PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAMS MUSIC FOR BABIES/TODDLERS — 6-20 months A weekly 30-min group for parents and the little ones to learn, connect, and have fun Elements include finger plays, poems, nursery rhymes, action songs, scarf dance, and percussion instruments. Children at young age will be taught the fundamental of rhythms, exercise impulse control, explore basic senses, develop soothing and energizing routine with parents. GROUP PIANO LESSONS LEVEL 1 & LEVEL 2 — 3.5-5.5 years Music for Little Mozarts is a well designed and established teaching method for this age group. The program integrates singing and stories to teach children the musical fundamentals in merry and enjoyable ways. This is a piano-based program. Children will be taught how to read and write basic music notations, understand how to read and comprehend music, and play practically on keys. A lesson and workbook are included. There are 4 levels of Music for Little Mozarts. After Level 1, evaluations will be given to individuals based no skills and maturity on the instrument. Come and join Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse for a musical adventure. Harmonic Melodies Music 1111 Stellar Drive, Newmarket. ABC FITNESS — 3-5 years This class will incorporate learning new skills (A,B,C’s, counting, colours, etc) while having fun being active! Preschoolers will benefit from social interactions with others, healthy growth and development, better self-esteem, stronger bones, muscles and joints, better posture and balance and a stronger heart. No parent/guardian participation required. BALLET — 3-5 years In this program your child will develop the grace and creativity that Ballet is. Your child will learn the proper arm and leg positions as well as several ballet routines that will transform your little one into a Ballerina. Dress Code: Body suit, tights, ballet shoes & long hair in a pony tail. LITTLE KICKERS - KARATE — 3-5 years This program presents an opportunity for participants to become actively involved in the basic self defense techniques and movements as taught in Shotokan Karate. The Karate sessions will be run by Black Belt instructors from Community Martial Arts, a member of the International Karate Association (IKA Canada). A friendly, encouraging atmosphere will be created to make it an enjoyable and fun experience. A Karate GI (uniform) will be supplied as part of the registration cost. KINDER SCHOOL EXPLORERS — 3-5 years This pre-kindergarten program will have children participating in show and tell, art projects and educational worksheets. Children will discover numbers, letters, animals and much more. This creative, non-competitive and self-esteem-building program prepares all children for a future of confident sports participation. We have included a ball for each participant in our registration fee so that parents can safely disinfect them each week. SPORTBALL — PARENT & CHILD MULTI-SPORT — 2-3 years Parents/caregivers have a direct hand in their pre-schooler’s development through this unique Multi-Sport program. With the active support and participation of their grownup, children are able to refine their skills and continue their social and physical development such as balance and coordination by participating in eight popular sports: hockey, soccer, football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, golf and tennis. Under the guidance of our expert Coaches, grownups also understand proven teaching techniques that can be applied outside of Sportball classes. Sportball maintains a one-parent-per-child ratio policy in all Parent & Child programs to ensure that focus is kept on helping little ones practice and progress. We have included a ball for each participant in our registration fee so that parents can safely disinfect them each week. SPORTBALL – SOCCER — 4-6 years Sportball soccer classes are packed with high-energy fun, using imaginative coaching techniques and a continuous flow of new drills and non-competitive games to keep things rolling along. Camp hours are from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Extended camp hours allow for flexible drop off between 8 - 9 a.m. as well as flexible pick up between 4-5 p.m.

