In Case You Missed It – Greenbelt Sunday Service We know that many of you attend Greenbelt, an annual festival and celebration of arts, faith and justice. This year, they didn’t have their traditional, large-scale gathering for communion on the Sunday. Instead they released their Sunday Service as a podcast and asked people to listen to it wherever they were. The theme was The Job of Paradise. The podcast-style service took its title from a wonderful poem by the poet Roger Robinson. It is shaped and narrated by poet, theologian, and conflict mediator Pádraig Ó Tuama. The service lasts about 45 minutes. It’s designed to be listened to in one go. Either on your own or with others. 2

It was fantastic to spend time, all be it virtually, with nearly 200 Fair traders over the course of the last few weeks. Inspiring as ever, to hear your stories of getting back into action and to get your overwhelmingly positive feedback on the new catalogue.
If you’re looking for a great present for a foodie in your life, why not gift The Zaytoun Collection with Falastin Cookbook – a wonderful bundle of Palestinian ingredients and Falastin cookbook for mealtime inspiration.
Following the success of the Live Fair For Lent talks earlier this year, I am proposing to host '12 Days of a Fair Christmas’. This virtual evening will be hosted by you, presented by me and designed to be relaxed and friendly, no hard sell.

This month’s shout out goes to Deb Lee and her grandchildren, who are getting creative with Traidcraft packaging!
I thought that this photo might be fun for a bulletin! My children and now my grandchildren have always enjoyed playing in the Traidcraft boxes! It helps pass the time when they come to visit! Take care, Deb
Welcome to the Team, Chelsea! “I'm currently taking over for Jude whilst she's on maternity and I'll be doing B2B work. In my spare time I like to socialise with my friends and going to festivals. I also enjoy going to the gym and eating a plant based diet as I am vegan. Other than that I'm not very exciting haha!”

Great Taste Awards 2021 The Results… Great Taste is the world’s largest and most trusted food and drink award. Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, this award is the acknowledged benchmark for fine food and drink. They put thousands of varieties of food or drink to the test each year, with a panel of over 500 experts blind tasting products, as well as straightforward and impartial feedback from chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers.
We are delighted to announce that this year, we can add two new products to our Great Taste Award-winning range! Drum roll please…
Traidcraft Organic Fusilli Pasta
“Good looking pasta with excellent texture and a fabulous aroma. This is a very clean, well made pasta with an excellent flavour profile which would be a welcome vehicle for different sauces.” - GTA Judge “With provenance like that, it sounds impressive! The pasta is a lovely, traditional shape. There is a very pleasing grassy aroma from the quinoa. The spirals are lovely and think but still with a good bite. It would be great in salads as well as with any number of sauces. This is very well made pasta and we love the addition of the quinoa to add protein as well as an extra dimension to the flavour profile. You can almost taste its heritage! Good job.” - GTA Judge

Traidcraft Organic Mexican Blossom Set Honey “A beautiful colour honey, with a pleasantly smooth, but stiff creamed texture. A delightful floral, butterscotch flavour and a wonderful mouthfeel make this an absolutely delightful honey. A wonderfully balanced flavour and texture. Absolutely delicious.” “A really pretty, pale, iridescent set honey with a sticky, almost chewy, delightful texture. Mellow aromas of both bee and hive emanate. Subtle floral notes are backed up by a warm spicy flourish on the finish. A glucose chill leaves the palate tingling. Uncomplicated yet harmonious flavour notes.” – GTA Judge Winning a Great Taste Award is so important to us as it differentiates our products from the norm, and means that you, as the customer, have a guarantee that the products you are buying have a reliable and recognisable seal of approval, based simply upon their great taste.

