elcome to tp24’s LED Lighting Directory Volume 9. We are excited to introduce you to our NEW, dimmable, fully replaceable, Abstract G30 range which is a fully comprehensive, revolutionary range of LED lighting. This, together with many of our best sellers and your old favourites, is offered to you in one unique, entirely LED publication. With the LED lamp (bulb) technology improving significantly, we have some amazing products offering excellent light levels and unbelievable energy saving. Look through this new directory and you will have to agree LED’s are becoming Art in Light. At tp24 our designers have been very busy creating a number of unique solutions to maximise the benefits of LED lighting. With an increasing range of retrofit LED bulbs we can now replace most halogen and incandescent light bulbs with a selection of energy efficient LED replacements. Our LED’s offer full instant brightness, no warm up delay, long lifetimes, and wide beam angles, all covered by our two year warranty (when you register your LED bulb serial number online). With the introduction of new pop shades, under & over cabinet lighting, Grande and a range of dimmable bulbs this year we continue to grow our LED collection. We are already working on new additions to the innovative Abstract G30 range for you to add to your Abstract scheme. Abstract The Abstract range has a wide choice of wall fittings to suit all locations and provide some exciting new opportunities to create light features not previously possible. Wall plates for this range are offered in narrow and standard sizes, either switched or unswitched. The faceplates are compatible with all the arms offering an array of different wall light options to suit any location and to provide illuminated wall art features. These are offered with a selection of different back boxes for fitting into studwork, recessing into brick and masonry or chrome finished surface and corner boxes. In addition there are offset, angled and splayed wall bracket choices available.

The linking nodes are held in place by removing the arm end cap and connecting the node and arm together with the screw provided. This creates a secure connection which can be easily dismantled if desired. These nodes have been designed to be used with arms 9150 and 9154.

A special quick-fit system designed and patented by tp24 enables the installer to screw the special HSR ring straight onto the existing threaded ceiling rose. If you donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have a ceiling rose, not to worry, flip it over and you can screw the HSR straight on to the surface. After wiring up, three secure grub screws then affix the light fitting to the HSR ring. With our new HSR2 itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s easier still - simply push the head of the fitting over the HSR2 ring and secure. Many of our customers are able to install light fittings themselves simply by following the instructions supplied with each fitting. What is LED lighting?

Introduction

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and is a form of “solid-state lighting” (SSL) technology, emitting light from a piece of solid matter. In the case of a traditional LED that piece of matter is a semiconductor. Stated very simply, an LED produces light when electrons move around within its semiconductor structure. A semiconductor is made up of a positively charged and a negatively charged component. The positive layer has “holes” - openings for electrons; the negative layer has free electrons floating around in it. When an electric charge strikes the semiconductor it activates the flow of electrons from the negative to the positive layer. Those excited electrons emit light as they flow into the positively charged holes.

Lighting is quite often overlooked and, more often than not, it becomes a last minute choice, however it is one aspect of interior design that is vital to get right. When choosing lighting for your space, there are three keys factors to take into consideration:

What does “dedicated low energy” mean? Our fittings only accept a low energy lamp designed for use with an L1 light fitting. This means that the low energy lamp cannot be replaced later by an incandescent or normal light bulb which would be 5 times more expensive to run.

What are lumens? Light is measured in lumens. For example, a traditional 60 watt bulb will consume 60 watts of electricity but it provides light in lumens, typically around 700 lumens. An LED bulb might only consume 7 watts of electricity to provide the same level of light. You will see on the packaging of LED bulbs that lumens are now used to describe the light output of a bulb. ‘Lumens per watt’ describes how much light output you are receiving for the amount of electricity you are consuming.

Do I have to wait a long time for the bulbs to reach full brightness? Thankfully not. LED lamps come on instantly at full brightness much like the original incandescent bulbs used to - only without the excessive running costs.

Can I use your LEDs in my home? Yes, they have been designed for the domestic market and we have a complete range of retrofit LED bulbs. These bulbs fit straight into your current mains voltage fittings and are supplied in all the major cap types such as edison screw (E27/ES), bayonet (B22/BC) and many more. If you are unsure as to which bulb to choose speak to our Customer Service Team on 01354 691 919 who will be happy to assist. Alternatively check our website for up to date ranges of tp24 L1 LED and tp24 retrofit LED bulbs.

How long does each bulb last?

