HOW TO DO CPR

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR for short, is a simple life-saving technique given to someone in cardiac arrest. It aims to take over the job of the heart and lungs by keeping blood and oxygen flowing through the body.

1 2 3 4 5 6 7

CHECK FOR DANGER

Look around for risks to make sure you won’t be putting yourself in danger by helping.

CHECK FOR RESPONSE

Gently shake the person by the shoulders and ask if they can hear you.

SHOUT FOR HELP

If you don’t get a response and the person is not breathing or not breathing normally (do not put your face next to theirs when checking), they are in cardiac arrest and you should shout for someone to help you.

CALL 999

Call 999 and make sure an ambulance is on its way. You will be talked through what to do and given the location of a defibrillator if there is one nearby.

COVER MOUTH AND NOSE WITH CLOTH

If you think there is a risk of infection, place a cloth, towel or piece of clothing loosely over the patient’s mouth and nose.

START HANDS-ONLY CPR

Put your two hands together and interlock your fingers, place your hands in the centre of the chest and push hard and fast to the beat of Stayin’ Alive or Baby Shark. Keep going until professional help arrives or the person starts to regain consciousness.

USE A DEFIBRILLATOR Please see our ‘How to use a defibrillator’ poster.

Lawyers Club History The “Lawyers” were founded in 1890 and became founder members of the Auckland and District League in 1892. The following year they won the Durham Amateur Cup. They first joined the Northern League in 1894, winning the Durham Challenge Cup two years later. After leaving the Northern League the Lawyers played in the South Durham Alliance (1900 to 1905) and Crook and District League (1912 to 1914). After the war the club played in the Auckland and District League until being readmitted to the Northern League in 1920 where it has played ever since. Until 1994/95 season the club had not won the championship apart from two successive seasons 1923/24 and 1924/25. In between the League Cup was won in 1973/74 when Ashington were beaten 2-1 in the final at Crook. The 1994/95 League Championship win is a certainly an outstanding memory for the club especially as it was won by 14 clear points. Another outstanding memory was the tremendous F.A. Cup run of 1967/68. Having reached the first round Tow Law beat Mansfield 5-1 and in the second round drew 1-1 with Shrewsbury at Ironworks Road. The Lawyers went into the hat for the Third Round and drew a home tie with Arsenal. Sadly, it was not to be after they went down 6-2 at Shrewsbury in the replay. Frank McGee reported after the replay “Arsenal were saved from a fate worse than death - a trip to Tow Law in January”.

the ground is down to the regular work which has been done since 1921 by many hardworking bands of voluntary labour. A major scare occurred early in the 2004/05 season, the playing surface was struck by subsidence, rendering it unplayable. The Club was forced to ground share at Esh Winning for the remainder of the season, whist repairs were carried out by the Coal Board. Continuity at the club was provided by the longest serving trio of officials in the League, Chairman Harry Hodgson, Treasurer Harry Dixon and Club Secretary Bernard Fairbairn who followed his father and grandfather into the job.) They had over 100 years’ service between them. Harry Hodgson stood down as Chairman at the end of the 95/96 season. At the end of 1997 Harry Dixon also stood down but stayed on as the Club President until his death in 2002. Harry Hodgson took over as President. Bernard Faribairn stepped down as Secretary in 2007 after being in the post since 1961 – over 40 years. “A prisoner would get less for murder.

Peter Quigley and Tony Heslop took the Club on its first visit to Wembley was made on 9th May 1998 after a tremendous F.A. Vase run. It was a splendid adventure which sadly ended with a 1-0 defeat by Tiverton.

During 2004, Harry Hodgson again showed his devotion to the Club, returning as Chairman for 1 last year. Following the 2004/05 season he was replaced by Sandra Gordon, the first female Chair at the Club and only the third in the long history of the League.