CHILD & YOUTH PROGRAMS ACRO/JAZZ — 5-8 years For those who enjoy creativity and movement this is the class for you. Acro is a form of dance that combines the flexibility and power of gymnastics with the grace of modern jazz. Through floor work and mats, participants will do basic tumbles, cartwheels, flips and more. Music will also be introduced to this class. Dress Code: body suit, tights, ballet shoes or bare feet & hair in a pony tail. DRAW, PAINT & SCULPT — 9-13 years Children will explore their creativity and discover their talents while learning art skills and techniques in drawing, painting and sculpting. Join Artist Donna Burwell-Stevens to learn about famous artists and to create portraits, still life, landscapes and more! Materials include: charcoal, oil pastel, watercolour and clay. INTRO TO KARATE — 7-12 years This program presents an opportunity for participants to become actively involved in the basic self defense techniques and movements as taught in Shotokan Karate. The Karate sessions will be run by Black Belt instructors from Community Martial Arts, a member of the International Karate Association (IKA Canada). A friendly, encouraging atmosphere will be created to make it an enjoyable and fun experience. A Karate GI (uniform) will be supplied as part of the registration cost. KIDDOS KICK — 7-12 years This fast -moving kicks and punching class will build physical skills like speed, agility, balance and coordination. Kids will also benefit from learning self defense, getting a full body workout, develop strong mental skills (confidence, focus, control) and have FUN! KGM - 3D MODELLING AND PRINTING VIRTUAL — 8-12 years Children will learn how to design and model 3D objects from animals, to their favourite movies and video games. They will work towards moving pieces and anything else they can imagine! A 3D printer will be shown online for the students to see and learn how it works. Note: 3D models will be printed and distributed at an additional cost. Required: a computer (PC, Mac or Chromebook), microphone and speakers. These programs will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. An email will be sent to families with a link to join the program, as well as software instructions. KGM - CARTOON COMPUTER ANIMATION — 8-12 years Dive into STEAM with animation technology. This program will enhance your child’s creativity and bring their inspiring stories to life incorporating the 12 principles of animation. In this program, children will animate their own characters, create animated shorts and a final cartoon movie while developing logical thinking skills. Required: an Apple© Ipad or Android Tablet is required for this program. A computer, microphone and speakers are required for the video. These programs will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. KGM - CARTOON DIGITAL ANIMATION — 10-14 years This course is for anyone who has artistic aspirations of creating stories through digital animation. Participants will incorporate the 12 principles of animation to animate their own characters, create animated shorts and a final cartoon movie. Required: an Apple© Ipad or Android Tablet is required for this program. A computer, microphone and speakers is required for the video. These programs will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. KGM - GAMES AND ANIMATIONS PROGRAMMING — 8-11 years This program introduces kids to the amazing world of computer programming. Using Scratch (from MIT), a fun and easy to use multimedia software; kids will have great adventures creating games and animations. Participants will be solving problems, designing games & animating characters while communicating ideas using stackable blocks of code. Required: a computer (PC, Mac or Chromebook), microphone and speakers. These programs will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. An email will be sent to families with a link to join the program, as well as software instructions. KGM - HTML 5: WEB DESIGN — 10-14 years Participants will learn how to create their own website. Some topics include creating links, adding images, using tables, page layout, how to add forms, and even insert video into your website with the HTML 5 specifications. Required: a computer (PC or Mac), microphone and speakers. This course will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. KGM - JR GAMES AND ANIMATION PROGRAMMING - FAMILY — 5-7 years Participants will learn how to create their own website. Some topics Young children will learn beginner coding, allowing them to make their own characters come to life by programming them to move, jump, dance, sing and so much more. Children will learn problem solving, numeracy and literacy while still having fun! Required: 1 adult per child, along with an Apple© Ipad or Android Tablet. A computer, microphone and speakers are also required for the video. These programs will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. An email will be sent to families with a link to join the program, as well as software instructions. KGM - PC VIDEO GAME CREATION — 8-11 years Participants will use a PC to learn a visual programming language from Microsoft©. Using an entirely icon-based interface, participants will learn advanced game design concepts (such as If statements, conditions, variables, sequencing and more) in a simple, direct, and intuitive manner. This intelligent screen time is an excellent opportunity to introduce children to computer programming. Required: a PC computer, microphone and speakers. Note: this program is not compatible with Mac© computers. These programs will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. CHILD & YOUTH PROGRAMS KGM - VIRTUAL REALITY CHARACTER DESIGN — 10-14 years This program is for every child interested in 3D Character Design and Virtual Reality (VR)! Participants will learn how to create industry level, high resolution and textured 3D characters from their favourite movies and videogames. These characters will later be added to their own personalized environments that can be used in animations, video games and seen with VR devices. Required: a computer (PC or Mac), microphone and speakers. These programs will be online via video conference where a Kids’ Great Minds instructor will provide the live lessons. An email will be sent to families with a link to join the program, as well as software instructions.

BABYSITTING — 11-15 years In partnership with SOS4Kids, The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency. This virtual program is instructor led on Zoom with 4, 1 hour 30 minute sessions. 100% attendance is required to receive certification. Manual and certification will be mailed to participants upon program completion.

