BEN YEARS AS A STUNTER: 3
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO STUNT?
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?
I enjoy the physical part of stunting: challenging your body to grow and adapt in different ways.
Besides stunting, I snowboard, mountain bike, lift weights, ride motorcycles and go to concerts.
WHAT ARE SOME LITTLE-KNOWN FACTS ABOUT YOURSELF YOU WANT OTHERS TO KNOW?
IF YOU COULD GIVE ADVICE TO ASPIRING YOUNG STUNTERS, WHAT WOULD YOU TELL THEM?
One little-known fact about me is I come from a large family; I have eight total siblings.
Practice, practice, practice. I was not very good when I started, so I spent a lot of time failing until I could do it right. Don’t get discouraged if at first you fail.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE AS A STUNT TEAM MEMBER? I think my most memorable experience was my very first NBA game. Being out on the court with the lights down and throwing stunts as they were announcing our starting five was exhilarating.

a job at SiriusXM in Washington DC for a year and a half before returning to Portland in 2012. I began working at Rip City Radio in 2015 where I was the afternoon drive host and Assistant Program Director. Throughout this time, I was broadcasting games for various high school sports, University of Portland basketball and baseball and the Hillsboro Hops. I was given the opportunity to fill in during the 2018-19 season, calling 57 games for the Trail Blazers, before accepting the full-time position this season.
WELCOME TO RIP CITY, TRAVIS!
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SEASON? ▶ I’m most looking forward to calling a full schedule of games and really getting into a rhythm. Bill Schonely told me that I need to put my own stamp on the job, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I’m also looking forward to seeing just how good this team can be.
DESCRIBE HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE IN YOUR CAREER ▶ My path started with a degree in broadcasting from Long Island University in 2003. My first professional job was as a play-by-play announcer for high school football in Astoria and Seaside. From there I started working at a sports radio station in Portland in an entry level position. After seven years and working my way up, I took 28

everything done I want to with some road trips and back-to-backs. So, prioritizing what are the most important things I need to do is something I’m learning. HOW DO YOU JUGGLE HAVING A YOUNG KID AND TRAVELING SO MUCH WITH THE TEAM?
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST EXCITING PART OF THIS JOB SO FAR? ▶ The most exciting thing has been seeing different parts of the country, different arenas and seeing how passionate other fanbases are. We all think Rip City has the best fans in the NBA – and after calling games in almost every arena in the league, I would definitely agree!
▶ It’s hard being away from my wife and son so much with all of the travelling. My wife is doing an incredible job of basically being a single parent when I’m gone and being supportive of my career. We FaceTime a lot – at least once a day, sometimes more depending on what time zone I’m in. When I’m home I try and shut everything off and give my family all of my attention. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PORTLAND RESTAURANT? ▶ We don’t really get out to Portland very often, so we stay in Sherwood a lot. Our favorite place to go is Mason in Old Town Sherwood. They have great food!
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THIS JOB SO FAR? ▶ The most challenging part of this job is time management. I know what I need to do to be prepared for a game, and sometimes time doesn’t always allow me to get

The Trail Blazers are dedicated to positively impacting the lives of children and families who have been historically underserved, where they live (environmental sustainability), learn (education), and play (sport and physical activity). The Trail Blazers Foundation gives grants and scholarships to nonprofits, schools, and students and is funded through meaningful corporate partnerships and revenue from Trail Blazers license plate sales, 5050 raffle, retail programs, and other fundraising efforts. Celebrating Five Decades of Extraordinary Employees “Growing up a Trail Blazer” isn’t just a saying, it’s a lifestyle - that’s especially true for Trail Blazers Youth Basketball Coach, Matt Dietrich. Coach Matt is responsible for leading camps and clinics for the Trail Blazers organization for youth grades K-8th throughout Oregon and Washington. “The first event I worked was the Shamrock Run. I’m sort of an entertainer. There were a ton of kids around - I found a group of ten kids who couldn’t shoot or dribble, and I gave them a little clinic right there.” Since then, Matt has taken on a variety of different coaching roles including P.E takeovers and traveling the state on the Rip City Rally. He also leads Rip City Academy coaching clinics for youth basketball coaches across the region alongside fellow Lead Youth Coaches.
MATT DIETRICH
“I never thought I would coach basketball. I played at the University of Redlands, and got a degree in business. I became a project manager - but ended up trading 200 emails a day for coaching 200 kids.” For Matt, this job has been the most rewarding. It’s given him an appreciation and understanding for how people learn in different ways. Referring to the youth he works with, Matt comments “They’ve taught me patience, and to come in with an open mind. You never know what someone is going through, and I’ve given them a way to escape that.” Matt has been creating extraordinary moments for these kids every day for the last three years. “I really feel that in basketball, kids are able to establish a healthy and active lifestyle where they can be in control of improvement and bettering themselves.” Join the Trail Blazers organization in saying thanks to Coach Matt as he continues to improve the lives of kids all across Rip City.
Thank You
