Introduction

Over the past two years, the Town of Victoria Park has undertaken a significant community engagement process to review its current event offering, and what it might look like for local residents, and visitors, resulting in the Town’s first Events Strategy 2022–2026.

Events (and activations) are special, in that they can positively contribute to our community in many different ways.

Events and Activations:

• Enliven public open spaces

Events attract people to a location they otherwise might not have visited

Creates a welcome and interactive street life

Animated public spaces create a local identity, sense of belonging and pride.

Engage our community

Improve access to arts, culture, history, and education

Create an innovative and empowered community

Facilitate an inclusive community that celebrates diversity

Develop and grow local talent

Offer opportunities for volunteerism, involvement, and local connection to place

Grow an engaged audience of residents and visitors.

Generate economic benefits

Increased frequency of visitation through activation and increased pedestrian activity

Increased pedestrian activity generates economic benefits to local businesses

Facilitates a strong local economy

Research and statistics show that events on average generate $3 for each $1 invested.

Days of Significance

There are many days of cultural and religious significance celebrated in Australia and around the world, with the Department of Home Affairs listing over 130 recognised days of significance occurring each year.

Local Governments are often asked to be part of these celebrations, which can be challenging as there are so many occurring each year that are important to our community. To be able to provide a sustainable program of support for days of significance, our priority for 2022−23 will be the following days:
