling, arriving relaxed. The Panamericana will give you a unique cycling experience – it‘s comfortable, rigid, and solid. A full-suspension touring bike with no compromises. It‘s the world‘s only touring bike made of steel, providing a reliable and systematically elaborated way to transport all your luggage on a suspension. Here‘s the secret: the tout terrain design with the integrated, securely welded stainless steel rack. Never before has it been possible to ride even heavily loaded panniers so comfortably and smoothly even on the worst routes. There is no denying the comfort enjoyed when the road changes from asphalt to cobblestone or gravel, in which case the suspension travel is greatly appreciated. The Panamericana is available with an internal gear hub or derailleur shifting and can also be retrofitted.

WELCOME TO THE FUTURE Hardly any bike combines modernity and tradition like the Panamericana Xplore. The advantages of steel as a working material, the suspension, and the central gearbox make for a unique riding experience. With the Panamericana Xplore, we‘ve succeed in further optimizing the full-suspension Panamericana. The central position of the gearbox makes the riding performance of the Panamericana even more agile. In addition to the Panamericana‘s core features, the Xplore version offers 18 genuine gears with equal gear ratios of approximately 11.5 percent. The combination of a full-suspension touring bike with the Pinion gearbox is ideal, since the chain stay and wheel exhibit greater deflection sensitivity thanks to the reduced unsprung mass and are relieved of drive influences due to varying chain tension starting points. The low, central center of gravity and a lighter rear wheel improve handling, suspension and riding dynamics. In addition to full suspension and a Pinion gearbox, the Panamericana Xplore offers the typical tout terrain features.