- The function of the light (i.e. task lighting, general purpose or ambient lighting) - The direction the light will be shining in (remember white ceilings also reflect light) - The aesthetics of the light fitting

Task lighting Spotlights are great for lighting a work area such as a study or kitchen surfaces. They are often adjustable too meaning you can aim the light exactly where you want it, or even adjust the fitting to suit your varying tasks. Unlike Halogen spots, LEDs run at very cool temperatures, making re-adjustment possible even after hours of continuous usage. Depending on the type of task you may also want to consider installing G40 downlights, see pages 166-173 for more details.

Bedroom lighting Subtle lighting works best in a bedroom so choose a fitting where the light can be dispersed softly. Small pools of light from clusters of table and floor lamps will help create a warm, relaxing atmosphere.

Bathroom lighting With bathroom lighting you must adhere to bathroom lighting regulations, referring to the bathroom zones and IP (ingress protection) ratings of light fittings. These can be found on pages 132-133. Make clever use of existing mirrors to maximise light if necessary or add one of our illuminated LED mirrors. It’s often hard to find feature lighting for bathrooms that come with adequate ingress protection but at tp24 we’ve made this possible. So how about some crystal in the bathroom for a change? The 6 arm LED Osterley crystal and chrome semi-flush fitting, page 135 shows how glamorous LED lighting can brighten up your bathroom without you having to fall into the trap of functional lighting. For a low ceiling, choose a flush or semi-flush light fitting. Take a look at our tp24 G40 Downlights on pages 166-173, available in IP65 ratings and the Wanstead in IP20 rating.

Lighting small spaces and corridors Consider the shape of your space. Compact spaces benefit from being well lit. The Redbridge zig-zag spot bar can be positioned to direct light into any dark areas or if you’ve got a long kitchen or corridor, or even want to bend light around a corner then our flexible Tennessee spot bars are the perfect solution, see page 127.

Our LED lamps have an average lifespan of approximately 15,000 hours compared to a regular incandescent/halogen lamp’s lifespan of only 1,000 hours.

Have low ceilings? Flush fittings and downlights will give you maximum head clearance and get you out of a tricky spot when your fitting needs to be mounted in close proximity to a swinging door.

What sort of guarantee do you offer?

Downlights

We cannot guarantee the current from your electricity suppliers and it is these fluctuations which do most damage to light bulbs. However, we supply a unique 2 year warranty with all of our LED lamps. Just register your purchase on our website to receive the full 2 year warranty. All of our fittings are guaranteed for 1 year from the date of purchase. (This warranty excludes bulbs/fittings that have been physically broken by misuse. This does not affect your statutory rights).

Too many people position their downlights in a linear, ‘runway’ fashion. If this will provide adequate lighting then that’s great, however, for most situations this will leave the home owner with dark spots, particularly over work areas. It is important to plan the positioning of the lights exactly where you’ll need them, over the sink, over counters and in walkways. Even better, put these three lighting groups onto separate switches so you only end up using what you need, when you need it.

Do I need any special wiring?

Statement lighting

No, all of our fittings are suitable for standard mains voltage. You may need to buy tp24 plug and play cable for G40 plug and play downlights, however this still runs on mains voltage.

Lighting can turn an ordinary space into an extraordinary space. Statement lighting will always add a wow factor to any room when hung low over your dining table, or in a high stairwell. Lighting is one of, if not the most important factors in an interior design scheme. Consider all the different levels of lighting in the room from the ceiling pendants, wall lights and table/floor lamps.

Are your light fittings easy to install? Yes, extremely! The majority of our fittings are supplied with our unique, patented HSR and HSS head systems that allow the light fitting to be fitted over a standard ceiling rose, eliminating the need to rewire the loop or switch drop.

If you need a larger fitting but you still want full control of the light level, why not look at the ‘switchable’ fittings by tp24. These fittings have a builtin tiered switching system and work with greater efficiency than traditional dimming, yet they do not require a dimmer switch as the switching is in-built and controlled by a regular switch.

Can I leave my lights on continually 24 hours a day?

Openplan lighting & continuity

No. Because of the way that these lamps work they are not designed to be left on 24/7 – they need a rest period (a bit like us I guess).

When lighting an open plan room it’s best to let the lighting flow, continue through with similar or matching fittings, especially in a lounge-diner. Consider complementing your fixed lighting with matching floor and table lamps to complete your look.

Look at the size of your room(s) before choosing your light fitting(s). One of the biggest mistakes people make is not getting the size or quantity right. Consider the positions of the fittings, the number of arms required and the brightness of the lamps (bulbs). Many older houses had ceiling fittings positioned close to the windows: does it need moving to a central point or do you need two lights instead of one for the size of the room?
