RIP CITY TONIGHT’S QUOTE: “When you are struggling as a team, you have got to go that extra mile. You have got to be diving on the floor. Teams are good. You have gotta make it happen. Referees are not going to do it. The coaches are not going to do it. The players have got to come from within. You have got to go out there and make it happen.” -DAMIAN LILLARD

TRAIL BLAZERS GAME PROGRAM • BLAZERDANCER FEATURE
MARIA YEARS AS A BLAZERDANCER: 2
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO DANCE?
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?
Dance has always been my first love. The feeling I get when I’m either dancing in the studio, on stage or on the court is unexplainable and it’s something I don’t think I’ll ever give up. Dance is one of those things that lights my soul on fire.
Outside of dancing for the BlazerDancers, I also am a part of the dance community in Portland and perform at various events throughout the city. I also enjoy trying new restaurants, hiking, and traveling.
WHAT ARE SOME LITTLE-KNOWN FACTS ABOUT YOURSELF YOU WANT OTHERS TO KNOW?
IF YOU COULD GIVE ADVICE TO ASPIRING YOUNG DANCERS, WHAT WOULD YOU TELL THEM?
One thing I don’t think many people know about me is that my mother immigrated here to America when she was 30 years old and was the first from our family to leave our small town back in the Philippines. Because of her, I get to experience amazing opportunities (like dancing for the BlazerDancers) that were never available to her growing up.
If I could give advice to aspiring young dancers, I would tell them that the only person stopping you from achieving your dreams is you. If you believe in yourself and are willing to work for it, you will be unstoppable.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE AS A BLAZERDANCER? My most memorable moment as a BlazerDancer would have to be the first playoff game of my rookie season. The energy at Moda was something I had never experienced before. You could just feel the excitement and energy in the air. Hearing and seeing the crowd during that entire game is something I could never forget.

Honoring a New Era of Historic Firsts for Oregon in Celebration of Black History With impressive accomplishments and credentials, these leaders have chosen Oregon as their home and thus ushered in a new era of historic firsts. The Portland Trail Blazers and Rose Quarter will salute ground-breaking individuals on a night when we celebrate Black History Month. The celebration starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Rose Room at Moda Center on Thursday, February 5, prior to our home game versus the Miami Heat. Please join us to honor these leaders; socialize with others who make our community great; and enjoy food and drinks. A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to iUrbanTeen, whose mission is to expose and inspire underrepresented youth to become tomorrow’s business and technology leaders.
