Welcome to the Sale

Welcome friends to the11th Annual Trusted Performance Bull Sale. The relationship with Lott Farms and McMurphy Farms began almost 2 decades ago while in a school suburban headed to a livestock judging contest. Teammates then, throughout college and still today make this a special event for both Farms. We have also been long-time family friends with the Goss family and are excited that they are a part of this great event. We are all in the commercial cattle business ourselves and therefore we are focused on raising bulls that will add value to your operation. Our goal is to produce bulls that balance genetic statistics with visual correctness and that is why you will find similarities in the type and kind of bulls offered on March 4, 2025.

Since our beginning we have had some outstanding customers and we understand there are many options when it comes to buying bulls. We truly value your loyalty and to prove it we have made a simple return-customer rebate for you. So, if you purchased a bull in 2024 and you return for a bull in 2025 you will receive a 6% discount on bull purchases. This will happen every year so long as you purchase a bull the previous year. To reiterate, we continue to be committed and will continue to seek opportunities to thank our customers and provide opportunities to better serve you. We will continue to support and bring value to you beyond your purchase so that we can grow together.

We hope you enjoy the offering and find something that will help you move your program forward. Just as you continue to progress we do the same. We have had a few Simmental bulls for sale the last couple of years, but this year we have a few more to choose from that we think are really good. Our intentions are to bring you options that will add some heterosis to your programs. If you would like to view the bulls before sale day give us a call or come out the weekend before the sale. Cattle will be on display and we'd be happy to answer your questions. Please also keep us in mind when you are ready to market your offspring next year and we will be glad to help you garner that extra value for your calves.

Thank you again for taking a look at what our programs have to offer and if there’s not one for you this year please think of us again next year when considering a new herd sire for your bull battery.

Sincerely,

The Trusted Performance Sale Group

Genetic Selection Information

Below you will find descriptions of the EPD Data listed in this sale catalog.

Expected Progeny Difference (EPD), is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I”, and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE.

Calving Ease Direct (CED), predicts the probability of calves being born unassisted out of 2-year-old heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.

Birth Weight EPD (BW), predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight, and is also used in the calculation of Calving Ease Direct (CED) EPD.

Weaning Weight EPD (WW), predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning.

Yearling Weight EPD (YW), predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.

Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.

Calving Ease Maternal (CEM), predicts the probability of a given animal's daughters calving unassisted at two years of age.

Marbling EPD (Marb), predicts differences for carcass marbling score as expressed in marbling score units. Higher marbling scores are positively correlated with higher carcass quality grades.

Ribeye Area EPD (REA), predicts differences of carcass Rib Eye Area between the 12th and 13th rib. Increased Rib Eye Area has a beneficial effect on Yield Grade which also includes Carcass Weight and Fat Thickness.

Red Angus Specific Epd’s

Stayability (STAY) predicts the probability of a bull’s daughters remaining productive until at least six years of age. This is a selection tool to improve overall cowherd efficiency through reducing replacement rate. Cows that stay productive, are problem free and last longer mean a larger percentage of heifers can be cash cropped, instead of developed as replacements. STAY predicts the probability of a bull’s daughters remaining productive until at least six years of age.

HerdBuilder (HB), Producers selecting bulls to develop profitable replacement females and maximize the value of non-replacement marketed progeny should incorporate the HerdBuilder Index into their selection decisions. This Index focuses on Stayability, Heifer Pregnancy and Calving Ease but also factors in carcass based traits and growth indicators.

GridMaster (GM), Use the GridMaster Index if your primary goal is maximizing profitability of feeders in the feedyard and on the rail. Marbling, Yield Grade and growth EPDs are the traits of primary importance in the GridMaster Index.

