Through Our Eyes – A Youth Photography Experience in Tralee

Kerry Local Creative Youth Partnership at Kerry ETB has unveiled an upcoming youth-led photography exhibition called “Through Our Eyes” which will be open to the public from 3:00 pm on April 22nd at Kerry County Museum. The exhibition features a series of large-scale photographic works and accompanying documentary that chronicles a group of young people’s journey through lockdown. The project was designed to help the group cope with the changes in their lives as finding something interesting to do in a closed-down world became a challenge. The exhibition and publication showcase the positive and exciting experiences that the young people have had with photography and creativity during lockdown.

Deirdre Enright, Creative Youth Coordinator at Kerry ETB, said that the project was an exciting online journey for the young people involved, who were united by their excitement of seeing, looking, and being creative about what they were shooting and sharing. The project was facilitated by artist, educator, and photographer Tara Donoghue, who guided the group through the challenges of the pandemic and helped them adjust to life via Zoom. The group was inspired to produce a photographic book due to the amount of work that was emerging, resulting in the “Through Our Eyes” publication, which was designed and produced by the group. The publication was created to raise funds for the Childhood Cancer Foundation of Ireland, chosen by the group as an express wish to give back to children’s health after experiencing the medical emergency of lockdown. Sales from the publication are in excess of €350, with each copy costing €10.
