President’s Message

Again,theclubyearendedwellwithaverybusythree monthswithaspreadofeventsandgreatattendance. ThefirstsocialeventwasonOctober8th,adrive,tour andlunchattheYandinaGingerFactory

Wehad63membersandguestwhostartedoutfrom theShellColesExpressatGlassHouseMountains withabonus,freefuelfromoursponsorHyper Racing,thenascenicdrivetoYandina.Therewe touredthefactory,hadaGingertastingfollowedby lunch.

14thOctober,Round5oftheRXAutomotiveSprint seriesartlakeside,andonthesameday,Motorsport AustraliaheldaspecialeventattheNorwell Motorplex,“WomeninMotorsport”Anumberofour clubmembersattendedthisspecialday.

Atthesametime,IwasofftotheUSAtoshareinthe BMWCarClubsofAmericascelebrationof50years of///MinSouthCarolina.Itwasaveryspecial weekendwithaVIPdinnerwithguestspeakers Eddie Cheever and BillAuberlen attheBMWfactoryat Spartanburg,avisittothe BMWCCAFoundation to seetheir50yearsof///Mdisplay,afulldayofspecial ///Mcarsatthe BMWPerformanceDriverTraining Center,adriveintothemountainswiththe///M ChapterandavisittoaspecialprivateBMW collection.Ihadanopportunitytotellthestoryofthe BMWClubsinAustraliaatoneoftheireventsSeethe photosofmytrip HERE.Theirhospitalitywas outstanding,especiallymyhostsIanBranston& LindseySizemoreBranston.

MoremotorsportinOctoberwiththe25thNoosa Hillclimb.AmajorsponsoroftheeventwasCoastline BMW.LotsofBMW'sandclubmembersthere,inthe wet.

TofinishoffOctober,wewerebytheICCtoparticipate intheMR2CarClubsNavigationRun.Theseevents arealwaysgoodfunanditwasgreattoseeagood roleupofcarsandmembersfromvariousclubs.

November18thsawanotherICCevent,thistimea KhanacrosshostedbytheHoldenSportingCarClub atWillowbank.

Onthesamedaywasroundoneofthe2023RX AutomotiveSprintseriesatLakesidePark.

Nexton20thNovember,therewasasocialdriveand lunchtothewesternrangesfinishingatthequaint MeringandanPubforlunch.

December3rdwasanafternoonRegularityatLakeside sponsoredbyHyperPowersports.Greattoseesome firsttimemotorsportparticipantsthereontheday.

Ourfinalmusterfortheyear,thistimehostedbythe BMWGroup+QUTDesignAcademyattheirstudioat theKelvinGroveCampus.Itwasinterestingtofindout howaplaceasremoteasBrisbaneareworkinghandin handwithBMWAGtodevelopincredibletechnologies toaidtheproductionofourmarque.Video HERE

Thefinalofficialeventwewereinvolvedinfor DecemberwasonSaturday10thattheBardonShed fortheICCawardspresentation.Itwasthefinalyear forPaulClemensaschairoftheICCsotherewas specialpresentationtohimforhistirelessworkoverthe years.

OnSaturdaythe6thofOctobertheclubheldadrive toandsocialeventatYandinaGingerFactory.The daybeganattheShellGlasshousemountainswhere carswerefueledupthankstoBrendanCookeof HyperRacing.Thedrivetothegingerfactoryfollowed thescenicroadsoftheGlasshouseMountainsand theMoolooahValley.Uponarrivalatthegingerfactory wewereshownaroundthefactoryandgivenanin depthexplanationofhowgingerisgrownharvested andmadeintohugerangeofgingerproducts.The tourfinishedwithatastingsessionofmanyofthefine productsproducedatthefactory.Thedayfinished withafantastictwocourselunchprovidedintheBlue Gingerroom

