LIFE FLOOR AND WATERPLAY ANNOUNCE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

Life Floor, Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A., and Waterplay, Kelowna, BC, Canada, announced a strategic partnership to bring aquatic surfacing to the global splash pad market. Together, the companies are committed to making aquatic recreation completely immersive and connecting the world through play and social experiences.

The Waterplay and Life Floor partnership includes the global splash pad market. Life Floor will continue working directly with customers who choose alternative equipment providers. Life Floor will also continue working directly with spray feature manufacturers and their Registered Aquatic Partners where Waterplay and Life Floor are not exclusively specified.

WATERPARKS IN THE WORKS

ROARING SPRINGS ANNOUNCES ITS LARGEST EXPANSION EVER

Roaring Springs, Meridian, Idaho, U.S.A, has begun construction on an expansion that will increase the waterpark’s size by 40 percent over the next decade.

The first of seven planned phases will open in the summer of 2023. The Northwest-themed addition will include an interactive play structure with seven slides, an action river, an activity pool, a new restaurant, the waterpark’s first bar, additional parking and other amenities.

“Our leadership team has visited waterparks all around the world, and we’re excited to bring some of the highest quality, most fun water rides to Idaho,” said Pat Morandi, Roaring Springs CEO. “This expansion will make Roaring Springs one of the largest waterparks in the U.S., provide outstanding entertainment for families, and create jobs for both young adults and professionals. All of this is made possible by the long-time valued support of our community, and our tremendous partnership with the City of Meridian.”

New attractions include: “Camp IdaH2O,” a giant interactive water playground featuring some of Idaho’s most iconic symbols; “Class 5 Canyon,” Idaho’s first action river; and “Critter Crossing,” an activity pool with forest-themed floating features for kids to balance across with overhead ropes, plus water basketball and other play elements for skill-based recreational fun.

A new state-of-the-art UV filtration system will maintain Roaring Springs’ high standards for water cleanliness and safety.

Key partners on this project include Roaring Springs’ original slide manufacturer, ProSlide Technology, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Aquatic Development Group (ADG), Cohoes, New York, U.S.A. and long-time local construction management partner, The Russell Corporation, Meridian, Idaho, U.S.A. •

remembering to do what is needed to take care of yourself in the process.

WHAT BOOKS OR PUBLICATIONS DO YOU RELY ON MOST FOR INSPIRATION OR MOTIVATION?

I do not read a lot but I enjoy following aquatics groups on different platforms for new ideas, informational articles and the occasional inspirational quotes.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?

My favorite part of the job is interacting with my staff. It’s fun to watch an employee grow and evolve both personally and professionally from one year to the next. My hope is that I am able to help guide them in the process and make an impact on them no matter how big or small it might be.

WHAT CAREER OR BUSINESS WOULD YOU CONSIDER IF YOU WERE STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN?

I love my career in aquatics but recently I’ve wished that I could do more to impact change on local, state and federal levels. So even though I work for the government, I think if I could start over, I might entertain more interest in political positions that have the ability to assist with legislation.

HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INVOLVED WITH THE WWA?

The St. Charles Parks & Recreation Department has been a member of WWA since 2018 and in the same year they featured our new facilities in an issue of World Waterpark Magazine.

WHAT IS SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOU THAT FEW KNOW OR WOULD GUESS?

My first summer working for St. Charles as a lifeguard was in 2003 and I have not missed one summer along the way. I am proud to say this summer will be my 20th! • that I commonly facilitate. I always make a point to wrap up by sharing leadership quotes and concepts to keep the team feeling inspired by something fresh.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB?

Developing high performance teams. It is immensely satisfying to coach, train and develop young leaders, to give them the tools and resources they need to do their jobs well and then watch them take the lead with a spirit of ownership and empowerment. If you do this on an individual level and then do it on a team level, success is going to happen.

WHAT CAREER OR BUSINESS WOULD YOU CONSIDER IF YOU WERE STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN?

I wouldn’t change much, although I am jealous of the folks on the creative, design side of the business. I’ve had the good fortune to be selected to open several properties and would love the opportunity to design and open my own creation.

HOW DID YOU FIRST GET INVOLVED WITH THE WWA?

I have a somewhat quirky interest in documentation, especially legal stuff. WWA is a fantastic resource for figuring out how to do things the right way, whether it’s related to MAHC, ASTM, ADA, state codes or the like. I naturally gravitated toward the Government Relations side of things and was honored to be asked to serve on that committee. I’d recommend a similar approach to anyone that wants to develop their expertise.

WHAT IS SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOU THAT FEW KNOW OR WOULD GUESS?

I’m an old hippie at heart, so there’s nothing like a Dead show. •

Properly executed interviews will make all the difference in the world regarding hiring decisions. Perhaps you will find that an applicant looked really good on paper but was a disappointment in the interview. Or perhaps an application and resume were not too inspiring, but in the interview the candidate’s real strengths and qualifications came shining through.

When you make good hiring decisions you, your department and the organization benefit. When you make poor choices, everyone suffers including the employee you hired.

And remember when you are tempted to hire anybody with a pulse, sometimes having nobody is better than having somebody. Hire right. •