The Lawyers first ground was in Church Lane, but the present Ironworks Road ground was built by volunteers during the miners’ strike of 1892/93. Ironically it was rebuilt during another miners strike in 1921. Today the much-improved state of

Famous ex-players include Billy Hall who played for Blackpool and Manchester City, Chris Waddle who transferred to Newcastle in 1980 & Steve Howard of Leicester City.

Tadcaster Albion History Formed in 1892. The club is believed to have been formed in 1892 as John Smith’s FC. It was not until 1923 that the Tadcaster Albion AFC name was adopted. In the early years, the club played in the local York League. Which they won in 1948. They continued competing in the York League during the 1950’s & 60’s. In the early days, they played home games on the site of the cricket ground on Station Road, before moving to the Ings ground, near to where the Samuel Smith Brewery Packaging Block now stands. Changing facilities were in the town, at the rear of the Falcon Public House on Chapel Street. It was common to see nets, corner flags, buckets, oranges, players and officials trekking through the town. In 1960, when the club moved 100 yards up river to its present home. In 1973 the club joined the Yorkshire League Division 3 and were promoted in 1975 & 1977 to reach Division 1; relegation was to follow in 1979 & 1980. In 1982/83 they became a founding member of the Northern Counties East League, originally in the NCEL Division Two North before league reorganisations led them to Division One in 1991. They rarely finish in the top half of the league in the 1990’s and finished bottom in 2001/02 & 2003/04. At the start of 2004/05, Jim Collis became manager and fortunes began to improve dramatically. In his first season, Albion finished 5th in the league and the following year 3rd, almost promotion! Jimmy Reid took over as manager in 2006, but his time was blighted by off the field problems. An attempted hostile takeover and attempted arson attack on the clubhouse caused much damage. Paul Marshall took over at the start of 2008/09, in his first season he played mostly local players and the team struggled and finished 17th. In 2009/10, with an influx of a few new key players, Albion won the NCEL Division One title and the club became a company limited by guarantee. Albion finished fourth in their first season in the NCEL Premier Division and won the NCEL President’s Cup, beating Farsley AFC 5-1 in the final. That was followed by an 8th place finish in 2011/12 and 6th in 2012/13. In the 2013/14 season i2i Sports Ltd agreed to take effective control of the club and company, with Matthew Gore becoming the new chairman. In 2014/2015 the Brewers lead the NCEL Premier for a good while, finally finishing in third. An excellent run saw them make history by making it through to the Quarter 26

Tow Law Town AFC “The Lawyers”

Final of the FA Vase where they drew a record - breaking crowd of 1,307 but were narrowly beaten by Highworth Town. At the end of the season Paul Marshall left and former Harrogate Railway boss Billy Miller took over. In 2015/2016 the Brewers lead the NCEL Premier for most of the season once again, but this time they held their nerve and finished Champions with a 2-1 home win over Armthorpe Welfare. They also made it to the League Cup Final but went down in a thrilling 3-2 game to Cleethorpes Town. In 2016/2017 , their first ever season in the Northern Premier First Division North, a mix of old and new players saw Billy Miller use all of his experience and knowledge of this division. The Brewers started well and were in the play-off spots when injury problems hit and they finished 19th in the league. The management team departed with Michael Morton and Simon Collins taking over. 2017/18 season saw the team quickly finding its feet as the fortunes took a turn for the better after the new year with Michael & Simon steering the club to its highest ever finish reaching the play-offs after a dramatic final day. This once again brought massive excitement amongst the club and town but unfortunately it ended in semi-final defeat 2-1 at Bamber Bridge despite taking the lead and putting in a valiant performance. The 2018/19 season saw the Brewers move into the Northern Premier East Division after the league switched from a North/South divide to an East/West split. It was again positive for the club finishing just outside the play-off places in 7th having been in the top six for most of the season. At the end of this campaign Simon Collins decided to step down and several players moved onto new clubs. 2019/20 Former professional footballer and boxer, Curtis Woodhouse took charge, initially having only four players on the books. He built a new squad and for the first 3 months of the season we began to look like promotion contenders. Curtis left the club at the end of October and Paul Quinn inherited the mantle with Steve Waide as his assistant. The second half of the season was overshadowed by four devastating floods at the Stadium , before Covid 19 brought everything to an impromptu finish . 2020/21. Paul and Steve reorganised the playing Management over the summer months with support teams to deal with the analytical side of things. Thirteen of the previous season’s squad renewed their contracts and it was looking good for a play-off place when Covid struck again. 2021/22 With the unexpected departures of Paul Quinn and Steve Waide, the opening matches were a great disappointment. However, the appointment of the experienced John Deacey as team Manager plus Andy Monkhouse as his Assistant, ensured that we were able to maintain our NPL status, in what proved to be a challenging season. 2022/23 John and Andy are continuing in their management roles and with the benefit of a pre-season, will put their own stamp on the squad. There are several new faces and hopes are high. Tow Law Town AFC “The Lawyers”

