FIRST DAY OF CAMP

Each camper will be provided through email a camp newsletter and calendar the Friday prior to camp. Please ensure your email on the account is up to date. This letter will outline the planned activities for the week. This email will also include any COVID-19 screening tools and documents needed to be completed for the week.

WHAT TO PACK FOR CAMP Lunches: Please pack nutritious, nut-free lunches and snacks each day in easy to open containers. We ask that all campers and families be attentive to others’ special dietary needs. All East Gwillimbury camps strive to be “nut-aware”. In addition, please send campers with a refillable water bottle.

The Town is working with Provincial and York Region Public Health Officials to provide safe programming during this Summer Season. The Town will monitor any changes related to COVID-19 and will make any necessary changes to programming to ensure the safety of our residents and employees. Clothing / Sunscreen: Campers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes, and to dress appropriately for the weather. Campers will spend the majority of their day outside therefore, hats and sunscreen are strongly encouraged. A knapsack labelled with the camper’s name is advisable, as well as labelling other items. Campers are advised not to bring any valuables to camp, as they are responsible for their own belongings. Please pack additional clothing.

FLEXIBLE DROP OFF AND PICKUP Unless otherwise noted, camp hours are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. You may drop your camper off between 8 and 9 a.m. and pick up between 4 and 5:30 p.m.

No busing or extended care is available. ABSENT FROM CAMP If you know in advance that your child will be absent please send a note to the Camp Supervisor or contact Recreation Services at 905-478-3826. Camp Supervisors will call home on a daily basis to confirm your child’s

absence.

MEDICAL INFORMATION Ensure that all medical concerns (medications, allergies, epi-pen, etc.) are completely documented during registration.

INCLUSION NEEDS When considering a recreation experience, please consider the individual needs, and that the recreation integrated setting may not be suitable for all persons with disabilities. Health and safety of participants and staff is paramount, which could result in participants being denied access to the program. The Town of East Gwillimbury attempts to accommodate requests for additional support for children with special needs. However, due to the number of requests or level of care required, support cannot be guaranteed. Accommodation can be made subject to health, safety and cost considerations. Should your child require extra support, please contact Recreation Services at 905-478-3826 to discuss their needs, information on counsellors and to register.

LATE PICK-UP FEE

Our staff are selected on the basis of past experience, skills, enthusiasm and passion to work with children. Our staff must be certified in first aid, submit a police vulnerable sector check and be High Five certified.

Failure to pick up your camper by the designated time will result in a late pick up fee of $10 per every 15 minutes.

REGISTRATIONS

The following discounts are applicable to our Summer Camp 2022 programs: Third and subsequent child(ren): When there are three or more children in the same family taking part in the same week of summer camp, the third and subsequent child(ren) will receive a $20 discount.

For your convenience, registrations may be completed online using a computer. Mobile registration is not available at this time for camps. www.eastgwillimbury.ca/ireg.

WAITLIST You can add your child to a waitlist online for the 2022 season.

LATE REGISTRATIONS Registrations that are submitted after a session has begun will not be pro-rated.

DISCOUNTS

Full refund – If a program is cancelled prior to the session beginning, you will be contacted by telephone and issued a full refund. Partial refund – You will receive a partial refund if a written request is received by Recreation Services one week prior to the start of the camp. Refunds will be deducted the $20 administration fee. We regret that we are unable to reimburse funds once a camp has commenced. Transfers – If you wish to transfer your child from one camp to another there will be a $20 administration fee.

COUNSELLOR IN TRAINING (CIT) VOLUNTEER PROGRAM The Town has a volunteer program for teens who have some experience working with children or for those who have completed the LIT program. The focus of this program is to develop their skills, participate in all aspects of camp and dive in as a member of the camp team! Due to the large volume of volunteers, unfortunately not all volunteer applicants may be accepted. Those accepted as CIT’s will be required to attend to an information training session.

Proof of full vaccination is required prior to participating in the CIT program. To be considered, please send a letter of interest and two letters of reference to kmawhinney@eastgwillimbury.ca Submission deadline June 1st, 2022 CITS must bring a packed lunch and drinks daily. A volunteer shirt will be provided to CIT’s.