Angus Specific Epd’s

Combined Value ($C), an index, expressed in dollars per head, which includes all traits that make up both Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) and Beef Value ($B) with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd. The remaining cull heifer and steer progeny are then assumed to be sent to the feedlot where the producers retain ownership of those cattle and sell them on a quality-based carcass merit grid. Expected progeny differences (EPDs) directly influencing a combined index: calving ease direct (CED) and maternal (CEM), weaning weight (WW), yearling weight (YW), maternal milk (Milk), heifer pregnancy (HP), docility (DOC), mature cow weight (MW), foot angle (Angle), claw set (Claw), dry matter intake (DMI), marbling (Marb), carcass weight (CW), ribeye area (RE) and fat thickness (Fat).

The End of an Era

As producers we are constantly trying to create the next great one! This is a lofty goal and is further complicated by the drive to make one that fits in both the show world and commercial industry. Here at McMurphy Farms our primary focus is creating an animal that has the eye appeal that a person wants to put on display, but doesn’t diminish the commercial cattlemens' goal of producing pounds of beef. We think both of these sires have done that, as have their progeny. Both sires have been consistent in producing stout, functional cattle with longevity. They have served us well, and we are sad to announce that both have been retired this year. So we invite you to study this offering of their progeny as it will be the last and largest selection offered from these two great bulls.

Wow! what a set of brothers! A trio of powerhouses from the 6234 donor cow. These three are moderate, easy keeping and stout. I would suggest load up all three and turn them out together. Next fall, you will have the most uniform set of calves in the county. All three really spread the numbers and whether you are looking to retain ownership, raising replacement females or just setting yourself apart at the sale barn. These three bulls get it done.

This impressive Poker Face son is a beast of a bull that leads off this sire group. These three ET sibs do it all for us. While each of these bulls are slightly different in their makeup, they all trip our trigger. Try to find a hole in this beast as he is loaded with red meat from end to end and has the extra look that sets him apart. It is hard to find a bull this stout and still move at the ground like this guy. This bull will quickly improve your next set of calves.

This red eagle son will turn some heads. We just retained two females that are full sibs to this bull. They just calved this spring and are making excellent cows. This guy is for the producer that wants to build his cow herd by retaining his own females. I can guarantee you that the females raised out of this bull will be the front pasture kind. Just look at the presence of this bull, his neck comes high out of the top of his shoulder and he is so well balanced with a great hip and hind leg. 3569 stems from our Rachel donor cow that continues to make great ones.

Big time herd bull prospect, out of one heck of a cow. This bull is out of a new pedigree for us and one of our top donor cows, that we refer to as “Lucky”. As a show family, we obviously want our cattle to have some look, but we also embrace the commercial aspect of the cattle industry and need our calves to perform in the feedyard. 3690 meets both of those requirements for us. He is long and comes out really square and level out of his hip with awesome feet and we are sure he will make great females. In addition, he ranks in the top third of the breed for most of his carcass traits.

We purchased head games in 2021 with the intention of using him as a calving ease sire and making replacement females. We believe this head games son can be your next purchase to accomplish the same. An ultra-complete, moderate framed bull that only weighed 71lbs at birth. A big testicled bull that is built right at the ground to cover a lot of country to complete the task at hand.

This son is a big footed, smooth jointed herd sire prospect that offers a balanced look from the profile. We appreciate the extra volume and capacity that he offers. A very sound herd bull prospect.

Concorde is another new sire that we tried this past year. I saw this sire in person and he was so deep and sound that we had to try him. 4945 has the added size and muscle that a commercial cattleman needs. Tipping the weaning scales at over 730lbs, this bull is one that you need to look at for adding additional pounds to your calves.

A few years ago we set out to explore the options of building percentage red angus/ simmental cross bull prospects that could potentially work in our rough environment and could provide that added growth to work for the commercial cattleman. We only have a few of these half-blood prospects for sale, but we feel they will help improve any progressive herd. We are starting this group with a bull that checks a lot of boxes for us. This Joker son is a bigger framed, longer spined, dense made herd sire candidate that is supported by a top shelf cow family.