Tadcaster Albion Pen Pics John Deacey (Manager): John joined us in September 2021 and has a wealth of experience managing at the top of the non-league pyramid with clubs such as Farsley Celtic, Scarborough Athletic and Bradford Park Avenue where he was in the hot seat for eight consecutive years. Andy Monkhouse (Assistant Manager): Andy was officially appointed at the same time as John Deacey. He holds a UEFA A Licence . His coaching is second to none and was a great contributing factor to last season’s great escape. Lee Elam (First Team Coach): Forty-Five-year-old Lee joins us from Eccleshill United where he was the Manager for the previous three years. Before that he was PDP lead coach and Youth team manager at Bradford City for several seasons. He holds both UEFA A and B qualifications. Richard Leeming (Kit Manager): York based Richard has a long history of successfully managing local football teams in the York area. He was asked by Nelly Sanderson last season if he would like to help out at Taddy and jumped at the opportunity to succeed his old friend in the role. Richard’s extensive knowledge of the game has quickly made him an integral and valuable part of the management team. Nathan Fennell (Physio): Nathan joined the club during the summer recess having worked previously for Hartlepool United, York City and most recently the 30

Pickering Town Scholarship section. Twenty-Four-year-old Nathan was a graduate from the University of Central Lancashire where he obtained a degree in Sports Therapy. He runs his own physiotherapy business but is delighted to have joined The Brewers where the scope is much wider than at his previous clubs and he is enjoying the responsibility. Cody Cromack (Central Midfield): Cody joined us during the summer recess from Worksop where last season he was vice captain. After joining the Farsley Celtic Academy as a first-year player for the 2014/2015 season, he was snapped up by Liversedge at the age of just seventeen. He then moved on to Pontefract where he was part of the team that secured back-to-back promotions from NCEL Division One to The Northern Premier Division One East. Cody is a great reader of the game and a dynamo in the middle of the park who has really impressed during pre-season. His ability to score from distance is an added bonus. Brett Agnew (Striker ): Former Bridlington Manager/ Striker, Brett Agnew joined us during the close season. In his time with the Seasiders, he made 128 appearances, scoring seventy-three goals along the way. Brett was born in Scotland where he had considerable success on the semi pro circuit with firstly West Calder and then Rutherglen. Curtis Woodhouse moved to Taddy and Brett’s offer to help temporarily lasted 3 years! He is a natural leader up front but will battle back in defence when duty calls. Corey Roper (Midfield): Corey, a former player of the season, returned to Tadcaster two years ago having left the Brewers at the end of the 2018/19 season when an offer to test himself at Northern Premier League Whitby Town, proved irresistible. However, Increased work commitments and associated travelling were our good fortune. He joined Leeds United as a junior at the age of seven, going onto play for their Under 18 and Under 21 teams. In 2014 he joined Wrexham for three seasons. A dead ball specialist, a tough midfield dynamo who leads by example. Dan Hartley (Central Defence): Dan started with us towards the end of the 2019/20 season and we have seen him develop consistently to become a first team regular. He shows commitment and tenacity far beyond his years Dan attended the UFCA in Leeds and Evolution Sports Academy before joining Harrogate Town Under 23’s, which he captained. Although a natural central defender, Dan is equally adept on either side and his ability to get down the flanks is a bonus, as are his throw ins. Calm on the ball - a rock in defence. Jack Crook (Defence/Midfield): Twenty-year-old Jack was an integral member of Harrogate Town Under 23’s, Rossington Main and Albion Sports. His ideal position is centre midfield but he is happy either side or in the back four. He also is more than capable to mix it up front and can be lethal in front of goal. Light on his feet for such a tall player. This

