President’s Message
JulytoSeptemberwasabusytimeofyearforour clubwithalotofsocialandmotorsporteventsand greattoseealotofnewmembersjoinedtheclubas well.
ThefirstoftheseeventswasaHyperBMW PowersportsafternoonskippanatMtCotton.Afull fieldof14carswereouttohaveagreattime.The followingweekend,wehadover60membersand guestsjoinusforarunfromYatalauptoMt TamborinetotheBushTurkeyBistroforlunch. OurmajoreventfortheyearonSunday24th Julywas theHyperBMWPowerSportsICCCharityDay BreakfastandHappyLapsfollowedbytheICC CharityDayRegularityChallenge.74membersand guestsforHappyLapsand44carsfortheICC RegularityChallenge.Themostimportantnumberof thedaywas$11,000.00thatBMWClubQueensland wasabletoraiseforourtwosupportedcharities,Pay ASackForwardandEmergeCafé.Thankyoutoall thesupportersandmembersformakingthisavery successfulday.Therewasalittlebonusforsomeof ourmembersontheday,afreetankoffuelthanksto ournamingsponsor,HyperBMWPowersports.

Acoupleofweekslater,35membersandguests joinedthedrivetotheEmergeCaféinToowoombafor lunchwherewepresentedtheirchequeforour donation.
Wehavenowchangedtheformatofourmonthly meetingstoalessformalstyle‘Muster’.It’sjusta gathering,abriefchatandnormallysomethingtoeat &drink.
ThankstothetirelessworkbyourICCCoordinator ChristineMurphy,on14th Augustwewereinvitedto jointheTeslaOwnersClubAustraliaforanEconomy RunandLunch.Howdidthatwork,well,lotsof calculations?Itwasfunandagreatdrive.(BTW, thanksagaintoHyperBMWPowersportsforcovering thecostofourfuel)

Afterbeingpostponedfromearlierintheyearduetothe wetweather,wefinalywereabletoholdoursociallunch drivetotheBushTurkeyBistroatMtTambourine. Around30carsleftBPYatalaat10:00amforatwohour cruisethruthecanefieldsaroundNorwellandJacobs Well,thruWolfdeneandontoourlunchdestinationthe BushTurkeyBistroatMtTambourine.Lunchwas excellentwithgoodfoodandgreatservice.Allclub memberswhoattendedenjoyedadayoutinthe sunshinewithterrificscenery

MynameisJaneandIhaverecentlyjoinedthe BMWQueenslandclub,whatagreatdecisionthat was.IattendedmyfirstICCM/SportDTC AutocrossonSaturday16th Julyandwhatan amazingdayitwas.Idrivea228iconvertibleand fortheveryfirsttimeinmylifegottodrivearounda tracktestingmydrivingskillsandspeed,whata fantasticexperience.Iwasverynervoustotakeoff onmyfirstlap,heartpoundingahundredmilesan hour.Afterthatlapandoverthenext3lapsI managedtoshave5secondsoffmytimeasmy confidenceincreased.IhadattendedtheBMW afternoonattheMrCottonSkidPantwoweeks priorandIwasgratefulfortheexperienceIlearnt thereandputintoactiononthistrack.
Therewere38competitorsontheday,itwasathrill tobeoneofthreefemalesdrivingontheday.So manybeautifulanddifferentcars.ImustadmitI knowzipaboutcarsandlearntafewthingsabout mycarthatIwasnotawareof.Ijustlovetogetin themanddriveasfastasIcan(orallowedto).
IntheshorttimeIhavebeenamemberofthisclubI attended3eventsandmademanynewfriendswith everyonebeingsowelcomingandhelpful.Iam lookingforwardtoSunday24th Julytoparticipatein thehappylapspriortotheICCCharityDay RegularityChallenge.