The2022NoosaHillClimbSummerChallenge markedthefourthoccasionI'vecompetedinthis greatevent&onethatIrecommendtoanyone withaninterestincars.Fromaspectatorspointof viewit'safantasticweekendofMotorsportwith brilliantaccesstoallthecompetitionvehicles, whetherthat'swalkingthroughthepitsorthe manyup-closevantagepointsalongthehill. Anothergreatelementofthiseventisthehuge varietyofvehicles,everythingfromrallycars,V8 musclecars,openwheelers,historicstothelatest modernsportscars&everythinginbetween.Asa competitor,thetrackitselfisespeciallychallenging withamixoffast&tightsectionsthatmakeit veryrewardingtodrive&withadecentnumberof vehiclesenteredwithinallcategoriesitmakesfor somefriendlycompetitionacrosstheweekend.The 2022SummerChallengehadCoastlineBMWas themajorsponsorwiththeeventformingpartof their50yearsofBMWMcelebrationswhich includedadisplayofpast&currentBMWM vehiclesaswellashavinganumberofcustomers competingintheevent.Itwasextremelywetover thecourseoftheweekendandalthoughitwasn't idealweatherforyourtimespentoutsidethecarit didprovideanotherexcitingchallengetoan alreadydifficultstretchofroad&ensuredthis editionwouldbememorableforallthatcompeted. Ifyou'veneverbeenorarethinkingabout entering,there'stwoeventsheldeachyear&I highlyrecommendheadingtoatleastone.

WomensIntroductiontoMotorsport-October16th

AnabsolutelybrilliantdayatNorwellMotorplexfor theMotorsportAustralia(MA)Women'sIntroduction toMotorsportProgram!Eight"buddies"whoare womenalreadyparticipatinginmotorsportas competitorsandinofficialpositionswereonhandto helpsupporttheparticipants.Wehadtwosessions with21participants.Westartedthedaywiththeory oncarcontrol,howtoenterevents,whattoexpect onthedayandwhathappensatscrutineering.Then theymovedontobraking,maneuveringcoursesand finishingattheskinpanforaMotorkhana,withthe mostconsistentdriverwinningatrophy!

AtlunchtimewewereluckytohaveMelindaPrice speakwiththegroupabouthermotorsporthistory andhercurrentloveofracingintheExcelCup!As ayoungladyshewasoneofthetrailblazersfor womeninmotorsport,withmanyachievements underherbeltincludingarecordstillstandingat Bathurst.

Everyonewhoattendedtodayhadafantastictime, learnedsomenewskillsandmadesomegreatnew friends!ThiseventwasahugesuccessandIam proudtohavebeenabletoassistMotorsport AustraliafacilitatethiseventandofourBMWCQ ladiesinmotorsportwhowerebuddiesand participants.I'msurethiswillbethestartofmany morehostedbyMotorsportAustralia!!

Welldoneall!ThiswasafundayandreallywellorganisedbytheMR2Club!Approximatelythreehoursof adventuresupanddownthemountainsfindinganswerstoquestions,finishedoffwithalovelylunch.

ShoutouttoChrisandMichaelaGraysonwith518pointscoming6thOutrightandbestBMWCQmembers.Next we'reGaryandSueSchweikertwith511pointscoming8thOutrightand2ndoftheBMWCQmembers.Then DeePowellandSteveBasswith496pointscoming13thOutrightand3rdBMWCQmember.

WelldonetoeveryonethatcompetedtodayandahugethankyoutoBruceandLorraineMcLeanforcomingout asspectatorstosupporttheteamJaneandItookthemforaspinonthesightinglapwhichtheyenjoyed Everyonekeptimprovingthroughtheday.IndividualOutrightpositionswereIanO'Harain5th,DarylKanin7th (takingout2ndplacealsoinhisclassintheQLDchampionship),JaneMusgravein16th,ToddMcGuirein22nd andChristineMurphyin26th.

TheICCAwardsPresentationwashostedbyZCarClubQldon10December.BMWClubQLDandit'smembers madeahugeimpressiononthecompetitionin2022anditwillshowsintheresults.

