SPOT THE DIFFERENCES TRAIL BLAZERS GAME PROGRAM • ACTIVITY
The Trail Blazers have partnered with local Women-owned businesses on co-branded collaborations for Rip City that are Made By Her.
Claws Out is a line of ethical nail polish that believes you can look good and do good. Each of their polishes are named after topics they genuinely care about, and each color corresponds to a charity they donate 20% of their profits to. The 10-free, vegan polish is made without the fish scales or animal testing often used because they’re obsessed animal lovers. They’re made in the USA without gross chemicals like Formaldehyde or Camphor because Claws Out cares about factory workers (and you). They give money to people they believe are trying to make the world a better place, and use the flexibility of their own business to donate volunteer time to groups who need it because community support comes from more than just a check.
Amanda Bruegl (Oneida & Stockbridge-Munsee) co-owns Ginew, the only Native American-owned denim company. She is also the only Native American gynecologic cancer surgeon-researcher in America. Native American women are twice as likely to die from cervical cancer than the general population. Amanda designed the Ginew + RIPCITY “Made By Her” piece using traditional woodland style beadwork and infused turquoise, the color for cervical cancer awareness. To learn more about training the next generation of Native American physicians, visit www.NNACoE.org.
Minna Yoo’s journey in neuroscience and nutrition led her to look for an easier way to improve health and the idea of Love Bottle was born. Love Bottle is a beautiful, elegant, reusable bottle that is all about bringing Love and Water together and Drinking with Love. The bottle was created to help the physical and emotional health of our bodies, our communities and our planet. Love Bottle is a friend and a reminder to wear our hearts out, to Stand for Love and to remember that at our core we are all LOVE.
In 2009, while visiting a night market in Cambodia, Nyla Jano noticed a local woman who worked with local artisans to use recycled materials to make durable, water resistant and colorful tote bags. They discussed the opportunity for Nyla to design her own products which, the artisans would then produce in the comfort of their communities. Upon learning the backstory of the artisans and the recycled materials, Nyla became inspired to create TORRAIN; a company that contributes to Cambodian artisans’ well being while encouraging style with a global conscience. TORRAIN now sources and gathers materials from countries like South Africa, Morocco and the US and works with local sewers in the Pacific Northwest as well as artisans in Cambodia to finish the process. TORRAIN is dedicated to providing quality, sustainable products and to fostering communities worldwide.

BEHIND THE SCENES WITH TRAIL BLAZERS SIDELINE REPORTER
BROOKE OLZENDAM DO YOU HAVE ANY RITUALS OR SUPERSTITIONS ON A GAME DAY? I ask Coach Yim about warm-up times and I always get a fist bump from our trainers, Todd and Ben, on their way back into the locker room during starting lineups. Those are musts. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A TRAIL BLAZERS HOME GAME? I get dressed and do my hair at home. I throw whatever heels I’m wearing in my bag and put on 28
my sensible flats, then head to the arena. When I get there I finish my notes, do my “tv” make-up last (which I hate doing because I’m awful at it), then take off my sensible flats and put on nonsensical heels. Off to interview Coach! HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A TRAIL BLAZERS ROAD TRIP? I am a night owl, so I do my best packing the night before a road trip. I always pack too many shoes. My must haves are cough drops, moisturizer, and hair spray. A ton of hair spray.
TRAIL BLAZERS GAME PROGRAM • BROADCASTER FEATURE
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ARENA IN THE NBA? (BESIDES THE MODA CENTER, OF COURSE) I really love Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis because it’s so unique and really does feel like an actual fieldhouse. I love Smoothie King Center in New Orleans simply for the reason they give us a free smoothie of our choosing. ARE THERE ANY PLACES ON THE ROAD THAT YOU FREQUENT? RESTAURANTS, QUIRKY SHOPS, ETC? It’s common knowledge on our crew that I’m a sucker for gas station BBQ. Dickey’s BBQ Pit in Dallas has my heart. WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO GET INTO BROADCASTING? WAS THE NBA ALWAYS THE GOAL? I knew I wanted to work in sports at a very young age. When I was studying broadcasting at Wasington State University I knew it was what I wanted to do. I grew up obsessed with the NBA, so dreams do come true.
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU FEEL YOU’VE IMPROVED ON SINCE JOINING THE TRAIL BLAZERS BROADCAST TEAM? I’ve improved on specific basketball verbiage strictly from getting to listen to our analyst, Lamar Hurd, every game. He does a great job of explaining coverages, schemes, plays, etc. He’s really helped me with the nitty gritty. Not to mention, he and Kevin are highly entertaining. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO GET INTO SPORTS BROADCASTING? If you want to get into sports broadcasting, A) Please don’t come for my job, because I love it. And B) Work hard to put together a solid reel to show anyone and everyone. Introduce yourself to people in the business and make connections. They can give you great advice. Be kind to everyone because it’s a smaller circle than you think, and just because it’s the right thing to do! And be prepared to be tired! ◆
