AT HOME IN UPPER BAVARIA IN DEMAND THE WORLD OVER AlzChem manufactures at four sites in the Chemical Triangle in southeastern Bavaria, and has sales companies in Atlanta, USA and Shanghai, China. AlzChem‘s registered offices are located in Trostberg in Upper Bavaria, in the Traunstein district.

AlzChem AG is an international chemicals company, with more than 1,350 employees and an annual turnover of approximately € 280 million. One of the areas AlzChem focuses on is NCN chemistry, which stands for products with a typical nitrogen-carbon-nitrogen compound. An entire range of these products has been developed in Trostberg.

TRAINING PROVIDES THE CAPITAL FOR OUR FUTURE It is very important to us to continue to acquire qualified new employees. Every year we offer rewarding apprenticeships to around 40 young people. Our training covers the scientific, technical and commercial fields. Training takes place in modern training facilities, laboratories and offices, all equipped with the latest training technology and designed with future developments in mind.

WE GO BACK A LONG WAY 1895

Dr. Adolph Frank and Dr. Nikodem Caro succeed in binding nitrogen from the air with calcium carbides (nitrogenation).

1901

Dr. Albert Frank recognizes the benefits of using calcium cyanamide as a fertilizer.

1908

Bayerische Stickstoffwerke AG (BStW) is founded, with head offices in Munich.

1908-1912

Construction of the Trostberg calcium carbide plant, the carbide plant in Schalchen, the works canal and two hydropower plants in Trostberg and Schalchen.

1915-1920

Construction of the plants at Piesteritz and Chorzow (Upper Silesia), and the carbide plant in Hart plus the hydropower plant at Hirten.

1920

Bayerische Kraftwerke AG is founded, with head offices in Berlin.

1939

Company renamed Süddeutsche Kalkstickstoff-Werke AG, with head offices at Trostberg.

Starting 1945

Establishment of premium value-added product ranges in the metallurgy and NCN chemistry segments.

1968

The company moves into construction chemicals with the concrete plasticizer MELMENT®.

1971

Construction of the Muenchsmuenster petrochemical plant.

1974

The company goes international with production facilities at Bécancour/Quebec in Canada.

1978

Company’s name is changed to SKW Trostberg AG.

1981

Company moves into the nature products business with hop extraction.

1993

Sister plant at Piesteritz transfers back to SKW.

1995

SKW is listed on the stock market.

1995-1999

Acquisition of Sanofi Bio-lndustries S.A.Paris (SBI), Master Builders Technologies (MBT) and Goldschmidt AG. As a result of these mergers SKW expands its nature products, construction chemicals and performance chemistry segments.

2000

Merger of Degussa Hüls AG with SKW Trostberg AG to form the new Degussa AG.

2001

Founding of SKW Stahl Holding GmbH.

2002

Sale of SKW Piesteritz Holding GmbH, including the rights to the name „SKW“, to Ameropa Holding AG. Inauguration of the Construction Chemicals Competence Center (German landscape architecture prize 2003) with a professorship at the Technical University Munich.

2005

RAG Group becomes new majority shareholder.

2006

Merger of the Alz sites at Trostberg, Schalchen, Hart and Waldkraiburg into AlzChem Holding GmbH. The Construction Chemicals segment is sold to BASF.

2009

bluO Fonds becomes new shareholder.

2011

Company changes its legal form to become AlzChem AG.

PRODUCTS & APPLICATIONS NUTRITION Sports nutrition has been a focus for AlzChem dietary supplements for many years and Creapure® creatine monohydrate is recognized as the premium brand for creatine worldwide. Careful selection of raw materials, manufacturing under GMP conditions, and precise analytical control ensure the highest purity products. Creapure® offers benefits for everyone, young and old: for mental acuity, healthy bones, muscle rehabilitation, as well as improved endurance and muscle strength.

Other dietary supplements include Alipure® alpoha lipoic acid, the only commercially available product that is solvent free. Alipure® is a powerful antioxidant and can also alleviate certain symptoms associated with Type II diabetes.

RENEWABLE ENERGIES AlzChem DYHARD® micronized dicyandiamide grades are sold worldwide as effective epoxy resin hardeners. The DYHARD® product range of curing agents includes a full range of accelerators for use in adhesives, powder coatings, printed circuit boards, and composites. DYHARD® products play a key role ensuring safety and quality in the automotive, airline, wind power and other high performance industries.Our product SILZOT® SQ plays an important role in the competitive manufacture of solar wafers from polycrystalline silicon.

FINE CHEMICALS Starting with the very basics – coal, limestone and air we build up a broad and comprehensive product portfolio. With our unique approach and these simple raw materials, we provide a dependable supply of products based on calcium carbide, calcium cyanamide, hydrogen cyanamide, dicyandiamide, guanidine, quanamines and nitroguanidine. In addition, our multi-nitrile plant offers a wide range of aromatic and aliphatic nitriles for many diverse applications. A full range of fine and specialty chemicals are manufactured in our dedicated and multi-purpose facilities.

AGRICULTURE We contribute through our specialty products to successful and sustained agricultural production worldwide. In addition to the specialty fertilizer,Calcium Cyanamide, with its proven and highly valued secondary effects, AlzChem’s product range includes the germicide ALZOGUR® for use in pig pens, DORMEX® plant growth regulators for table and wine grapes and other fruits growing, plant protection additives and the new plant strengthening agent SALUKARB®. We make sure that our customers obtain the maximum benefits from using our products by supplying them with top quality products and also by providing farmers with expert technical advice.

METALLURGY AlzChem‘s strengths and expertise in metallurgy are the result of our long experience, fundamental know-how in metallurgy, very large-scale production capacity and outstanding customer relationships.

AlzChem offers reliability, quality, flexibility and innovation in two key segments of the steel industry: hot metal desulphurization and secondary metallurgy.