KGM - 3D MODELLING AND PRINTING IN PERSON — 8-12 years Children will learn how to design and model 3D objects from their favourite movies and video games, animals, moving pieces and anything else they can imagine. HOME ALONE — 9-12 years In partnership with SOS4Kids, this Home Alone program prepares children aged 9-12 years to be on their own at home or elsewhere for short periods of time. Course content includes online safety and internet luring, fire safety, street smarts, stranger and not-so-stranger danger, first aid, and step-by-step home alone readiness plans. This virtual program is instructor led on Zoom with 4, 1 hour 15 minute sessions. 100% attendance is required to receive certification. Manual and certification will be mailed to participants upon program completion.

KGM - ADVENTURES IN INTERACTIVE PROGRAMMING — 8-12 years Makey Makey is a fun and interactive new way to create and enjoy your own games. 55+ FUNCTIONAL FITNESS Come join us as we get our bodies moving and work on our strength, mobility and flexibility. Comfortable clothing and sturdy footwear is strongly recommended.

LINE DANCING - ALL LEVELS Kick up your heels with an hour of fun line dancing. Our instructor will walk you through the steps of traditional and country line dancing. All fitness levels welcome.

CORE & MORE Exercises that will use your whole body while emphasizing your core and more! Your core includes all of the 4 areas of your abdominals, back, glutes and beyond. Strengthening your abs and back will improve your posture and balance and increase your flexibility so you can stand taller and move better! A mat, water bottle, weights, body weight or household items may all be used throughout this program.

LINE DANCING - BEGINNER This class is a great starting point for those who are new to line dancing or for those who want to enjoy easier dances. Social dance steps will be taught to popular music in a relaxed atmosphere with an emphasis on fun-filled exercise. LINE DANCING - PROGRESSIVE Step up to the next level of line dancing fun! This welcoming class is for those who know the basic line dance steps and want a little more of a challenge - class will include some more complex dance patterns with a wider variety of turns. BARRE STRENGTH  Barre Strength is inspired by ballet, yoga and pilates. It improves posture, strengthens and tones the body through low-impact and high intensity movements creating a lean physique. BODY BLITZ Join our instructor to challenge your whole body with a variety of different routines. Classes will incorporate bodyweight exercises, HITT, mixed cardio, and core strengthening exercises. The result will be a a fun filled class, and a toned and fit body. BOOTCAMP  Join our instructor for a challenging yet fun workout that will create a healthy you! This class focuses on strength and endurance, using mostly body weight exercises. CARDIO FIT & TONE This class focuses on increasing your heart rate for an extended period of time. With easy to follow, high or low impact moves, you will not require a lot of space. Weights, body weight, cans/bags of beans, and The Town is working with Provincial and York Region Public Health Officials to provide safe programming during this Fall/Winter Season. The Town will monitor any changes related to COVID-19 and will make any necessary changes to programming to ensure the safety of our residents and employees. POWER PILATES  Power your way through a focused Pilates session that will burn away fat and tone muscles. This workout emphasizes balance, control and core strength for optimal fat burning, as well as traditional Pilates mat work. YOGA - ESSENTIAL  This practice builds healthy resilient bodies, increases vitality and trains our minds to be strong & flexible in the face of stress and change. Breathing techniques and meditation will give you a deep inner calm and self confidence to meet life’s challenges with grace. Appropriate for both the beginner and seasoned yoga student. YOGA - HATHA  An introduction to Hatha Yoga is designed for students who are either new or returning to yoga. You will be guided by our instructor to gently explore basic postures and simple breathing techniques, followed by guided relaxation. Yoga imporoves your tone, helps strengthen and balance the body, and is ideal for counteracting the stresses of daily life. YOGA FIT  An exciting new class format appropriate for those feeling inspired to take their practice to the next level. We will combine low impact cardio, working larger muscle groups to increase heart rate in an invigorating half hour, followed by a beautiful alignment -based vinyasa flow in the second half of our session. We will end with some heart-opening poses to leave you feeling open and relaxed. This class will improve fitness, strength, balance, and flexibility. YOUNG AT HEART  Join us for a fun low impact cardio class that incorporates hand held weights, exercise bands, and other equipment. You will strengthen your muscles; improve your blood circulation and mobility. For encouragement and an hour of fun, you will not want to miss it. Beginners welcome!