AstheICCrepforourClubIwantedtogiveabigcongratulationstoourindividualwinners:IanO'Harawho placedfirstinOutrightandRoadRegistered,DarylKanwhoplaced3rdinOutrightandRoadRegistered,Ben NicolwhowontheRegularity(BenwasunwellsoIacceptedonhisbehalf).BothIanandDarylhavebeen strongcompetitorsandsupportersintheInter-ClubChallengeQueenslandandturneditupto100thisyear!Ben isafamiliarfaceinclubmotorsportandhascaughttheICCbug,sowatchoutforhimin2023!Let'sgivethese guysahugeroundofapplause.

Then,theClub,wetookhometheOutrightandRoadRegisteredshieldandtrophy!Everydriverwhoplacedtop 4ineacheventgotthishomeforuswiththesupportofallothercompetitors!Thankyoueveryoneformaking thisyearfantastic,ithasbeenapleasuretobeinvolvedwith.I'mproudofyouall.

Finally,PaulClemens,ChairoftheICCsince2017,issteppingdown(butnotaway)fromtheposition.Paulisa well-respectedandwell-knownfaceinmotorsportbothinQLDandOtherstates.PaulhasensuredthattheICC isanenjoyableandcompetitivecompetitionforallClub'sanddriversofanylevelwhilealwaysbeingfriendly, encouraging,andsupportive.Allclubspaidtributetohimwithaveryspecialgift.ThankyouPaul.Iamvery proudtoannouncethatIhavebeenvotedinasthenewChairandIamlookingforwardtosupportingallClubs anddriversandgrowingthecompetition. AsamemberofBMWCCA,inearly2022,Ireceivedanemailexplainingthe50yearsof///Mdisplaythatwas beingcreatedattheFoundationandIthoughthowamazingthatwouldbetosee,butit'swaytoofartogoand tooexpensivetogetthere.ThenIsawanotheremailaboutthespecialcelebrationweekendforthePowerof///M thatwasbeingplannedforOctober14-16th.

Suesaid…”Justgo!”

ThanksagaintoIanandLindseyBranstonandGregMondeauformakingmewelcomeandmakingithappen. FromthemomentIannouncedIwasgoing,itwasoverwhelmingtheresponseIreceivedfromsomanypeople, again,thepassionwasevident.It’swonderfultoseethatpeoplearesowillingtosharetheirtime&joy.Itcould beforanythingbutitjusthappenstobeBMWs.

MostofyouwillknowallabouttheweekendwiththespecialVIPeventattheZentrumwithTomPlucinsky,Eddie Cheever&BillAuberlen,themassive///MdayatthePerformanceDriverTrainingCentreandthe///MCars, coffeeandrunattheBMWCCAHQ.

ThehighlightformewastorevisittheFoundation,nowchristenedtheUltimateDrivingMuseum.

Togiveyousomeperspective,hereinAustralia,wehaveafewcollectorsofBMW’sbuttoseesomethinglike thatdisplaywasbreathtaking.TherearesomanyofthosecarsthatwereneverimportedintoAustralia,sowe justdon’tgettoseethem,letalonedrivethem.Tobeabletospendhourswanderingaroundthedisplayandget upcloseandpersonalwasincredible.

Thestaffofthemuseumwereoutstandingandtoworkashardastheydidleadinguptoandthroughthe weekendisacredittoyouall.Thedevelopmentofthemuseumsincewevisitedin2019isastounding.Takea bow!

AsIsaid,thepassion..whilstwanderingaround,itwasevidentthatsomeofthepeoplethereweretheownersof thesecarsandwithoutexception,eachofthemwereproudtobeabletosharetheirtimewithusall. Itisimpossibletopickafavouritecar,theyareallexceptionalandwithoutanyoneofthem,itwouldhavebeena lesserexperience.

ImusttakeamomenttothankScottHughesforgivingmethehonourtovisitaveryspecial‘shed’.Wordscan notexplainwhatIsawandagain,thepassionthatwasevident!ThankYou!