TheMountCottonHillClimbislocatedonGramzow RdinMountCottonishometotheMGCarClubof QLDInc.Itislocatedlessthan40kmsouthof BrisbaneCBDwithmostlytravelonthemotorway.
Thisisthe5th eventoftheInterclubCarChallenge comprisedofmorethantendifferentcarclubswith memberscompetingonthistrackthatisjustshortofa kilometrewithseveraloffcambersandundulations similartoarollercoasterrideatathemepark.
Thetrackcomprisesoftwoloopsbothofwhichatits topendwerelargelyshadedbysurroundingtrees whichprovedalittleslipperyintheearlymorningfrom theaccumulationofdew.However,byaround11am asthemercuryroseandafteraboutfourrounds, tractionimprovedandsodidthedrivers’timings. Thereisahairpinturnthatissupportedbycontainers ofnuts(arresterbeds)incaseofrunoffs,togetherwith fastdescendsandoffcamberstowardsthefinishline, thistrackdeliversmultipleshortburstsofadrenaline.
Thiseventhadavarietyofvehicletypesandclasses fromopenwheelerstorace/formulacarstoimproved/ modifiedproductioncarstoroadregisteredcarswith thefastesttimeofthedaybya4-litreGouldGR55B drivenbyDeanAmosat37.17secs.BMWCQhadthe largestturnoutwithelevenmemberscompetingwitha rangeofBMW///McarsandMinis.Itwasagreatday withgoodweather,lotsofexcitementwithourcarsand camaraderiewithclubmembersandothercompetitors. ThisyearhasseensomanyofourmembersparticipatingandenjoyingtheeventsintheICC.Withover10Clubs participating,thecompetitionoffersavariedselectionofmotorsportandsocialeventswhichfostersgreat comraderyamongstourfellowClubmembers.TheClubsthathavehostedeventsinthisyear’scalendarare PorscheClub,ZCarClub,HoldenSportingCarClub,LotusClub,MGCarClub,MX5Club,Tesla,TriumphSports OwnersAssociation,Qld86BRZCarClubandofcourseBMWCQ.

OnSaturdaySeptember3rd almost100membersoftheclubenjoyedafantasticafternoonontheBrisbane RivertocelebrateRiverfireaboard“Eye-Spy”theBrisbaneWhaleWatchingcatamaran.Theboatdepartedat 4pmfromtheNewFarmParkRiverHubandtraveledupriverundertheStoryBridgeandanchoredinthecity reachoftheriver.MemberswerethentreatedtoanarmyaviationdisplayandmultipleflyoversbytheF/A-18F superhornets.ThefoodandentertainmentontheEye-Spywasfirstclasswithbuffetmealandaliveband keepingusrockingwellintothenight.Thentofinishupthenightwasthefireworksdisplaywhichwaseven morespectacularfromourvantagepointontheriver.Givenhowpopulartheeventtheeventwasandthe commentsfromthosewhoattendedI’msurethiswillbecomearegularyearlyeventontheclubcalendar

Withperfectweather,areliefaftertheweeksrain,andsomeveryinterestinganddifferentcarsattending,the scenewassetforagreatdayofcompetition.Iwon'tembarrasssomebypublishingallthescores.

Oneofourmostprominent,colorfulandpopulareventsoftheyearisalwaystheShowofExcellence,thisyear heldasastandaloneevent.Withafewfalsestartsinregardtotheeventslocationduetothecontinuingwet weathertheeventwasfinallyheldatLakesideParkRaceway.Alargeturnoutofvehiclespresentedontheday andwereorganisedintotheirjudgingclassesunderaperfectbluesky.Theamazingarrayofvehiclesincluded BMW’sbothnewandold,Mini’sandacoupleofracecars. VehicleswerethenjudgedintherequiredcategoriesbythevolunteerjudgesablyledasalwaysVicCrennan. Thewinnersonthedaywillbepresentedwiththeirawardsatourawardspresentationlunchtobeheldonthe 27th NovemberattheBroncosLeaguesClub.Allwhoattendedenjoyedagreatdayout.Specialthankstoall thosewhohelpedorganiseandrunthedayincludingvolunteerjudges,dataentrypeople,scoresheetrunners andallthosewhodidadminbehindthescenes

Round5sawusgatheratLakeside,briefly,forthelastroundofourSprintSeries.
Unfortunatelyourdaywasshortlived.Greyskiesandashowerbeforegettingunderway,didn’tbodewellforthe restoftheday.Withlightdrizzleandadamptrack,itwasdecidedtostartthedaywithasessionofHappylapsto helpdrythetrack.Agreatplan,butunfortunately,notdiscussedwiththeraingods,resultingwiththeraingetting heaviernotclearing,ashoped.
Onlookingattheweatherradar,itcouldbeseen,alargestormcellwasdeveloping tothenorthwestandheadinginourdirection.Avotewasheld,andthenearunanimousdecisionwasmadeto postponetoanother,hopefullydrier,day.
Asluckwouldhaveit,withinanhourofthedecidingtopostpone,therainstopped,andthesuncameout. Inthe14yearsIhavebeenintheclub,frommyrecollection,thiswasthefirsttimewehadactuallybeenrained outofanevent,oncecommenced.Wehavehadeventspostponedbeforehandbutnotduring.Wegathered againatLakesideforourdryer,re-doonFriday14October.Detailsofthatandalltheserieswinnerswillbeinthe nextissue.