When is zero not zero? In the run-up to this October’s crucial COP 26 conference, the UK government has been talking up its green credentials. In 2019, the UK became the first major economy to make a legal commitment to Net Zero – achieving a balance by 2050 between the carbon emitted into the atmosphere, and the carbon removed from it – and this has been a central point in its claims to global climate leadership ever since. But there’s a problem. The Net Zero target only covers emissions produced within the national borders of the UK. And almost half of the UK’s consumption emissions – emissions associated with the goods and products we consume - are released outside the UK in the production of goods that we import. This offshoring of carbon emissions is a trend caused by the UK’s shift away from being a 12 traidcraftshop.co.uk
manufacturing economy. Whereas, in the past, the UK produced most of the goods that it needed within its borders, it increasingly sources these from other countries. What is critically needed then is a new UK target, designed to cut offshored emissions. This target would operate alongside the existing Net Zero target and plug the current gap in its effectiveness, spurring the UK government on to work closely with other countries, to help reduce the environmental impact of the products destined for our shores. Because ultimately it is through international collaboration rather than outsourcing and then washing our hands of carbon emissions that we will make real progress in tackling the climate crisis.

Patient pilgrims finally set off
Raffle Rebooted This year, we set ourselves a challenge. We asked the question: what would the world’s most ethical raffle look like?
When the Camino de Santiago trek was announced in summer 2019, we didn’t think it would take this long to finally set off…
...can we make it happen?
Two years later, from the 2nd to the 9th of October, Traidcaft Exchange supporters and a few members of staff will be walking the last 100km of the Camino Frances to the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela – an ancient route that has been thronged with pilgrims for thousands of years.
1.
We’d like to place on record our thanks to our amazing trek team for their patience and perseverance over multiple lockdowns and postponements – not to mention their amazing fundraising efforts.
Keep an eye on our social media to see how our team gets on! ¡Buen Camino!
So now we’re delighted to launch The Ethical Raffle. It’s actually ethical three times over...
2.
3.
Prizes only from the best ethical brands and companies Digital only – no trees will be harmed in the making of this raffle 100% of each ticket price helps Traidcraft Exchange make trade fairer for everyone.
In short, it’s sustainable prizes for a good cause. Take a look at the prizes and buy tickets online. PRIZES AND TICKETS

An Update from Robin
After nearly six years at the helm, I am stepping down as CEO of Traidcraft plc in November of this year. The past year 18 months have been hard for everyone. Like many others I have found this period extremely demanding and all-consuming, and like many others it has forced me to rethink my immediate priorities and goals. I am particularly mindful of my well-being and the compromises that are inevitable in running a company, particularly one that generates such passion and energy. I have agreed with the Board that, having made numerous necessary operational and strategic changes to the Traidcraft family, it is the right moment to give others the opportunity to build on our potential. I know that the Traidcraft team, who have been at the forefront of all our recent improvements, will continue to build the company. Traidcraft has changed a great deal in these last few years. We have, I hope, become an example of what a working environment should be: led from within with everyone able to contribute their best and able to see the direct fruits of their initiatives and decisions. We have, looking back, spent

a lot of time trying to be the change that others would want to see, and I think, judging from my colleagues’ comments, we have created an environment where work is qualitatively different from previous experiences. It has been an inspiring process, full of laughter, energy, conflict and resolution and I am much the wiser for having been a part of it. The company is left in good hands. My interim replacement is Matt Oliver. Matt has been managing a heavy workload in recent months as I have taken a step back. I will, however, be with the company until the end of November enabling continuity and a complete handover of roles and responsibilities. The Board will be leading a process to appoint my permanent successor during the autumn period. Traidcraft Exchange is now an entirely separated but much loved partner with Charlotte Timson leading an experienced team who continue to do exceptional work at policy level, communicating and inspiring many of us to be engaged, as well as ensuring meaningful and farreaching projects in developing countries are managed to the highest standards. Traidcraft now functions in an organic and decentralised way. My greatest hope and legacy will be that the company continues to fulfil its purpose, and my absence will be barely noted. I will, however, always be thankful and mindful to our army of loyal supporters; to our amazing Fairtraders itching to get back into churches and market stalls and to our customers who make a point of buying better through us. Thank you, Robin Roth
