HOOKED ––BOOKS

by patty hannum

In the Middle by Carin Fahr Shulusky While this book is a work of fiction, it clearly could be a memoir as it takes a very realistic look at a woman’s attempt to balance her life as a wife and mother along with being a daughter. For anyone who has ever tried to balance all three roles, you certainly will see your own reflection. The book pulls at your heart as you know there is only one way for this problem to be resolved. A good read for the sandwich generation. Haven Point by Virginia Hume Don’t be fooled by the cover of this book; it is not a throw away beach read. I read it in one day, it’s that good! It spans three generations of one family, all strong women who lead very interesting lives. It focuses on how choices made last beyond one’s lifetime. Put it on your to-read list.

Girls With Bright Futures by Tracy Debmeier It was only a matter of time before fictional books about the admissions scandal hit the market. I am not sure why I picked this one, but I’m glad I did. It was entertaining and funny in an awful sort of way. You can’t believe that characters like this exist; I am still struggling with ‘Aunt Becky’ paying $500,000 to get her daughter into a college she didn’t want to attend. This book won’t make you any smarter, but it will make you chuckle. Who Is Maud Dixon? by Alexandra Andrews This thriller already is optioned for a movie, and once you read it, you will understand why. Through every twist and turn, you watch the characters become people you didn’t expect. Interestingly, the title’s question is never answered, but that is no reason to not read this exceptionally written book.
