Pioneering The Sustainable Aviation Sharjah Airport is a pioneer in aviation environment in the region and become the first carbon neutral airport in GCC and second in Middle East, not only stands out for its greenery and lush landscaping, but also for its commitment to protect its environment and maintain sustainability in its own development.
Achievements 1 Sharjah Airport has become the first carbon-neutral airport in the GCC and the second in the Middle East to attain Level 3+ Neutrality accreditation in 2020. This is awarded by the Airport Carbon Accreditation program, issued by Airports Council International (ACI) when net carbon dioxide emissions over a full year are zero by optimising direct emissions and offsetting the residual emissions. Sharjah Airport also accomplished other levels in previous years by Airport Carbon accreditation: • Level 3 Optimisation in 2018 • Level 2 Reduction in 2016 • Level 1 Mapping in 2014 The Airport Carbon Accreditation programme is the only independent, institutionally endorsed carbon standard for airports that recognises the efforts made to manage and reduce their CO2 emissions.

2 Winner of ACI Green Airport Silver Recognition 2020. which acknowledges airports’ achievements in environmental projects. 3 Winner of Ajman Tourism Departments Green Government Initiative award (Modama) 2019. 4 Winner of Green Sharjah Award 2019 by Sharjah Chamber of commerce and industry. The airport’s green initiatives include strict control over the consumption of electricity and water, as well as the implementation of an integrated waste management system which support the long-term sustainable development goals of the airport. All these recognitions and awards celebrate Sharjah Airport’s pioneering environmental and sustainability initiatives in the UAE aviation industry.