will be his third season with us. Romario Vieira (Attacking Midfield): Former Leeds United midfielder Romario Vieira re-joined the club in October 2020. He came through the i2i Academy before a short spell with us in 2016. At that stage he joined his brother, Ronaldo Vieira, who was already a first team player at Elland Road but was released two years later. The attacking midfielder has represented his native Guinea-Bissau national team, and also holds Portuguese and English nationality. Likes to play just behind the frontmen. Creative player who gives 110%. Kesi Omolokun (Defence): Kesi was on the books at Bradford City from the age of ten but after a loan spell at Scarborough Athletic joined the Aberdeen Development Squad on a one-year deal in 2016. On his return to Yorkshire, he felt he had lost his love of the games and over recent seasons had only managed a few outings for local Bradford teams such as Eccleshill United and Albion Sports. Having been persuaded to trial with Tadcaster his desire to continue his playing career has been restored. He can play anywhere in the back four and is more than happy up front if needed. Mark Ferguson (Striker): 26-year-old Mark signed earlier this year from North West Counties Campion AFC, where he had already hit fourteen goals last season. The 6’ 1” Leeds born Mark joined Campion in 2021 having spent two years at Glasshoughton and Garforth before that. He has already proved to be very adaptable in the centre or on the right and is comfortable in midfield as well ,although up front is where he is most at

home. Quickly amongst the goals after signing for Taddy he also possesses an incredible throw. Has had an excellent pre season. Jordan Deacey (Attacking Midfield): The experienced 27-year-old attacking midfielder joined Taddy from local rivals Pickering Town and has an extensive record in non-league having played for Bradford Park Avenue, AFC Telford United, Farsley Celtic, Boston United, Shaw Lane AFC, North Ferriby United and Ossett Town amongst others. He signed for Scarborough Athletic in 2019 before spells at Brighouse and Pickering Town. Jordan was part of BPA squad that won promotion to the National North in 2012. Jack Carr (Attacking Midfield): Fast attacking midfielder Jack joined us from Knaresborough Town where he was a regular member of the squad the season before last. His first game was away to Sheffield where he displayed all the skill and enthusiasm that initially impressed manager John Deacey. He is happy to play wide or through the middle. He is a natural goal scorer and loves nothing more than driving at defences. He also had a spell at left wing back last season due to an injury crisis but will always get forward and never stops running. Chris Howarth (Defender): The experienced defender/midfielder, Chris Howarth re-joined Tadcaster in January from Liversedge. His first stint with the Brewers started in time for the 2017/18 season and he turned out for us for two seasons. He has played for John Deacey on three occasions previously (Farsley Celtic, Bradford Park Avenue and most recently Scarborough Athletic) He 32

