TRAIL BLAZERS GAME PROGRAM • BLAZERDANCER FEATURE
EMMY YEARS AS A BLAZERDANCER: 2
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO DANCE? Dancing is something that has always been a part of who I am – I started at age three and have always been enrolled in a dance program ever since. What inspires me to keep dancing is the amazing people I’ve met through the art. I’ve gained so many mentors, close friends & teammates through my dance training, and each dancer I cross paths with pushes me to continue enhancing my craft. It amazes me how driven dancers are & I am so appreciative to have the opportunity to carry my childhood passion into my adult life. WHAT ARE SOME LITTLE-KNOWN FACTS ABOUT YOURSELF YOU WANT OTHERS TO KNOW? I love the TV show Survivor! I’ve seen every episode since it first premiered in 2000 & a life dream of mine would be to play the game some day!
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE AS A BLAZERDANCER? The moment I first found out that I had made the team will forever be my most surreal moment with the BlazerDancers. It was a goal that I had been working towards for two years and to finally have it happen was truly a dream (I couldn’t stop smiling the cheesiest smile ever all night long). Aside from making the squad, another very memorable experience I’ve had on the team is dancing with Portugal. The Man for their home concert here at Edgefield. The band was all repping their Blazers gear & the crowd brought so much energy! It was a cool experience that brought our home community together. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?
Before every Blazers game that I’m dancing at I drink a Cherry Coke.
Aside from dancing I love interior decorating & design – I would spend hours in Home Goods each day if I had the time. I also love hiking the beautiful trails of the PNW and always find the chance to get out on the ski slopes each winter!
My closest friends and family call me “Em” and if they ever do call me “Emmy” I assume they’re upset with me.
IF YOU COULD GIVE ADVICE TO ASPIRING YOUNG DANCERS, WHAT WOULD YOU TELL THEM?
I love games – Monopoly, Scrabble & Clue are a few of my favorites! I’m also more competitive than I’d like to admit to.
Keep working hard and don’t compare yourself to others! Every dancer develops at their own pace and has individual strengths. It’s important to learn to have confidence in yourself as a performer and know that you have qualities that make you special.
I grew up on the east coast (in the western NY snow!) and moved to Portland just a few weeks after I graduated from the University. I road tripped out here and had an amazing time exploring the country along the way.
