W
hat a blessing it is to welcome you to our 38th Production Sale! Last year, due to Covid-19 and the health of each one of you, we made the decision to push our sale back to the Saturday before Memorial Day. At the time of writing last year’s sale letter, we never imagined that Covid-19 would still be considered a current event going on in our world today. While there is still a world of unknowns, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel. roughout the course of the past several weeks, both live cattle and fat cattle prices have seen a tremendous increase, with fall futures being very promising. As for most of you reading this, we had a tough, cold, wet winter. While much has changed since the writing of our last letter— namely feed costs and rising gas prices, one thing is certain, and that is our focus to provide you with the most fault-free genetics we can. We are able to do what we love each and every day by the support of each of you.
John, Randa, Harper and John Owen Starnes

It seems as though we say it each year, but this is the best set of cattle we have ever offered. Like each of you, our goal is to get better each year, so it may seem like a rhetorical statement, but we believe it to be true each time we write it. e fall split pairs are the deepest, most uniform set we have had the pleasure to share with you, with most of them being first-calf heifers. e fall heifer calf splits being offered are as deep a set of calves as we have ever put together. ere are some true sale features within both breeds in the spring pair division, most with heifer calves selling alongside their dam. e calves at side offer breed-leading EPDs without sacrificing the basics we breed for: depth of body, udder integrity, foot quality and the look that we desire. ree very exciting lots are spring ET heifer calves right from the heart of our herd that are true donor prospects that we hope will make an impact for their new owners. Within both breeds, the quality is incredibly deep. We think you will like what you see come sale day, and that is always our goal. We are truly blessed to work side by side with our family and loved ones. Living and working with family on our cattle operation is something we don’t take for granted, and we are forever grateful to the good Lord above for the blessings of being able to do what we love. We can’t thank “Da” Roland, Nonnie, Poppy and Mimi enough for all they do here at TRM and for us as a family. Joseph and his wife, Whitney, have been here almost three years and have been a blessing to TRM. Stephanie keeps everything rolling at Lookout Mountain Genetics. New additions to our working family are Tyler Griggs and Chuck Wright, who have both been great new assets to our operation.

It’s said the days are long, but the years are short. Ranch life sure makes that statement ring true, as we work sun up ’til sun down. Honesty and integrity are something we take very seriously, and our motto is quite simple: We raise the type and kind of livestock that are stout, sound and functional and can flat get the work done all while having respectable EPD profiles. We have never chased EPD fads and breed for a more uniform, balanced animal that can thrive in our Southeastern environment. Everything we know about the cattle, you will too. Our customers, both big and small, mean the world to us, and we realize that without each and every one of you, none of what we do would be possible. We are forever indebted to our past, present and future customers. Please make plans to join us Friday, April 30 to view the cattle and enjoy fellowship. If you ever need anything, or if we can help you in any way, please don’t hesitate to call anyone here at the ranch. We appreciate you and value your friendship more than you could imagine. We are blessed to call TRM customers our friends and colleagues, and we would love the opportunity to work with you. Sincerely,
John and Randa Starnes

• e donor dam of Lots 101A–101E and 102A–102D, CF Fly Bis 110, was the $44,000-valued top selling Angus female in the 2015 Dixieland Delight. She is a beautiful and powerful donor female that is a direct daughter of the Pathfinder Sire and bull that led the breed for registrations, Bismarck, back to a daughter of the Pathfinder and ABS Global sire Mytty In Focus and the Pathfinder granddam CF Fly Plus 2906. • We think these heifers are carbon copies of their powerful dam and offer balance and eye appeal without sacrificing maternal strength. eir added dimension and broodiness suggest long-term value and true return on investment. Whether enhancing your herd’s visual quality or adding to your donor pen, these are females you do not want to miss.