FAME CAMP – A SPORTS CAMP FOR GIRLS! This camp is designed for female athletes aged 12 to 16 of all abilities in any sport. Focusing on the 4 pillars of mental performance, physical performance, leadership and fun, FAME uses sport and physical activity to help build strong, robust female athletes and inspire women to be the best version of themselves. This camp includes sports, games and activities related to mental health, confidence and body image, game preparation, strength and conditioning, recovery practices, nutrition, goal setting and more. KARATE CAMP 6 to 10 yrs. This camp presents an opportunity for campers to become actively involved in the basic self defense techniques and movements as taught in Shotokan Karate. The Karate sessions will be run by Black Belt instructors from Community Martial Arts, a member of the International Karate Association, (IKA Canada). A friendly, encouraging atmosphere will be created to make it an enjoyable and fun experience. A Karate gi (uniform) will be supplied as part of the registration cost.

In partnership with Skate Canada NCCP professional coaches, campers will enjoy 10 fun hours of on-ice instruction and can earn Can Skate ribbons and badges! Off ice classes led by experts in their field include: dance, yoga, fitness, skipping, flexibility and theatre performance. Campers will learn about nutrition through creating their own tasty snacks and use fabric paint to decorate their very own skating gloves (provided)! Note: If you have NOT registered for a Skate Canada program in 2021-22, a $43 member fee is additional.

Skaters will have 3 hours of ice per day including 60 minutes of fully coached classes in edges, turns, spins, jumps and performance. 2 hours of daily off ice classes led by experts in their field will include stretch and relaxation, mental training skills, off ice jump, skipping, fitness, yoga, dance, theatre, and nutrition. Skaters may arrange group, semi-private or private lessons with the coach of their choice (all Skate Canada coaches welcome!) or we can arrange lessons for you.

Skaters must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet until completed Stage 5 and wear sharpened skates that fit! Please send your camper with snow/ splash pants, sweater/jacket, mitts, running shoes, lunch, water bottle and sunscreen.

TENNIS CAMP (1/2 DAY CAMP) 6 to 14 yrs. This half day tennis camp is geared for children ages 6-14 of all playing levels. Kids will be divided up into appropriate age/ skill levels. The progressiv tennis system will be implemented at all levels to maximize the player’s potential with FUN being our main priority. All coaches are certified with Tennis Canada and have a passion to share their knowledge of the game with others. Please bring water daily. Campers will receive high end on ice technical skill training accompanied with dryland sessions that will focus on agility, flexibility, and strength. To enroll in this camp, you must provide an official written note from the players coach and/or organization, proving that they are registered to play at the rep level for the upcoming season. Children will learn how to design and model 3D objects from some of their favourite movies, video games, TV shows and more. They will work towards moving pieces and anything else they can imagine! Our 3D printer will be on site so kids can see it in action, learning how it works. Each participant will be able to print one 3D model to take home to show off! Campers will learn basic circuitry principles to create various inventions which they can build in their own Minecraft© world. Campers will use a team approach to learn logic and problem solving to build bigger and better versions of their inventions. LEADER IN TRAINING (L.I.T) 13 to 16 yrs. This two-week program is an introduction to leadership development. During the first week participants are “in class” learning how to program plan, policies and procedures, communication and teamwork with staff and campers. The second week campers will use the skills learned with some hands-on work to be able to develop their

HOME ALONE 9 to 12 yrs. In Partnership with SOS4Kids, this Home Alone program prepares children aged 9-12 years to be on their own at home or elsewhere for short periods of time. Course content includes online safety and internet luring, fire safety, street smarts, stranger, and notso-stranger danger, first aid, and stepby-step home alone readiness plans. This virtual program is instructor led on Zoom with 4, 1 hour 15 min

sessions. 100% attendance is required to receive certification. Manual and certification will be mailed to participants upon program completion. Mon – Thurs. Week(s): 2 & 6 Time: Week 2 – 12-1:15 p.m. Week 6 – 2-3:15 p.m. Location: Virtual Price: $65 Code: 8782 BABYSITTING 11 to 15 yrs. In Partnership with SOS4Kids, The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency. This virtual program is instructor led on Zoom with 4, 1 hour 30-minute sessions. 100% attendance is required to receive certification.