started his career in 2003 at Harrogate Railway, before he eventually moved on to Bradford Park Avenue where he made over 100 appearances in the National North League. Tom Goddon (Defence/Midfield): Tom has recently returned to the UK after a spell in the USA. He made his first appearance for us in last seasons’ away fixture at Lincoln United and was a key member of the squad that battled so hard to retain our place in the Northern Premier league East. Still young but one to watch for the future. Josh Grant (Defender): Josh Grant first played for the Brewers in the two seasons after our promotion from the NCEL Premier. He is a natural left back but can be equally effective in central midfield. Another dead ball specialist. He signed for Farsley Celtic in 2010 before a short spell at Frickley from where he had his first stint with the Brewers. He joined Ossett Albion just before the merger with Ossett Town and from there it was off to Brighouse in the summer of 2019. For the start of the 2021/22 season Josh had a brief spell with high flying Liversedge but by October was back at Brighouse. Jack Johnson (Defence): Jack joined the club at the end of the last season from Pickering Town for whom he had played for the last two years. He is natural right back but is equally happy in central defence or midfield if needed. Born and still living in Kippax, Leeds, Jack was on Doncaster Rovers books between the ages of 8 and 16 after which he signed youth papers with FC Halifax. At the age of eighteen he moved onto Scarborough Athletic where he stayed for three years.

From the Seadogs, Jack signed for Pickering Town in the summer of 2020 and was ever present right up to the Pikes relegation last season from the Northern Premier East .During that spell he made forty-five appearances scoring six goals as well. Declan McGivern (Central Defence): Dec is another summer signing who first came to our attention when playing for Ossett United last season. Before that he had joined Runcorn Linnets on his return from Cleveland Ohio where he successfully studied for an MBA in Finance He played for his University team before establishing himself with Cleveland in the US National Premier Soccer League. A native of Huddersfield, Dec initially came through the Bradford City Youth Programme where he captained the under 16’s and 18’s as well as the reserves. At 6’5 tall he is immense in the back four, calm but incisive under pressure. Nathan Dyer (Defence/Midfield): Nathan Dyer joins us from Whitby Town. He is a right back but can play in any position in defence and midfield and is a natural wing back with a tremendous turn of speed. The six feet tall defender signed a two-year scholarship with York City in the summer of 2018 and made his debut for the Minstermen in the following October. He made nine league appearances for York, before Joining Grantham Town in time for the start of the 2020/21 campaign. Nathan has impressed during pre-season – a tough defender but a surprisingly fast winger as well. Mathew Dixon (Defence): Matty Dixon was the third player to join us

from Bridlington over the summer months. He was an ever-present last season with the Seasiders and although equally at home in midfield or at right back, he likes to get forward. Matty began his career in Hull City’s youth team and still lives in that area having grown up locally. He made his first team debut against Accrington Stanley before signing for York City which was not the happiest of moves as The Minstermen were relegated out of the EFL that season. It was then onto North Ferriby before Spennymoor United, a season at Scarborough, then Whitby Town before Gainsborough Trinity for the 2020/21 season. Pete Davidson (Holding Midfield): Pete has returned to Tadcaster following two seasons at Bridlington Town where, as Club captain, he helped the Seasiders promotion from the NCEL Premier to the Northern Premier East. His early non-league career saw him at Guiseley, North Ferriby and Buxton. That was followed by four years with Scarborough Athletic, who he left in 2016 for Farsley Celtic. Pete was an ever present at Ings Lane from 2017-19 and is fondly remembered for his strength and application in the middle of the park. He teams up with Brett Agnew his previous manager at Bridlington and Matty Dixon. A strong, fast player who is always in the thick of the action looking for that opening. A 110% player. James Beaston (Central Defence): Thirty-one-year-old James is a central defender although happy to play right back as well. He joins from Yorkshire Amateurs where he spent three seasons and before that was with Garforth for four years and their captain for most of the time. In his earlier footballing career James played for Glasshoughton, Harrogate Railway and Nostell Miners Welfare. He then moved to Belper just before the Covid pandemic, returning to Ponte for the commencement of last season. A quiet but solid keeper who has impressed in pre-season.

Steve Smith (Defence): Steve also joins us from Yorkshire Amateurs where he played for the last 4 seasons. He is most comfortable at right back but is happy as a centre back or wing back, where his speed can be used to good effect. Steve is the brother of ex Guiseley and Pontefract Scott Smith. Like all the other members of last year’s Ammers squad he was shocked when the entire squad was released but happy to join the Brewers having discussed the possibility some time ago with John Deacey.