• e dam of the donor prospects selling as Lots 103A–103C, CAM Goode A442, was the $27,500 selection of Pollard Farms in the 2020 Dixieland Delight. A442 produced G A R Sure Fire A8005, the $80,000 half interest third top-selling selection of DNB Co., LLC of North Platte, NE, from the 2020 Gardiner Angus Ranch Sale, where his full brother, G A R Sure Fire A8014, also sold for $10,000. • Backed by years of breeding diligence and industry experience, the sire of these sisters, GAR Home Town, lines up below-average stature with calving ease, exceptional performance and an elite set of EPDs for carcass merit. You won’t find many bulls that are higher for Marbling or $Combined and backed up by generations of proof like Home Town is. He is phenotypically right—big-hipped and wide based with an attractive herd bull presence in a moderate frame. • e foundation is set for genomic enhancement to have one or all of these sisters knock it out of the park numerically.
Updated EPDs on all sale cattle will be available sale day. 24

• is true F1 prospect is sure to garner the same attention as the other black baldy females we featured both in our 2020 production sale and last fall in our bull sale. • We strongly believe that the Hereford/Angus female is the ultimate cross, so at TRM we breed one round AI and then turn in a Hereford bull with our Angus cows and an Angus bull with our Hereford cows. is way we can easily identify AI-sired calves and continue to add to our commercial herd of black baldy F1 females with genetics from our top end of both breeds. • Sells open.

OUR CATTLE RANCH consists of Angus and Hereford genetics, with an emphasis on quality in all facets from pasture to rail. e cattle spend the majority of their lives grazing lush, green grass before being finished on a grain-based ration to maximize marbling and taste. We strongly believe the key to quality meat is comfortable, respected and humanely-raised animals. High-quality animals yield a high-quality product. We have a deep love and respect for agriculture, our community, our livestock and the land that has been passed down for generations here in Northeast Alabama. e Market at TRM was created as a way to share our locally-sourced beef with the community. Our dream has long been to bring to families the same homegrown, healthy beef that our families have been enjoying for decades. We believe in all aspects of the cattle industry, and we admire and respect the versatility of the beef animal in all that it provides. We appreciate the opportunity to join you and your family at the dinner table!

• Lots 1A–1D are the first daughters we have offered out of Knockout Rose, who was our $13,000 half interest selection from the 2018 Sims Family Cattle joint production sale. We feel they represent the consistency of this cow family and Rose’s ability to produce great results when mated to a multitude of sires. Regardless of whether you are looking for a show prospect or your next donor, we feel you will find one of these sisters to suit your needs. • Prior to going into production, Knockout Rose was named Reserve Supreme Champion Bred-and-Owned Female at the 2014 Tulsa State Fair and the 2015 Oklahoma Youth Expo; Reserve Grand Champion Female at the 2014 and 2015 Tulsa State Fair Junior shows, Grand Champion Female at the 2015 Oklahoma State Fair Open Show and the 2015 OJCA Preview Show; division champion at the 2014 American Royal Junior and Open shows; and a class winner at the 2015 Junior National Hereford Expo. • Granddam Rosie D96 was Supreme Champion Female at the 2010 OJCA Preview Show and Champion Hereford Heifer at the 2011 Oklahoma Youth Expo. D96 is from a highly successful flush that mated the Denver Supreme Champion BR Moler ET to the famous Day/Barber donor BR 122L Rose 4020 ET.

• e sire of this mating, KLD RW Marksman D87, is a polled sire that is capturing the attention of everyone who sees him. His many accomplishments in the show ring include being named Grand Champion Polled Bull at the Fort Worth National Hereford Show, Polled and Reserve Champion Bull at the 2021 Cattlemen’s Congress, 2020 Hereford Heritage Show in Abilene, TX, and the 2020 American Royal in Kansas City for his owners, JMS Ranch, Morris Hereford Farms, Kirbie Day Sims and Neal McCoy, all from Texas. Marksman’s dam is the standard of quality in the Hereford breed. As you research Hereford donor cows, you will find that she is one of the elite. She has consistently raised champion caliber cattle that have great earning power. Daughters sold in excess of $60,000 last sale season. • We are excited about this mating to Knockout Rose that combines two of the most prolific cow families in the KLD herd, Mindy and Rose. • Selling a package of four conventional embryos.
